I might like to talk about Bible Thumper & Armageddon in a topic like "How Crazy is the GOP?"

Instead, before I came here today, I read about Robert Mueller's work.
He is investigating & filing charges against Trump political associates.

Been a-political all my life, so it's hard to understand.

Instead of charity, how about FAIRNESS?

There's a reason why my signature is about pity, which would be no more if the system wasn't rigged to make so many people desperately poor and so very few unimaginably wealthy.

So instead of arguing for "charity", how about arguing for fairness? (I think I know the answer to that.)

Well Oonj, think of it this way.....it's a Law & Order episode where the culprits are pulling a heist while feigning interest in politics.

Always follow the money; that and power affecting people's lives seems to be the rule of the day. These are criminals nonetheless, they are up to no good no matter what collar they wear.

Hope that simplifies things for you.

Then the line would have said "I'll show you Trump's idea of fairness and charity" which would have negated confusion and disagreement from false interjection. But Second's idea of fairness and balance is to try to have Republicans represented by despicable lifelong Libtard Democrats of New York City.

No!

I'm all for interpreting the news of the day and commentary so as to raise awareness.
But when a so-called news outlet regurgitates the news and leaves out whole chunks to change the context of the news item, well then I don't take that news outlet and commentary seriously - especially when the byline is a "fake" name. Now, you might call it news, but not me.

To be honest, I got a kick out of seeing Tyler Durden's name being used, but I would have had more respect for the "reporting" had there been proper attribution and proper identification of the critique or commentary regarding the instant article.

It's amazing SHINYGOODGUY just how stupid some here are isn't it? Great job explaining why zerohedge is nothing but fake news. Still, when someone quotes the site it is a good indicator they are trolling. It's like they are pinning a sign on themselves; I'm a troll, and oh by the way, stupid as well because you now know I am going to lie and manipulate the truth to incite bad feels within you.

Yep SHINY, they're pretty dumb.

When I post something stupid, I'm not trolling; I'm just

My friend in PR knows all this stuff. I wish he'd come

Shiny, why'd we even put a VA hospital in Puerto Rico?
It is because we have so many veterans there?

Thank you, THGRRI,
I didn't mean that I'm really stupid. I'm smart about some things,
like math & drawing. I'm not selfish & can't help caring about what's
fair. A society of mutual respect, share & share alike. I understand
about right & wrong at an inter-personal level.

But it turns out in RWED, most folks here post a lot about politics,
power, the law. About what's right or wrong with our country. And
who are the players running our country. Some can share intimate
political details going over decades, with dozens of players that I
never heard of. It's as a blur across my vision. For me, any large
serving of politics is data overload. My brain says, "WhaT?!" ...
"O, nevermind."

An exception is PotUS, Donald Trump. Like SGG, I can't believe
the republicans would nominate him & the people would vote for
him. That seems nuts to me.

But when a thread comes up with a good topic sans politics, I'll
probably take an interest.

That's a good question Oonj, I suppose that could be the reason. Puerto Rican men have been serving in the Armed Forces since they became U.S. citizens, I believe it was 1917, just in time for WWI. I'll look into it and see what I could find.

Those are your words ... you assume you know what the 'right' news is supposed to be. You already know what needs to be in the news, what can be left out. Instead of reading from a variety of sources to get the fullest picture and try to make some sense out of it, you trim what you're willing to consider.

Because, apparently, you already know the news.

You know something Oonj, I like when folk own up to not knowing something. I appreciate how you approach your comments and responses here. You're right, not many who will admit it.

There were times when I would forget that, so thanks for giving me a nudge and a point in the right direction. That goes for you too Thgrri. Now I won't go as far as calling someone a troll (well, it is fun to unleash the hounds from time to time), but my general rule of thumb is to try and treat others with a modicum of respect (that is, of course, until they cross the line).

Anywho, I read and watch the news. Then I come here and entertain myself by reading some of the posts here. It can be a real eye-opening experience. But the one thing I can't abide is...well, I'll stop here. Gentlemen, keep on trucking!

Alphabet’s Eric Schmidt On Fake News, Russia, And “Information Warfare”

a-and-information-warfare

“One of the things I did not understand,” says Schmidt, “was that these systems can be used to manipulate public opinion in ways that are quite inconsistent with what we think of as democracy.”

“We did not understand the extent to which governments – essentially what the Russians did – would use hacking to control the information space. It was not something we anticipated strongly enough,” Schmidt said. “I worry that the Russians in 2020 will have a lot more powerful tools.”

Schmidt adds that Alphabet has “gotten very interested in misinformation, how misinformation works, and how it manipulates people.”

Schmidt and Cohen say one of their biggest concerns going forward is the erosion of truth. That is, as agents of disinformation become more adept at spreading propaganda, there’s the potential that even the tech- and media-savvy will find it increasingly difficult to differentiate between what’s real and what’s fake.

“Just using the Russians as an example – although plenty of other governments can do this – how would you feel if that stuff gets stronger? Would you be worried about it?”

This was the Google exec, right?
Since he spent his career engineering disinformation, now he is amazed that others can do it also.
You also missed the part where he speculates that maybe, just possibly, it could be that there are some fake Google accounts - while the real world has known about bots for something like a decade or more. Great example of leadership in technology - be clueless about your realm.

I have to believe maybe as many as one in 30 google accounts is fake. I created one to join this site. I don't do anything else with it, but all the same it's fake.

Loathe as I am to defend Billy-boy Clinton, politicized criminal investigations are nothing new, à la Ken Starr. Pretending like Trump was talking about some horrific novelty ignores history.

It is much like separation of Church and State, the lines are constantly being blurred by the conservatives and alt-right of the country.

Quote:

The first amendment to the US Constitution states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"

And yet, these assholes are circumventing the established, sacred rules of freedom set forth in the Constitution. WTF is going on. I thought Americans respected the document that made our country great. Hell, that made our country.

There's supposed to be separation between the DOJ and FBI and the president. Otherwise we have a DICTATORSHIP. He can order to jail those who don't agree with him, and that isn't FAKE.

As I recall, most of the Puerto Ricans I saw in the Corps were female. But I wasn't really the type to classify much, so there could have been a ton of guys as well.
I noticed more Canadians in the Marines compared to other branches, and the Philippinos went the Navy way.

The Puerto Ricans that I have met over the years served in the Army, although I did meet 2 Marines recently. One guy is a mean old SOB, a hard Republican and racist as all get-out, especially against Black Cubans. The other is a real Jarhead, but a decent enough fellow. He's about 6' 3" and about 240 lbs. and he doesn't look Hispanic, at all. I thought he was white.

I would think that the Bush family would have a table setting for Trump at the next family picnic. Stands to reason since he was so gracious to Jeb during the 2016 Campaign season.

"Remember to drink from the chalice with a picture of a palace." Poppa Bush was heard saying, "you dumb muthafucker" he muttered.

Ahhh, such goings on.

I was just wondering. You claim to be a-political (one word, by the way - apolitical) but you yourself state you try to steer clear of politics in other posts you've made. So posting comments here is like running out into the middle of traffic on the "political expressway" - so, as far as I see, you are political. I agree. This country is being led by the nose to a disastrous stretch of anti-democratic existence. Trump and company are slowly dismantling of democracy and both we, the people and Congress are standing there watching from the sidelines.

We gotta mobilize and get these fuckers off their collective asses and do something before it's too late. While we're busy watching what the left hand is doing, the Trump administration (and TPTB) are slowly defusing what we have become complacent with all these many years with the right hand, namely our way of life here in America. Our institutions are being demolished right before our eyes and that, along with us regular Joes, is the fabric of what makes us the United States. We are vulnerable right this minute, but it's not too late yet. We were able to reject the total destruction of Obamacare, which is key for affordable care for millions across this country; and now we must do the same for this proposed new Tax Bill.

Also, take a look at what Trump is doing to destroy the judicial system. He's handpicking unqualified dolts to lifetime seats in the federal system. Don't be fooled, write, tweet, email and call your Congress member and all representatives. We must demand impeachment now.
