I was so glad to see Gina Torres and Adam Baldwin together, voicing Decepticons in Transformers Prime.

It has gotten me thinking about Firefly alumni, and their current projects... and also wishing for Firefly Season 2. This will relate to the 'verse in a minute, I promise.

So here's the premise:

Firefly rights have expired from Fox. Mutant Enemy teams up with UCP (producers of good cable TV shows like Royal Pains, In Plain Sight, Psych, White Collar, and others...) to put Firefly back on TV, on Cable, with the original cast, and crew, writers, etc... Sci-Fi, USA, somewhere.

How does the original Firefly cast bring their new friends from their Alumni series, back into the Firefly 'Verse as recurring guest stars, or new full cast members?

I had some ideas about this this morning.

And let's start with Malcolm Reynolds. (Nathan Fillion bringing Castle cast members over to Firefly)

[img][/img]
Stana Katic as Kathryn Beck. A tough sheriff on a colony planet. An old flame that knew Malcolm Reynolds before the war, from Shadow, when Mal grew up on the ranch. He was a lot more happy-go-lucky and fun then. She re-encounters Mal after the events of BDM, and finds him a changed man after many years. Mal left for the war just as they were getting romantically interested in each other, and she never heard from him directly again until now.

She is a law officer, but is scarred by her own tragedy, even when Mal knew her before. She isn't "by the book" and isn't even that strict on small stuff, as long as she takes down the people doing really big, bad things. She has no love for people looking over her shoulder, so likes it more on the fringe than in the core, where the Alliance is entirely too obtrusive, but she isn't the independent idealist that Mal an Zoe are. She kept her head down into her own issues while others fought the war. Her familiarity with Mal's previous life are enough to spark her interest again, and overlook some of his activities, since he isn't trying to hurt good folk, and isn't a twisted psychopath.

She also brings along some deputies from the old days, too. (Huertas and Dever, playing tweaked versions of their roles as Esposito and Ryan from Castle) comprising Mal Reynolds old gang from home, before the war.

There could be cameos as flashbacks by Susan Sullivan as Malcolm Reynold's mother, as she also plays Richard Castle's mother.

Molly O'Quinn should be integrated, too... but I am not sure how yet. Mal wouldn't have a daughter of that age, unless he had a fling during the war, and didn't know about the resulting child. Our Daughter Reynolds would be a bit too much, after Our Mrs. Reynolds... how many relatives can Mal plausibly be surprised with? But perhaps Molly O'Quinn could play some attached role to Yo/Saff/Bridge. The redhead younger sister from Yo/Saff/Bridge's unwelcome and escaped past? A good, upright, and moral girl, opposite of Yo/Saff/Bridge's un-trustworthy criminal character?

I think this premise would make TERRIBLE firefly,
but would be a really fun, dream-sequence episode of Castle.
And since Castle is the more successful series,
that makes it the more likely scenario to actually happen.

Next... Jayne Cobb vs. the grateful couple.

Jayne Cobb's previous dealings crossed paths with some people who come back into the events in the life of the crew of Serenity.

Charles (chuck) his wife Sarah Bartholomew (perhaps their friend Grimes) Inadvertently saved by Jayne Cobb during a raid. Jayne hadn't meant to go out of his way to save anyone, it just happened that way... now this guy and his wife think they owe Jayne Cobb a debt. (how does this stuff keep happening to Jayne of all people? First the Higgins Moon mudders, and now these people? Really...)

They are good and simple enough people... regular, smart middle class Persephone citizens, but something has happened, and they need off-the-books help, and the only one they knew of was Jayne Cobb, and now his friends on the crew of Serenity.

WOW! Good thread!

Ok, I’ll play….maybe Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levy) in the part of the fan-fic writer ebs Ip roll. Comic relief if you will. don’t think he’d be the new pilot though. Think that job would fall to someone else. Fact is I don’t see River being Serenity’s pilot for long either, post BDM. She may start out as such, but I don’t see her being able to take orders from Mal very long. I see River Tam (Summer Glau now 30) as being her own woman. Apart from Serenity, she can command and drive a crew of her own.

Not totally unique in television, but I see two Fireflies of the old Joss Whedon series as roaming the Verse. One Serenity, the other the Albatross. Might be fun…..

Other characters I’d like to see make appearances on “ The Continuing Adventures of Firefly”, are Damien Lewis (BOB & Homeland w/Morena), the return of Christina Hendricks (who also played in LIFE w/Damien Lewis), Mark Shepard as Badger, Yvonne Strahovski as maybe the pilot of the Albatross, Joshua Gomez as maybe “the midget that loved fire” and Sarah Lancaster as Serenity’s new pilot, who also causes friction between Inara and Mal.

Just some quick ideas……..BPZ

Here is a modification.

Re-integration of Alan Tudyk, Ron Glass, and David Krumholz

Ceiran "Crash" Washburne. Also known as "Crash-burn"
Hoban's estranged twin brother. (he kept the mustache after Wash shaved his off for Zoe.)

If Wash was a soaring leaf on the wind, Crash sinks like a stone. Not technical, and 'washed' out of flight school, where his brother excelled.

He took over Wash's fry-cook opportunity, and found his calling. He has liked to cook ever since, although he is somewhat of a drifter from job to job. Mostly good at comic relief, though. He has no idea how his brother married Zoe, as he is just plain afraid of her. He is a little more crass, ever so slightly darker, and maybe slightly cooler and a bit more of a player with women than Wash was. The women than can't kill him with a pinky.

But he has a bit more of a temper. Has been known to threaten to make entrails into "extrails." He identifies a bit more with Jayne Cobb right off the bat.

The copy of Book.
In the previous life of Derrial Book, Blue Sun/Alliance government agents similar to those who experimented at River Tam, had a separate project to create more operatives than they currently had. Through cloning.

When Derrial was found by his superiors to be dis-engaged, and seeming to want out of that life, they took a DNA sample under the guise of a random physical fitness and health evaluation. They secretly cloned him, without his knowledge. After the Operative ordered the massacre on Haven, prior to the Miranda incident being revealed, the clean-up/cover-up showed evidence of Book's death, as well as the grave site along side Hoban Washburne, and Mr. Universe.

The clone of Derrial Book is still in the life, and has full memories of Derrial's life up to the point of the brain scan taken at the same time as the DNA sample was, from there, their lives diverged, and the clone stayed, while Derrial retreated into the Abbey.

The clone operative was not supposed to come into contact with the crew of Serenity, who knew of the original Derrial Book's death, and who could blow his cover as a clone. Yet it happens to volatile results... and the revelation of Book's previous life.

New smuggler brothers.
With the deaths of most of Malcolm Reynolds business contacts... some new smuggler middlemen and arrangers have come up to fill the vacuum.
Including three brothers who argue more with each other than they negotiate. (a replacement for Fanti and Mingo)
Played by David Krumholz, Rob Morrow (plays his brother on Numb3rs), and Tom Cavanaugh. They look like they could be brothers in real life.

You all forgot one: Simon decides that he'd like to play for the other team when they pick up a bunch of female entertainers and that he finds Jayne very attractive all of a sudden...

These all would make popular fanfics, some of which I'd read and some of which I wouldn't, but either way you'd get plenty of readers. The great thing about fanfic is that it isn't cannon so people can do whatever they want without consequences. People can read them or not, as they please. I don't really like new cannon if its going to be a damper on how I feel about Firefly, I can't afford that in my life. But fanfic is all good because it can be whatever you want it to be and there are no lasting ramifications to it.
