I've seen so many cool GIFs here. I'm totally jealous and want to make some for myself.

So what programs do you guys use? What's user-friendly and is there any free downloadable programs from the web or do I need to make a trip to Best Buy?

It's easy. It's ~beyond~ easy. And it's free too! Or it can be.

One free software is GIMP - Gnu Image Manipulation Program. It's open source and freely available for everyone. You can download it from www.gimp.org. Because it's open source their are tonnes of tutorials on the website too. It's well worth a look.

My stuff is made using Serif Draw Plus, which actually doesn't have the nifty image editing tools that GIMP has. I got my copy free with a web design magazine. Mine is version 5, and they're up to version 8 now. Hence the giveaway. You can check Serif's website - www.serif.com - and see if they're giving anything away at the moment. They do that sometimes. Or you can splash out and get one of the later ones and blow my stuff out of the water completely.

I know there are video ripping tools around somewhere that let you capture and create animations from DVD footage, but I have no idea where they are or how they work. Superflous must though, because... well, I'm sure you've seen Superfluous' stuff in the Blue Sun Room!

A word of warning. Animating is *highly* addictive. Once you start you cannot stop!
