PHOENIXROSE

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

So this kind of got started in the pub thread by FlyVote, who's been sending me the novels of the Dresden Files and having me send them along after I'm done. Mavourneen and MsG got in on it, too, sending out some of their favorite books for fellow Browncoats to read. I thought it might be handy to have a thread devoted to offering favorite books and kind of having a waiting list, etc. Addresses should obviously be sent through PM or direct email.
So, here are some of my favorite books that I'd be happy to send to anyone who wants to read them:

Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal

The Black Jewels Series (my favorite series ever; it includes the original Black Jewels Trilogy, a companion novel, and a collection of short stories)

The Tir Alainn Trilogy (same author as the Black Jewels and almost as good)

The Seer and the Sword
The Healer's Keep
The Light of the Oracle
(these are shameless plugs because my mom wrote them, but I happen to think they're very good, too)

The Sword of Truth series (which is massive, so I'm not sure I can afford to send it out right away)

The Abhorson Trilogy

The Dark Materials Trilogy (Golden Compass et all)

The Color of Distance and Through Alien Eyes
Storyteller
(Amy Thompson is one of my favorite sci-fi writers, and not as well known as she deserves)

My email is browncoatrose at yahoo

Hey Jimi, I never got a PM of your addy to send you Finding Serenity.

I think that's all for me. Any takers? Other givers?

All Dresden books sent to me are either in or on their way to the land of OZ.
(In other words, Nic has 'em.)

The Kim Harrison books are really good! Doesn't hurt that I know the author!

Really good idea BTW. Wish I could afford to participate, but I'm broker than Mal and Co.

Amen, sweetserendipity. But you guys are really shiny to do something like this. When I actually have the money, I have some books I know you guys would enjoy.

FLYVOTE

I'll keep my list at the top edited to reflect the current state of my link of the chain.

I owe a big *hug* to Mavourneen for turning me on to Dresden. She insisted that I would enjoy the books. Based on her recommendation I bought "Storm Front". After reading it I purchased the remainder (up to #9) of the Dresden books.

The "BFL" is my way of sharing. I've read mainly "hard scifi" up to this point, and the Dresden series is my first foray into the realm of magic.

You are most welcome, Fly.
And for the record, the publishing categorization for books like this is "Urban Fantasy."

I also have the Weather Watcher series to add to the library (Once I find book 2, that is...)

Oh, wudda you know. Ok, urban fantasy it is.

I have a pet peeve about everything being dumped in to "scifi". Some people think it is either fact or fiction scifi.

Stephen Brust
Lois McMaster Bujold
Barbara Hambly

... and I have requested that Nico send them on to me, since I am in Australia as well and all it makes sense... but I would be happy to pass them on after I am done reading them!

And I will second my Mei Mei's recommendation of her mother's books - they are wonderful, written for a younger reader (and my 11-year-old neice is loving them too!) I enjoyed them thoroughly and am going to reread them!!

Thank you for starting this Flyvote and Rose, Mavourneen and MsG!!

P.S. I intend to read Terry Pratchett one day too, but I think that will be while I am in France next year! Most of my books are in storage at the moment, but in coming weeks and months I am going to be assessing what I keep and what I don't in order to reduce what i store so I will probably have some to contribute soon!

I do have a lot of Dickens novels... if anyone is interested in the classics...

You know what the first rule of flyin' is? Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of worlds. And love keeps her in the air when she oughtta fall down… tells ya she's hurtin' 'fore she keels… makes her a home.

I'll add With Nails to my list shortly.

Hell's Kitten emailed me to mention that although she would eventually like to read Dresden, she has a stack of books right now. So she doesn't want to be next right after Nicodemus. (She still wants to be in the loop, though.)

Nico - perhaps you could send the Dresden books to Magda. I think she has interest.

I thought that LA29 was also interested in Dresden. Or did you send your Dresden set to LA29?
