Ya know, the sun really IS a mass of incandescent gas.

I used to have 2 or 3 of theirs on CD, till they got ganked (along with about 3/4 of my music collection and my acoustic guitar, bastards). Good stuff, though I sort of have to be in a certain mood to listen to more than a couple songs.

I'm a massive Common Ro fan but have yet to hear much TMBG. I love Common Rotation's cover of Don't let's start. For people who don't know, their albumn was produced my TMBG, and Common Ro have toured with them.

I'm a fan. :) My favorite albums are Lincoln and John Henry. (Mink Car is my least favorite, haven't even bothered to buy it).

TMBG is great. Anyone else like my *favorite* band, Oingo Boingo? ;)

Lol, me too. Turns out they're actually alluding to hats (the rock is a yo-yo). Basically, the stupidity of passing fads. :) But I got the same image, and continue to think of that because I think it's funny.

So, in the interest of actually starting a discussion: What is everyone's favorite TMBG songs?

Here's my list of favorites:

Don't Let's Start
She's an Angel
Ana Ng
Where your Eyes Don't go
Hearing Aid
Hall of Heads
Snail Shell
Mink Car
Wearing a Raincoat
Museum of Idiots

There are a lot more that I really love, but I went with what I consider TOP favorites. These are the songs I can listen to over and over and always love. These are the songs I'm delighted to show up next on shuffle on my iPod playlist.

Anyone else care to share?

lOVE THEM! Loved the documentary. Was one of my son's favorite groups -- he was especially fond of "Particle Man." :-)

My daughter's favorite is, I think, Birdhouse in Your Soul (or something like that) plus she frequently quotes others, like "The Sun is a Mass of Incandescent Gas" and something about a squirrel.

Didn't they redo "Constantinople" also?
We liked that, too.

They make me proud to be geeky.

But I don't know any of the ones you listed, AnotherFireFly [edit]-- we only stumble on stray songs from friends. Do they have a greatest hit album out there?

I *knew* I liked you guys!

There actually is a greatest hits, called "Dial-a-song" a two disc set. Of course, not all of my favorites are on there, but that's greatest hit albums for ya

I strongly recommend picking up "Then: the earlier years". It contains the entire first two albums, PLUS Miscellaneous T (an album of older B-sides), PLUS several bonus fun snippets - all for a considerable low price. Both the albums alone are terrific, and Lincoln, the 2nd one (included), is one of my favorites. :)

I'm a pretty recent fan, actually. This summer I just kept buying more and more of their albums and stuff. They're lots of fun in concert, too! And yes, I own the documentary too. Oh, I also recommend the DVD "Direct from Brooklyn", which contains music videos for Doctor Worm, Snail Shell, The Guitar, The Statue Got Me High, Istanbul (Not Constantinople), Birdhouse in Your Soul, They'll Need a Crane, Purple Toupee, Ana Ng, (She Was a) Hotel Detective, Don't Let's Start, and Put Your Hand Inside the Puppet Head. (The only song I don't like on there is Hotel Detective, all the others are fantastic. This was also my first TMBG purchase, and I never looked back.)

Would you believe that I listen to them EVERY day. It's not that hard. They do the theme song for "Higglytown Heros". It's a show on Playhouse Disney that my 3 year old watches. They even have "cameos" from time to time with the songs "video".

I'm in between semesters, but starting again soon. Actually, I wouldn't normally be online as early as I have been, except I've got a temporary job at the Library of Congress.

But I do tend to spend quite a bit of time on the Firefly forums.

It would be cool to have a meetup at a concert! Of course, there is still some considerable distance between us all. We'll have to see how things pan out.

Also you got Hotel Detective on there twice. Does that mean you like both of them (two songs with the same name... very confusing)?

A few of those I haven't heard. Must be B-Sides. Several I have, though. Comes from listening to the TMBG Clock Radio a lot ;)

thought you guys might like to know that recently John Linnel wrote and performed a song on NPR, for a show called "The Next Big Thing". He was asked to write a song using words that are about to removed from the dictionary becuase of lack of use. The words were:
contrecoup, limerent and craniosphic

Here's a link to the lyrics and an .mp3 of the song which is quite good and very funny. http://gwaldon.blogspot.com/ (it's the jan 16th post)

The last TMBG Cd i got was "Mink Car" I liked about half the tracks, but their albums have been getting shorter and shorter recently. Mink Car has some gems though. "What word rhymed with buried alive?"
