Hello everyone. I just joined this website. I am a native Chinese speaker (mandarin) and I read/write traditional chinese. I'm happy to be part of a firefly community and I will be more than happy to answer any questions anyone may have (to my best ability of course)

Hey! Congratulations on finding this site, you won't be disappointed. The more browncoats, the merrier the browncoats are!

Greetings Lithi! And Welcome!
There is a site here you might be interested in:
http://fireflychinese.home.att.net/index.html
(maybe you can discuss with them if you find any errors)
Also you might want to look at some of the old episode discussions,
feel free to revive any thread that interests you because none of us are tired of discussing the show!

Have you watched any of Joss Whedon's other shows (ie Buffy or Angel)?
Or have you read any of his comic books?

Have fun checking out 'The Blue Sun Room' where all the fanfic and WPs reside.

And did I say 'Welcome!'?

Welcome! Your expertise will be greatly appreciated. Speaking as one who is about to be writing a Chinese character, I would like to be able to humbly call upon your services. In fact, there's a couple of lines from a fan fic I already finished that I'd like checked out, if you don't mind.

I have a question too - did the Chinese language spoken in the series come across as authentic to you, or send you into fits of giggling from the mismanagement? I mean both in terms of the language and the accents.

OOOOooo. Thank you for the fresh wine, but aren't wines better with age? I'll keep my bottle for a few years then.

If you link me, or email me, I'd be more than happy to check out your lines.

The pronounciation in the shows are actually pretty bad. I watch with closed caption turned on so I can "read" whatever they are supposed to say. But I loved the concept of that in the future everyone speaks Chinese.

Hi, thank you for the welcome. Here is a little tip for composing a Chinese sentence. The logic of putting different parts together is to start big and work towards the small.

In English, I would say that I'm from Winchester, Virginia, USA, Planet Earth.

In Chinese, I would have to say that I'm from Planet Earth, USA, Virginia, Winchester City.

Your sentence would be best arranged as follow:
[welcome to][on this earth][the best firefly website]

Hope that helped :)

Yes, that's much better. Do you use Big5 or GB? Just add "come to" after "welcome" and it'd be a great sentence.

I use neither, it’s homemade. It was created specifically for Latin, as a tool for my novel.

I wanted to learn Japanese, and when experimenting with various Hiragana and Katakana one cannot ignore Kanji. This led me to want to learn Chinese. I was surprised how difficult it was for me, and frankly I have been sticking to Japanese, which is easy.

I use the tool, mainly to communicate with people who do not speak English online.

I took Japanese classes as well. With my Chinese and English backgrounds, I too found it quite simple.

Hi! I'm new too! It's great that so many people from loads of countries are joining, but it's great that you can speak Mandarin. Any original phrases to say to someone who's really annoying you. I would be very greatful. I can only speak English and a bit of Welsh and French.

...and we will call it...this land...

Some of the Chinese is actually subtitled [Chinese] However, the subtitles are often wrong. I would love to learn how to pronounce a few swear words and perhaps "little sister", for some close female friends.
welcome to the "Verse.
Do the "Chinese:For Dummies" books have honorific pronounceations? for instance "Little sister," I doubt it.

JOSSISAGOD,

mei mei is one of the easiest phrase to pronounce. I am uncertain if your post was a question or a statement.
