So did you get intouch with the strange man?

Come on, own up, did you download Britanny's latest single? You bad boy.

Simon - that suck, but at least if you get another job and take the voluntary redundancy, for a short while at least you'll be rolling in it - more mortgage payments, or, or, you can take yourself and this gorgeous, beautiful, talented, extremely grateful girl you know to D*C next year.

She how i can distract you from your woes by making it all about me? Thats a gift that is.

No, seriously, it sucks, and i know you liked working there, but like you said, your CV is a goodun, and you'll have no problems finding new work, i hope you like the next as much as you liked this one.

Jade - sleep with one eye open

Serenity - thimbles? 64 for five dollars? Thats very cheap, and they're rubbery you say? Well, thats a very silly image I've got stuck in my head now.

I'm afraid that it's because the company is out of money that this is happening, plus I've not been there for two years so they're not obliged to give me anything. Sorry Seryn, much as I'd like to, I don't see a Dragon*Con in our future.

This morning wasn't fun in the office. Hopefully there will be a swift resolution, one way or the other.

And the boss has gone off to New York regardless. That's a mistake but I can understand why he's gone. A shame because it really was a great office to work in.

Aw, SW, that is not good news!

but perhaps you'll find something even better. That would be a positive. I'm sorry you're having to leave a job you love, though. Those are rare and hard to find!

Seryn: they're little silicon ovals that you stick in your fingertip. I tried one out last night and it worked great. I got a lot more sewing done because I wasn't stabbing myself. And, it had a little dent in it where I kept pushing the needle in, but I couldn't feel it. So, yay!

I want to try one of those medieval thimbles, that is just a metal ring that goes around the tip of your finger, but they're hard to find. These will do for now!

How was everyone's All Hallow's Eve?

We didn't get very many trick or treaters, only about 10, but Spiderman and Batman made appearances, so no complaints.

Happy All Saints Day. Or Dia de los Muertes, is that's more your cuppa. Let us remember and celebrate those that have passed on before us.

Howdy, all.
Simon, I have not been following what's been happening, but it does not sound good...I'm sorry for you!

Serenity, so you solved the thinble problem! Good! As for the medieval ones, if you can find a picture, I might be able to fashion one.
Something else you may want to consider is a sail-maker's thimble (or "palm")-- http://www.go2marine.com/product.do?no=90996F

Thanks for messages of sympathy; much appreciated.

Anyway, for me thimbles a) must be made of metal and b) have only two uses: as a counter in Monopoly (though it is not much sought after) and a collection of four to put in each finger and make horse galloping sounds on the table.

Thanks, I'm hoping for that too!

Anyway, that brings to mind another topic: place the Monopoly counters in your personal order of preference (favourites first, the one you poked your sister in the eye to get first). Here's mine:

Car, Dog, Hat, Boat, Boot, Thimble, Iron

You may have had different counters in your set, maybe the wheelbarrow, cannon or horseman.

That doubly sucks, triple suck, in fact i think theres a suck in there for every day of the week. Yes, fnar fnar, but i couldn't think how to rephrase it) Any new job opportunities today?

Hello, Mark, you know, i believe they have drugs for that.

When i was little my mother had a thimble that fit around the tip of her finger, and it had a hook type thing on the side that had a blade on the inside edge for cutting the thread. Nifty.

Yes, they do sound very useful, and plentiful, and the needle really can't get through them?

Yes, but did you offer them your loaner Firefly dvd set and your spare copy of Serenity in order to convert them? Or were you afraid such an action might simply strengthen their subservient ways via an identification with the "Alliance"?

To my mom goes all the credit, for the 9 months of hemmerhoids and all, not to mention the labour and the pain of birthing. I've never quite got around to the concept of receiving accolades and gifts just for surviving another circle around Sol. Whereas, it has always made sense to me to gift my mother for all that she went through to help me become me, for whatever that's worth. So, really peeps, honour yer moms' on yer birthday, cuz it's the logical path, okay?

Here's cozen's feel good story for today. So, it being my birthday, it means it's the last day I have to renew the licence on my gorram car. Naturally, the Ministry of Transport office nearest my house is, without my previous knowledge, closed down for good. Mutter, mutter, whine. On the sidewalk outside the shuttered office is an Ukrainian ex-pat, 70-ish, licence renewal forms in hand, pacing circles about the sidewalk with the aid of his cane. In broken English, he asks me if it's possible that I might drive him to the next Office, on account of he has no gorram clue where said office is. Well, of course I agree to do so, I mean, really, how can I not?

Wow. It's 20 minutes, in traffic, to the next nearest facility, and in that time this old gent brushes off his horrid past in the bad old USSR, and focuses on how fortunate he's been to escape to find a new, comfortable life in wonky Canadaland. Point is, he did so, in his broken English, without judgement, without anger. It's kinda hard for me to properly explain this.

Context: whilst my own dad was alive, I never failed to thank him, once a year at least, for what he did to bring our family to this admittedly flawed, but nonetheless better-than-anywhere-else-I've-ever-experienced land.

I'm not articulating this well. Guess you had to be there, I dunno.

It's been a great day for me.

Please excuse the maudlin, if you will. It's just kinda weird that all of the above should occur on a random anniversary, is all.

Alrighty then, It's a long day. yes, the 14 hour shift again, but extra long this time. Very little sleep, more like a 30 minute nap. However, I'll be home again in just over 6.5 hours. I don't think I'll be driving the hour to a friends late Halloween party. But I'll be around if you need me brother. Should be wide awake again by then. And who knows? Maybe my ears will stop bleeding by then. (not literally, just feels like it) This many hours around someone who just likes to scream, really sucks.

LIGHTMEDARK

thanks, brother...got home last night, watched the latest BSG, then went to bed and passed out. Just to summarize the events of the past couple of weeks: received a letter from the semi driver from my accident last december that he was going to be coming after me for lost wages (around $13,000...and he was only out of work a month =/), we picked up a stray about a week ago and ended up having to turn it in to the humane society a couple of days ago (first time i've cried in almost six years), my car was towed by the city at my expense ($200 for 1/3 of a mile =/) due to their own idiocy (i'm currently in contact with the mayor about that), and a couple other things.

I'll survive, though ;)
