You're a cluey and resourceful bunch so i thought i'd ask. I need monologue topics suitable for a 16 year old female client (i.e. clean no smut etc). We've done the cliches like favourite foods, dream house, tv shows and movies...I need help with more thought provoking topics. All help will be appreciated...and no unfortunatley she is not a Firefly fan.

Healthcare reform from a 16 year old's perspective?

Is global warming going to effect my tanning/chocolate supply/hairstyle?

Um..

I'm sure I could come up with more if it wasn't 6:20am and there was coffee in me.

Are you willing to touch politics?

I know she's a few years older than the range you're looking at, but I find the viewpoint of Meghan McCain very interesting. On the one hand, she supports the "traditional" GOP (already somewhat unusual for someone her age), but on the other hand, she sees some of the major failings in the party's structure that the party elders fail to accept.

Although she can come off as somewhat silly, I think she's very insightful (particularly for someone her age, with her general lack of experience).

Still on the idea of politics, what would a 16 year-old-girl think of someone like Palin? She is, arguably, the most viable female potential Presidential candidate ever... but is that something for women to be proud of?

On the other side of the aisle, what does a young woman think of Obama? He was elected in part by the "youth" vote. But now, 2 years later, do young folk feel betrayed by him, or do they still believe in him?

There are also touchstone events, like 9/11, that affect a generation. A 16-year-old would have been... what? 7?... when it happened. What's it like to GROW UP in the post-9/11 world? I'm sure it's a distinctly different experience than the one I had. The most significant event that happened the year I was seven was that the first STAR WARS movie was released.

If all of those topics are too politically charged for you, try technology. I know that I was always frustrated by the fact that my mom couldn't properly set the VCR. With the burst of technology we've had in the past 10-15 years--and the new IMMEDIACY of technology--what must a 16-year-old think of HER parents?

I bet she's a "Glee" fan and likely "American Idol". Ask her what she thinks of the new judges.

Actually, if you can stand to hear it, cause for most adults, it'll burn...

Ask her to monologue her viewpoint of being treated as less-than-human by society and the law.

A lot of kids have a lot to say about it, and most of the time they don't dare, because they do not trust most adults enough to give them anything but the socially acceptable challenge-response garbage, but just from reading your posts, I suspect you have enough connection with these kids they might open up a bit more about it, and I think it'd be very informative.

ooh Glee, that's a good idea. We don't get American Idol in Australia...probly coz we have our own "talent" shows here...which happily she's not into. She likes Gossip Girl. (but hates Twighlight...yay!)
As for the society and law stuff, she like the rest of us aussies is pretty fed up with the political climate here, but she's a country girl who goes to a nice boarding school so she doesn't feel persecuted etc.

9/11 Inside Job. What kind of future does a 16 yr old have without 9/11 Truth?

Does a 16 yr old trust Big Brother with naked body scanners in airports, court houses, ballgames and shopping malls?

My wife did a JFK assassination speech in the US Air Force. That was fun to watch the shock and awe... Only 9/11 overshadows it now. Both are part of Operation Northwoods.

As a 16 year old male Aussie, I would just like to say that I find our current political climate interesting. Though I have a feeling I'm in the minority.

If she goes to boarding school, you could talk about public-vs-private school funding. I'm sure that would go down well. The Republic is always a solid topic as well.

And, while JFK is interesting, we have our own political conspiracies. Like the Chinese taking our Prime Minister or, everybody's favourite, the Whitlam Dismissal.
