SECOND, I fail to see that Trump WAS worried about "the Russians".

Just because Trump repeatedly called the Mueller investigation a "witch hunt" doesn't mean that he was worried about the Russians, or even that he was worried about what someone might find concerning collusion*. Being maliciously prosecuted would be enough to get anyone pissed off, ESPECIALLY if you know that you're innocent, and ESPECIALLY if you know that this politically-based prosecution will have real-life political consequences.

You're either stupid or you're lying when you keep insisting that Trump was worried about "the Russians". Given your history, I think you're just lying.

When will Mueller's Witch Hunt Fishing Expedition be over?

First and most obviously: Attorney General William P. Barr presented a plainly slanted prebuttal of the Mueller report and stood up for the president’s conduct and did so with a pugilistic swagger that almost dared opponents to take issue with him.

[Read the full, redacted Mueller report]
https://games-cdn.washingtonpost.com/notes/prod/default/documents/f5fe
536c-81bb-45be-86e5-a9fee9794664/note/a8d336ef-e98d-4a08-987d-b4c154b22700.pdf

Barr’s presentation was tendentious in both substance and form. In substance, his suggestion that President Trump’s anger and frustration at the probe was an indication that he lacked criminal intent to obstruct is wrong; if anything, Trump’s fury points in the direction of obstructive intent. And it must be troubling for the Justice Department and the FBI, which looked to Barr as an incoming guardian, to see him simply ignore the president’s assault on law enforcement over the life of the probe.

The style and form of Barr’s news conference was even more one-sided. Barr crescendoed repeatedly at his several declarations echoing the president’s mantra of “no collusion” (even using that legally meaningless term). And the most bizarre aspect of the entire performance was his sympathetic portrayal of the president’s overwrought state of mind, resembling every bit a personal defense attorney rather than the chief law enforcement officer of the United States.

The Russia Investigation Will Continue

There is still much to uncover — and America’s intelligence services will work to uncover it. For example, how did the Kremlin know where to aim its disinformation effort? How did it know which communities to target, in which counties and states? One can argue that the Russians had a better sense of where to deploy their resources than did the Clinton campaign.

Why did Trump and those around him consistently parrot Russian talking points? Why was the Trump campaign so intent on disregarding expert advice on Russian issues?

The Mueller report notes that while investigators couldn’t prove a conspiracy, some people nonetheless displayed conspiratorial behavior (destroying communications, engaging in a cover-up, and obstructing the work of investigators).

The FBI, which has the benefit of secret intelligence, is certainly aware that it has only scratched the surface of Russian activities in 2016. Cyberhacks, troll farms, and the use of WikiLeaks are hardly cutting-edge espionage tradecraft. The Russian efforts that have been revealed to date were poorly hidden and displayed little professional elegance.

Counterintelligence agencies must find it hard to believe the cupboard is already bare since, as Mueller pointed out, the Russians had a dedicated and extensive program to damage the U.S. polity. . . .

A number of commentators have focused on the bumbling nature of those in and around the Trump campaign, concluding that their ignorance and naïveté militate against their ability to engage in a conspiracy. This is a misunderstanding of how the espionage game works. Intelligence services recruit plenty of gullible people. The responsibility for recruiting, training, exploiting, and protecting a clandestine operation lies on the side of the professional intelligence service: The spy service must translate the target’s potential willingness into a productive and secure relationship; the professional intelligence officer must slowly manipulate the relationship in an increasingly conspiratorial and secret direction, then help rationalize it for the target. The Cold War was littered with Kremlin spies the West failed to uncover in a timely manner because Western agents assumed they were too obvious, absurd, drunk, dim-witted, or low-level. Naive and ignorant people can get in too deep when manipulated by professionals.

Trump’s new favorite network embraces Russian propaganda. One America News Network (OANN) has no qualms with playing the mouthpiece for Kremlin-hatched conspiracy theories. And one of its most loyal viewers lives in the White House.

There’s enormous value to Moscow in getting its fake news repeated by an American newscast, said former FBI agent Clint Watts, a research fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute.

“It’s source laundering,” Watts said. “Then they can recirculate the story as an organic American story, and that could travel further than if it’s only on RT and Sputnik… The more places it shows up the more it looks like it’s not a single source origin story.”

There’s another benefit to the Kremlin in airing its disinformation on OANN. One of the channel’s most ardent and credulous viewers happens to be President of the United States.

“It's a great network,” Donald Trump said during a 2017 news conference.

Trump is definitely watching the network. Last month he tweeted an old conspiracy claim, discredited in 2017, that the U.K.’s signals intelligence agency helped President Obama spy on his campaign, after seeing a segment about it on OANN.

“WOW!,” the president wrote. “It is now just a question of time before the truth comes out, and when it does, it will be a beauty!”

It is easy to read Rudy Giuliani's mind and a Republican Senator's mind:

When asked on Sunday about Rudy Giuliani saying there was “nothing wrong” with the Trump campaign using Russian information, Republican Senate Judiciary Committee member Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) struggled to directly repudiate Giuliani’s comment.

During an interview on “Meet The Press,” Chuck Todd asked Kennedy if Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s lawyer, was wrong to make such a remark.

“I don’t know if he’s wrong or right,” Kennedy responded. “I don’t know what the law is.”

An exasperated Todd asked, “But ethically, should that be wrong?”

Former prosecutor explains why she would charge Trump

When I was a federal prosecutor, I once indicted and tried a man named Roberto Ortiz for trying to convince his ex-girlfriend to leave town for a few weeks so she could not testify against him at an upcoming trial for illegal firearms possession. Despite Ortiz's efforts, the ex-girlfriend did not leave town, and a trial jury convicted Ortiz on various charges including witness tampering.

Ortiz's obstructive conduct pales in comparison to President Donald Trump's prolonged campaign to torpedo the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller into Russian interference in the 2016 election. That is one reason why I signed a letter along with more than 400 other former federal prosecutors who said that if Trump were a private citizen they would have indicted him on obstruction of justice charges based on the evidence set forth in Mueller's report.

"Each of us believes," the letter states, "that the conduct of President Trump described in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report would, in the case of any other person not covered by the Office of Legal Counsel policy against indicting a sitting President, result in multiple felony charges for obstruction of justice."

The letter from former prosecutors has nothing to do with politics. It has everything to do with the law.

Not only is the evidence sufficient to justify a criminal charge against Trump; it's not a close call as obstruction cases go. In the report, Mueller lays out an entire menu of "potentially obstructive acts" (Vol. 2, Page 1) committed by Trump, including trying to convince FBI Director James Comey to drop the investigation of National Security Director Michael Flynn; firing Comey to try to derail the investigation; trying to curtail Mueller's investigation; trying to have White House Counsel Don McGahn instruct Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to remove Mueller; trying to convince McGahn to lie about the effort to remove Mueller; and trying to dissuade Paul Manafort, Flynn and others from providing information to Mueller.

The number of Federal Prosecutors who singed the petition proclaiming Trump committed several provable felonies is now at 600.

This is unprecedented. Barr has to be staring down at the floor when walking around the DOJ. Even so, there's no way he doesn't feel all eyes disapprovingly looking at him.

With every passing day we get to see what a sleaze-bucket Barr is. Hell, the Big 3 - Trump, McConnell and Barr should be enshrined in the Scum-Bucket's Hall of Shame. Whoa, wait...should be the Big 4, I forgot Lindsay Graham.

I saw one former prosecutor (female) actually admit that she was depressed over this total sham of a government at the hands of Trump. And from what I understand, the signees are a mix of Dems, Repubs and Indies. Way to go Team Trump! You are now the biggest crooks in American history.

It was perfectly predictable that Barr would protect Trump at all costs. Trump nominated Barr because Barr had sent an unsolicited 19-page memo to the president's lawyers arguing that the investigation into whether Trump obstructed justice in the Russia probe was "overly aggressive" and "fatally misconceived." Barr had prejudged Trump innocent before Barr became Trump's attorney general.

Little known fact: Barr pledged his support for Richard Nixon while attending a Roman Catholic elementary school.

(From Wikipedia)
Quote:

Vice News (stylized as VICE News) is Vice Media, Inc.'s current affairs channel, producing daily documentary essays and video through its website and YouTube channel. It promotes itself on its coverage of "under-reported stories".[1] Vice News was created in December 2013 and is based in New York City, though it has bureaus worldwide.

The rest of the article: It talks about a trend of digital media companies losing valuation in recent times. Although I don't see the reason why you cited this article in response to my post, it doesn't surprise me that you
would cherry-pick something that may, at first glance, be considered negative
unless, of course, someone takes the time to read the article in it's entirety. Still though, it was a "nice try."

I asterisked (*) below a section of the article that illustrates the main theme: namely that large media conglomerates paid "beaucoup" (bookoo) bucks for digital media outlets speculating that they would be worth a lot more in the future because of their potentially reaching millions of young people in
the know.

These tech-savvy digital media companies, it was once thought, would be the proverbial goose that laid the golden egg. Companies like Univision, Comcast and Disney spent hundreds of millions, and were willing to spend as much as billions to obtain these properties. They all lost money. Digital sites like Gawker, The Onion, Vox and Buzzfeed. But Disney did not lose money in the move it made in "writing off" their investment into Vice Media/Vice News, so don't worry your little head about them. Neither did Vice News and others. Vice Media co-founder Shane Smith is a billionaire, so "don't cry for me Argentina."

Just so people know how others fared (although it has nothing to do with why I posted Vice News' reading of The Mueller Report):

Mic: which raised more than $60 million, sold for less than $5 million late last year.
Mashable: which was valued at about $250 million in 2016, sold for less than $50 million in 2017.
Gawker Media, plus the Onion and other sites, just sold for a price that’s likely well below $50 million.

There's more, but that's all I have for now. Thanks for the cite. Enjoy the rest of the show.

(from the article)
Quote:

Now, Disney says all of the money it put into Vice has been incinerated: In investor filings Wednesday, Disney said it no longer thinks it will ever get any return on the investment it made in Vice — a company that at one point was supposedly worth $5.7 billion.

Vice is still worth something, in some investors’ eyes. Last week, a group of lenders said they put a fresh round of $250 million into the company.

But Disney’s accounting decision is yet another example — perhaps the most stunning one — of the turnabout we’ve seen in digital media over the past few years. Investors have decided that high-flying publishers that once confidently explained that they’d created a new media paradigm are now worth very little ... or even less.

Here’s a partial roll call familiar to some of you:

*Mic, which raised more than $60 million, sold for less than $5 million late last year.
Mashable, which was valued at about $250 million in 2016, sold for less than $50 million in 2017.
The properties formerly known as Gawker Media, plus the Onion and other sites, just sold for a price that’s likely well below $50 million; Univision, the TV conglomerate which sold them off, had paid $135 million for the Gawker sites alone in 2016.*

We don’t (yet) know the value that Comcast, which put a collective $600 million into Vox Media (which owns this site), and BuzzFeed over the past few years, now thinks those two publishers are worth. But it’s a reasonable bet that Comcast thinks they are worth less than it thought in 2015.
All of those companies have different stories and different particulars. The through-line is that a few years ago, all of them were confident that they were going to shoot up in value, because they knew how to reach young audiences by exploiting the big tech platforms — in particular, Facebook and Google.

Instead, Facebook and Google have hoovered up the majority of digital ad revenue — the money the new publishers expected to get once they reached scale. And publishers that had expected Facebook and Google to rely on them for content have learned that Facebook and Google don’t really need them, after all.

Here are the Disney/Vice particulars: Disney told investors Wednesday it had wiped out $353 million of the money it had previously put into Vice. That followed an announcement last fall that Disney had knocked down the value of its Vice investment by $157 million.

Disney declined to comment. But one bit of language in Disney’s quarterly filing Wednesday is telling: Disney describes the $353 million “impairment charge” it took on Vice as a “write-off” — which in accounting-speak means there’s nothing left to get rid of after this. It’s all gone.

Per Investopedia: “A write-down becomes a write-off if the entire balance of the asset is eliminated and removed from the books altogether.”

If you’ve been doing the math, you’ll note that $353 million plus $157 million is $510 million — well more than the $400 million Disney invested directly in Vice.

Since Disney won’t comment, we will assume that the additional sum includes Vice investments that Disney owned through A&E, the TV programmer that Disney owns along with Hearst, which also backed Vice; as well as $70 million that 21st Century Fox sunk into Vice. That ownership stake transferred to Disney earlier this year when Disney bought a good chunk of the Fox empire.

One last caveat: You can’t say that Disney is saying Vice Media isn’t worth anything at all — just that Disney thinks its investment isn’t going to be worth anything. That’s a distinction with a difference for some Vice investors, who have deals that allow them to get their money from the company, in the case of a sale, before other investors.

In any case, Vice is certainly worth much less than Disney and many other big, sophisticated media companies thought quite recently. And while Disney can’t feel great about losing money on Vice, it will be quite happy that it didn’t pay billions for all of it — an idea that seemed very plausible as recently as 2016.

Vice, meanwhile, is trying to overhaul itself under the leadership of CEO Nancy Dubuc, who took over for founder Shane Smith a year ago. Dubuc has been tasked with cleaning up the company’s books, as well as its in-house ethos.

Vice and Smith, who remains the company’s executive chair, used to revel in a pirate persona. But now, in the #MeToo era, the company has apologized for a “detrimental ‘boy’s club’ culture that fostered inappropriate behavior that permeated throughout the company.”

All I can say is that I'd bet you'd be very hard pressed to find another 2 year time frame in American history where more politicians and bureaucrats have either quit, resigned, got fired and/or arrested.

Any time it happens, it brings a smile to my face. Doesn't matter what side they were on.

If Trump never delivers on a single other campaign promise, the swamp is being drained.

Richard Ben-Veniste, a former Watergate prosecutor, told The Independent that any effort to keep Mr Mueller from testifying is likely to fail.

“I think ultimately Robert Mueller will testify, and that the more the president and his attorney general seek to delay or derail Mueller’s public testimony the more of a political price it will pay in the court of public opinion where people will be asking the logical question: what is the president hiding?” Mr Ben-Veniste said.

He continued: “Why does he fear Mr Mueller’s testimony before a congressional committee that obviously has the ability to provide bipartisan questioning?”

Mr Trump, for his part, has oscillated on the issue, saying at times that he doesn’t know if Mr Mueller should testify, while at other times saying it is either a bad idea or a great idea.

No I wouldn't be hard pressed to find a more despicable time in this country's history. Actually it would be a close second to now. The Watergate era once

Well, firstly, read Sigs' post. You may have been told that the long list of people who have been fired, resigned or jailed were all brought in by Trump, but that doesn't mean that it's true.

I do care. VERY MUCH.

As it turned out, the Democrat running against Trump is the very definition of a traitor you describe. I don't know when exactly the Democratic party became the cheerleader for big banks and multi-national corporations, but it happened right under everyone's noses.

There's a small group of Identitarian Socialists that got primaried in, in 2018, the face of which is AOC, but the solutions they're pedaling are even less popular and good for the country than the Establisment Democrats.

Your party is in chaos man, and it's liable to rip itself apart and splinter off into pieces. The Democratic party you once knew and loved is only an empty shell of what it was back in the 60's.

6ix, nobody has to buy Congress or the White House. They already sold themselves BEFORE they got into politics. Actually, they were sold before they were born, back in the days of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, when the voters kept electing the wealthy slave-owners to Congress and the Presidency. Voters had a high tolerance for slave-owners (exception for the owners that habitually tortured their slaves -- that could disqualify a politician with the voters). These crappy voters got the crappy government they deserved. That never stopped, even until today, although we no longer have the easy tattletale of slave-owner/not-slave-owner to sort out who should not be elected. But we do have a newer selection criteria: pays-taxes/cheats-on-taxes as a substitute for sorting candidates.

The government never, never, never had the equivalent of football referees to call a foul or penalty on illegal moves by Congress or the White House, so there is rampant cheating going on all the time in the game, cheating that can be seen by the audience, who are people like you and me. But the fun part is that half of the audience declares there is no cheating when it is a player from their side who just cheating in front of everybody in the world. The audience is worse, a more dishonest bunch of cheaters, than the players.

What government really needs is either referees that can instantly penalize the players or it needs an audience that will rush onto the playing field and penalize a cheater.

$153 million in Bill and Hillary Clinton speaking fees, documented
www.cnn.com/2016/02/05/politics/hillary-clinton-bill-clinton-paid-spee
ches/index.html

The former secretary of state testily responded to Sanders' charges.

"Time and time again, by innuendo, by insinuation, there is this attack that he is putting forth which really comes down to, you know, anybody who ever took donations or speaking fees from any interest group has to be bought. And I just absolutely reject that, senator, and I really don't think these kinds of attacks by insinuation are worthy of you. And enough is enough," Clinton said.

She then challenged him: "If you've got something to say, say it directly, but you will not find that I ever changed a view or a vote because of any donation I ever received."

Hillary did not change her views for $153 million because she and Trump were, when young, already very kind and considerate of the needs of the wealthy.

Well... yeah.

So what's the answer?

Hillary wasn't it. Ousting Trump and seeing what Pence would do isn't it.

I never said that Trump didn't cheat his taxes, although I'm guessing that what he did with them is entirely legal according to the rule of law that has been written by crooked politicians over the years.

If broken down by the people under a microscope, seeing what the Rich are allowed to get away with by having Trumps mountains of paperwork available to pour through might enrage people... at least until another war is started to distract them.

I find it hilarious that when Obama's returns were released that they were a simple two sided form like the rest of us on a payroll have, as if that's the only money he made and the only taxes he paid. I'm assuming that if Hillary were voted in, we'd see something quite similar from her as well.

As good as your tax returns have gotten under the Trump administration, you're still being screwed compared to what these people on either side of the aisle get away with everyday.

You can look up those tax returns. That would be so much better than the nonsense and falsehoods you wrote.

6ix, when America got 300,000,000 people like you, the 30,000,000 like me cannot compensate for your inability to understand and take action. There is no way to completely fix this country until at least 165,000,000 stop watching TV and get to work fixing what is wrong. But it wouldn't hurt if a few million more would wake up from whatever the hell they are wasting their time on.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
Think of it. I became President of the United States in one of the most hard fought and consequential elections in the history of our great nation. From long before I ever took office, I was under a sick & unlawful investigation concerning what has become known as the Russian Hoax. My campaign was being seriously spied upon by intel agencies and the Democrats. This never happened before in American history, and it all turned out to be a total scam, a Witch Hunt, that yielded No Collusion, No Obstruction. This must never be allowed to happen again!

Think of it. The Russia investigation was a legitimate investigation, with a legitimate basis, into how a hostile foreign power tried to interfere with and undermine our democracy. It was in the best interests of the nation—in the interests of all Americans, no matter who ...
... they voted for—that this investigation be allowed to proceed to its rightful conclusion, without improper attempts to obstruct it, if only so that we could all know what really happened and take steps to see that it never happens again. But because ...
... you are a malignant narcissist—a person with both narcissistic and antisocial personality disorders—you couldn’t view it that way. Instead of complying with your oath of office, and instead of taking stock of what was in the best interests of ...
... the nation whose Constitution and laws you swore to uphold, you viewed the matter purely in terms of your own ego: You viewed the investigation as casting doubt on what you perceive as your great election victory (in which your opponent garnered ...
... nearly three million more votes than you did), and so you took multiple steps to obstruct, and repeatedly lied about, the investigation from the outset. Even today, despite the well-founded assessments of the intelligence community, and despite the ...
... damning evidence laid out in the Mueller report, you refuse to take what the Russians did seriously. Instead, you continue to lie, calling the investigation a “hoax” and an “attempted coup,” and you didn’t even mention Russia’s ...
... conduct in your recent 90-minute conversation with Putin, the man who seeks to undermine our institutions. Put simply, you put your own perceptions of your self-interest above the national interest, which you seem unable to comprehend or respect. ...
... That is your greatest offense against the country, an offense that incorporates but vastly exceeds the statutory crimes you’ve committed. It is the ultimate high crime or misdemeanor under the Constitution, and under the Framers’ wise design, ...
... it is an offense for which you should pay with your office, regardless of whether you are ultimately brought to justice in the courts of law.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Think of it ... [TIMELINE] ...

The FBI, CIA, NSA were investigating (some say attempting entrapment of) the Trump campaign IN REAL TIME, for collusion* with Russia

And yet, despite all of the cyber and humint resources at their disposal, they could come up with no evidence of collusion* during the campaign

And despite working on this dry well of realtime counterintelligence for months, they decided to launch ANOTHER investigation into the very same matter after the election, this time with Mueller.

Again, they came up with nothing.

But crazed people are still beating this dead hoax.

Meanwhile, Barr is launching an investigation into the investigation.

I hope he burns all those anti-democracy deep-state traitors. That would be ONE good outcome of that clusterfuck!

Meanwhile, I'm a lot more worried about Trump's neocon foreign policy than I am about this nonsense, or his tax returns, and you should be too.

Judge orders public release of what Michael Flynn said in call to Russian ambassador

A federal judge on Thursday ordered that prosecutors make public a transcript of a phone call that former national security adviser Michael Flynn tried hard to hide with a lie: his conversation with a Russian ambassador in late 2016.

U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan in Washington ordered the government also to provide a public transcript of a November 2017 voice mail involving Flynn. In that sensitive call, President Trump’s attorney left a message for Flynn’s attorney reminding him of the president’s fondness for Flynn at a time when Flynn was considering cooperating with federal investigators.

In one of the unredacted filings released Thursday, prosecutors said Flynn described multiple episodes in which “he or his attorneys received communications from persons connected to the Administration or Congress that could have affected both his willingness to cooperate and the completeness of that cooperation.”

In addition to the transcripts, it also is possible that the judge may release the audio recordings of the conversations. In his Thursday order, Sullivan directed that the government provide a copy of those recordings to him in his chambers, along with any other calls Flynn made to the Russians, so he can review them.

Michael Flynn told Mueller's team White House, congressional officials tried to influence his cooperation

Washington -- Former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn told the special counsel's office that people connected to the Trump administration and Congress sought to influence his cooperation with the Russia investigation, and he provided a voicemail recording of one such communication, prosecutors said in a court filing made public Thursday.

Do let me know what was in those million dollar speeches that Hillary gave to the likes of Goldman Sachs, will you?

She got more money than Trump and a million times smarter. Hell, she got dead brain cells that have more life than that idiot.

Beats the fuck outta me. Of course, she didn't have the Russian hockey team in her corner. Now that was a "smart" treasonous move on Donnie's part.

I don't remember reading about her Billion Dollar grass-roots kickstarter campaign funded by small donors.

Ya got me there, cause neither have I. (that's one point for the Trump cult).

This was fun. Let's do it again soon.
