Oh. More personal insults. Big surprise.

And about lie detector tests...

But by all means... please allow this farce to continue. I'm entertained.

Modern polygraf tests are 99.6% accurate.

They shoud get Dan Ribakof (the guy hoo duz the tests for Steve Wilcos) on the case.

No they aren't.

Quote:

"Proponents will say the test is about 90 percent accurate. Critics will say it's about 70 percent accurate," said Frank Horvath of the American Polygraph Association. "Many people refer to polygraph tests as lie detector tests, and that's a bit of a misnomer.

"There is no test that can detect lies. … The process in which the questions are asked and the sequence of the questions may affect how a person reacts," Horvath said. "Since the process is not perfect, that could lead to the possibility of error, and that's why there's problems when trying to get them in the courts."

I give everything 50/50. Always.

From there I take into consideration the facts surrounding something. This reeks of a political hit job, especially since it came up right before he was going to be sworn in, and only weeks before the mid-term elections.

The likelyhood that this could ever be proven or disproven before the election is almost 0%.

The fact that you are 100% convinced that it happened I find laughable, but not at all surprising.

If I were Trump, I would put out a tweet this morning recinding Kavanaugh's offer and telling the world what his new pick is. Kavanaugh is already ruined, just by the accusation. No sense wasting another single second on him now.

Professor Anita F. Hill testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on the confirmation of Judge Clarence Thomas to be associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court on Oct. 11, 1991 in Washington, D.C.

Anita Hill’s truthfulness was brutally questioned. Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., accused her of “flat-out perjury.” So was her sanity. I recall a fevered phone call from a White House adviser peddling the notion that Hill suffered from “erotomania,” a psychiatric disorder involving romantic delusions. So was her character. “A little bit nutty and a little bit slutty,” was the contemptuous assessment of David Brock.

Most fundamentally, the all-male panel of senators grilling the Oklahoma law professor about her sexual-harassment allegations against then-Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas, demonstrated repeatedly, floridly, how much they just didn’t get it.

They preened about taking such conduct oh so seriously, then failed, time after time, to demonstrate any grasp of real-world workplace power imbalances.

And here we go again, with Christine Blasey Ford and Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, and the unavoidable question: In 27 years, has nothing changed? The temptation will be to lament the persistence of cluelessness. And, yes, the evidence piles up daily, dumb remark after dumb remark, to support that depressing assessment.

In 1991, it did not seem especially abnormal that no women served on the panel grilling Hill. Today, four of 10 Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee are women, and the fact that there are no women among the 11 Republican members is causing them exquisite embarrassment. Lawmakers of both parties fear the power of #MeToo. The growing gender gap has Republicans scared.

When the allegations against Kavanaugh first surfaced, the immediate, smart strategic approach encapsulated by White House adviser Kellyanne Conway: that his accuser, as yet unnamed, “should not be insulted and she should not be ignored.” Good advice, except that President Trump can only restrain himself for so long. Five days, to be precise.

It certainly has been slanted that way by those who feel that Kavanaugh is the best qualified. But what evidence of a "hit job" political or otherwise, can you present other than blind cronism, loyalist rhetoric.

Quote:

The likelyhood that this could ever be proven or disproven before the election is almost 0%.

The odds of that very thing happening would be greatly improved were the accusations to be investigated. It may be proven, once and for all that she
was "mistaken" or, at the very least, that there just wasn't enough evidence
to prove her case. At present, we simply don't know and it would forever
cloud his nomination and forced election.

Now I say forced election because all aspects of Kavanaugh's selection/nomination has been rush through at breakneck speed and questionable
handling of documents revealing his thinking on various highly important
issues. Throw into the mix his rather peculiar responses to direct questions that harbored on avoidance, and you have deep seeded queasiness in the pit of
your stomach that connotes you're being lied to, or, at the very least, that the subject has something to hide.

I might sound to you that I know something factual. That I am privy to information that the rest of the world, and in particular, the Judiciary Committee, does not. No, I do not have anything of the sort. What I do have is a gut feeling based upon his testimony during the JC interviews last week. I sat there glued to my TV in amazement as to how truly slithery Kavanaugh's
verbiage was as he carefully crafted non-answer answers; but, especially with
Kamala Harris, how she equally as clever played the 'cat and mouse' game in
her questioning of Kavanaugh. It was quite something as they danced back and forth, and on more than one occasion, caught him off guard and he exhibited
a nervous twitch in making his move. She was clearly sweating him, as the kids say nowadays.

I repeat, I have no hard evidence. Do you? The only factual piece of evidence that signals to me that the GOP and Kavanaugh were trying hard to hide something of significance, is the document hide and seek gambit that Chair Grassley played right before the interview was to begin. Several hundred thousand documents depicting his views during his tenure with the Bush Administration, and the email that described, in some detail, his involvement
in stolen documents from the DNC, which he claimed he knew nothing about.
A well-placed "spy" within the democratic offices intercepted the above-mentioned documents and turned them over to Kavanaugh, this was revealed by
a person within the democratic party that had knowledge of the theft. I do
not remember the women's name, but she did state, on record, that this took
place. Grassley stated that his past dealings, while chief of staff with the Bush Administration, has no bearing on his current views on the issues
surrounding case law.

He never stated that he absolutely did not have access to these documents; he merely claims that he doesn't recall. That is not a denial, just a "I can't
remember." Very convenient, and very slippery. How can anyone trust a judge
that does not give a straight answer to a direct question?

So what we are left with are statements of probability. Who do you trust? Who's story seems credible. He's a judge, already appointed to a Federal position. All we know about her is that she's a professor, a teacher with a
doctorate. He was chosen by Trump to ascend to the highest legal position
in the land. Right there, that gives me pause. Sure, I think Trump is a scumbag, but that's beside the point. Being nominated to the highest court in
the land is a huge deal, something that should not be taken lightly, nor rushed through. Forget the fact that McConnell blocked Obama's pick under questionable reasons, credible or not, but concentrate on the enormous
importance of the lifetime position and that the consideration must be equally
as important.

The "retirement" of Kennedy was most definitely orchestrated by Trump to ensure that 1- the GOP would get a ultra-conservative in SCOTUS, and
2- that he would get a justice that would heavily support Trump's notion
that he should not be subject to the Rule of Law.

Of course, none of what I stated here will convince you that:
1- allegations are not proof, but must be properly investigated because of
the seriousness and significance of the position
2- that this is NOT a criminal trial
3- that Kavanaugh himself has NOT called for a full investigation to clear his name (to me that is key). The FBI are specifically trained to investigate such matters, plus it is a crime to lie to an FBI agent, so that would encourage that people tell them the truth or suffer the consequences.

To hold a hearing otherwise, without a full investigation, is counterproductive. Nothing will be solved and a cloud will hang over Kavanaugh's head throughout his tenure as Supreme Court Justice. He may even have to recuse himself if a matter comes before him regarding the president.
But that's another story.

My take, my argument is that this is too important to rush through. An investigation, as in the Thomas/Anita Hill case, would take a few days to a week. As delaying tactics go (I know you'll go there) this is mild compared
to what the GOP did in Obama's final months of service. We had 8 justices for nearly a year that presided over cases. So, my question is: What's the rush?

P.S. Both Orin Hatch and Chuck Grassley were present during the Judge Thomas/Anita Hill hearing. Both are in their 80s.

The rush is that Republicans have a 31% chance of losing control of the Senate, and losing their chance to place Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, after the 2018 election. I am fairly sure that the Democratic Senators, if in a majority, will force Trump to chose a "better" Justice for the Court. Better meaning that the Justice has not written that a President can't be indicted, can't be subpoenaed. Oh, "better" also means Trump cannot pardon himself and "better" means the Justice can explain how he paid for his multi-million dollar house and his gambling debts and a whole lot of other things Kavanaugh paid for with some unknown benefactor's money. Kavanaugh owes some mystery persons a debt that he could repay once he is on the Supreme Court.

Yeah Second, there's a lot of shady stuff that Kavanaugh has been associated with that Democrats have questions about. Of course, knowing the source, the
person responsible for his nomination, it doesn't surprise me that questionable goings on surround him like a heavy fog in a storm.

I would not put it past him that he's hiding his past so as to gain the high court seat. Trumpsters don't care one wit about such things and cry and moan
that Dems are playing politics. Well now, isn't that the pot calling the kettle black! McConnell and the scumbag prince couldn't care less about normal

Some mysterious person has been paying off Brett's debts. The GOP committee chairman is not about to force Brett to give up the name, although that is the obvious line of questioning. Brett stonewalled the Democrats on the committee who were asking the obvious.

Republican politicians and voters get very secretive about money, as if they did something underhanded to get their money. (I've used private eyes to check a few Republicans and, don't be surprised, they did do some cheating to make their money. I called off several deals over their trustworthiness. Never had a similar problem with a Democrat.) Unsurprisingly, Republican voters did not want to see Trump's tax returns. Democrats did. Brett is the same sneaky kind of fellow as Trump. Both aren't sharing ALL information about who pays them for what.

Of course there is. Nobody was surprised that there was a second one either.

Might I add that there is zero corroboration with the first two women's stories either.

There's only one thing that matters at this point, and that's if Republican's have the balls to just push him through. They have a clear mandate and the ability to do it right now, but they're cowards.

Well... either they're cowards, or they they think that they can flake on this and they're hedging their bets for the mid-terms so they can sit back and blame the Democrats for nothing getting done the next two years if they lose the house as well... just like the Democrats do when they lose in the mid-terms.

They're all in cahoots with each other. Nothing but a bunch of political theater to keep the normies fighting while they all get richer and the middle class disappears.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

So many posts ... about what?

Should the accuser(s) testify? Should Kavanaugh testify? Should witness(es) testify? I'd say only if it doesn't interfere with a criminal investigation. But if no criminal investigation is possible (due to the statute of limitations) then everyone should testify. And the FBI should investigate to determine the facts (assuming the now highly political 'FIB' can be trusted to perform an unbiased procedure).

What's the problem?

The only thing left is to guess how long it takes for his name to be withdrawn. I say it happens before the day is done because the republicans are hemorrhaging votes in the mid-terms as long as this continues.

This whole fiasco could cost them the senate. Women aren't going to trust the republicans to pick who fills the open Supreme Court seat. I hope it's to late to get a new nominee vetted until the elections.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

One of the things I notice ... more than most people, I think ... is the timing of events and stories.

The fact that these allegations only came up at the end of the formal hearing and are being strung out like a striptease makes me think that they're all being orchestrated by the Democratic Party.

As it turns out, everyone at the party that Ford claims to have attended (she can't even remember the place or the year) denies that it ever took place.

As far as the Ramirez story is concerned, everyone who was supposedly there denies it, too. Per the WSJ's Kimberly Strassel ...

Quote:

The left made a mistake with this Ramirez story. It isn't just how embarrassingly flimsy it is; she was inebriated; took six days to find memories; everyone denies it. But it strongly suggests the Ford delay demands were about cooking this up. Destroys credibility all around.

I agree the timing is suspicious. But that's no reason to avoid a formal FBI investigation (assuming the FBI can be trusted to be apolitical). If an investigation concluded there was no corroborating evidence for ANY of these claims, it would help expose this effort as a democrat-orchestrated political lynching. If OTOH, the investigation found corroborating evidence, then Kavanaugh would be exposed as unfit. Either way, the truth would out, or at least more of it than there is now.

The problem is that THESE could be investigated, and just when the investigations are nearing conclusion, the Dems could trot out ANOTHER allegation. By constantly delaying the confirmation vote, the Republican party is potentially rewarding the Dems for bad behavior.

There has to be a time limit on these things. If I were heading these hearings I would say "If there are any more allegations against Kavanaugh they need to be in by Thursday, after that they won't even be considered. Period."

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

The fact that an investigation is (for now) off the table doesn't negate my opinion that I think one is necessary - despite your trolling, va-JJ.

This sums up nicely what I think.
Quote:

The Decision Not to Call in the FBI Is Looking Worse and Worse

When Christine Blasey Ford publicly alleged that the Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in high school, the White House immediately rejected calls for an FBI investigation. It refused to treat Ford’s claim as a “vetting” issue and instead committed to a fully political defense of the nomination.

This was a fateful mistake, which the Republican leadership seems poised to repeat now that more allegations against Kavanaugh have surfaced. Senator Chuck Grassley, the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has indicated that he will examine the new questions in the same fashion as the old, with an offer of closed-door interviews or a public hearing.

The Republican rush to confirm Kavanaugh backfired.

How can the White House counsel’s office prepare Kavanaugh for a defense without an independent examination of the facts? The White House has not reviewed in detail what Ford has to say, instead relying on the letter Ford wrote to Senator Dianne Feinstein and the short statements from the other witnesses she has identified. In the case of the new accuser, Deborah Ramirez, all anyone has for now is reporting in The New Yorker and other publications.

If and when a Senate hearing actually takes place, it will be far less informative than it might have been. Granted, it will provide an opportunity for Kavanaugh, Ford, and perhaps other accusers to present their position publicly and allow senators to weigh their conflicting accounts. But a Senate hearing is not a forum for rigorous fact-finding. Lawmakers are not uniformly suited to the role of professional interrogators and, in the absence of an independent, baseline investigative record, they will stage what may turn out to be mostly a spectacle for television.

It’s not terribly surprising that, in the absence of a thorough investigation, Kavanaugh’s allies have tried to fill the void, but these efforts have so far been calamitously counterproductive. I refer, of course, to Ed Whelan’s “mistaken identity” argument, which he outlined on Twitter. Whelan has since deleted the tweets, apologized, and taken a leave of absence from the Ethics and Public Policy Center, but the story won’t end there. At their first opportunity, Democratic senators will ask Kavanaugh what he knew of this badly misconceived and executed undercover operation.

The magical-thinking defenses of Brett Kavanaugh

Yet another consequence of the White House’s abandonment of the background investigative process is the possibility that even if Kavanaugh is confirmed, others will pursue what the FBI has not. There’s already been some discussion among Democrats of an impeachment proceeding if they regain control of the House. Others have suggested a referral in the Ford matter to Maryland criminal-enforcement authorities. The cost to the Supreme Court in either case is incalculable.

An FBI investigation would not necessarily deter outraged Democrats or accusers from going in these directions, but the White House’s absolute refusal to authorize independent fact-finding has only fueled the demands for a credible resolution somewhere, now or later.

The White House, Grassley, and other top Republicans may believe that by spurning standard background investigative procedures they’re avoiding a delay. Their top priority has been speed. But the consequences of not ordering an FBI investigation are worse than a postponement, and the accumulating mass of charges and denials may produce more delay than an expedited FBI review. Over the period that the White House and Judiciary Committee majority have been jousting over the terms and conditions of the public hearing, the FBI could have already done much of what needs to be done — such as conducting some if not all of the interviews of the individuals identified as potential eyewitnesses.

The GOP response to the Kavanaugh allegations sends an unmistakable message to women.

Sometimes the best politics is fully consistent with good government. With the emergence of new allegations, the White House could change course and order a high priority, fast-paced but responsible investigation, or once again push ahead, leaving the outstanding factual questions to the ceaseless war of words between the opposing camps.

The latter route would be unfair to Ford and other women who may wish to be heard, but also disastrous for Kavanaugh, the White House, the Senate, and the Supreme Court.

So was mine ...

Quote:

I find the tactics that the Dems are using to delay and obstruct the process quite inventive, considering that they don't have the vote. Aside from the constant shouting from the gallery, the Dems have managed to ...

Demand endless reams of paperwork from Kavanaugh's history in the Bush WH,
Delay allegations of sexual misconduct until VERY late in the process,
Then demand a public hearing,
And then change their stance and demand a "full FBI investigation" as soon as a public hearing was acceded to.

Now, I have no idea whether the allegations are true or false. (But if we were to follow THUGR's stance of letting Clinton's bygones be bygones, I suppose we could let this 30-year old allegation also be lost in the mists of history. Right?)

But I'd be willing to bet SOME dollars that if you were to look into this professor's activities, you'd find her working with Democratic Senators in the past six months or so, working out the timing and tactics for maximum effect. BRAVO!

PLEASE NOTE, THUGR AND SHIT***, THIS IS NPR. Which continues ...

Quote:

The long answer: Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said on Wednesday that she thinks the committee must look into the allegations by Christine Blasey Ford, who says Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her three decades ago.

Politics
Kavanaugh Accuser's Classmate: 'That It Happened Or Not, I Have No Idea'

Specifically, Collins told a Maine radio station that she believes in the Senate's responsibility to vet nominees for high office. If it needs more support, it should have it, she said.

"If we need additional help from the FBI, we could ask for it — the committee could ask for [it]," she said.

Collins is an important player because she and a handful of other borderline senators could make the difference in the final vote on Kavanaugh in the Senate. But she doesn't belong to the Judiciary Committee.

Even if she did, it doesn't have the authority to give an assignment to an executive branch agency such as the FBI.
How might that have to work?

Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, could ask President Trump to instruct the FBI to become involved. The bureau reports to him in the organizational structure of the government, and for these purposes acts as a kind of "contractor" for the White House, as former FBI assistant director Ron Hosko told NPR.

"If the White House were to ask the FBI to reopen its file and go conduct the investigation, the FBI could do that," he said. "I think they could do it swiftly, effectively and report back within days."
Politics

That is what happened in 1991 when an attorney named Anita Hill brought allegations about sexual harassment against her former colleague Clarence Thomas, who was under consideration for a seat on the Supreme Court.

Then-Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Joe Biden, D-Del., asked then-President George H.W. Bush to involve the FBI in looking into Hill's accusations.

Bush — a Republican who had nominated Thomas and wanted to confirm him — agreed. The FBI went to work questioning Hill and others, and ultimately the Judiciary Committee convened hearings at which she and Thomas appeared.

The FBI conducted a background check on Kavanaugh as part of the White House's review process of vetting him for the Supreme Court. Over the course of his career in the federal government, he's undergone a total of six background checks.

In July, Ford sent a letter to the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., in which she raised her allegations against Kavanaugh. Feinstein referred Ford's letter to the FBI on Sept. 12. The bureau then sent it to the White House to be added to Kavanaugh's background check file.

White House counsel Don McGahn sent that updated file to the Judiciary committee the same day.
Why did Feinstein wait so long? Why didn't any of this come up at Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing?

That isn't clear. What Feinstein has said is that Ford asked her to keep the letter confidential. Then when a news report surfaced about the story, Feinstein said she decided to go public. Her colleagues and Republicans both have criticized her for the way she has handled this situation.
So will Grassley ask Trump to bring the FBI back in now?

So far he hasn't.
Why not?

Grassley says the right way to investigate Ford's case is with a hearing or an interview in which she tells her story and Kavanaugh then has the ability to respond. The Judiciary Committee reportedly also has volunteered to send investigators to Palo Alto, Calif., where Ford lives, to talk with her there outside the view of TV cameras.

What does Ford's camp say?

Ford's lawyer, Deborah Katz, wrote to the Judiciary Committee that Ford would be willing to testify on "terms that are fair and which ensure her safety." All the same, Ford's "strong preference," Katz wrote, is for the committee to permit a "full investigation prior to her testimony."

The text of Ford's letter was obtained by NPR; it was first reported on Thursday by The New York Times.

A number of Democratic senators signed a letter to Trump on Thursday asking him to direct the FBI to investigate Ford's allegation.

"We urge you to reconsider your decision and ask the FBI to take appropriate action in response to the claims that have been made, so that Judge Kavanaugh's nomination can be considered by the Senate in a manner that is both consistent with past practices and fair to the parties involved and the American people," the lawmakers wrote.

The letter was signed by Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Kamala Harris of California, Patrick Leahy of Vermont, Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Doug Jones of Alabama, Tom Udall of New Mexico, and Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada.

The Senate Judiciary Committee, meanwhile, used a thread on Twitter to detail the steps it is taking to investigate Ford's story.
