Excellent Seph has a dance partner, and Serenity is providing music. That leaves me to focus my attention on Seryn. I'm afraid I don't know a Mr. Darcy (other than from Married with Children) but I'll still enjoy the dancing.

And expensive (in terms of dry cleaning)

Really its nothing like sex - no one is worrying about their love handles, theres are no bizarre noises, no one is pulling silly faces and you can do it in front of grandma, so...

But it is a very 'intimate' dance you can only do with someone you know really well. Theres lots of er, contact.

He gets all the facts right, and yet leaves out the most important factor.

Mr Darcy is The Perfect Man. (well, for a substantial portion of the female population)

He has taste, wit, discretion, intelligence, looks, exquisit manners, self control, grace and and morals. He isn't a total joker and he's not always spouting his mouth off, but he is capable of fun and affection and he's educated and articulate.
He has his faults yes, er pride and arrogance being the main two, but (and this is the kicker) He Can Admit That He Is Wrong (shock!) and does his damndest to change and Learns From His Mistakes.

Oh, yeah, theres also his magnificent house at Pemberly.

So erm, i'm going to sit back down here in the corner and calm down. Yeah, sounds good.

I beg to differ. I admit I have not read the book so maybe I know not of what I speak, but three movies worth of characterization tells me that Mr. Darcy is not perfect or let's just say I can't imagine watching that movie as a young man and saying to myself, "when I grow up I want to be just like him." Or maybe I can't identify with the time and place.

Ok, so aside from the house and the looks, you've just described me as well. (see evidence of the arrogance and admitting faults)
ok, maybe not an overabundance of grace.

Must have been my contrary nature kicking in. Or maybe I was doing something more subtle.
Isn't Eliza's first impression of Mr. Darcy that he is a uptight, block of stone, who couldn't smile to save his life. Now Wickam makes a fine first impression, but he's no gentleman. Mr. D's character is revealed slowly. In fact it takes the whole story to see who he is.
Rather than play the yes man and agree with everything you say or claim to be a the perfect embodyment of Mr. D, I play the foil for you by creating opposition. What you might ask yourself is what do you know about me. Don't I in fact have many of those qualities? Not all of them mind you, and I'm not single, but I never claimed to be perfect (unlike some people).

One day I'll have the time to read everything I want to and everything my friends want me to. I have whole bookshelves set aside for future reading, but enough about me.

*hugs right back*

Thanks seryn, that means a lot. Sorry about your best friend. It's a very odd feeling- to lose someone so close to you. I won't rant a lot but I'll give a brief overview of what's going on. We've been friends since the sixth grade and my friend is now at college in New Zealand, I am at college here in virginia, US. We decided to apply to college together in england and scotland- risky and a bit out there but we both needed a change. Well, she ended up applying somewhere else with someone who was not me. I got upset, she thinks I'm overreacting and don't have the whole story and what was probably a big misunderstanding has turned into a collossal fight. The big problem is that we're both quite stubborn and are now dragging other events into it...anyway, things have been building up for a few years (what we hate about each other- that sort of thing) and it's just gotten out of hand at this point. I don't know if we'll continue to be friends but I think it's safe to say that we're gonna stop talking for awhile. But I'm glad I can come talk to you guys about it...hugs all around!

Sounds like more of a reason than I had (I too was stubborn - I got sick of being taken for granted, treated like a stand in for her collage friends and having to listen time after time to her moaning about her boyfriend, her crap life and too many invented dramas to name. So I told her what I thought one night, then made one reparative overture. Then decided if she wanted me around, she had to work for it and call me. I haven't spoken to her since.)

Hopefully this will be a break and not an end. I do hope you patch it up. But you still have to come to england for uni! Liverpool has three world class universities (hint hint)

Haha, do you live in liverpool? It's really odd though- your friend sounds a LOT like mine. I too feel taken for granted (have for years) and it's really starting to get to me. It sounds like you made the right decision though. Friendships can't be one sided- you both have to work on it, and I often feel like I'm working on it more than she is.

Exactly - my reasoning was if she really valued it she'd miss it and make contact - I didn't even need an apology - but if she didn't, then I was better off with out her.

I miss having that one 'best' friend, specially as theres been no significant other to take up the duties, but on the whole, i'm happier not being dragged through the mud constantly. So fear not!

('sides, I have you guys - you may all not be there physically, but i've never been in a situation before where I can say something and people actually understand me! I'm as happy as a pig in poop.

This is why I love the nook! I get the whole 'dragged through the mud thing'. I just sent my "friend" an email that will probably end our friendship forever. At the moment I'm oddly okay with it.

Okay, I don't mean to play devil's advocate, but I feel I need to say this.

Yes, it's not fair when friendships are one sided and you feel you've been taken advantage of, but look at it from the side of the other person. I've been in this situation before. Being a rather self-assured, dominant personality, I tend to have introverted, quiet friends who don't always tell me what they are REALLY thinking. I may say or do something that hurts their feelings, but I don't always know it because they DON'T TELL ME. So, for them, things build up, grievance after grievance stacking one on top of the other and I'm over here grievance-less because if I have a problem with my friend I tend to deal with it before it becomes a huge issue.

And then, what happens is that one day I do something small, but it's the one thing that throws my friend over the edge, we have a huge blow up, she drags up all these things from months and years past that I wasn't even aware of. Suddenly, I'm this horrible horrible person who'd done so many terrible and mean things, completely unaware that I'd done them.

Now, I would hope that I've grown from having this happen to me in the past, and I try very hard to keep good communication with my friends. But I have lost friends this way and it really really hurts (especially when it happens on your 18th birthday). But, I've always been able to reconcile with some other friends and our relationships have become stronger because of it.

Long story, sorry, and I do hope it doesn't apply in your case.

And I hope hope that you can work things out. I'm sorry you've been hurt, I really am. But you must come to D*C and party with us and forget your woes!

That's awful Serenity, we all seem to have bad luck where friends are concerned:) My situation is more like, my "friend" would prefer it if I didn't voice my opinion or feelings. She's more the pretend it doesn't exist and it'll go away type. I usually let things slide cause it's just easier but this situation was too important to just forget about it.
Anyway, what's done is done and I feel better that I confronted her about the situation.

I would love to come to D*C but it really all depends on my school schedule but otherwise it shouldn't be a problem. However, if I do go, how will I know who you guys are? We'll need name tags with our FFF.net names on them.
