Gardenstate and Amelie.

actually the the message in gardenstate is more 'get off the drugs yer dad has had you on fer god knows how long, move out of La La Land and fall in love with Natalie Portman' but thats a bit specific for me.

I mean, Natalie Potman is gorgeous, but she just doesn't do it for me...

I remember hearing a lot of things about Gardenstate, before it came out, then I think there were delays or something, then I heard nothing after it came out. So, I missed it. Might have to look it up now.

oh do, do, all watch and enjoy.

Though, seeing as i'm not expecting to do much sleeping anyway, i'll bring them to D*C, so we can watch them should we want an alternative to the BDM on repeat (yeah, like that'd ever happen )

So don't bust a gut trying to watch them, but if you get the chance, do.

Yes early Sept can be warm, and around all those people with little air flow, well, people get sweaty. I know it gets busy, and people don't want to miss anything, but Shower is NOT the step to skip. Being in the hotel where everything is happening should even give more time. Last two years, I had to travel to the con from a different hotel, I just decreased my sleep time. Zombie.

And if at all possible, try for TWO SHOWERS a day.

I've been pondering buying loads of those little trail sized deoderants to carry around and hand out. Or something that smells nice that I could spray into the air.

I am very sensitive to smells, so the Con Funk REALLY got to me last year. Elevators on Monday were torture.

*wonders if she really want to go to the con that much*

*Febreeze!*

I have a solution, invite a febreeze standee to the con to hand out little free samples to the people in the sweatiest cotumes.
when I was working in the collage theatres a lot of the costumes, especially the makes, could ony be dry cleaned, so the end of every night as an antidote to the sweaty yukkiness - just imagine how sweaty a fat-suit wth up to 10 inches of padding can get - everything got almost drowned with febreeze and its cheaper knock offs. it works bloody well, I tend to carry a small travel bottle of it whenever I go away anywhere for when you've been to stinky smokers pubs and stuff.

For de-funking the atmosphere I would reccomend this stuff called Oust, it works on doggy wind and therefore has my undying affection. I would reccomend we stock up for the con

Well, now that i've finished trying to sell other peoples products for them...

we at least should be ok with three costumes each, well, I have three, I have my pirate costume for pirate day, a lovely skirt in chinese print silk that is very Inara, that I thought I would bring along, and of course, the wackiest of the lot, my 'me' costume.

I understand if no-one wants to be seen with me in such outlandish apparel as my Me costume...

Tee hee.

I didn't dress up last year. I wore my 2 Firefly shirts and my Jayne hat. and I wore my red chinese dress to the Shindig we had (and some guy on the street thought I was "for sale" and tried to get me to get in his car!!!) but that was it. I wore my blue chinese shirt and carried a parasol in the parade.

This year, I'm considering throwing together a Saffron costume for the parade, just for fun. I wish D*C was after S3 because one of my goals is to get a sari when I'm in London (cuz I sure as heck can't get one around here!) and it'd be fun to wear one if we have another Shindig.

Needleseye was supposed to be making me an Inara style shirt like the one she wore to the BDMPP, but I haven't heard from her in months so I think I may have to give up the ghost on that.

So as of right now, I have the pirate costume.
And if KOL and I ever get our acts together, we may dress as Zoot and Dingo one day.

That's about it.

I cannot stand the smell of Febreeze. I tried it once since the carpet in my old apartment was old and musty smelling. Didn't like it. But I've never tried Oust.

COZEN

For special occassions such as meeting with swell Browncoat folk, I am ever willing to upgrade to golf shirts -- they have collars -- above my shorts/Levis.

As for dresses, anything of sufficient length to cover the hairy legs. Fortunately I don't require a bra, lucky me! Then again, sadly, corsets just won't work

yeah, febreeze in itself is a little hinky, but is better than the alternative.
I like this cheap knock off stuff you can get in one of the local pound shops round here, it smells like talcum powder.
The ferret likes it, I sprayed the cat bed the other day and got it on me and the ferret tried to eat my jumper. Makes a nice change from her trying to eat me.

that no excuse, i'm on the wrong corner of the planet!

but oh well if you cant make it.

I baught the boning yesterday, and finally remebered to get some aviation snips to cut them with (eeeeeeevil looking things, they could be straight out of Niska's toybox)

so this weekend as soon as i've finished my mask and stuff its straight onto mocking up the basic shape. I'll send you an email at some point to get your measurements. Do you have any corset type tops already? cause if you have it eliminates the guess work, makes Helen a happier bunny, and means it doesn't kill you at D*C.

I found a great skirt yesterday ('pirate' is in fashion at the moment, yey!) so I may just rethink my pants and waist sash combo.

My problem is always boots, perheps even more that big het a pirate has to have great boots, and i never find any I like... well search continues...

We've, me and my friends, been getting a laugh about "boning" at Renn Faires and SCA for years. It just never seems to get old. I guess I'm just a simple creature.

Period footwear is always the killer. To get something that is anywhere near authentic that won't turn your into a moaning cripple without robbing you blind is a real struggle. It like a sign I saw a machine shop once: "Good, cheap, fast; choose two."

I'll have to think about skirts. I can make 'em up quick, that's not a problem. What's more problematic is a shirt to wear under the bodice. Like an off the shoulder puffed sleeve thing. Mmmmm. The idea is to show off just a little and hint at more.

And I really want a hat. But hats are hard to come by, and expensive.

As to measurements, etc. 1) I don't have a corset that fits anymore. I did years ago, but since then I've dropped a bunch of weight. (And, I made the corset myself, quite proud of that fact.)
2)I'll have dropped even more weigh before D*C. I've got at least another 20lbs I want to lose.

How should we figure that in with the corset? I can send you current measurements anytime you want them. And I'll get busy on the weight-losing. I've been really bad about it lately.

Also, I'll be buying D*C tickets the beginning of Feb (once I get paid again.)

Helen Lisa Christine Myra Angelina bren...

Nope, kidding, Helen Young.

*yawn*

I should have been Elynor after a lindisfarne song that my mother loved, but no, dad had to get all practial.

One of these days i'm going to have to marry someone just for their really interesting surname.

Well, from my point of view it would be best if you stopped loosing wieght RIGHT NOW. but seeing as thats an impossible think to ask, i'm gonna have to leave your corset for as long as possible, as these corsets just don't look that good loose.

One of my friends when she was getting hers done went into a lingerie shop, took a load of corsets in to the changing room, found the one she was comfortable in then qucikly took her measurements in the change room. Very cheeky, but effective.

normally id work from your uncorseted proportions, and do the reductions physically, but theres no way to do fittings, so I need some indication of how your body reacts to being squished...

*envisions Citizen and Jadehand drooling over keyboards, SR having licentious thoughts and LMD falling off his chair over thats last statement*

I know, why don't we continue this in a private thread? well... we can't stop them reading, but we can absolutely forbid them to post anything thats not a sensible question, on pain of never getting to see us in the corsets...

And if I called them stays? would that help people composure?

P.S cheers Sean, how much do I owe you, and what did you end up calling me? hey? hey?

I said Helen cause I saw you mention it as your name somewhere, but I just said:

So no change there then.

I spoke to The big-man himself, so Sean Harry now probably thinks he's sold tickets to a stalker so crap that he can't even get the last name first or something...

It came to £160-something, so about £80 I guess.

The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four persons is suffering from some sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends -- if they're okay, then it's you.

My WIFE! Wha...? She's not my wife!

Poor Sean, did you get that god awful nickname in school? or is adding a 'y' to the end of everyones surname just a northern thing?

yeah, I just google imaged her, seeing if I recognised her from anything, the first image was a monatge of her in a naked scene....

I should have just gone straight to IMDB...

Yeah, Bladerunner, thats where she's from, ah, 'dedicated' fanbase that girl.

Can't you cancel that order and then go for the dicount, I don't mind pretending (but yes, we've had a tiff, you're too familiar with that busty blonde secretary and I'm beginning to question all that overtime...)
