Do you have an Internet connection? It's been a tradition and general courtesy around here (what's left of that) to provide links for the source of such profound statements.
If your statement is factual (and I have no reason to believe it isn't) that just tells you a lot about the average "I just don't give a sh*t" citizen/non-voter in this country.

I'm assuming it's this article here: https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/cnn-gets-served-failing-network-lose
s-to-food-network-in-latest-ratings
/

Quote:

According to the numbers compiled by Nielsen Media Research, CNN’s prime-time programming attracted an average viewership of 758,000 from June 18-24 for the 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. (Eastern) time period.

Among cable news networks, that number is good for third — which doesn’t sound too bad until you remember there are only three cable news networks.

And the difference between the three wasn’t even close. Fox News Channel was tops among all cable channels with an average of just over 2 million prime-time viewers for the week. MSNBC was in second with 1.49 million.

More like 1/3rd than 1/4.

How does this tell us "a lot about the average "I just don't give a sh*t" citizen/non-voter in this country"?

I'd argue that it only tells us that the average citizen doesn't give a shit. Which is something I've been saying here for well over a year.

I think the only information that can be inferred here other than the fact that an overwhelming majority of the people don't give a shit, is that of those that do, a majority would rather get their "news" from right wing shills than left wing shills.

CNN just barely edges out the number of transgender people in America in average prime time viewership.

https://www.theodysseyonline.com/marginalized-transgender-community

Quote:

In August 2015, the estimated number of transgender individuals in the United States was above 700,000, but almost 75 percent of them claimed to hide their gender or transition to avoid discrimination.

I hope that puts things into a little perspective for everyone here.

The guestimated percentage of transgendered people (assuming only 300 million people in the country) is around 0.23%.

The percentage of average people who watch CNN in prime time is around 0.25%

The percentage of average people who watch FOX news in prime time is around 0.66%

Hell... y'all should probably apply for minority status. I think you have a case.

I had thought FNC still had about 3.7 million - but that may have been one show. And I thought CNN dropped below 1 million for the new week data. Good that you found the actual numbers, I hate generalizing with numbers.

I just realized something. With Prime Time viewership at 758,000 this means one out of every 433 Americans is stupid enough to be watching the CNN feed of Fake News.

So essentially, if you find yourself watching CNN, then you can rest assured that you are more stupid than the next 432 people you bump into, on average with a statistically balanced sampling.
And that you would need to find a random grouping of 867 Americans to be reasonably confident that you are smarter than at least one of those people.

Of course, most of those 758,000 are probably concentrated in New York.

Color me not surprised that this is one of those most stupid out of every 433 people. Assuming this one is American.

See my echo chamber statement above.

Quote:

They found that someone who watched only Fox News would be expected to answer 1.04 domestic questions correctly compared to 1.22 for those who watched no news at all. Those watching only "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" answered 1.42 questions correctly and people who only listened to NPR or only watched Sunday morning political talk shows answered 1.51 questions correctly.

What did I say the other day, and many other times in the past about The Daily Show and The Onion being a better source of news than the MSM?

Do you know what "context" means? It does have 2 syllables, so maybe not.

The first thing to realize is that every news medium has its own audience demographics. It's no secret to advertisers that the average Fox News viewer has less formal education and income than the average New York Times reader.

The Times is urban and urbane; Fox is small-town/suburban and populist. Fox competes directly against hundreds of other cable channels and has established a specialized niche in its media ecology. Fox trades in stories about the venality of big government, liberal overreach and little-guy heroes of the heartland. A large share of Fox stories deftly push emotional buttons (lest the viewer push the buttons on his or her remote…)

Which part?
Decent programming like FNC costs money for the viewer, it is always a premium Channel on Cable. Which is another reason I don't bother with pay TV. CNN has always been free, and now they can't give it away.
The relatives I visit have gobs of Channels, but if FNC is in their package, they won't ever watch it.

I probably found some FCN in hotels around winter of 15/16. But by the time my on-site work wrapped for the day, it would have been non-Prime Time.

I think the point of the article is, as I stated above, that you'd be just as equipped to answer the questions in that survey from watching reruns of Mama's family as you would any of the news outlets on either side.

It's a sad thing, really, that out of 5 questions about domestic and 5 questions about international things, even avid viewers of the news can't come close to answering 2 of them on average in either category.

RF posted that article because of the negative title it had about Fox News viewers without actually reading anything inside of it.

There's nothing to celebrate about your news of choice if you have a .008% improvement in your overall ability to answer questions that you would have answered if you didn't watch it at all. This is why RF had lost the argument from the beginning.

I actually love the title of that article, because it gets people to read things they don't want to know about themselves (or it least it gets them to link it for smarter people to decipher it and point those sad truths out to them).

This should all probably be taken with a grain of salt though.

If you read the very last paragraph, it states the following:

Quote:

It is a follow-up to a 2011 survey of 612 New Jerseyans that found, among other things, that those who watched Fox News were 18 points less likely to know that Egyptians overthrew their government than those who watch no news at all.

I don't think that anybody, pretty much anywhere, would be comfortable with how up until that point the term "people" is constantly thrown around as if to suggest these results reflect "all people in the U.S.", when you're talking about two surveys that were given to only "New Jerseyans" right in the middle of the height of popularity of the show "Jersey Shore".

Good site:

CNN - LEFT BIAS

These media sources are moderately to strongly biased toward liberal causes through story selection and/or political affiliation. They may utilize strong loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes), publish misleading reports and omit reporting of information that may damage liberal causes. Some sources in this category may be untrustworthy.

Factual Reporting: MIXED

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/cnn/

MSNBC - LEFT BIAS

These media sources are moderately to strongly biased toward liberal causes through story selection and/or political affiliation. They may utilize strong loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes), publish misleading reports and omit reporting of information that may damage liberal causes. Some sources in this category may be untrustworthy. See all Left Bias sources.

Factual Reporting: MIXED

VOX - LEFT BIAS

These media sources are moderately to strongly biased toward liberal causes through story selection and/or political affiliation. They may utilize strong loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes), publish misleading reports and omit reporting of information that may damage liberal causes. Some sources in this category may be untrustworthy.

Factual Reporting: HIGH

Mother Jones - LEFT BIAS

These media sources are moderately to strongly biased toward liberal causes through story selection and/or political affiliation. They may utilize strong loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes), publish misleading reports and omit reporting of information that may damage liberal causes. Some sources in this category may be untrustworthy.

Factual Reporting: HIGH

I do find it quite funny that while all of them are rated as "publishing misleading reports and omit reporting of information that may damage liberal causes" and "some sources in this category may be untrustworthy", somehow Vox and Mother Jones get a "Factual Reporting" rating of "high" while CNN and MSNBC get "mixed".

lol

Maybe this site should tell you guys something?

Perhaps you should branch out and consume news from sources that aren't only telling you what you want to hear.

You're welcome! You're like a lot of "people" that think because there are 2 parties they are the same just with different lies. Hardly.

butbutbutbut the Left clearly said that The Left was right!!
That must mean it is true! The Left would never ever lie, they said they don't.
In unrelated news, if The Left posted it on the interwebs, then we all know it must be true. Everything on the interwebs is always true. google it.

Apparently last night CNN garnered more than 1,000,000 viewers briefly. 1,440,000.

And FNC only peaked over 2,918,000.
