The letter that William P. Barr, the attorney general, sent to Congress.

The Attorney General
Washington, D.C.
March 22, 2019

The Honorable Lindsey Graham
Chairman, Committee on the Judiciary United States Senate
290 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510

The Honorable Dianne Feinstein
Ranking Member, Committee on the Judiciary United States Senate
331 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510

The Honorable Jerrold Nadler
Chairman, Committee on the Judiciary United States House of Representatives
2132 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20515

The Honorable Doug Collins
Ranking Member, Committee on the Judiciary United States House of Representatives
1504 Longworth House Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Chairman Graham, Chairman Nadler, Ranking Member Feinstein, and Ranking Member Collins:

I write to notify you pursuant to 28 C.F.R. § 600.9(a)(3) that Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III has concluded his investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election and related matters. In addition to this notification, the Special Counsel regulations require that I provide you with ‘‘a description and explanation of instances (if any) in which the Attorney General” or acting Attorney General “concluded that a proposed action by a Special Counsel was so inappropriate or unwarranted under established Departmental practices that it should not be pursued.” 28 C.F.R. § 600.9(a)(3). There were no such instances during the Special Counsel’s investigation.

The Special Counsel has submitted to me today a “confidential report explaining the prosecution or declination decisions” he has reached, as required by 28 C.F.R. § 600.8(c). I am reviewing the report and anticipate that I may be in a position to advise you of the Special Counsel’s principal conclusions as soon as this weekend.

Separately, I intend to consult with Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein and Special Counsel Mueller to determine what other information from the report can be released to Congress and the public consistent with the law, including the Special Counsel regulations, and the Department’s long-standing practices and policies. I remain committed to as much transparency as possible, and I will keep you informed as to the status of my review.

Finally, the Special Counsel regulations provide that “the Attorney General may determine that public release of” this notification “would be in the public interest.” 28 C.F.R. § 600.9(c). I have so determined, and I will disclose this letter to the public after delivering it to you.

Sincerely,
William P. Barr
Attorney General

My reply should be Benghazi, but I'll simply say: Why? Don't you think that the Republicans would take advantage were it about Obama? Stringing things out is their M.O.

McConnell's infamous obstruction of Obama's administration, for one.

As far as no collusion and the rest. Those will turn out to be a "Jack in the Box" surprise.

Just so you know, I prefer Dunkin' Donuts....ha, ha, ha

Whole report please!

Oh of course, both parties are good at tactical obstruction or, even better, selective prosecution by our law and intelligence agencies for political purposes.

The question is, will you criticize the Democratic party when they engage in the same slimy tactics as Republicans?

Why so many of President Donald Trump's aides lied to protect him in Russia investigations

The first lie – the first one that was a crime, at least – came on the fourth day of Donald Trump’s presidency, in a White House office down the hall from Trump’s own.

That day, a pair of FBI agents came to question Trump’s top national security aide, Mike Flynn, about his dealings with the Russian government. Flynn gave the agents a tour of his new spot in the new administration, interrupted at one point as Trump and some movers walked past discussing where to hang art on the walls. Then Flynn took them back to his corner office and calmly lied to them about conversations with Russia’s ambassador.

Flynn, agents later wrote, “did not parse his words or hesitate.” He simply lied.

The exchange was the start of a remarkable succession of lies over nearly two years by some of Trump’s closest political associates, told to federal agents, Congress and the public that distanced the president and his campaign from an investigation into whether his campaign participated in Russian efforts to disrupt the election that put him in office.

Whatever else special counsel Robert Mueller’s now-concluded investigation may reveal, it has devoted considerable attention to the Trump associates whose lies to lawmakers and investigators deflected attention from connections between Russia and the president’s campaign, and to a central question hanging over many of the charges Mueller has filed: Why did they lie?

Then it is funny that Trump's men are going to jail. Trump only goes to jail if the Senate sends him. Cohen, Flynn and Papadopoulos have pleaded guilty to making false statements. So has Manafort’s former deputy Rick Gates, and an attorney who worked with the pair, Alexander Van Der Zwaan.

One suggested he lied out of loyalty. Others appear to have been protecting the president. One, Michael Cohen, a former executive in Trump’s private business and his personal lawyer, said he lied because the president wanted him to.

“Everybody's job at the Trump Organization is to protect Mr. Trump. Every day most of us knew we were coming in and we were going to lie for him on something and that became the norm,” Cohen said in sworn testimony to a House committee Feb. 27. “And that's exactly what's happening right now in this country and it's exactly what's happening here in government.”

Yep, just a new phase of the investigation into Trump and his super corrupt administration. The rule of law is running it's course and that's what the trolls don't get.

They also don't get that they've exposed themselves as trolls who care nothing about the crimes exposed. They only talk about collusion. If conspiracy is not proven then to them Trump is somehow vindicated. That level of ignorance is off the charts.

The rule of law does not include GOP Senators. What would the Senate do if Trump obstructed justice? The Senate could ignore obstruction or it could remove Trump from office. In the latter case, ordinary citizen Trump, the ex-President, goes to a criminal trial. Then jail. Trump did obstruct justice, but no Republican Senator will vote to remove Trump. Those Senators have already decided Trump is innocent and there is no rule of law that will force them to change their minds. Trump admits the allegations of collusion between his advisers and Russian officials played into sacking of FBI director in order to obstruct justice. But the Republican Senators have decided to ignore what they heard Trump say on TV:
www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/may/11/donald-trump-james-comey-firin
g-russia-investigation

If Trump got asked a second time about obstructing justice during an impeachment trial, his lawyers will craft a false statement for Trump to read, one that all GOP Senators can hide behind when they vote "Not Guilty". There is no rule of law forcing a Senator to admit he knows the President is lying under oath, although juries are expected to decide if a witness is lying and to not accept a liar's word as truth.

No collusion
No election tampering
No working with the Russians ( leave that for Hillary and the DNC )

Everyone knows full well that most of those ' crimes ' were meaningless process crimes, misstatements which were turned into LYING to the FBI. If we judged Hillary by the same standard,( as well as most everyone in the FBI ) , the list of folks going to jail would be a lot longer today. Oddly, we don't see this happening.

Flynn and Papadopoulos were especially egregious and gross overreaches by the Federal govt. Papadopoulos was clearly a lower level no one who the FBI set up , outright.

That should concern and even scare the hell out of every law abiding American.

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

I don't believe Trump fears that GOP Senators will crucify him. Sen. Ted Cruz (GOP-TX) was running second to Trump in the primaries and Cruz got the full Trump disrespect/contempt treatment, but when Cruz looks into Mueller's report, he won't see anything rising to the level of impeachable offense. That is because Texas GOP voters don't see Trump as a crook. The only rule of law that might throw Trump out of the White House is the next General Election in 19 months, not the Senate and not Ted Cruz.

I wouldn’t find a “no collusion” finding to be so surprising. But MAGAkultists shouldn’t find it to be very reassuring either. From all we’ve seen, Trump has laundered a lot of Russian mob money. Putin has a lot of “Kompromat” on him, and that’s why he did everything he could to install him. Trump is a Putin asset not necessarily because he wanted to be, but because he allowed himself to be duped into the role. Trump is a criminal being blackmailed by another criminal to commit treason on his behalf. Both Occam’s and Hanlon’s Razors apply here.

We haven’t seen the report yet. We've seen evidence of collusion, proof of corruption, and some real slimy behavior by Trump's campaign. Is that enough to indict Trump? Or is there enough plausible deniability to keep him away from any real consequences? He's already survived scandals and outrages that would have sunk a normal president. But this isn't a normal president.

The nervous posturing of the trumpjugend and their older reichskult groomer-handlers is just that. They don’t have to admit that Mueller has already been devastating to Trump’s organization and reputation and that the rest of the report will only do more damage. We know. They don’t need to tell us how scared they are of the numerous other ongoing and imminent congressional and judicial investigations into the criminal-in-chief’s conduct. We know, and the trumptards are so high on the Kool aid, they don't care.

Oh, I'm sure the House Dems will find smething to argue about. If they don't like the conclusions they'll want to see the report. If they don't like the report they'll want to see the background info. If they don't get, or don't like, the background info they'll subpoena Mueller (!) and suddenly the guy who was their savior becomes their enemy. It's just amazing how Trump Derangement Sydrome causes people to dump what they were thinking last, and pivot on a moment's notice to the latest shiny object flashed in front of them.

Yanno, when I hear a million "reasons" to do something ... 9-11! Al Qaeda! Aluminum tubes! Terrorism! Killing his own people! Mushroom cloud! Inspections! Bioweapons! Bend over and spread your cheeks! East west north south somewhat of Baghdad! .... that tells me that I'm being flooded with bullcrap.

Same with Trump Derangment Syndrome. RUSSIA!!RUSSIA!!RUSSIA! Financial crimes! Immigration! Sex crimes! Orange skin! Unstable! They don't care if they "get" him for his orange skin and candy-floss hair or on "collusion", all they know is that they want to get rid of him by any means possible. Facts, honesty, rationality, and the institutions of the USA are not to get in the way.

Yanno, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy back when, I said there would probably be Trump business corruption (because, who in business isn't corrupt?) but no Russia collusion. I was wrong. So far there's not been any sign of Trump business corruption either.

You mean like Trump fans have dropped "But Hillary! Obama!?" Give me a break - you fwads will never let Hillary go. 7 Benghazi trials, ALL fruitless, so we get another 6 on Trump to even the score.

I don't want that but it would be fair in the effed up world of the GOP.

It's funny how the trolls here forget that Ken Star was investigating a land deal by the Clintons. To them that's ok, yet to go after Trump for anything is illegit. All I can say is tick tock

Trey Gowdy had an interesting take on why some parts of the report or background info should be withheld.

Basically, as a prosecutor you should either indict and shut up, or don't indict and shut up. You don't make public a number of allegations which will never go to trial, as Come did when he listed a while bunch of Hillary's actions that he decided shouldn't be prosecuted. In Gowdy's view that set a terrible precedent, because people shouldn't have to prove themselves innocent in the court of public opinion, which they can never do. Proving a negative ... Saddam didn't have WMD, Trump didn't collude... is impossible anyway. As he said, Trump isn't above the law, but he isn't below it either.

In Gowdy's view, a prosecutor who releases info on unindicted people is failing in his Constitutional duty.

But, decisions and opinions about Trump are political not judicial, so maybe the politics needs to play out

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

Hm. That's very sound logic. And it's completely reversed my thinking.

Also, it begs the question: what legal reasoning would there be to use even an unreleased report - and send it along going from investigation to investigation - as a reason for further investigation? If there wasn't anything in the first investigation that would lead to an indictment, what's the legal basis for pursuing it elsewhere?

But if it ** IS ** used further, then it should be released. Because it seems to me it's entered into territory beyond legal justification.

If I were Trump, I would want everything to be made public.

SIX, I think the problem is that even if the report (AND ALL OF THE BACKGROUND INFO) is fully released, that WON'T be the end of it all. Five witnesses say one thing, a sixth says something else, but if that sixth witness says what the dems want to hear they'll just junk wht the other five said.

Look at how long they've been barking about ... nothing. They will bark nd keep on barking whether they have the full report or they don't.

I need to think about this a bit. Trump has Constitutional protections that are due him, but the nation has political needs to meet as well.

He absolutely does.

That's why I'd like to see him be the one to give it to the people of his own volition.

Well, I think more is going on than meets the eye.

There are chuckleheads aplenty here and chuckleheds aplenty in Congress, but they're just dupes for the real agenda. And what is the "real" agenda? To break Trump and to thwart his campaign promises to reverse (parts of) the globalist agenda.

I think all of the anti-Trump Dems in the House have made Trump vulnerable to neocon Repubs in the Senate: "We will protect you from impeachment but only if you appoint neocons that further our neocon agenda". The only thing holding the deep state back from full-on militarily invading nations is that the Pentagon knows that its weapons are vulnerable to destruction.

So all of these dupes across the nation ... those Dem politicians who whipped up anti-Trump sentiment over nothing and the M$M that dutifully perpetuated lies and the people who were fooled into believing those lies made war and "interventions" more likely, not less likely, even if they believed that they were advocating stability, peace, and "the good".

State Attorneys General Suing Trump or His Organizations.

Other states have moved to file lawsuits against Trump and his businesses after investigations: the attorneys general for Maryland and the District of Columbia sued Trump in 2017 for allegedly violating the emoluments clause of the Constitution.

The House Financial Services Committee.

The Intelligence Committee is also planning a joint investigation with the House Financial Services Committee that will look into Deutsche Bank’s lending practices. Chaired by the Democrat Maxine Waters, the Financial Services Committee plans to look into why Deutsche Bank was willing to lend money to the Trump Organization when other financial entities would not. According to Waters, Trump’s family, including Ivanka Trump and Kushner, bank with Deutsche bank.

Deutsche Bank has been fined in the past for money laundering for Russian clients, and is under scrutiny for its involvement with Danske Bank of Denmark, which is also under scrutiny for money laundering. The committee is looking to see whether illicit money, from Russia or otherwise, ended up in any of the Trump Organization’s accounts, and whether there is any evidence of money laundering, Russian or otherwise. Deutsche Bank has said it plans to assist the lawmakers “in their official oversight functions.”

The House Ways and Means Committee

Ways and Means is one of Congress’s most powerful committees, and Democratic Chairman Richard Neal has said he plans to build a case for subpoenaing a copy of Trump’s personal and professional tax returns. The president has been under pressure to release his returns since the 2016 campaign, but has consistently refused, leading some to believe that they contain evidence of financial malfeasance. On February 7, the committee held a hearing on “legislative proposals and tax law related to presidential and vice-presidential tax returns,” which looked into ways the committee could legally obtain the returns.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee

Democratic Chairman Eliot Engel has said he plans to investigate whether Trump’s business ties abroad are affecting his foreign-policy decisions. Specifically, Engel said he wanted to look into whether Trump violated the Constitution’s emoluments clause. On February 27, 2019, the committee held a full hearing on the Trump administration’s foreign policy.

On March 4, Engel, in conjunction with the Intelligence Committee and the Oversight Committee, also issued a letter demanding documents and interviews about Trump’s communications with Putin.

Signym, you made it loud and clear that you don't care that Trump swindled banks, investors, and students before he was President. You don't care about his $billion tax cheating. You don't care that he decides foreign policy based on who is giving the Trump businesses the biggest bribes.

You don't care how Trump got elected, except he has to stay in power and be reelected in 2020, despite you being only 10% for his policies. Or maybe you only like 10% of his policies. You're not transparent on that. As for me, I am 100% for another Trump tax cut for me. And if it benefits Trump's fortune as much as it does me, it's fine with me.

THUGR? Too stupid to know any better, WISHY? Her life is too horrible to contemplate; I give her a break because of her history and current situation.

But SLOPPYSECONDS and REAVERBOT are an entirely different matter. Both of them - for somewhat different reasons - are dedicated propgndists. They should lose credibility forever, along with Rachel Madcow and indeed most of the M$M. When the issue is who broke the law, and it's clear Hillary did exactly that, hatred or love FOR someone is immaterial. I'm not speaking to alliances or affection here, I'm simply speaking of statues and who did what.

Trump indeed was a nightmare candidate for the GOP, but for other reasons than you may want to admit.

Personally, he's got plenty of faults. I don't deny that. I'm not at all of fan of how he handles some issues, or when he goes out of his way to cause animosity towards friend and foe alike. He's his own worst enemy. But that's not the full measure of a candidate. There's the policy side of him which many have desperately been waiting for, even if the manner in which he campaigns and promotes them are utterly disagreeable.

In short, the packaging is wrong, but what he offers as actual policy, I am more than willing to accept, much more so than what the Dems are pitching.

So nice of you to notice. Do the words, "Can't indict a sitting president" sound familiar? Trump will do more damage to the GOP in office than out, imho. So - we'll see what the report says if they release it all.

Wasn't it interesting that when Trump went to Mar a Lago this weekend, he brought along his "Russian Collusion" lawyers? Was he tipped off? Curious.
