I always wondered about that ... what about Hillarity? She didn't just intend to get dirt for the election from foreigners, there's an official whole DNC bought and paid for report in the hands of the intelligence agencies, Congress, and who knows where all else in the bowels of government. Yanno, the 'Steele' thing.

I know the Hillarity aspect used to be brought up occasionally, only to be quickly brushed away - 'well, SHE's not president'. No one ever asked the question why that didn't make a difference.

And now it looks like Obama had a hand in foreign-assisted campaign dirt-digging.

I truly hope there's a very broad investigation into everyone involved - Americans from both parties and foreigners alike. Justice has to be equal and impartial to be just.

Republicans are claiming Hillary Clinton’s campaign did something similar by commissioning a firm that hired a former British spy, Christopher Steele. It is not similar. The Republicans are wrong because the huge difference is that Steele got paid hundreds of thousands of dollars. Oh, and the Democrats didn’t lie about it, like Trump did about the Russians’ help/work/hack/steal on his campaign.

“I would not have thought I needed to say this,” Federal Election Commission head Ellen Weintraub tweeted regarding a statement she’d issued outlining why it’s illegal for US political candidates to accept contributions from foreign governments.

“Let me make something 100% clear to the American public and anyone running for public office: It is illegal for any person to solicit, accept, or receive anything of value from a foreign national in connection with a U.S. election.”

“This is not a novel concept,” she wrote. “Election intervention from foreign governments has been considered unacceptable since the founding of our nation.”

“It is illegal for any person to solicit, accept, or receive anything of value from a foreign national in connection with a U.S. election.”

And when it comes to foreign influence, the law is clear: As Weintraub wrote, it is “illegal for any person to solicit, accept, or receive anything of value from a foreign national in connection with a U.S. election.”

In most cases, what this means is pretty obvious: Foreign nationals can’t donate money to a presidential campaign. It’s also illegal for candidates themselves to solicit or receive monetary contributions from foreign nationals.

But while a “thing of value” is easy to define when it comes to money, or even services or in-kind contributions, it’s a lot more complicated when it comes to something like opposition research, or so-called campaign dirt.

“Campaign-relevant information from a foreign national definitely can be an illegal in-kind contribution, but it gets trickier when the information does not have obvious cash value and isn’t necessarily something that a campaign regularly needs to buy,” wrote Michael Kang, a law professor at Northwestern University. “The policy concern is that any valuable advice or tip from a foreign national could, at least in theory, become an illegal in-kind contribution.”

Trump has had two Attorney Generals and one acting Attorney General, and two heads of the FBI and one acting head of the FBI, but none of them have indicted Hillary. I welcome Attorney General Barr indicting Hillary, yet he just can't seem to get around to it. Who knows why? Maybe because he has got nothing?

Trump isn’t a president, he’s a gangster.
Russia, if you’re listening, La Cosa Nostra has moved into La Casa Bianca.

The FBI had to wiretap mafia bosses like John Gotti and Vincent “The Chin” Gigante to catch them breaking the law. All they had to do to catch Donald Trump on Wednesday night was turn on ABC News. Trump proceeded to commit multiple felonies out in the open on national television when he told George Stephanopoulos he would be happy to accept dirt on his opponent from foreign governments in his 2020 re-election campaign.

Trump looked like he’d been gobbling Adderall. His pupils were pinned, and he kept doing that thing with his hands, holding them in front of himself and moving them apart and then together impatiently, talking to Stephanopoulos like he was a school child just learning about politics rather than the seasoned operative he is (Stephanopoulos was one of the architects of the Bill Clinton campaign when he won the presidency in 1992 and has covered political campaigns as a reporter and news anchor in the decades since then).

But perhaps Trump was right. Maybe Stephanopoulos needs a good talking to from the Capo du tutti capo on Pennsylvania Avenue. Doesn’t George get it that politicians are no different from gangsters? They don’t go to the FBI and turn each other in. They don’t report crimes. They commit them, and they keep their mouths shut.

What??? You're saying that it's "better" because Hillary PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR THE FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE?

Dood, can you please explain to me why that's "better"?

Maybe you don't remember the conclusion in the Mueller Report? It said ... NO COLLUSION.

Dood, you're brain-damaged. You're like the Alzheimer's patient who can't absorb new information, forming ever-more bizarre theories about why things happend that they can't realistically explain. Like the elderly woman I met who told me that strangers come into her house and shoot blue string all over her bedroom, because she doesn't remember how it got there.

That's called "confabulation", which is a fancy term for "making up stories to explain things after the fact". I SAID you'd spend the next 15 posts ... or maybe 1500 posts, come to think of it ... confabulating, and here you are .... confabulating.

Putin did not pretend to have amnesia. He didn’t respond at all to questions from Mueller. That was okay with Mueller, who shrugged it off, concluding that he couldn’t prove Trump and Putin had sex. Then Mueller indicted Russians working for Putin. But Mueller couldn’t prove that Trump’s orders to those Russians were accurately relayed by Putin, since Putin won’t speak to Mueller. Therefore: "No Collusion, Complete Exoneration" to quote Trump.

Nobody has looked at criminally prosecuting Trump's tax evasion, either. We know he is doing it, but he has not been criminally prosecuted/facing a jail sentence even once in his life. It is unsurprising that Hillary is not being criminally prosecuted, either, because there is less on her than on Trump. www.ais-cpa.com/tax-fraud-by-the-numbers-the-trump-timeline/

You didn't have anything to say, did you Signym? But you had to protect Trump without openly endorsing him and without saying you are a Republican.

At this point, the plan is for Muelller to testify in public before the House Judiciary Committee for two hours or more, followed by another two hours-plus of testimony before the House Intelligence Committee in an open setting.

The House Judiciary Committee voted along party lines Thursday to authorize subpoenas for a slew of high-profile individuals associated with President Trump as part of the panel’s investigation into obstruction of justice and other alleged abuses by the president -- as Republicans decried what they called a "subpoena binge."

The 21-12 vote followed a tense committee meeting, where lawmakers clashed over the ever-escalating probe into the Trump administration as well as the format for former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s scheduled testimony before the panel next week.

When will the Mueller Witch Hunt Fishing Expedition be over?

Maybe Mueller can resign, or something.

Today word leaked that House Dems say Mueller will testify, but no GOP House members will be allowed to ask questions while he is under oath, only softball and sandbox questions from Dems. But then during negotiations to arrange for Mueller to testify it was allowed that all House Committee members would be allowed to ask questions while he was under oath, and Dems refused to grant permission for him to testify.

The House Judiciary Committee is negotiating with special counsel Robert Mueller's team to delay his long-awaited public testimony one week until July 24 to allow more time for Mueller to testify, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The agreement to delay the hearings in exchange for extended testimony is not finalized, the sources said.

Mueller has been scheduled to appear on July 17 before the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees in back-to-back sessions where 22 members from each committee would get to question the special counsel.

But the plan sparked an uproar from members on the Judiciary Committee in both parties over the limited time (2 hours) the special counsel was expected to testify, which would have shut out roughly half the panel from asking questions of Mueller.

Why Democrats’ oversight machine is moving so slowly against Trump
www.politico.com/story/2019/07/17/democrats-oversight-strategy-mueller
-1417908

House Democrats have kicked and screamed about the White House’s refusal to allow key Trump officials to come before Congress. But they haven’t done the one thing they can do to force the issue: Go to court. Lawmakers say they are building a record of White House resistance to testimony from Mueller witnesses.

Last month, Judiciary Chair Jerry Nadler told POLITICO that the House would be quickly going to court to secure testimony from McGahn, one of Mueller’s central witnesses who described Trump’s efforts to thwart the special counsel’s probe.

That lawsuit has yet to be filed, but Democratic committee members said they expect to go to court by the end of the month — likely after Mueller testifies before the Judiciary and Intelligence committees on July 24.

Nadler has projected confidence about the prospects of winning the McGahn suit and says it may even benefit from the slower approach. He argues subsequent questioning of witnesses like Hicks and McGahn’s deputy, Annie Donaldson, who acquiesced to the White House’s directives that they not answer questions about their tenure in the West Wing, can pad the committee’s record and bolster its case when it ultimately sues to force McGahn’s testimony.

“It’s very useful to show the judge what this means in practical reality … what an incredible assertion of executive supremacy and of congressional irrelevance,” Nadler said.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Maybe the reason why the Democrat's oversight is moving so slowly is because Mueller'sreport has been found to be a web of lies? Even Mueller's "case" againt Russian meddling in the USA election has proved to be a pile of dogshit, which falls apart when challenged in court:

Quote:

Don’t look now, but a federal judge in Washington, D.C., has just shut down half of Robert Mueller’s Russian-interference case.

In February 2018, the special prosecutor indicted a St. Petersburg troll farm called the Internet Research Agency along with two other companies, their owner, Yevgeniy Prigozhin, and 12 employees. The charge: fraud, traveling to the United States under false pretenses, and using social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter to “sow discord” and “interfere in US political and electoral processes without detection of their Russian affiliation.”

The charge was both legally dubious and heavy-handed, a case of using a sledge hammer to swat a fly. But Mueller went even further in his report, an expurgated version of which was made public in April. No longer just a Russian company, the IRA was now an arm of the Russian government. “[T]he Special Counsel’s investigation,” it declared on page one, “established that Russia interfered in the 2016 election principally through two operations. First, a Russian entity carried out a social media campaign that favored presidential candidate Donald J. Trump and disparaged presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Second, a Russian intelligence service conducted computer-intrusion operations against entities, employees, and volunteers working in the Clinton campaign and then released stolen documents.”

“Prigozhin,” the report added, referring to the IRA owner, “is widely reported to have ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.” A few pages later, it said that the IRA’s efforts “constituted ‘active measures’ … a term that typically refers to operations conducted by Russian security services aimed at influencing the course of international affairs.”

Thus,

according to Mueller
Quote:

the IRA played a major role in the vast Kremlin conspiracy to alter the outcome of the 2016 election and install Donald Trump in office. But now Judge Dabney Friedrich has ordered Mueller to stop pushing such stories because they’re unfair to Concord Management and Consulting, another Prigozhin company, which astonished the legal world in May 2018 by hiring an expensive Washington law firm and demanding its day in court.

... It’s a case of trial by press clip that should have been laughed out of court – and now, more or less, it is. Without the IRA, the only argument left in Mueller’s brief is that Russia stole some 28,000 emails and other electronic documents from Democratic National Committee computers and then passed them along to WikiLeaks, which published them to great fanfare in July 2016.

But as Consortium News pointed out the day the Mueller report came out, that’s dubious as well. [See “The ‘Guccifer 2.0’ Gaps in Mueller’s Full Report,” April 18.] The reason: it rests on a timeline that doesn’t make sense:

June 12, 2016: WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange announces that “leaks in relation to Hillary Clinton” were on the way.
June 15: Guccifer 2.0, allegedly a stand-in for Russian military intelligence, goes on line to claim credit for the hack.
June 22: Guccifer and WikiLeaks establish contact.
July 14: Guccifer sends WikiLeaks an encrypted file.
July 18: WikiLeaks confirms that it’s opened it up.
July 22: The group releases a giant email cache indicating that the DNC rigged the nominating process in favor of Hillary Clinton and against Bernie Sanders.

But why would Assange announce the leaked emails on June 12 before hearing from the source on June 22? Was he clairvoyant? Why would he release a massive file just eight days after

supposedly, allegedly
Quote:

receiving it and as a little as four days after opening it up? How could that be enough time to review the contents and ensure they were genuine? “If a single one of those emails had been shown to be maliciously altered,” blogger Mark F. McCarty points out, “WikiLeaks’s reputation would have been in tatters.” Quite right. So if Mueller’s chronology doesn’t hold up, then Assange’s original statement that “our source is not the Russian government and it is not a state party” still stands – which it plainly does.

Bottom line: Russiagate is going up in smoke. The claim that Russian military intelligence fed thousands of emails to WikiLeaks doesn’t stand up to scrutiny while Mueller is not only unable to a prove a connection between the Internet Research Agency and the Kremlin but is barred from even discussing it, according to Friedrich’s ruling, without risking a charge of contempt. After 22 months of investigating the ins and outs of Russian interference, Mueller seems to have finally come up dry.

Since this is a recent ruling the committee will probably delay Mueller's appearance in order to rewrite their questions because Mueller BY COURT ORDER can't even talk about the IRA's alleged Kremlin connection, or else he'll be found in contempt.

But yeah, by all means ... CLING! Cling with all your might to that piece of debris that's going to pull you down!

Mueller indicted the IRA (Moscow based Internet Research Agency) and insinuated that it had a direct link to the Kremlin. I'm sure Mueller didn't even expect them to show up in court.

Well, the owner of the IRA hired a high performance Washington atty to represent then, and when they showed up in court to answer the indictment, Mueller bobbled, first asking for a delay because they hadn't been properly served, then asking to hide the evidence against the accused because of national security concerns. The presiding judge didn't look too kindly on these shenanigans, and also ruled that Mueller must stop insinuating that the IRA had Kremlin connections, so Mueller can no longer talk about a vital part of his report, by court order, to Congress

So, did a judge issue a gag order on this? Yes, or no?

Ask Mueller. He will know the answer. Signym, the indictment you're whining about is www.documentcloud.org/documents/4380480-Mueller-Russia-Indictment.html

Years will pass between the crime and a conviction. Or no conviction. Or charges dropped. Just for one example: Charges against Kevin Spacey were dropped today 3 years after the incident. Did the crime ever happen? We will never know for sure. Maybe Spacey really is innocent. Maybe his prosecution was a travesty of injustice. Or maybe not.
www.cnn.com/2019/07/17/us/kevin-spacey-charge-dropped/index.html

Another example from today: El Chapo Guzmán was sentenced. It only required 10 years of legal work to get to this point. With the "presumed innocent until proven guilty" mantra, was he innocent until sentencing? Completely! Obviously! El Chapo complained at his sentencing about the unfairness of his treatment, the injustice of it all. He will appeal. Or he might escape from prison, for the 3rd time.

I'm sure Russia can wage a better legal war against American judiciary unfairness than El Chapo and his lawyers or Kevin Spacey and his lawyers could. The Russians might be able to stall the process for 10 years. Or even get all charges dropped after 3 years. Who knows with the highly inefficient and completely erratic American Court system?

I truly hope there's a very broad investigation into everyone involved - Americans from both parties and foreigners alike. Justice has to be equal and impartial to be just.

Mueller probe witness now faces child sex trafficking charge

An indictment made public Friday in federal court in Alexandria charges Lebanese-American businessman George Nader, 60, with transporting a 14-year-old boy from Europe to Washington, D.C., in February 2000 and engaging in sex acts with him.

Nader's name shows up more than 100 times in Mueller's report. It details his efforts to serve as liaison between a Russian banker close to Russian President Vladimir Putin and members of President Donald Trump's transition team.

The majority of Democrats know it is better to let Trump run things than to have V.P. Mike Pence, who knows what he is doing, promoted to President. The saving grace of Donald Trump as president is his incompetence. He knows almost nothing of how the federal government works. He seems to have been repeatedly surprised by the checks and balances written into the Constitution by the Founding Fathers. And he seems uninterested in learning.

Effectively, we have no president. Rather, we have someone who plays the president on television and on Twitter. Aside from a few of his pet subjects, such as immigration, Trump seems to have almost no effect on the workings of the federal government. What we have seen is a demonstration that government is actually a fairly robust establishment even without a president.

The less control the GOP has over the federal government, the better. Think of it this way: Which would be more dangerous, a Mafia family overseen by the cruel and competent Michael Corleone, or one led by his ineffectual brother Fredo? So, I say, Let Donald be Fredo, since Pence is Michael Corleone.

Pence: not a crook, not a tax cheater, not a liar, not a racist, and not an incompetent administrator. Trump: the opposite of Pence. Which would be a more effective Presidential candidate in 2020? Pence. Most House members know this, except for some of the dumbest Democratic Representatives. Besides, there are 53 Republicans in the Senate who won't retire Trump and switch to Pence in the White House.

Ukrainian officials and Giuliani are sharing back-channel campaign information

Two operatives reporting to President Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani established a back channel between him and Ukrainian officials, according to a BuzzFeed News report.

Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman met with top figures in Ukraine and set up meetings for Giuliani in an attempt to gather information to use in the 2020 presidential election, according to the publication.

Their activities included pushing Ukrainian prosecutors to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, who is the current front-runner in the Democratic primary. The report also says that Ukrainian officials planned to intercede on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's behalf in the 2016 election by leaking information on Trump's then-campaign chairman, Paul Manafort.

After Mueller requested that DOJ provide a written letter outlining what he can and cannot testify about, DOJ conformed to his request and provided a letter with detailed range of topics allowed.

Now Mueller and House Democraps are conspiring, practicing, crafting behind closed doors to generate believable lies, yet deniability, when Mueller is exposed to perjury traps himself. He even needs to hav4e a bypass relief for when he needs to tell a lie, so he requested that his lawyer ?Zembly? be sworn in and allowed to testify on his behalf, when he wants to tell a lie to Congress but needs further deniability.

Yesterday, Trump gave a speech at the Turning Point conference where he said, “I have an Article II where I have the right to do whatever I want as president.” But what was this all about? What was the context?

It turns out that Trump was freewheeling about the Mueller report, telling the rapt audience that Mueller interviewed 500 people, issued 2,500 subpoenas, etc:

"They did everything. The collusion, no collusion, they have no collusion. Then I have an Article II where I have the right to do whatever I want as president, but I don’t even talk about that. Because they did a report, and there was no obstruction. After looking at it — our great attorney general read it, he’s a total professional — he said there’s nothing here, there’s no obstruction."

I assume he was referring to the fact that he’s allowed to fire executive branch officers if he wants to. In other words, firing James Comey was within his Article II powers, so it can’t represent obstruction of justice. Likewise, he could have fired Mueller if he’d wanted to.

Here’s all the evidence of obstruction of justice in the Mueller report, in case you forgot
https://qz.com/1670783/all-the-evidence-of-obstruction-of-justice-in-m
uellers-report
/

When former special counsel Robert Mueller testifies on July 24 before the House Judiciary Committee, he will be answering questions about whether the US president obstructed justice by thwarting Mueller’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential elections. Let’s brush up on the evidence ahead of his testimony, which may well determine whether American representatives will move to impeach president Donald Trump.

The report on the investigation was divided into two parts. The portion on obstruction of justice discusses Trump’s efforts to prevent and influence Mueller’s inquiry. It expressly states that special counsel was unable to charge Trump for technical reasons but couldn’t clear the president substantively, based on the evidence.

These are the findings, delivered to the Department of Justice (DOJ) in March and released publicly in April, which lawmakers will be questioning the investigator about:

1) Trump’s two faces

Trump publicly expressed skepticism that Russia was responsible for the WikiLeaks release of hacked Democratic National Committee documents during the 2016 presidential campaign, yet privately sought information about future releases.
He also denied having any business in Russia, despite pursuing a licensing deal for a skyscraper called Trump Tower Moscow up to June 2016.
After the election, he privately expressed concern that Russia’s interference could cause the public to question his presidency’s legitimacy.

2) Presidential pressure

During a meeting with vice president Mike Pence in January 2017, incoming national security advisor Michael Flynn denied having talked to Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak about election interference. Aware of Flynn’s lie, Trump invited FBI director James Comey to twice meet in private, first seeking his loyalty, and next asking that he drop any investigation of Flynn.

3) Seeking protection

In February 2017, attorney general Jeff Sessions was considering recusing himself from election-related investigations because of his role in Trump’s campaign. The president instructed White House counsel Don McGahn to stop Sessions from recusing himself.
He was angry that Sessions disobeyed, telling advisors his attorney general should “protect” him.
Trump urged Sessions to “un-recuse” himself.
The president contacted US intelligence agency leaders, asking them to publicly dispel any suggestion that he was connected to the Russian interference.
He called FBI chief Comey again, requesting that he “lift the cloud” by stating that the president wasn’t being investigated personally.

4) Terminating troublemakers

In a May 2017 congressional hearing Comey declined to answer questions about whether the president was personally under investigation. Trump fired Comey, first claiming publicly that the termination was based on his mishandling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation.
Yet Trump told Russian officials that he had “faced great pressure because of Russia,” which had been “taken off” by Comey’s firing.
Trump subsequently admitted in an interview that he’d planned to dump the FBI head because “this thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story.”

5) Undermining Mueller

Special counsel was appointed in May 2017. Trump predicted to advisors that it would be “the end of his presidency.”
He told aides that Mueller had conflicts of interest that barred him from serving, though the claim had already been dismissed as merit-less by the DOJ.
When the media reported in June that the president was being investigated for obstructing justice, Trump criticized the probe and DOJ in a series of tweets.
He then directed White House counsel Don McGahn to pressure the DOJ about Mueller’s alleged conflicts of interest, but McGahn declined.

6) Attempts to control the investigation

The president in May 2017 met with Corey Lewandowski, a private advisor, directing him to tell Sessions to publicly announce that the Russia investigation was “very unfair” to the president, who had done nothing wrong.
Soon after, Trump criticized Sessions in an interview with the New York Times and in tweets, making it clear that the attorney general’s job was in jeopardy.
Lewandowski then asked senior White House official Rick Dearborn to deliver Trump’s message to Sessions, but Dearborn ultimately did not.

7) Presidential editing

In the summer of 2017, Trump learned that reporters were inquiring into a 2016 meeting between senior campaign officials, including his son, Donald Trump Jr., and a Russian lawyer allegedly offering damaging information about Hillary Clinton.
Trump directed aides not to disclose the emails setting up the meeting.
Before the emails became public, Trump edited his son’s statement, deleting a line acknowledging that the meeting was with “an individual who…might have information helpful to the campaign.” The president instead claimed they met to discuss adoptions of Russian children.
When reporters questioned Trump’s involvement in writing his son’s statement, his personal lawyer repeatedly denied it.

8) Pressure for protection

In early summer 2017, Trump called Sessions, again urging him to reverse his recusal from the Russia investigation. Sessions declined.
In October, Trump met with Sessions privately to ask him to investigate Hillary Clinton.
Two months later, in another meeting, Trump suggested again that Sessions “un-recuse” himself and supervise the Russia investigation, saying he’d be a “hero.” Trump said, “I’m not going to do anything or direct you to do anything. I just want to be treated fairly.” Sessions again declined.

9) Falsifying the record

In early 2018, journalists reported that Trump had earlier directed McGahn to have Mueller removed from the investigation, and that the White House counsel had threatened to resign rather than carry out the order. Trump told officials to tell McGahn to dispute the story and create a false record.
McGahn confirmed the accuracy of the reports.
Trump then met with McGahn personally, pressuring him to deny what happened.

10) Seeking secret information

After Flynn began cooperating with Mueller’s probe, Trump’s personal counsel called his attorneys asking for a “heads-up” if they learned of “information that implicates the president.”
When Flynn’s lawyers said they could not share data, Trump’s attorney threatened that he’d let the president know of Flynn’s “hostility.”
In contrast, when his former campaign manager Paul Manafort was on trial, Trump publicly praised Manafort and teased a presidential pardon. After Manafort was convicted, Trump said he was “a brave man” for refusing to “break.”

11) Flipping on Cohen

From September 2015 to June 2016, Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen pursued the Trump Tower Moscow project and briefed him on it repeatedly.
In 2017, Cohen lied to Congress about the project after Trump’s counsel told him to “stay on message” and not contradict the president.
In April 2018, the FBI searched Cohen’s home and office. Trump publicly asserted that Cohen wouldn’t “flip” and contacted him to say “stay strong.”
Cohen discussed a future presidential pardon with Trump’s personal counsel.
But after Cohen began cooperating with Mueller’s inquiry in the summer of 2018, Trump publicly called him a “rat.”

Drawing conclusions

Politicians will likely be hoping to hear Mueller’s assessment of whether all this activity adds up to a crime. But he’s said before and will no doubt say again that he has no intention of elaborating on the report. Ultimately, lawmakers will have to decide what to do with the evidence he has presented, if anything at all.
