Pompeo Gets Drawn Deeper—Way Deeper—Into the Ukraine Scandal

Whatever hope Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had of staying in the background of the House Democratic impeachment inquiry evaporated under the heat of Amb. William Taylor’s damning deposition. House Democrats are now redoubling their efforts at pulling Pompeo deeper into an impeachment inquiry the secretary has met with defiance.

Trump’s War on the ‘Deep State’ Turns Against Him

WASHINGTON — Nameless, faceless and voiceless, the C.I.A. officer who first triggered the greatest threat to President Trump’s tenure in office seemed to be practically the embodiment of the “deep state” that the president has long accused of trying to take him down.

But over the last three weeks, the deep state has emerged from the shadows in the form of real live government officials, past and present, who have defied a White House attempt to block cooperation with House impeachment investigators and provided evidence that largely backs up the still-anonymous whistle-blower.

With the investigation going badly for Trump, House Republicans attack the investigators.

A couple dozen far-right Republicans, many of whom had met with the president the previous day, pulled off a stunt.

Busting into a secure area with smartphones to delay proceedings, get media attention, shout at Schiff, and eat pizza was the president’s allies opposite — but not equal — reaction to Tuesday’s impeachment inquiry.

The motivation for the performance was not a mystery. Taylor’s 15-page testimony on Tuesday had been the most thorough, vivid presentation of the Ukranian “quid pro quo” at the heart of the impeachment inquiry since the transcript of President Donald Trump’s call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was released in late September. It left little room to defend the president’s actions, as laid out by Taylor, on their substance. Since House Republicans are determined to defend the president regardless, that meant they had to work more aggressively on attacking the process.

It is far-far worse: A Brief Ukrainegate Timeline

My point here is not to recap every detail of how Ukrainegate has played out. My point is to show that this was no spur-of-the-moment outburst from President Trump. He’s clearly been obsessed by it for nearly a year, and he’s involved a wide cast of characters: Giulani, Taylor, Sondland, Volker, Mulvaney, Barr, Yovanovitch, Shulkin, Lutsenko, and a number of others.

This is what makes Ukrainegate such a big deal. It would be bad enough if it were just a typical Trump outburst, soon forgotten by all involved. But it wasn’t: it’s been a wide-ranging, year-long effort to extort a foreign country to smear a political opponent. If that’s not impeachable, nothing is.

Judge rules DOJ must turn over Mueller grand jury material to House Democrats

A federal judge on Friday ruled that the Justice Department must turn over former special counsel Robert Mueller's grand jury evidence to the House Judiciary Committee, a groundbreaking victory for Democrats in their effort to investigate whether President Donald Trump should be impeached for obstructing the long-running Russia probe.

In a double victory for Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Judge Beryl Howell — the chief federal judge in Washington — ruled that the impeachment inquiry Democrats have launched is valid even though the House hasn't taken a formal vote on it. The decision rejects arguments by DOJ and congressional Republicans that a formal vote is necessary to launch impeachment proceedings.

Pelosi: Court ruling 'another blow' to President Trump

"Today's ruling in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia is another blow to President Trump's attempt to put himself above the law," Pelosi said in a statement Friday.

"This critical court ruling affirms Congress's authority to expose the truth for the American people," she continued. "Most importantly, the Court recognized the House's right to obtain grand jury information pursuant to its impeachment inquiry."

Even so, they've got years of explaining to do. They helped the president deflect, lie and spin. The courts will continue to reveal Trump guilty of many offences. This is going to go on for years to come. Watch as the trolls here subtly temper their support for Trump. Watch as they try to suggest they knew of his corrupt ways all along.

It's going to be fun to repost all their posts showing how they trolled for him. How they called all the facts that will be laid out and proven true in the courts, as fake news.

The Trump administration has attempted to block a key witness from testifying in the impeachment inquiry by claiming “constitutional immunity.” And that witness — former deputy national security adviser Charles Kupperman — has asked a judge to rule whether his testimony can proceed as planned.

Kupperman made the request in a lawsuit filed Friday; he was set to testify before lawmakers on Monday, after being subpoenaed.

The administration had not previously invoked constitutional immunity, and the decision in Kupperman’s lawsuit could be precedent-setting at a moment in which officials are increasingly caught between directives from the executive and legislative branches that at are, as Kupperman’s lawyer said in a statement, “competing and irreconcilable.”

“Plaintiff obviously cannot satisfy the competing demands of both the legislative and executive branches, and he is aware of no controlling judicial authority definitively establishing which branch’s command should prevail,” the suit reads.

Kupperman’s suit could bring new clarity to the question of what government officials should do when given competing instructions from Congress and the White House.

If both candidates for President are criminals, why change to a different criminal? Go with the man who has the most experience as President. Reelect Trump 2020! Obviously, their crimes are not of equal seriousness, but you are suppose to ignore the difference between a misdemeanor and a felony, because both are crimes. Elsewhere, Signym claims Trump has Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) so Trump cannot know the different levels of criminality, which makes him the better President.

3... 2... 1... to you saying you never were bothered by Biden's kid, just posted the article because it was "interesting."

It is called "negative partisanship." It's not so much that we like our own party as that we detest the other. In fact, Eric Groenendyk, of the University of Memphis, finds evidence that people hate the other party partially because they are disappointed in their own party. "[T]hey appear to be rationalizing continued identification with their party in the face of this ambivalence by reporting even more negative feelings toward the other party," he writes. "In other words, they seem to be engaging in the 'lesser of two evils' identity defense." By protecting their sense of belonging, intense partisan animosity performs what Groenendyk has called 'emotional rescue'. The fevered view of President Obama proffered by people like Dinesh D'Souza may have been absurd, but it did serve the purpose of making every Republican leader look better by comparison. If Donald Trump is the devil incarnate, then you had better support whatever mediocre Democrat is on offer.

In any case, an implication of negative partisanship is that partisans are not so much rallying for a cause or party they believe in as banding together to fight a collective enemy — psychologically and politically a very different kind of proposition, as we see when we look at the literature on what tribalism does to the brain.

www.nationalaffairs.com/publications/detail/rethinking-polarization

The article goes on to say: Fans of opposing sports teams perceive different events in close calls. Fans of opposing political parties perceive different facts and take different policy views depending on which party lines up on which side. Presenting people with facts that challenge an identity- or group-defining opinion does not work; instead of changing their minds, they will often reject the facts and double down on their false beliefs. This is true regardless of educational and cognitive firepower; in fact, super-smart people use their big brains to perform somersaulting rationalizations. "Extreme partisanship may be literally addictive," writes the social psychologist Jonathan Haidt. Partisans who find ways to rationalize their beliefs get a little hit of dopamine. "Like rats that cannot stop pressing a button, partisans may be simply unable to stop believing weird things."

I just want you motherfuckers to admit it too. You couldn't wrap your mind around how crooked Hillary was until far after she lost when it was clear that there was no way she was going to get the "situation" reversed by recounts or delegates or any other means and you threw her under the bus and all started pretending that you didn't like her from the start.

And now you're not going to admit that any of these idiots up on the Democrat stage today are crooked as shit because you've been duped time after time and spent the last three years making every single thing Trump did or said the potential bombshell that was going to get him impeached and you'd have to admit to yourselves how hypocritical you are.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Republicans cannot hide what going on inside their heads. You crave something like WWE wrestling, an us-versus-them, good-versus-evil drama where you can stand on a chair and yell your guts out.

At this point, it probably goes without saying that the themes Trump ran and won on in 2016, and the themes he governs on, are short on philosophical coherence. But they have a deeper psychological coherence. Trump's appeals to ethnic and racial resentment, his portrayals of a country and culture under siege, and his populist demonization of multiple enemies offered Republicans something more appealing than any particular list of policies: They offered solidarity against a threat of Hillary, of Bernie, of Obama, of Mexicans, etc. On this reading, Trump may have secured his initial foothold by catering to the George Wallace portion of the party, but the remainder did not rally to Trump because they embraced his message; they embraced his message in order to rally to Trump. He offered a vivid us-versus-them story that energized one portion of the party, and then, once his followers redefined what "we" (the in-group) believe, the rest of the party preserved its identity by scrambling aboard. Although the result was to reverse Republican orthodoxy on everything from entitlement spending and trade protectionism to global alliances and the FBI, partisans felt no psychological inconsistency or lurch, because, as a result of their ideological somersaults, they continued to be aligned with the same in-group and opposed to the same out-group: those horrible, awful, evil Democrats like Hillary and Obama.

Did you post this with a straight face? because, seriously SLOPPY, you can't stop slagging Republicans long enough to notice that most Dems are just as bad. You're the biggest rah-rah-rah us-versus-them hypocrite here.

Unless I count WISHY, who envisions eradicating most of the world's popuation in spasms of "us versus them-ism" gone wild, or REAVERBOT who openly threatened people, or CC who lies and lies and lies, or SHINY who drunk-posts over-the-top rantings, or all of you collectively who stooped to defamation, personal attack, and bullying; turning what SHOULD HAVE BEEN a reasoned discussion into a cage match. Endless, relentless, hypocritical partisanship/ lying/ identity politics/ virtue-signalling/ bullying from so-called "reasoned" Democrats who can ONLY see "us versus them".

YOU cannot hide what's going on inside your heads. Everybody knows what's going on there. We all do. Except you.

Quote:

Conservatives Are Dumber, and Smarter, Than Liberals
Here's a more muddied red and blue picture of IQ.

Democrats are fond of declaring that those who vote Republican are on the shorter end of the bus. One line of argument goes that Grand Old Partiers are just not bright enough to figure out what's best for the nation, or even themselves. Another insinuates that they lack the faculties to deal with nuanced issues and therefore hold fast to absolutes: ALL fetuses are full people; ALL taxes go to gay crack-addicted single moms on welfare. Indeed, some studies have supported such a simple correlation between political views and intelligence, but new research soon to be published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences paints a more muddied—and interesting—red and blue picture of IQ.

Right there, one could say that Democrats themselves are committing the same sin that they accuse Republicans of ... believing in absolutes. Not only believing in absolutes, but demonstrating the same prejudice, lack of intellect, and hypocrisy as they claim Republicans do.

Quote:

Sociologist Markus Kemmelmeier compared college students' self-professed political views to their SAT and ACT scores (which are imperfect but useful measures of cognitive ability). First, he did find a general trend that social conservatives (those who wanted to ban abortion and gay marriage) weren't as gifted as students with a more progressive take on gender roles. But he found the exact opposite pattern with anti-regulation attitudes: The conservatives/libertarians (yay guns, boo taxes) appeared to be smarter than their commie compatriots.

Kemmelmeier found this crossover "particularly surprising" and emailed me, "It highlights (yet again) that ‘conservatism' is not necessarily a coherent construct, but that you have to distinguish at minimum social conservatism and economic conservatism (libertarianism). If you think about it, Jerry Falwell and Milton Freedman are worlds apart."

Kemmelmeier found another pattern in his data, one supporting the previously-suggested idea that holding unpopular political views demands more cognitive resources ("context theory"). Those with the strongest beliefs, either way-red or way-blue, are smarter than the wishy-washy centrists too confused to stake their own ground. (All of these findings only applied to verbal intelligence. Math skills had no correlation with conservatism.) "I expected to find in some ways more of the same-old, that primarily more liberal views are linked to higher ability levels," Kemmelmeier says. "But, boy, this would be very wrong—at least as a general conclusion."

For his next study, Kemmelmeier got away from surveying elitist college kids. He used intelligence data drawn from the National Assessment of Educational Progress, statistics on the 2004 state-by-state proportions of Democratic lawmakers, and voter turnout rates. States that had higher IQ's also voted more Democrats into office—but only if political involvement was high. In states with low voter turnout, high IQ was correlated with having more Republican lawmakers. What does it all mean? Theorize at will. According to Kemmelmeier, "WHY political involvement moderates the direction of the link between conservatism/liberalism is something that needs to be explored more in the future."

I would say that his findings hold here. YOU rely on social acceptance to support your views, which is why you guys live, read, and think in a bubble, and why you use SOCIAL forces ... you think that bullying, defamation etc is making a point ... you guys couldn't argue a point if your life depended on it. NONE of you has ever been able to respond on-point for more than one sentence (IF THAT) without resorting to personal attack. You're like a stupid junior-high bully-gang.

Did I not tell you that I know hundreds of Trump lovers? Known them for decades. I know their flaws. They can't stop talking about their high moral rectitude, their honesty, their integrity, their magnificent intelligence, their strong work ethic. But whenever they are tested for those sterling qualities they keep claiming to have, they fail the quality assurance tests. The Democrats I know have a much lower failure rate. Just saying. I'm judging Republican and Democrats by my experience and I won't give a passing grade to human failures, no matter how much they plead for forgiveness and whine about how cruel life is to them.

Sounds like you! Seriously, you have claimed over and over again how smart you are, how honest, how morally correct, how much better you are in every way ... everything you just posted applies TO YOU.
Quote:

But whenever they are tested for those sterling qualities they keep claiming to have, they fail the quality assurance tests.- SLOPPY
EVERY test? Have you been there EVERY time? You would have to be God to see them at EVERY ethical test. And since you claim to know, then you obviously think that you're god-like. ANOTHER one of your many flaws!

Quote:

The Democrats I know have a much lower failure rate. Just saying.- SLOPPY
But then you go on to post all the time that that ALL Trump spporters, ALL Republicans are ALL bad. No such thing a "failure rate", you make a very black-and-white judgement about entire categories of people you've never met. Worse, when experience tell you differently you reject experience in favor of belief.

Judging by the Democrats HERE (and that includes you, SLOPPY) you're right up there with all of the dittoheads and assholes on the right. UNLIKE YOU, I don't then go on to tar every single person that I categorize as a "liberal" based on my experience WITH YOU (pl), like you do. I let each person's behavior tell me what kind of person they are, and there really are liberals who are morally consistent, honest and thoughtful ... UNLIKE YOU (pl).

And btw Hillary, Bill, and Obama failed with flying colors, just like GWB and "Pappy" Bush. They were all corrupt as hell, evil slimy people who lied about everything. If you were really concerned about moral qualities you would have rejected them a long time ago.

By their deeds you shall know them

Three veterans who served with Ambassador Bill Taylor, a key witness in the House impeachment inquiry who has come under attack by the President, defended him as a "man of honor," "public servant" and "role model". Trump called Taylor "human scum".

Bill Taylor, by his own testimony, has no firsthand knowledge of events. Every relevant thing he testified to was told to him by someone else. He wasn't in on the phone calls, he wasn't at the meetings, so how the hell would HE know?

It just occurred to me that almost everyone here who claims to be a liberal has become a parody of what they claim to hate,

SLOPPY claims to hate self-righteousness
WISHY claims to hate racism, sexism and authoritarinism
REAVERBOT claims to hate authoritarianism
JO claims to hate irrationality and illogic
CC claims to be reasonable and honest

Hmmm... I'm detecting a pattern here!

Signy, Jack

Are you still posting back and forth with SLOPPY?

I admire your can-do! spirit. But SLOPPY (et al) isn't capable of changing in any way ... because, as many studies suggest, one doesn't simply troll, one IS a troll by nature.

So other than chatting back and forth with people who actually know how to reasonably discuss things, when it comes to SLOPPY (et al) on this website, I personally have better things to do, like stare at the ceiling.

Though, come to think of it, they make interesting real-life examples of how people can go so very mentally wrong.

“He was screaming, crying, and whimpering,” Trump said of Baghdadi. “And he was scared out of his mind.” It’s a line he repeated often, adding that the terrorist leader “died like a dog. He died like a coward.”

“I think it’s something that should be brought out so that his followers and all of these young kids that want to leave various countries, including the United States, they should see how he died,” the president said. “He didn’t die a hero. He died a coward.”

Trump didn't stop talking until he had completely emptied his bowels in front of the World. Read more, and see the video, at "Trump’s Baghdadi press conference shows how he ruins even his best moments"

I look forward to many more years of Trump dumping his guts on TV. It is extremely amusing. I would hate to see his term of office end.
