I found this on MSN and as much as I know there is a relation to FF/S, it's just that my brainpan is a bit clogged right now. Can someone help with explaining it? I'll take it as the ultimate kindness....

ARCADIA

There's isn't a direct relation to ff/s. Except perhaps in the sense that a writer's strike makes it unlikely that it would be considered for development any time soon. But that's been true for a long time. The writers' strike will effect shows that are in production, not out of it - think Heroes, Bionic Woman, Reaper, etc. As the article said, its an especially bit deal for struggling show, which will be more likely to get the ax.

Arcadia (aka Greyfable and/or Katie)
www.stillflying.net -- picking up Firefly were Joss left off. We will hold 'til he gets back.

Thanks for that. SOmehow I knew there was a point to it but I just couldn't grasp it. As much as you were helpful though, I still don't quite understand...(sorry, i'm a complete idiot )What would happen if the writers did go on strike? Does it mean that no eps will be made and the shows will come to an unceremonious halt like our beloved Firefly? Why are the writers going on strike in the first place?

Xie xie in advance.^^ I'm such a boob on this things...

Here's a pipedream: Fox runs out of new episodes of this and that, and then there are no new pilots yet, and you can only put out so many reality and news shows. So what do you do, you run Firefly episodes in January, and bring out the two episodes we never saw for sweeps. Then you greenlight new episodes based on the numbers.

Just thinking out loud.

Keep Flying.

Because they're not getting enough residuals from all the alternate media that shows are being sold in (eg iTunes store, DVD sales) is one reason.

MISSTRESSAHARA

This is how my brother explained it

The new shows out there (Chuck, BW, Heroes, etc..) won't get the boot if the writers go on strike, no matter the ratings. Instead since the writers won't be working on new plots for new shows, episodes that have been written in advance of existing shows, will be filmed and aired, stretching them as long as they can. This, from his perspective, would help struggling shows since there wouldn't be any new ones to instantly replace them if their numbers go down.

That's how he explained it and it makes some sense, but maybe those more in the know of how it works can confirm or deny. I myself would welcome a strike if it means Chuck and Heroes (numbers are iffy this season) will stay on air.
