wow. that's a little pessimistic. Anywho, you're allowed to have your views. But my personal preference is to look on the optomistic side. Saw 2 is a sequel in a relatively successful franchise. Let's not forget that the original saw made around 15 mil opening week, and 55 mil overall domestically. It really found it's audience on DVD, and also, it had Cary Elwes in it, and some people recognize the name. But yes, i realize it wasn't made for much. Even so, Think how Serenity 2 would do if it found as good an audience boost on DVD. I'm gonna wait until the DVD to do a judging like that.
Another good example is the Transporter franchise. It wasn't a breakout hit, but it got a sequel nonetheless, and the first was a bit more than 1.2 mil to make. Doom on the other hand dropped 72.7% from 15.5 to 4.1 mil from first to second weekend, WITH big name stars and a bigger budget and a video game fan base. Serenity made more than that on it's second week. 47% drop. Long story (sorry) short, my opinion is that Serenity still has a decent chance of a sequel.
Better than Doom, anyway.

A 100 million budget would be cool, though.

I'm babbling like a moonbrain.

How the hell do they know what other people are thinking... 50 people especially. But look at the numbers: $24 Million, and not even $40 Million worldwide. And they say there will be a sequel, or a tv series, or whatever the hell people think is able to be produced after a movie just bombed at the box office. Look at "Saw II", "Saw II" cost $4 Million to make and has already grossed $30 Million in the US alone. Now that's what it takes to get a sequel going, a strong opening. Not some sad $10 Million in the first weekend. And they say, well compared to the per-theater gross, it did rather well, but not really, not at all. "Serenity" earned about $4160 per screen, and all that after "lots" of attention, or somewhat too little I say. And compared to the first "Saw" movie with little favor prior to the film ended up grossing over $18 Million in its first weekend alone, with $7895 per screen, at a production budget of $1,200,000 (that's right $1.2 Million). And I got my info from the-numbers.com so I ain't making this stuff up.

Well, We will not know anything instantly, and many have pointed out that Joss has a few projects to get out the way before the sequal could be filmed anyways, so Just be patient adn stop, getting us rabid fans upset. All the negatvity sucks, so... don't.

Fascinating story. Did you think about adapting it to the stage?

An adaptation to this would probably do a helluva lot better then "Serenity".

Actually I never knew about Firefly until Serenity came out. I didn't knew about Serenity if a fanfic writer whose work I follow didn't mention and recommend it. So I took my cinema-going pals who had no clue what Firefly was to watch Serenity and enjoyed it. We did a bit of research before we go, of course, so we expected the TV-serial feel of the movie. We're from outside US, btw. In another hemisphere, in fact.

Now I'm a Firefly fan, so are my cinema-going pals which is how I ended up here and why some of my friends are getting the DVD boxset. We're thinking of watching it again the second time now that we know more of the background.

Admittedly we're sci-fi fans in the first place, so it's not a hard work for us to enjoy Serenity. Sadly the promotion for this movie is virtually non-existent in our country and I've just found out a couple of days ago that this serial used to run in our TV network at 00.40am. Programs running after 10.30pm don't get advertised much, if at all *sigh* I'm lamenting on missed chances now.

For what it's worth I hope they'll be a sequel :/
