I understand...I think I missed the angst thing, though, so I am not sure about that. If I have offended and/or exasperated, I apologize. It is Monday morning, I am wide awake at work, and was looking to have a little fun. I did not mean to irk in any way.

Maybe at DragonCon, you may be able to convince some young, nubile males to fan you and feed you grapes...

Holding until you get back , Captain.

You've got a myspace page, how do you sign up?

I've tried using their sign up thing but it doesn't work, it either says my postcode is invalid or the very useful:

Or is it just me that gets problems with these bloody things?

Are grapes still brought to people in hospital in England? Maybe that's why Seryn dislikes them so much...bad association.

Me, I'd much prefer a strawberry. Now, if only I looked like this while I was eating one:

Strawberries...can't tolerate them myself, but watching someone enjoy them...that's another story!

I was not aware that hospitals in England fed their wonded/sick grapes...that may be a good reason for disliking them.

Food for thought, at the least...

Hospitals here feed the living patients a green mush made from dead patients and soya.

Grapes are brought in traditionally by relatives. It's encouraged because it helps the Soyafication process.

I like oatmeal cookies and I like oatmeal raisin cookies when I'm in the mood for them. But chocolate chip is the best.

I like grapes and raisins and chocolate covered raisins and some wines and grapejuice and stuffed grapeleaves and being fanned by nubile young men by giant grape leaves and fed grapes while reclining on a chair near the beach.

Just thought I'd put my two pence in.

Funny this should come up. A few days ago I was surfing through Whedonesque and noticed their cunningly hidden and cryptcally named link, "Tag: joss+post" which leads to a list of all threads in which our master has posted to. In this thread http://whedonesque.com/comments/9718 he touches on the subject in question.

Quote:

The people who create a word have no more control over it than the people who created the constitution have control over how it's used today. Language is liquid. 'Doubt' used to mean 'believe'. "The Great and Terrible Oz" is a phrase that would seem contradictory today. Oh, and 'nubile' is defined around 1900 as 'of marriagable age'. Even if you create a word, you cannot control how its meaning will bend -- often to its very opposite. That's part of the fun. Brigadoon: In Gay Technicolor!

In short the dictionary definition of nubile hasn't caught up with how the word is used in modern language. The fact that the modern usage descends from a definition that didn't make the dictionary (it's more or less the victorian era equivalent of "barely legal" and didn't make the dictionaries of the time since victorian era lexicographers were even more repressed than the average victorian era peeps) just muddies up the water a bit.

DaveShanyne,
Thank you for that enlightenment (I am not being sarcastic). I had always been under the impression that the modern definition of "nubile" meant young (yet sexually mature),attractive, and well-formed. Unfortunately, the modern definition of "attractive" seems to be stick-figure females (according to the runway models); but it seems to be getting better. I am of the theory that a person is beautiful if they feel comfortable in their own skins. So, my definition of nubile may be different than others.

No, no, I don't want to be fanned by a machine. I detest fans in general. I'd rather be fanned by a person, so I figure if I start the fanning than, I can eventually get someone else to fan me! It's a (hopefully) brilliant plan.

Though your contraption is quite ingenious, really. I'm just partial to palm fronds and grape leaves is all.
