Howdy I am new to this forum but wanted to share this information that I came across with all of you. It may make a difference it may not. I was on www.serenityfirefly.com listening to season 2 # 17 podcast and the 1 year anniversary is coming up this month September 29-30, 2006. There has been no insurance if they are making a sequel to Serenity and they are asking all those who are fans that would want a sequel/trilogy to this series to sent a hand written letter to Universal Studios. We would like all these letters to be on the door steps of Universal on its anniversary and would like it to be attentioned to Donna Langley or Jon Gordon. I will be sending one and if there is anyone else who fell in love with the canceled TV series and then the Film we need help to keep this tale alive.

Now a little about me. I am 18 year old girl in college I love Firefly, Serenity, Battlestar Galatica, Star Wars and a bunch more. I am sorry for this being so long and if it was a waste of time.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Welcome aboard!
Thank you for restating our Anniversary Job! For anyone who wants more info, check out the Guerilla Marketing forum.
A more important thing to do to get a sequel greenlighted is to buy more copies of the movie. Give them as gifts, give them to libraries, keep them wrapped and pristene, whatever, but putting our Big Damn Movie well into the black is going to do more than letters. Letters are good, and they get some attention, but no amount of letters is going to translate to a profit. We need them to make a profit above all. No matter how much they like the movie (which they do) they won't make another unless it's cost-effective.
Keep spreading the word!

Welcome Aboard, GalacticMyth!
We're glad you found your way to FFF.net. I am planning my Shindig for the 'Versary on September 30th. I have been doing my best to tell others about Firefly and Serenity.

I think writing Universal is a great idea. It will be great if everyone takes a moment to let them know we appreciate what they have done. We love our BDM. There has been some discussion about weather to ask for a sequel or just say Thank You. Most threads that I have seen are leaning for just saying Thank You.

Phoenix Rose has a great point. Buying an extra copy of the movie for a friend or a library will have more of an effect on Universal. They are driven by the almighty dollar.

Thanks for signing on and sharing with us. We are a friendly group. If you ever want to talk, just get on the Cortex and send us a wave. There is always someone around.

I do agree, their are only looking for one major thing and unfortunately that is the dollar. But it seems that there are more and more fans now then when it came out in theaters and an even greater following now then before. I understand that they need a profit and a large one but to me it just seems that if they don't jump on this it'll bite them in the ass later on. I mean take the new Battlestar Galactica it is on its third season and as much as I am a fan of it I don't believe there as many loyal/dedicated fans as there are for Serenity. Universal takes risks they have with both seasons of BSG why not give Serenity one more shot. Again this is only my opinion.

September 29-30, 2006 is the Serenity Anniversary so write to Universal to thank them for the film and to tell them How much we want a sequal/trilogy, letters should be there on 29-30.

Actually, according to a recent interview I read, they don't even require a large profit, just enough to break even on marketing costs, production costs, etc. Our BDM is still in the red, but barely. A nice big push should put it into the black, and they can see that it's cost-effective, if not hugely profitable. And I can't imagine that they're missing how much the fanbase is growing, but they're going to be looking at their numbers. If they break even and make some profit, I think they'll take another risk

I hope I didn't say anything to lead you to believe that I don't believe in letting Univeral know that the fan base is growing. I have posted a pic and a wave at www.bigdamnthankyou.com, and I am sending a letter to Universal for September 30th.

Interesting that you brought up Battlestar Galactica. It was a TV series in 1978, and it was canceled. It was reborn as Galactica in 1980, but it was canceled also. They did the mini-series in 2003, and it waa successful enough for them to contiues with the series in 2004.

I am very optimistic that Universal will become aware of the growing number of Browncoats. Phoenix Rose is right. I have also read that Serenity is close to being in the black finacially.

To me, the best example out there is Dr Who. It was a TV show with low production values, but a massive fan base, yet it got put on hiatus a few times, and then cancelled in the 80s. For a long time, it looked like that was it. Then the tele-movie came along, but that was it for a few more years. Now it has high ratings, a large budget, and what looks to be a solid future as a permanent fixture in one of Britan's prime-time slots.

If they can do it, so can we.

If you find yourself getting too worked up about stuff that isn't real (RP Threads etc), then go outside, breathe in some fresh air and try feeding the ducks. (Because ducks don't care about your politics, religion, skin colour, choice of music or even your haircut. They like everyone, provided you bring them food.)

You are all correct, MONEY is the driver. I'm writing my letter today. AND I MADE A CONVERT!
Sorry about the yelling, its just that the person I converted isn't a sci-fi fan, I should know..its my sister. I gave her BDM for Christmas and just last week I bought the series for her and she watched 5 hours right away. Now she's a Browncoat, even calls 'him'....Capt'n Tightpants!
Now,...whos next......???

STORYMARK

Another thing to keep in mind, I've read recently that Universal is fairly desperate to find a new franchise. Right now, the best they have is the proposed 3rd Mummy/Rick O'Connel film, and the distant possibility of a Jurrasic Park 4.
