since no one in the sifi world can come up with decent shows I was wondering if any of you had any good ideas for fantasy,sifi,western no cop dramas hollywood has been milkin it dry for the past thiry years. I have a few but I wont waste your time.

I've got a whole bunch; most of my stories naturally want to turn into series (I write for character, when short stories [easier to sell] are supposed to be plot-based). All my characters want long-term development.

One (that I've mentioned on another thread) is this medieval-era alien invasion story. Bunch of medieval types (a princess, her handmaiden, a knight, his squire, maybe a random peasant or two) end up on a starship and confronting an alien armada with unknown designs on Earth. There's also this mysterious (River-like) girl who seems to lie at the centre of the aliens' plans. Whole concept is to examine socially-constructed worldviews; how do the past and future humans adapt to each others' wildly different ideas. It's kinda like Farscape, but with hill-folk instead of Crichton. I'm still working on the pilot's plot (getting the medieval characters into the starship), but I can see one huge stumbling block to getting this on TV: budget.

Another one is based on a bizarre merging of Cardcaptor Sakura and Buffy (two shows that should perhaps not be watched back-to-back when exhausted and/or drunk). That and one line in The Mask of Zorro ("Children must never see the things we do"), and something Joss said once about fairy tales. We spend a lot of time protecting children from stuff that we think is dangerous, stuff that we (as grownups) have to deal with. What would happen if a typical child (ten-year-old girl, in a frilly pink dress) was suddenly exposed to these things (things like fear, pain, gore, non-fairy tale love, tragedy, death/sacrifice, knowledge of "Good" and "Evil," moral relativism, constructed reality/mass delusion, light and dark magic, demons, supernatural forces)? I think kids can be a lot stronger than most adults give them credit for. Especially if they have a little help (who dies toward the end, forcing her to stand on her own).

The big problem with this one is that I have no clue how to market it. The lead character is ten years old (which, in the Hollywood mindset, means it's a kids' show), it's a fantasy (which again, in Hollywierd, means kids/teens), but it's an adult-themed story (increasingly so as it goes on and the girl starts to take an active role in her own destiny). It'd work great as animé, but no-one in NorAm is likely willing to try something like this, and I don't speak enough Japanese to sell it over there.

I've also got a few franchise-specific ideas. I'd love beyond words to be able to do a Transformers series, but again, these days Transformers fiction concepts are mostly Japan-only (America comes up with the line-wide gimmicks, concepts, and minor fiction work [techspecs, comics], but Japan does the design and main TV series fiction work).

Yes.

I've teemed up with my two best friends and we're in the process of writing the pilot in the hope of pitching it to the BBC.

It's a tough thing to do as we fit it around working hours and we don't get to see each othe that often - but we're getting there slowly. We're going to pitch it by hook or by crook in September. That's our deadline, otherwise you end up not finishing anything.

We've a final meeting in May before we all go and write our individual episodes. I'm writing the Pilot and the last epsiode and the others are working on the four in between (Here in the UK we only need six episodes for a season).

The best part is the getting together and working out scenes and acts. The worst part is handing your treatment to your co writers and then watching them read in silence....

Oh and in terms of genre. I'd say it falls between fantasy and drama.

Other than that I have lots of personal ideas that I'm slowly working through when I can. I wrote and illustrated a book for my Niece and Nephew about two years ago. It was an A-Z of animals and each animal had there own story that explains the way they look....

I've written a short poem that I'm hoping to animate about a boy and his dead dog and I have a mythology that I've been working on since I was seventeen - that I just keep adding and updating new characters to every year.... and I've a few musical projects that I keep myself busy with too.

I have this idea for a series. Not for TV though. My one exisitng TV idea is a miniseries based on the comic BONE. I don't knwo if there's anyone here who reads it, but it's one of the biggest indie comics around.

I'm more into movies, and I have an idea for like a six part series of movies. It's my STAR WARS really. It's set in the future, and it's kinda like FIREFLY in that it's a blend of genres. But instead of a sci-fi western, it's a sci-fi noir. I love movies like SIN CITY, L.A. CONFIDENTIAL, CHINATOWN, the old Humphrey Bogart movies, THE KILLING and any of those movies fitting into the film noir genre. It's masculine poetry, is what it is. And my film series is a blend of those hard-bioled stories and characters focusing on the intricacies of plot but in a fictional city with colorful villains and death defying stunts. And it's main protagonist is a private investigator named Tracer Bullet. He's got the face of Keifer Sutherland (I imagined the part around him), the attire of Dick Tracey, the brain of Sherlock Holmes, the weapons of Batman and the attitude of a Bogart character.

In a nutshell, it's BATMAN and L.A. CONFIDENTIAL put together.

Its based in ancient China ( 1300 or 1400 some where in that period)

Its based on 12 characters that are on a journey to kill one man, a blood thirsty warrior that's taking revenge of her mudered lover, man thats looking for his child that was sold into slavery , a girl and her father or supposedly her father.
Its in the style of CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON , the flying in the air thing and camra lense ,writing in the style of some anime and CTHD.
Another is a scifi thats based in a whore house, 1000 years later in a big city the main character is named mesu, she is a request companion that dresses and acts the way the client wants.
The set is like fith element mixed with jack and daxter 3 and beyond good and evil.

If you're asking if Leelu777 is really sanmi77 with a new name, then the evidence points to yes. Leelu signed onto this site very soon after sanmi signed off for the last time, and of course, there's the writing similiarities, but, alas, there's also the complete impatience and a bit of rudeness...all evidence pointing to leelu as sanmi. I ignored sanmi the last time, but if this keeps up...well, I'm just gonna type about it.

I mean, I was all for someone who liked the site so much, and thought they had gotten off on the wrong foot, so they changed their name and came back. Speaks to wanting to be accepted. But, to come back and start doing the same stuff all over again...Makes no kind of damn sense to me.

It really is quite sad. Why someone, anyone would deliberately disrupt the natural subtle competitive harmony of this site. It is clear that he/she would be welcome here if his/her attitude would change.
