Nathan seems like such a great dude, and I think he is a great actor in everything he does. But sometimes, in movies and entertainment, the stars seem to align and the perfect role and the perfect actor find each other.

Patrick Stewart was born for his role as Captain Picard. Tom Selleck was born to be Magnum. Harrison Ford was born to be Han Solo, etc.

Try as I might, I cannot think of anyone who would have been able to pull off Malcom Reynolds like Nathan Fillion. But, what if Nathan had never taken the role of Capt. Reynolds? Who would have, or could have, filled his boots?

I occasionally get ideas of other actors who could perhaps do a decent job in the role of Capt. Reynolds.

Some of the actors who come to mind for me, are:

Matt LeBlanc (from his role as Major Don West in Lost in Space)
Adam Baldwin (If you foget that he played Jayne, maybe?)
Harrison Ford (when he was younger as Capt. Solo)

There are many others I can't think of now, but just for giggles, who else do you think could have been Captain Reynolds?

There was an actor at college, great big bear of a bloke, welsh as a montgomeryshire poppy but brilliant at accents and language and great sense of humor, played 'dad' roles a lot but also had a bastard streak a mile wide on stage. And we all saw him nekkid for one role. He'd have been good. But seeing as no-one else has ever heard of him and i can't even remember his second name i think we just have to thank our lucky little stars that they found Nathan and not question fate (she gets really pissed if you do that).

Ron was of course a joke, and I am thinking of who could have played Mal, but am not coming up with anyone at this time.

With regard to Ron Jeremy:

The ship would go to hell, cuz Kaylee would never get a chance to work on it. She would either be "busy at the moment", or recovering.

Inara would go broke cuz she would have no time to "service clients", and wouldn't really be in good shape for it anyway.

Wash couldn't fly the ship cuz he would have to guard Zoe AFTER putting on her steel chastity belt.

Don't get me wrong. Ron Jeremy might be a great choice, but the overall character of FF/S might change a bit.

Badger's a dick, and it musta' felt great to punch YoSaphBridge n the face.

Same here. Except maybe a young Harrison Ford, and to quote a Browncoat friend, "Fillion worships at the altar of Ford."

I think the guy was just born to act...I'll probably be booed and hissed for saying this, but as much as I love his portrayal of Mal,and know no one else could do it justice, my favourite Nathan Fillion role is Luke Reilly in "Outing Reilly" the character just grabs me. Particularly a monologue/phone message in the movie that made me tear up...and I don't usually cry about anything.
The cool thing about the actors Joss chooses is that they are so good at what they do, no one else could ever play any of their memorable roles. I mean Who else could play Jayne, Animal Mother, or agent Casey better than Adam Baldwin?
