You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

After seven long years of my old tower PC, this mah new computer. I lub it.

It runs eerily quiet. And I need to get a compatible version of photoshop. That or set up the boot camp and get a copy of windows. Whichever is cheaper, I suppose. Everything is working beautifully so far.

Congrats, Rose - You're going to LOVE your new Mac. I've been on 'em for over 20 years now, and still can't believe how insanely easy things are, compared to the experiences I have to go through at work on a PC. Wish I had the latest versions of PhotoShop and Illustrator to go with mine, but they're out of my price range these days, considering I don't do graphics for a living anymore...

I just recently went wireless with my MacBook, and the AirPort Extreme base station looks just about like your Mac Cube. About that same size.

Congrats on the new Mac (mini right)! If you can't afford Photoshop, then I'd recommend checking out GIMP:

http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

There's a book on-line (also available for purchase) that can help with getting used to it:

Regarding the windows thing. Windows 7 is not yet supported by bootcamp. Also, MS has changed there licensing such that you'll have to get (I believe) the most expensive version to be able to legally install it with bootcamp.

Oh, and welcome to the world where things just work

You did graphics for a living? Shiny. I'm working towards that this very moment. Fortunately, since I am working towards it, I can get the tasty software discounts offered to students. Still a pretty penny, though.
Oh, I do love it, I do! I've been wanting one for years and years. Finally convinced the majority of my family to give me cash for my birthday this year, so I could finally buy one. I'm a near-professional designer, gorrammit, I don't need another necklace, I need a functioning machine!

Yes, I know that. It's okay, though, because it's probably also less-than-compatible with the Creative Suite 3 software I own. Since that's, you know, out of date by a whole year. I haven't seen any indication that I have to get the most expensive, super version of Vista to install it on the mini (yus, you spotted the mini) and in fact saw XP listed as an option (if I want an OS that tops out at 2 gigs of RAM...hey, I dealt with that for almost a decade, I might be able to handle it) which would possibly be better to run my hopelessly(!) out of date professional programs. Or I'll end up buying them all again. It'll all work out before I graduate and embark in the field.

That's new. It was linked to from Slashdot a while back. Not sure if it includes Vista or not.

You should check out Bochs (open source). It might save you some rebooting (among other conveniences) depending on how powerful your system is and how much XP needs. There are other like software out there that are both pay and free.

Anyway, good luck. Hopefully, you won't have to spend you life savings.

aww but a cute bobble... oh you have to try the froggy fun tummy time mat. It works great. Plus it has a prop up pillow to start them off and a mirror. My little guy just loves the mirror and that got him going. I can send you the link for it.

Well, clearly, I couldn't sleep. I had the sleepies, and then they went away. So, I think it's time for a new thread... http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.asp?b=11&t=41401
