"The Champ" with little Ricky Schroeder...can't watch that film...it's not even a particularly good film, but it always makes me cry. Then again any time a kid has a heartfelt cry it sets me off.
The first time I saw Serenity I cried buckets...but don't know many who didn't.
Actually I think I cried the first time I saw the Empire Strikes Back...I know my brother and I both shouted out "Nooooo" when Han Solo got carbonated but I think I cried as well. (not as much as I did later that day when our parents discovered we had snuck in to see it despite being refused permission...we were supposed to be seing something Disney, but dad could tell when he picked us up that we hadn't as our eyes were too glazed over)

I'm almost ashamed to admit it since everyone's always saying what a terrible movie it is, I didn't think it was that bad.

But for me it's armageddon, when Harry sacrifices himself. I think it's mostly the music that gets me going, that movie has a wonderful score, regardless of how you may feel about the movie itself.

A while back there was a trailer that someone had made for firefly using that same music, and that got me into tears as well, so I think it's more the music than the movie but yea.

There's also the season 2 finale of buffy when she has to kill angel, and if I'm in the right mood, season 5 finale of buffy when buffy sacrices herself.

"Haha, mine is an evil laugh."

Geez the only time I cried in Buffy was when Spike sacrificed himself, when Anya died ...oh yeah and when Jenny Calender died.

Not a movie, but an episode of Deep Space Nine called "The Visitor". That story got to me on two levels. The story is too complicated to detail here, but the main plot involves Jake sacrificing himself to save his father, Ben Sisko.

On one level it got to me, because I lost my father too young, and like Jake, I would have done almost anything to have him back.

On another level, as the father of my own son, the pained look on Avery Brooks face when he realizes what Jake has done, and then watching his son die in his arms, just rips my heart out. As much as I miss my father, losing my son would be worse! As my grandfather sadly told me after my father died, "no father should have to out live his son".

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

I am not a very good barometer for this because I cry at everything. But if I had to pick
Armegedon is a good one.
Kevin Costner in the Guardian
and the disney one with the two dogs and the cat that get lost in the wilderness, I am at a loss for the name right now. My kids laugh at me that I can't watch that movie.

RIVERLOVE

Forrest Gump - Jenny's gravesite scene tears me up
West Side Story - ending is so tragic
Serenity - you know when
Pay It Forward - why'd he have to die
A Patch Of Blue - almost cry thru the whole thing
Third Man On The Mountain - Disney classic, so uplifting and sentimental you can't help it
To Sir With Love - please don't get me started. OK just one, when he dances with Pamela at the end
The Mortal Storm - One of Jimmy Stewart's best, when the Nazis shoot his fiance as they are fleeing
