Trolls aren't arrogant, stuck-up conformists? Are you sure about that? They all seem to have the same modus operandi, which tends to involve acting better than those around them. "Look at me! Listen to me! I am so great! I can argue about anything and I'm always right! OMGWTFBBQ! You're so wrong! No, wait, it's your so wrong, because misusing words is cooler than not misusing words! But only when I do it! so im rite and ur not and omg, look at me use big words now to see if it will confuse you! Yay me! and omg u guys, I can't believe you would try to restrict my free speech! Liek, what is wrong with you! I'm guaranteed the right to say whatever I want, even on a privately owned web place! no wai, ur rong about the spec..spefi..specifics of that right... omg." Sounds like an arrogant and stuck-up mode of conforming to me...

I think you are mistaken. I think he is a jackass. I've either read more of his craziness than you have, or I read a little more crazy than you do. () I've also started theorizing that kingie and jameron are the same jackass. They have very similar expressions, though one of them has at least tried to pretend, at times, that he's not a complete asshole. If I am right, then he's twice the jackass. Either way, though, he's kind of a jackass. If you feel like slumming down in troll country, you'll see some of what I'm talking about.

Trolls are just guys with little tiny trolls in their pants, and because of that, they lack the confidence to go out in the world and find a girl. At least one that wont laugh when the little troll makes an appearance.

They come to forums and talk sideways just to fill the void that is left in their pants. It makes them feel good to get people to respond to their rantings because deep down they know that they will die a virgin or have to pay for it and pay extra so she wont laugh.

Perhaps, after years of doing this they will give up on women and embrace an alternative lifestyle and become a bottom.

Sad little trolls living their lives in the dark under a bridge. Their fuzzy hair, chubby belly and cheeks is all i can see when i find a troll post. Poor troll with a little troll in his pants... I pity you.

I was thinking more like an "imp"

"Imps were often portrayed as lonely little creatures always in search of human attention. They often used jokes and pranks as a means of attracting human friendship, which often backfired when people became tired or annoyed of the imp's endeavors, usually driving it away."

If your sentence is incomprehensible, it will not be comprehended. Proper use of language and freedom of expression are not mutually exclusive. In fact, you may find your expression to be enhanced when people can actually understand what you're saying. I could type utter gobbledigook and claim it was my freedom to express myself in such a way, but that wouldn't mean anyone reading it would know what I was saying.
I am not an English teacher at this moment in time. Odds are someday I will be, but right now I'm still working on my Masters. I'm not sure if you were attempting to insult me or not, but I've never been closed-mouthed about my direction of study, or my preference for comprehensible expression.
I think you should read the definition of 'jackass' again. Clearly you missed it.
And yes, your not-at-all-different from the average jackass 'viewpoint' along with your general jackassery in how you 'express' yourself makes you a jackass. And if you hate lil kingie so much, you shouldn't emulate him to such a degree. Jackass.

Jameron, you're entitled to your own opinions and expression, but I don't think you're entitled to your own rules of grammar and punctuation, and you're certainly not entitled to your own facts (see anything you've written about WWII, for instance).

If you behave as an uneducated jackass, you really forfeit your rights to get angry at being called an uneducated jackass.

Why is punctuation and grammer are such a BIG DEAL in society today? I mean yes it does help to understand what someone is saying. But that line of thinking, everything has to be perfect, is like saying translating a language needs to have a direct translation. No, the biggest thing involved with ANY type of form of art, or writing, except for business, are two things, FEELINGS and INTENT. Now i know your a college student, most anyway, but some of the best essays, and writings, were nonsensical, and half gibberish. A big example of this is Gregory Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales", in the english of the time, when it was a second rate, trash language. I mean who spells April with two "LL"'s?

Who is this "Gregory Chaucer" of whom you speak? I've not heard of him.

Not having accurate translations is how you end up with garbage like the bible. There's your result of thinking you can translate someone's "feelings and intent" without translating their words accurately. You end up with a bunch of dudes sitting around saying, "Okay, and then Jesus said, 'Let them blow llamas!', or some such nonsense. Will that work? Can we put that?"

That's because there is no such person, at least in relation to literature. There was a Geoffrey Chaucer who is credited with the stories chronicled as 'Canterbury Tales.' They were not written in any nonsensical form of the language, though Middle English might seem nonsensical to those who don't make such things their area of study. Its usage as Geoffrey Chaucer knew it was actually defunct soon after his death. Later copyings of the Tales muddled the language even further at times, attempting to make it modern (or what was modern at the time) and only making it inconsistent. Original copies of the Tales by Chauncer's scribe show no such inconsistency. To call the Tales nonsense only shows lingual ignorance.
Nonsense has its place. As I've said elsewhere, Alice in Wonderland is one of my very favorite works, and Carroll was a master of nonsense verse. Even such verse, however, has rules and structure. Words that are not entirely invented are used in their own proper way. A verse may be talking of something utterly nonsensical, such as a walrus and a carpenter coaxing little oysters to come for a walk only to devour them, but it's the situation that is nonsense, not the grammar. When Humpty Dumpty changes the meanings of words to his own liking, he makes himself incomprehensible and confusing. His is the ultimate arrogance, his pride coming before a great fall. That nonsense was subtle and deliberate commentary. Incomprehensible grammar just for the hell of it is usually just lazy, or sometimes spiteful when one knows it might push some buttons. Lewis Carroll it most certainly is not.

Thanks, RiverDancer - I was being facetious, but it DOES bring up a good point. You mention Carroll's use of nonsensical verse, and its rules and structure, which brings this all around to the Whedonverse. One of the things I love about Joss, and which grabbed me pretty quickly once I finally started watching his shows (Buffy first), was Joss's ability to mangle the language AND MAKE IT WORK. People think he's just being nonsensical in his writing, but he's got enough mastery of the language to take it apart a bit and mash it back together, and still leave you knowing EXACTLY what he's talking about.

People who say that they can spout gibberish and call themselves clever writers have no idea what they're talking about. It takes someone who REALLY knows his or her language to be able to write "sensical nonsense".

Reminds me of the saying, "You have to know the rules before you can break them." Also, some of the most influential rock musicians were classically trained. It takes having a mastery of something to know how to brilliantly play with it and create something meaningful. This applies to writing, music, art, etc.

Just so. Applies to art of pretty much any variety. One thing people don't seem to realize about artists like Picasso: He could paint you a very nice impressionist piece if he felt like it, or he could paint you a stunning neoclassical piece. The man KNEW his art, knew the history and the techniques, knew the ins and outs, knew the various movements and saw where things were headed and what was coming next. And so did others, like Warhol, Basquiat, Lichtenstein, and even Keith Haring (seriously, have you ever seen his Andy Mouse series, where he deconstructs Andy Warhol as Mickey Mouse while at the same time paying homage to his Warhol, who was one of his biggest idols and influences?)

Some very few people do great things purely by accident, but for most, it's through sheer hard work, effort, and studious attention to detail. The best of them make it look astonishingly easy while doing it.
