FINN MAC CUMHAL

I was inspired by one of the music threads to put together a new dance cd, but I thought I would see if Browncoats have any favorites for good dance music?

In particular, I need help on Foxtrots, Waltzes, Tangos, and Rumbas, but anything will be accepted. Here are some stuff I’ve used in the past.

foxtrot Most of my Foxtrot music tends to be from the 50s through the 30s. I need to modernize my play lists.
“Fly Me To the Moon.” (1954)
-- Frank Sinatra.

“Begin the Beguine.” (1935)
-- Artie Shaw

waltz The waltz is not a favorite of mine, but girls love it.
“Take It To the Limit” (1975)
-- Eagles

“Moon River” (1961)
-- Frank Sinatra

tango When the music is right, a tango is awesome.
“Santa Maria del Buen Ayre” (2001)
-- The Gotan Project

roject&total=941&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0

“Jealousy” (1925)
-- Jacob Gade

“Por Una Cabeza” (1935)
-- Carlos Carbel

(This couple is actually doing an Argentine Tango, which is less staccato and more rhythmic then the American Tango.)

Just an aside, in case you were wondering, I think the opening theme music of Firefly is a slow tango, except for a strange banjo interpretation in the middle which I can’t figure out (kind of samba-ish), but if I had to dance to it, I’d probably do a rumba.

main+theme&lr=lang_en%7Clang_fr%7Clang_it%7Clang_es&total=29&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0

rumba The only Latin dance that I really like. There just something sensual about its strobe-light poses. I really need more Rumbas. And modern ones.

“Tequila Sunrise” (1973)
-- Eagles

+sunrise&total=703&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0

“Your Body is a Wonderland.” (2001)
-- John Mayer

So if you have any good ideas for dance music, especially rumbas, or would just like to discuss your dance experiences...

Downloading video takes a long time with my dial-up. Any chance one of those video clips are of you? 'Cause I'd wait to see that.

No. They’re just music selections from the internet. If you’re already familiar with the song or aren’t interested don’t bother waiting. I don’t think any of my showcases are online, but I can show you some showcases of some others at my studio.

This is an American Tango done by a couple at my studio at the Dancing with the Stars competition. That’s the best I can do, until I load up my showcases.

Of all the newfangled music you folk listen to, none of you have any ideas about dance music?

Sorry, Finn. I'm more of a music & dance enthusiast than aficionado.
I love to watch dance competitions and absolutely LOVE the music. Still downloading yours -- 20 minutes and counting.
One of my favorite performances ever was to the tune "Whatever Lola Wants". But it was a freestyle dance so I don't know what kind of dance it was. I don't have a keen enough eye to distinguish. Absolutely beautiful, though. Like you said, slow movement with snapshot poses.
"Fly Me to the Moon" is another one of my favorites. Sounds like a good collection to me.

Ah, I keep forgetting people are on dial up. Well, I hope you enjoy the selections, especially given the time you’re putting into the download. They are some of my favorites.

“Whatever Lola Wants,” if it’s what I’m thinking of, is a tango. At least that’s likely what you would do to it in a Ballroom or Latin dance. But I’ve heard versions of it that were easily rumbas.

“Fly Me to the Moon” is one of my favorite foxtrots, because the rhythm is very Lindy, but still smooth, so you can really pull the swing out of the foxtrot. It’s a lot of fun.

I'm heading to a dance tonight - out in Guntersville. It's a St. Patrick's Day Dance so I have to go buy a green shirt, as in spite of my Irish heritage I own nothing that that is green.

Yes, I’m Irish. At least, ethnically. My family had direct ties to Ireland until 2002, when the last directly related member of my family moved to Atlanta from Belfast. And I’ll be happy to drink a pint for you, although I’ll do so bewildered by why you’re not drinking it yourself.

So far my Browncoat inspired dance CD includes:

“Whatever Lola Wants (Gotan Project Remix)” (2001)
-- Sarah Vaughn
Tango (American or Argentine)
http://www.last.fm/music/Sarah+Vaughan/_/Whatever+Lola+Wants+(Gotan+Pr
oject+remix
)

“Fly Me To the Moon.” (1954)
-- Frank Sinatra.
Foxtrot or Lindy Hop

Well Finn I would, but I've had that novovirus that's been going around and I'm not brave enough to try it out yet . I don't want to go back to !

(Although I'm pleased to be able to use that emoticon in context at last, the being ill bit wasn't worth it!).

Very nice selections. I'd pay good money to see you dance to those in an Irish green shirt. Yeah, I'm kinda twisted that way.
I downloaded a couple of your exhibition clips from YouTube. Very nicely done. Are there any of you on there?

Better drink a pint for me too. I've developed a nasty allergy to alcohol. I could probably use that vomit emoticon too but I'll refrain.
Still, can't drink a drop. Almost not worth living.
