BLACKOUTNIGHTS

Any other browncoats out there enjoying Leary's Rescue Me firefighter show on F/X? I love this show...which means it'll probably get canceled.

CHANNAIN

i DO aim to misbehave

I am enjoying it. I have to tape it because it's on a school night and catch up later. Denis Leary said it would be edgier than Thirdwatch, and he wasn't kidding.

Select to view spoiler:

I saw some character development last week, when the latest addition to Tommy's ghost menagerie vanished after he told his wife she deserved to find her happiness. I missed this week's though, with the psychiatrist.

And no, I'm not getting attached to it. Just because Nip and Tuck has been on for awhile now is no reason to think Rescue Me will survive. See how jaded I've become?

I'm all about firemen.

That great, Channain! Thank God there's someone else watching it. I haven't found anyone else where I'm at.

Also found this, looks like the show's doing pretty well....

From Don Kaplan of the New York Post

August 26, 2004 -- After setting the ratings charts ablaze, Denis Leary's cable drama "Rescue Me" has been picked up for a second season.

FX has renewed the show about New York City firemen, asking for at least 13 additional episodes. The series is filmed on location around New York City and draws about 9.5 million viewers over the course of its five airings each week.

It averages about 2 million viewers ages 18-49 — the key audience prized by advertisers — in its Wednesday 10 p.m. slot. That's turned out to be the highest total in that demographic for a new basic cable show this year.

Spoilers from last night's episode below...(by the way, how do you do that nifty deal where you highlight the section with your mouse to see the spoilers?)....

That should be good. It seems the dead people Tommy sees disappear when he lights a candle at the church for them. Although he started to develop a relationship with the psychiatrist, he pretty much lost it by destroying the guy's deck. Also...eegads, one of the firefighters dies next week.

And the theme song had to be my favorite of all time. It rocks my a$$ off.

I've been watching for the past 4 weeks and LOVE it! Are we going to have to wait until next summer to see season 2?? Jeez, I hope not.

Also, does anyone else think Tommy should have turned in the whack-job blonde who torched his house??? Hell-O!! Psycho!!

You asked about how to mask the spoilers... next time you go to make a post, have a look in the left hand navigation. There is a section called "commands" and that contains the start/stop commands for spoilers

Select to view spoiler:

this should be a spoiler. The start command is the square open bracket, the word spoiler and then the closeing square bracket. When I am ready to finish my spoilery section, I do the same again but instead of the word spoiler I use /spoiler.

Ok, when the heck is Tommy going to get in trouble for all the crap he does? He's drinking, bangin' every chick who breathes near him--including his dead brother's widow!--beating people up, closing their credit cards electronically, giving his dad bags of pills that kill monkies, almost burning junkies alive....my point: isn't this guy supposed to be SAVING people??

Opinions? Anyone?

Read the title of the show again. It's not referring to victims.

Which is, of course, why the show is so good.

EDIT - And I actually haven't been able to watch it consistently, damnit, so I have no idea what's up, but it's high on my to do list to catch up.

Oh, and he'll get in trouble eventually. Which will make it all the more interesting.

Radhil:

I don't know how much of the beginning of the season I missed. I just kind of stumbled over the show about 6 weeks ago. Also, I missed the ep where Tommy does his "What About Bob" impression, so I know how you feel. (FYI: I just wanted to continue this thread, I don't really want him to go to jail or anything.)

I've seen every episode of "Rescue Me" and "What About Bob?" is probably one of my favorite movies and I can't figure out what you're referring to as Tommy's Bob impression...

Jutin,

Well, I only saw the previews for it, not the ep itself, but the one 2(?) weeks ago where he makes friends with a psychiatrist and then proceeds to bombard him with questions and generally makes a pest of himself. Doesn't Tommy wreck his deck or something? Anyway, that's the episode I missed, so I could have gotten the wrong impression from the preview.

I saw one episode and didn't like it. Not passing judgement yet, as I had the same reaction to firefly though and look how wrong I was there.

Love this show! Makes me think, laugh, cry & sometimes cringe. That to me is the hallmark of a good story, it holds your interest & can bring you to the edge of your seat. I'm hoping this one sticks around for awhile.

I know Firefighters in NYC and I respect them tremendously. Having said that, the liberties taken by this show, in their opinion, are well within their welcoming arms. I LOVE this show!!
It is entertaining adn give a semi-realistic view of the FDNY. Most of all, it keeps our focus on people who are everyday heroes.

I'm not a civil servant, but Rescue Me helps us remember to thank our everyday heroes. It is a tribute to Leary that he keeps them in his mind and heart as he and his people write these episodes. I very much lok forward to next season.

It ended on such a low note.....

An excellent show

I think we're going to have to wait until next summer before the next season because that is about the same amount of time it was between seasons one and two of Nip/Tuck (which I don't watch regularly, but find the show fascinating whenever I'm able to catch it).

Great season finale for Rescue Me. I can't wait to see what happens next. Love the fight between the cops and firefighters at the hockey game. Fun....oh yeah, parents, don't let your children watch this show. It's not for the kiddies.

Well, Sky One has the rights to this in the UK- it starts Thursday 13th January at 10pm. So I'm thinking I should watch this....
