BLACKOUTNIGHTS

It's too bad DVR was only in its fledgeling stages while Firefly was being broadcast. If you've got a favorite television show, you probably want to keep this in mind...

"Entertainment President Kevin Reilly said Monday that certain programs with low ratings under Nielsen Media Research's traditional measurement can be renewed if they have strong numbers among viewers who watch those shows on their digital video recorders. One Fox show that returns this fall, the Joss Whedon drama "Dollhouse," fit this pattern, Reilly said during a conference call with reporters. "The DVR numbers are a marker that audiences want to watch something," he explained, adding that "Dollhouse" got progressively better DVR ratings each week."

Gee, I wonder why this would be the case?
Who watches goram TV live?
All them dang adds and such like!
I don't know what "free" TV is like in the States, but here in Australia, it's goasa reality shows and cop shows with sick storylines.
I was surprised we got "Castle" here!
We have yet to see Season 2 of "Terminator, The Sarah Connor Chronicles" or Season 5 of "Stargate Atlantis".
The network that "has" Stargate Atlantis, repeated season 3 before they aired season 4!!!
We have yet to see "Dollhouse" or "Fringe" here, and a couple of the major DVD retailers have already announced the release dates for the DVD's and BlueRay's!!!
If I want to watch the shows my online friends are talking about I would have to watch them illegally online, not that I would of course.

I know!
I cried when I found out the Summer Glau hour wasn't coming back, ooops, I meant, Terminator, The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

"You might want to put those back in the holster."

sigh...
I have season 1 on DVD, I'm going to get it on blueray, see if I can enhance ANY of the reflections in THAT scene.
I'll keep you posted!

Makes me wonder where they're getting DVR numbers from. Do the subscriptions based DVRs keep track of what you're recording? Seems kinda privacy invadish to me.

I may be wrong, but I think that the only ones that are being counted are DVRs in Nielsen family homes. I just have a generic Scientific Atlanta dvr provided by my cable company, and that company is just in Texas and not even in all of the state. I don't think they have the capability or the desire to report to the networks on what shows their customers record.

I think you might be surprised by the capabilities of the Scientific Atlanta DVR, EC.

I figure if Time Warner can offer me the capability of Pay-per-view on my DVR, and I can press a couple buttons and start watching a new release (or porn - not that I'd ever do that, of course...) movie on my DVR pretty much instantly, AND THEN that same movie shows up on my printed bill, I've got a feeling they have SOME idea what I'm watching, and when, and what I'm recording, and when.

They know exactly what you watch and when...I know a person who works in that world. You'd be surprised 'how' much they know. Just like the grocery stores know what you will buy, the loyalty cards are the best source of customer info they've used in years. Then you throw in all your personel(sp) info from MYSPACE and FACEBOOK,...theres very little they don't know.

Now I am learning about scary.

I'm a Nielsen family this week and they ask us to record what we watch on VCR/DVD/DVR as well as what we're watching on TV.

Yes, I noted that I watched Castle and Burn Notice! Every little bit helps, I hope.

It constantly and continually pisses me off that F*>< continues to treat FF and it’s fans as if they are nonexistent. I have not and will not watch another program on that channel unless they own up to the fact that they ruined Joss’ chances for making the short run tv series a success. I mean look at the facts. They ran the show as they wanted, whenever they wanted and blamed low viewer numbers on it’s demise.

Shame on thee I say…..blaming a good and potentially successful tv series on your own misjudgments and mistakes. Ball up and be a man ( or woman, Just take responsibility) Course they will never admit to being wrong………… it’s the price the browncoats have to pay. So what else is new in life. Leadership refusing to lead.

Bring FF back….or sell the rights at a decent price you wimps!! Dvr numbers of DH are good? I would not know! I do wish Joss all the luck with his new show and I am glad for the folks that enjoy the program but I, I choose not to watch. F*>< executives are the biggest wusses I’ve ever come across. Even a twelve year old will abmit when they are totally wrong. Had F*>< continued with FF it would likely be #2 or #3 in their programming, but yet is wasn’t to be.

So by all means, use your dvrs my browncoat friends. There could have been a time when Firefly would have been the show you were recording for later playback…..

If Fox did one day apologize, would that make you feel better? Doesn't matter to me. I wasn't watching Firefly back in 2002, and if it had run for 3 years I likely would not have ever seen it. There is something to be said for the cult status that FF has acheived by the nature of its' colorful and amazing history. The fact that thousands of Browncoats have been able to meet the BDH's over the years at sci-fi cons is pretty amazing. That is quite rare in showbiz. Usually the actors at these things are there for shows they did 20 or 30 years ago. I'm damn grateful to have gotten what we got all the way around.

I’m not looking for an apology from F*><. What good would that do? Sorry We @#%$ up!

Would be nice if they sold the rights to someone who cared about the show. Just to get it out of their greedy little hands would make me happy. Also I think you underrate our BDHs. Had the show continued on to today I do feel that Nathan, Adams, Alan, Summer, Jewel and all the others including Joss would still be attending conventions and would still be mobbed by fans. A true showing of their personal integrity.

Btw I didn’t see FF when it originally aired either. So I can add myself to the list of “Johnny come latelies”. I do believe that I would have found the verse before long though….had it continued.
