I don't think everyone is into that sort of thing, it takes all sorts and all that. Personally I inflict pain on myself all the time, everything from punching gravel bags until my fists bleed to being hit by staffs. We call it IronMan Gee Kung training, preparing the body to accept the rigour of combat in the most violent way possible. The body 'learns' by doing, so if you want your body to be able to take a hit during a fight, you have to be hit over and over again in controlled circumstances. I've never been turned on by it though.
