The president's re-election campaign is threatening legal action against television stations in key battleground states if they continue to air a Priorities USA ad alleging Trump called the coronavirus a hoax

Joe and Bernie are blowing it.

They shoud be on the TV every day telling wut they woud be doing better than Trump about C-19 and the economy. Hammering on Trump's blithering incompetens at every opportunity. Musling in on getting thingz dun.

Remember Obama and McCain in 08? McCain sumtimez looked like he wuz grandstanding, but even so, it wuz better than just sitting on the sidelinez, fading away. Obama came across az the real leader with the intellijens we needed to save our assez.

Now the situation iz way worse, but Biden iz nowhere to be seen, leaving Trump to hog up all the airtime. Bernie iz nowhere to be seen, even tho this iz hiz last chans to beat Joe. Opportunity squandered.

No JO, Bernie needs to drop out. New poll shows Biden beating him by 22 points. At this point in time that's a massacre. We really need to end the primary process now; for many reasons.

2 Top Democratic Groups Form Alliance to Support Joe Biden

WASHINGTON — Two of the most prominent outside Democratic groups are forming a partnership to pool resources and research to help elect former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. this fall, an attempt at consolidating fund-raising in an increasingly competitive marketplace for third-party organizations.

Deval Patrick holding a sign in front of a crowd: Deval Patrick, the former governor of Massachusetts, is now a co-chair of a partnership of Democratic groups supporting Joseph R. Biden Jr.© Courtland Wells for The New York Times Deval Patrick, the former governor of Massachusetts, is now a co-chair of a partnership of Democratic groups supporting Joseph R. Biden Jr.
Unite the Country, the super PAC formed late last year to support Mr. Biden, and the progressive group American Bridge are teaming up to coordinate their efforts in hopes of raising about $175 million together to defeat President Trump in November, leaders from the two groups said Monday.

“It made more sense to raise money together than raise money competing against one another,” said Steve Schale, who helps run Unite the Country.

Sign Up For the Morning Briefing Newsletter

The partnership will be co-chaired by Deval Patrick, the former Massachusetts governor and a late entrant into this year’s presidential race, and former Gov. Jennifer Granholm of Michigan.

“We don’t want redundancy,” said Bradley Beychok, the president of American Bridge, which also counts the longtime Democratic strategists James Carville and Jim Messina as advisers.

While the groups are not merging, and will continue to do some work separately, they are going to coordinate their polling and opposition research while also planning their advertising buys together. The two groups combined have raised over $70 million so far this campaign.

The alliance comes as Mr. Biden has gained a nearly insurmountable lead in the Democratic primary race and the coronavirus outbreak has effectively frozen the campaign. But what has not been put on hold is the jockeying among third-party groups to position themselves with donors as the go-to organization helping to elect the former vice president and defeat Mr. Trump.

A constellation of various Democratic groups have been quietly vying for the favor — and the checks — of major Democratic contributors for months.

The biggest Democratic super PAC from the 2016 cycle, Priorities USA, has operated continuously since then, and announced a $150 million ad budget leading up to the Democratic National Convention.

Just on Friday, the group announced an additional $17 million digital ad buy.

The partnership between American Bridge and Unite the Country represents an attempt to present themselves as this campaign’s leading outside Democratic entity — and to pre-emptively box out Priorities from making that claim.

Allies of both Bridge and Priorities have been pressing Democratic officials to nudge Mr. Biden’s campaign to send a signal about which group it prefers, according to people directly familiar with the conversations.

Yet it’s unclear how Mr. Biden’s campaign views the matter and whether it will signal such a preference. His team is somewhat restricted because campaign finance laws prohibit overt coordination between campaigns and super PACs.

And on Monday, a representative for Mr. Biden declined to say which, if any, of the groups the campaign wanted to see as the main outside organization.

During the primaries, Unite the Country had been the lone major super PAC supporting Mr. Biden.

But after Mr. Biden scored major victories on March 10, top officials at both Priorities and American Bridge — within minutes of each other — tweeted their support for Mr. Biden, declaring him to be the de facto nominee.

“We will be ALL IN to elect @JoeBiden as our next President,” wrote Mr. Beychok, the American Bridge president.

“The math is now clear,” said Guy Cecil, the chairman of Priorities. “Joe Biden is going to be the Democratic nominee.”

The quick announcements were seen, in part, as an effort to ensure their groups’ relevance and alignment with Mr. Biden if the primary dragged on longer, as it has.

(Jonathan Martin reported from Washington, and Shane Goldmacher from New York.)

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Aside from Joe Biden being MIA during this time ...

... I get the sense that the reason why Trump's job approval has been consistently in the high 40's since around March 19, 2020 https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_trump_job_app
roval-6179.html#polls
and betting odds are in his favor https://www.oddsshark.com/politics/2020-usa-presidential-odds-futures is because ...

... about half of everyone doesn't think COVID-19 is a problem. They don't see it in their everyday lives and they don't believe the numbers about which way this can go. They're not first-responders, they don't work in emergency services or healthcare, they don't personally know anyone's who's died of COVID-19, or even been to the hospital for it, or even had it.

When I make my occasional shopping trip with my mask on, and stand in line waiting to get my hands squirted with hand sanitizer and get my cart with the freshly sanitized handle, I always ask around me - what do you think of this whole COVID thing? And everyone has shrugged. They don't think much of it. They think it's overblown. It's AT BEST a pain in the arse, and at worst a serious divot in their finances. (My experience is backed up by polls.)

Yanno, the people behind the meat counter, and behind the fish counter, and the cashiers, seem relieved to be dealing with someone who's wearing a mask and who says they're not infected, just being extra careful because of asthma ... but unless you're being exposed to lots of people every day, you just shrug off the potential presence of the virus as a 'thing' to account for in your life. For about half of everybody, it doesn't register.

Poll: Trump's coronavirus bounce fizzles

The survey, conducted immediately before President Donald Trump announced a 30-day extension of his physical and social distancing guidelines “to slow the spread” of Covid-19, shows 47 percent of voters feel the administration isn’t doing enough in response to the outbreak, greater than the 40 percent who feel the administration is doing the right amount.

Here's a prediction from ZH:

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/us-intelligence-report-accuses-
china-deliberately-underreporting-covid-19-infection

Leaked US Intel Report Accuses China Of Deliberately Lying About Coronavirus Figures

Update (1200ET): Vice President Mike Pence just said during an appearance on CNN that it "would have been better" if China was more forthcoming with the US during the early days of the outbreak, and basically blamed the Chinese for the White House's slow response.

And there you have it, the purpose for this particular leak, is to begin laying out the administration's defense when accosted by critics who accuse Trump of not doing enough early on to combat the virus.

Below are the names of those behind zero hedge. Don't miss what I've highlighted in red below. This folks is why comrade troll SIG loves to quote zero hedge.

In addition, Lokey said he faced constant pressure to frame stories in-line with a particular world-view, which he described as “Russia=good. Obama=idiot. Bashar al-Assad=benevolent leader. John Kerry=dunce. Vladmir Putin=greatest leader in the history of statecraft.”

All of this matches SIG's playbook here and Putin's globally; exactly.

The men behind zero hedge

Colin Lokey, a 32-year-old former Seeking Alpha director

Daniel Ivandjiiski, a 37-year-old Bulgarian-born former hedge fund employee who was barred for insider trading in 2008

Tim Backshall, a 45-year-old credit derivatives strategist
Despite its populist tone, Lokey told Bloomberg he recently left Zero Hedge because he didn’t see eye-to-eye with the others when it came to editorial vision.

“Zero Hedge ceased to serve that public service years ago,” Lokey said. “They care what generates page views. Clicks. Money.”

Lokey claims Zero Hedge’s focus on traffic and revenue is hypocritical, but Ivandjiiski sees things differently.

Finally, Zero Hedge addressed the accusations of systematic bias in its content.

“We are certainly ok with being the object of other’s conspiracy theories, in this case completely false ones since we have never been in contact with anyone in Russia, or the US, or any government for that matter,” Zero Hedge says.

The site claims it has never accepted a dime of funding outside of advertising revenue and that Lokey was never pressured about how to frame his articles or editorialized.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/zero-hedge-unmasked-theres-more-1427301
65.html

According to the Bloomberg article, three men have been churning out all of the content at Zero Hedge, using the joint pseudonym “Tyler Durden” from the Brad Pitt film “Fight Club.” The 1999 cult film, according to Rolling Stone, is “about being young, male and powerless against the pacifying drug of consumerism. It’s about solitude, despair and bottled-up rage.” That ethos is frequently on display at Zero Hedge.

The three “Tyler Durdens” outed by Bloomberg reporters are Colin Lokey, who has now left Zero Hedge in a fit of pique and is responsible for handing over the internal chat sessions from Zero Hedge on traffic-building strategies and other matters. Bloomberg says “the other two men are Daniel Ivandjiiski, 37, the Bulgarian-born former analyst long reputed to be behind the site, and Tim Backshall, 45, a well-known credit derivatives strategist.”

The article notes that “Ivandjiiski has a multimillion-dollar mansion in Mahwah, N.J., and Backshall lives in a plush San Francisco suburb,” suggesting these are “not exactly reflections” of the anti-capitalism reflected in the moniker “Tyler Durden.”

They could be, yanno. If Trump faces election blowback from mishandling the crisis, this could be the groundwork for his 'defense': "The Chinese made me do it.".

Well ... there's only 30% of people who identify as republicans. https://news.gallup.com/poll/15370/party-affiliation.aspx

So with the ~48% approval rating calculated by RealClearPolitics https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_trump_job_app
roval-6179.html
, there's roughly 18% of Trump-approvers who are independents and even democrats.

Not everyone who supports Trump is a Trumptard who's simply so partisan they'll believe anything he says. I do think you 'misunderestimate' Trump's ability to sell his shtick. And also, there's a percentage of people who look around and ask if there's a better choice, or not.

Look, I'd rather have Cuomo at this point because Biden is really old and past it. However don't forget. Biden had been in the Senate for what, thirty years? He has been vice president. He's more than qualitied.

Here's my larger point and It's shared by many. I don't care if rocky raccoon gets the nomination. I'm voting for him. I'd vote for a homeless guy over Trump. Get it? People having concerns are ok but I don't care. So what, vote for Biden or don't complain about what Trump does should he win. Tell your friends to vote for Biden or don't complain if he should lose and Trump continues to be Trump.

Oh yeah. Even if you think Trump to be exciting and Biden boring, Biden beats Trump in the polls and always has.

Soon we'll start seeing ads explaining how Trump disbanded Obama and Biden's pandemic panel in December of 2018. It was put in place to head this shit off before it gets a foothold. It made sure thousands of government employees could work together instantly so red tape would not hold things up. They were also coming up with a needs list of things to stock pile. Not just ppe's but medications as well.

After that Trump tried to cut the budget of the CDC. As his followers really begin to suffer themselves, Trumps numbers will goes down.

US freezes shipments of protective gear overseas

The Trump administration will no longer ship personal protective equipment to allies overseas as the United States grapples with critical shortages of supplies and coronavirus cases continue to soar.

A congressional source told CNN on Wednesday that they were informed late last Friday night that the coronavirus task force -- led by Vice President Mike Pence -- was stopping overseas shipments of the medical equipment and instead asking that the supplies be distributed within the United States.

Biden should not, under any circumstances, pick Harris as his running mate.

He's blowing any chances he might have had if he does.

He's already backed himself into a corner where he can't pick Bernie because it would destroy his campaign overnight and obliterate his female turnout after making a promise he would pick a female VP.

So... No Bernie, bruh. There goes a huge portion of the youth Democrat vote.

Whoopsie.

But Harris has a long history of putting black men behind bars that shouldn't be there and keeping the for-profit prison system full of labor. At this point, I don't think that's a well known fact about her since she was never a very serious contender for President. But if she gets the nod, the entire country will know about it. A lot of the black vote are going to just stay at home.

And then you're left with both low youth turnout and low black turnout.

Isn't identity politics fun?

Uncle Joey knows how fun it is right now.

His only two "legitimate" choices are Klobuchar and Gillibrand.

If he picks either Harris or Warren he is ending his campaign and handing victory Trump as soon as he makes that announcement.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Do you remember when Trump said “only I can fix it”? It is time for him to prove it by ordering the country back to work and back to "Normal". Did you detect the sarcasm?

The Normal Economy Is Never Coming Back

https://web.archive.org/web/20200410200641/https://foreignpolicy.com/2
020/04/09/unemployment-coronavirus-pandemic-normal-economy-is-never-coming-back
/

As the coronavirus lockdown began, the first impulse was to search for historical analogies—1914, 1929, 1941? As the weeks have ground on, what has come ever more to the fore is the historical novelty of the shock that we are living through. As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, America’s economy is now widely expected to shrink by a quarter. That is as much as during the Great Depression. But whereas the contraction after 1929 stretched over a four-year period, the coronavirus implosion will happen over the next three months. There has never been a crash landing like this before. There is something new under the sun. And it is horrifying.

As recently as five weeks ago, at the beginning of March, U.S. unemployment was at record lows. By the end of March, it had surged to somewhere around 13 percent. That is the highest number recorded since World War II. We don’t know the precise figure because our system of unemployment registration was not built to track an increase at this speed. On successive Thursdays, the number of those making initial filings for unemployment insurance has surged first to 3.3 million, then 6.6 million, and now by another 6.6 million. At the current rate, as the economist Justin Wolfers pointed out in the New York Times, U.S. unemployment is rising at nearly 0.5 percent per day. It is no longer unimaginable that the overall unemployment rate could reach 30 percent by the summer.

Thursday’s news confirms that the Western economies face a far deeper and more savage economic shock than they have ever previously experienced. Regular business cycles generally start with the more volatile sectors of the economy—real estate and construction, for instance, or heavy engineering that depends on business investment—or sectors that are subject to global competition, such as the motor vehicles industry. In total, those sectors employ less than a quarter of the workforce. The concentrated downturn in those sectors transmits to the rest of the economy as a muffled shock.

The coronavirus lockdown directly affects services—retail, real estate, education, entertainment, restaurants—where 80 percent of Americans work today. Thus the result is immediate and catastrophic. In sectors like retail, which has recently come under fierce pressure from online competition, the temporary lockdown may prove to be terminal. In many cases, the stores that shut down in early March will not reopen. The jobs will be permanently lost. Millions of Americans and their families are facing catastrophe.

You do realize that the same people who voted for Trump will be energized to vote for him again by this song. It powerfully reassures them that he can really do what he says, if only those Democrats and the media would stop nay-saying. I would believe, too, but only if Trump successfully orders America back to work, back to normal. He doesn't have the courage to give those orders. He sure won't take responsibility for the deaths that follow. Not my responsibility he has said.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I just want to point out how seriously America has become a service economy. All those non-essential jobs? They're non-essential service work like wait-staffing, car-driving, cold-calling etc ... and gig work. They're make-work.

Covid-19 has revealed a lot of the booby-traps of our economy. Aside from moving our production overseas, long supply chains, and the fragility of 'just-in-time' thinking, the hollowness of our infrastructure, and the literal bankruptcy of the financial system, it's revealed the irrelevance of many jobs. That's what COVID-19 has revealed.

Yup. No shit, sherlock.

You like digging up old posts. Why don't you dig up the one we had a year or two ago where we were discussing overpopulation and I was saying exactly that. I didn't need a fake media driven panic over a hardly dangerous virus to tell me that.

Not only are there already far too many people for the planet to provide for, but most of our existences are merely superfluous to boot.

Nothing has changed now except for the fact that our current circumstances have clued a bunch of idiots into the truth that I've already known for a long time.

And yanno what? If you and I notice it here, how many of the big brains and powerful people at the top of the food chain that look at us as nothing but numbers have noticed it too?

And?

It would be nice if you could follow a train of thought without jumping the tracks.

The US isn't a service economy BECAUSE there are too many people in the US. The US isn't a service economy BECAUSE there are too many people on the planet. COVID-19 has nothing at all to do with the US being a service economy except the virus put the number of already existing non-essential jobs in the spotlight. The lack of productive jobs in the US economy doesn't make people superfluous, there certainly is more than enough productive work that needs to be done. And the overpopulation 'truth' that you've recently clued into has been thought about, known about, talked about, written about, and read about by millions of people since 1798, making your insight minuscule and rather late, and you not very special.

That's the point, Princess.

Very, very few people are special.

Those that will institute Agenda 2030 probably will not agree with your idea that people without jobs to do aren't superfluous. They certainly aren't going to start paying everyone without jobs $600 per week to do nothing for long either.
