I'm still flying in 2021. How about you?

I didn't get to see Firefly much when it was airing, so I bought the DVD collection. A little surprising to me was that my 13 yr. old son likes it as much as I do.
He let me know that he is a little upset that there were so few made. He wants more! Who doesn't?
After TV is over their self love affair with "reality shows" (How can you call it "REALITY" when there are cameras present at all times?)then we can get back to some STORY TELLING.......
Remember that? Twilight Zone. Star Trek. Even Mama's Family for cryin' out loud had stories!
Firefly was too good for TV. Big Screen, here we come! And we're bringing our kids!!!

I'm gonna be bringing my parents. ^_^ I'm a 12-year-old who can't get enough of good shows like Firefly and Buffy and MST3k (It looks a bit out of place, though). I'm gonna be first in line for that Friday night showing of 'Serenity', even though I know people might be a bit freaked out when I start dancing around, singing the theme song...

Let's hope the reality TV era finds it's end in the near future. Aside from a select few shows, I find it pointless and stupid. Bring me some good Joss Whedon projects any time.

"Bwaa...it's kind of a warrior...strikes fear into the hearts of..."
The above rant has been brought to you by the Bored Twelve-Year-Old Association. (BTYOA)

It amazes me that Firefly can be so appealing to me and yet still be nearly completely kid-safe.
The only things I fast forward when the kids are watchin is when Inara is sexing(I just find it difficult and possibly inappropriate explaining sex to a 3 and 5 year old) and the torture scene from "war stories".

Dont get me wrong, I wouldnt change a thing with Firefly, I am obliged to responsibly filter what my kids watch is all.

I'm 16 and I loved the show from day 1.
My sister (7) watched all the shows with me when they first aired and literally jumped up and down when the DVD sets came (my mom was a bit ticked over her seeing a certain scene in Heart of Gold though) and she can rattle off at least 10 Firefly quotes. All in all my sister rules

My kids and I, AND my husband, all really enjoyed the show. The hubby could live without it, but my 12yo son and 14yo daughter are eagerly awaiting the movie with me. She swears she's going to drag all of her friends to the movie with her. That's my girl! My son's been telling all of his friends about it. We can't wait!

Yeah, I know several teenagers who love it-more so than adults generally! I think it's great that so many people of different ages and cultures love the show (although my Grandma wasn't too keen).

Does anyone know what the BDM is goign ot be rated? On the website it says, "This film is not yet rated".
If it really stays along the lins of the show, I'd say somewhere between PG and PG13.

I'm a fan (duh!), my husband is a fan and our 2 1/2 year old son is a fan! At the end of an episode, our son asks to watch more! He also loves to imitate the demon-figure that goes across the screen and says "grrr, argh". It's actually very cute.

P.S. I'm new and this is my first post.

okay, i'm almost 19 now, and i've loved firefly since i was 17. I do think people underestimate teenagers, tho, i think i wud have loved this show even at the age of about 10. After all i can't have been much older than that when i fell in love with buffy.

I've not met anyone who is an adult who likes firefly, but my dad loved buffy as much as me, and even my mum, who is anti "american-stupid-pointless-anti-religious-scifi"
used to watch buffy

Just FYI, I believe the BDM has been officially rated PG-13.

Frankly, a slightly different cut could easily have gotten it rated R for violence.

And, theDuke..if I understand your characterization of your mom's attitude correctly, I think she misunderstands. "Firefly" may be created by an avowed atheist, but it's certainly respectful of religion, or at least religious people (though the same can't be said for Mal). If anything, "Buffy" was more into satirizing/attacking what you might call the dark side of religion with bad guys like M.O.O. and Caleb.

she isn't crazily religious, and she's never seen firefly. However, she did get Buffy, and what it was doing with metaphors etc. i think i had not explained quite how i ahd intended, that she dislikes those kinds of programs, not because neccessarily of the morals in them, but finds the content unstomacable, however, she was very much into buffy. I always got the feeling she never really understood it.

This has always led me to believe that far from charmed being a tamed down (obvious rip off) kids teeny bopper Tv program, it is actually Buffy for the adults with less concentration span for mythology and darkness.

If I had died before I watched , actually watched, Firefly I would have most likeley gone to the special hell.

I grew up with Star Wars being the big movie, the Do All, End All of sci-fi/space opera. Serenity and Firefly have so far surpassed anything that George Lucas had ever dreamed of.
I remember waiting in line as a 6 year old kid to watch Star Wars, then 3 years later doing it again for Empire, and so on and so forth. When I discovered they had cancelled Firefly, I unplugged my TV.
My kids, 7,7,9,10, all love the show and thought the movie was fantastic. Joss Whedon has created a masterpiece that transcends genres, generations, and so much more.
So, for all you TV/Movie Studio execs out there don't don't want to invest in such an amazing venture as this one...

Jayne, yer mouth is talkin'. You might want to look to that.

There is one thing that is sad though. I was at school and a kid said his favorite movie was "Serenity". Naturally I got ecited but it turns out all he payed attention to was the shooting and stuff. I was really dissapointed. (I'm a stufent at a Jr. High)

Two of them were already joss fans, but not really avid. one had never seen anything joss. the two joss fans have since seen the pilot episode (which i have on DVD) and they really liked that too. i'm going to have a shindig soon, to show of our favourite show to all my friends.

I'm 14. *shrug* I can't help it, man!

Although when I said that I was starting High School this year to my friends on this other forum (not Serenity/Firefly based), they all thought I was in my twenties, and not a 14 year old girl.

I'm one of the few teenage fans who weren't converted by their parents. I converted my dad. Which rules, because he's willing to drive me the 40 minute drive to see Serenity (I've seen it 3 times. Yay.

I didn't see it when it aired, sadly. I just got into it 4-5 months ago.

I'm a fan of the writing. I aspire to be a writer, so Joss is my inspiration.

I'm not a fan of Buffy/Angel, though. I never really saw it.

I was hooked from Train job, which was the "Pilot" episode because of Fox's *infinite* intellegence (yes Im being sarcastic) waaaaay back when Firefly first started, belive I was 13 then? And I watched every episode and every repet that was on... and then they killed it!! I boycotted Fox for about 4 years after that, my hand to god, boycotted, refused to watch anything on Fox or produced by Fox... Anywho Im 18 now and have converted my dad, we are now working on my mom and my sister... other then that all my retarded friends, and pretty much everybody elles at my school is more into OC and all that go se then Firefly... stupid stupid teenagers...

SHADOWSONG99

Words cannot describe my love for Firefly and Serenity. I'm sure some of us feel the same way. Fanatic is used as a very light term for me, so is avid fanatic.

I want to have a shindig more than anything in the 'verse, but my parents says it
s too much money. I am 15 going on 16 May 23. My parents are right though, it would be thousands of dollars, because I am talking about a real shindig. Casual though. Screenings, raffles, silent auctions, food (strawberries included), possibly a guest appearance. It would be the rental fee that would cost so much. This is not the place to post this though.

I am the youngest in the family, my older brother (22) got me into the 'verse of Joss. I practicaly worship Firefly/Serentity (without the worshiping). Like I said, words cannot decribe my love. My actions will. I wrote a poem about Serenity (the ship itself)

You are Serenity

My love makes you a home to me
You fly me through the 'verse and set me free
I gaze at the stars and truly wonder
Why did Fox drag you under

The ambient stars and warmth of your core
I'll fly with you forevermore
There's so much in the 'verse to see
You're not just a ship to me
You are Serenity

Thanks for this thread - and especially the teenagers who wrote.

I missed Firefly (the series) when it first came out - missed the pilot (aka Fox's version of a pilot - The Train Job) and never bothered to catch up. before I knew it the series was gone. (insert colorful Chinese description of Fox and their executives - and their ancestors and descendents...)

Discovered Firefly last December; have DVDs of the series and Serenity.

I've wanted to watch it with my kids, but felt it was too grown-up. (my son's 11 and hides his eyes at kissing, and daughter's 13 and at that awkward stage...)

Reading the teens thoughts on Firefly - well, another discussion with my wife will ensue. (kids and I watch Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis regularly, btw, and used to watch Enterprise as a family; still need to finish the last few shows though...)

Oh, btw - I'm 51yo, and I'd say Firefly was a darn-near perfect show. Serenity (the movie) was an excellent clean-up-the-loose-ends movie [except for what happens with some characters...] and ended such that a follow-on series would be possible (and in *my* 'verse it'd happen!)

I've watched the series several times now, and each time when I finish there's a longing for more. Amazes me that Fox didn't know what they had - Firefly could've gone on for years with a solid core of folks that'd watch every episode every time it's on. Wouldn't be the top-numbers in viewership, but isn't it better to have a dedicated group that watches every time??? I clearly don't understand... Nor comprehend...

Ah, well - off to parental discussion. Maybe Firefly marathon will ensue...

- Al Weiner -

I'm 15, I've loved Firefly ever since I was 14. Not exactly a large amount of time, but come on, I lived in Brazil when it aired!

Most of my friends (8th-fresh-soph) enjoy the show, and oddly enough, we are all beaners. One of the three white people in Salinas likes it too.

Oddly enough, Inara's little scene and the torture thing did nothing to taint my young, fresh mind. xP Maybe it's because of MTV or something?

So yeah. Firefly is a multi-cultural thing.

She was over the top
And out of control
She ran away
At thirteen years old
But she had her feet on the ground
And nobody pushed her around

I just found this site today - wish I'd seen it before!

I never got to watch Firefly when it was on TV but I saw Serenity and was hooked. Afriend who had seen every episode and had met Joss explained the 'verse to me and I recently bought the series on DVD.

When I started to watch the first episode last week, my 9 year old son got angry that I hadn't included him, so we started the whole thing over. Pretty soon my hubby showed up to watch too. Either my son and I or all three of us watched every episode over the last 5 days then had our finale' with Serenity tonight!

My son loved it all. Yes, explaining the "whore" comments and Inora's "companioning" [can I use that as a verb?] of so many people was a little. . .complicated, but he took my (basic and non-detailed) explanations well. His only comments at the end were, "Why did they have to kill Wash?!?!" and "Why doesn't it keep going?"

He feels as I do - this 'Verse needs to continue!!

I'm 13, and I'm the only one in my family who even likes any scifi. It freaks my mom out, my dad thinks it's absolutely pointless, and my sis...well, she's six, so she's kinda scared.
I love scifi. I also love the whole stargate franchise (except Stargate: Infinity, the worst cartoon ever), Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Dr. Who.
I also watch Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
You'd be surpised at what kid's like.

Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Beware of pretty girls in dance halls and parks who may be spies, as well as bicycles, revolvers, uniforms, arms, dead horses, and men lying on roads -- they are not there accidentally.
So the moral is...be paranoid.

Have a great day!
