score 19 out of 25- either I'm good at, or at least have done. And If I could swim, or did boats, I'd have done another couple.

It's hard for me to claim all 25; I've never had an occasion to...
19. Clean a bolt-action rifle

Nor...
21. Hook up an HDTV
...but I suspect I could do so even with out a manual, but -surely- I could with one.

And this one...
22. Bleed brakes
sorry, I don't fuss with brakes, I leave that to my mechanic.

Just call me Tim, the Toolman.

I've never extended a wireless network. In fact, I don't even know what that means.

And while I have some idea of what retouching digital photos is, I've never done it - although I suspect you would need something like Photoshop. Wait a minute, come to think of it. I do know how to retouch digital photos, at least digital pictures, but I’m not sure if that’s what Popular Mechanics mean, so I’ll leave that one No.

In a similar vein, from the mind of Robert Heinlein....

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects!

I've never taken a CPR course, but if you hum a few bars I could fake it.

I'm from Canada and live in the city, so the bolt-action rifle is also something I haven't done. (I have rebuilt a transmission - is that close? I've owned several British cars, so you learn to be a good mechanic when you're not rich!)

I was fairly comfortable with more of the things on Heinlein's list than I thought I would be, though...

I'm too much man to learn that lesson. Besides screwing things up beyond all hope of recovery is a talent I excel at. And we should focus on the things we're good at.

Um as a woman, let me just say, there's a serious flaw in the list. It's missing:

26- make a move on a woman without being awkward, corny, or insulting

27- kiss well enough to melt her knees

28- make love for longer than 5 minutes and bring both parties to the "finish line"

29- be supportive

I don't care if you can field strip an AK-47...if you can't do those 4 things, you aren't a man:)

This is a man’s thread. We don’t want your dust ruffles.

Also I can dance the Tango and I’ve been told that I do it well enough that it automatically accounts for 26, 27 and 29. If I throw in the Waltz, then 28 too.

So on that line:

30 - learn to dance

LOL
Learned a few others over the years too.
That ol’ number 29 covers so very much. Just to add a few subclasses.
29a - Be able to go shopping and not complain (see 29).
29b - If she is on a diet, you are on a diet (see 29).
29c - Have a sense of humor; know when and when not to use it (see 29).
29d - Be able to listen and keep your mouth shut (see 29).
29e - A hug is sometimes the answer (see 29).
29f - F is for all future subclasses (see 31).
30 - Learn to dance (as was added)
31 - 29 is open to her interpretations and can change at any moment.
32 - Know the difference between a moist kiss, a passionate kiss and drooling.
33 - Know the difference between curling up, making love, having sex and gettin some. Be able to do them all.
34 - Be able to say, "I love you" first.
35 - Be able to kill any and all spiders in the house.

Once got a card that said, "A husband is like a good book, fun to curl up with, and great for smashing spiders."
and I am sure there are MANY, MANY more.

I’m not sure that it’s an either-or situation, as much as that a good dancer can really add points to the rest of the night. It’s all about making the girl feel as beautiful as she is, and there’s no better way to do that in my experience then to get lost in each other’s arms to elegant patterns on the dance floor.

That’s just my experience, and I’m just one guy. Yours may vary. But if you’re a guy, you can’t lose by learning to dance.

So, how then? Ever tried being the one making the moves? It's not as easy as it looks.

MDSO2- yes I have tried making the moves...and darlin I'm good at it. Get a good friend who's not interested in you and you're not interested in them and practice....it's mostly the confidence to walk up and ask for what you want, and seriously the worst that can happen is they say no...so what more available

NVGHOSTRIDER

Just happened upon the thread and wow. Wow.

So yeah, most of the list is redundant. If a man can read a book then he can do most of the things on the list. I like the addendum as per MSG and loved the Heinlen list as well.

Was there any stuff of the cooking sort on the list? Seems a man can do a ton of stuff but can do more when he can feed himself and the ones he loves.

And nothing gets chicks going more than a guy who is handy, makes 'em weak in the knees, and cooks the mad munchies for to fuel the energy for guy/girl stuff.
