42% of Americans report undesired weight gain during Covid 19. The average weight gain is 29lbs; 41lbs for Millennials.

78% of Covid 19 patients hospitalized in the US overweight or obese, CDC finds.

Krispy Kreme offers anyone who shows their vaccination card a free OG glazed donut.

CDC says that 2020 will be the single deadliest year for Opioid overdose, reversing a slight two year dip in cases after 7 straight years of increase.

60% of Americans report increased drinking during the lockdowns, with 1/3rd of them reporting binge drinking.

Suicide numbers aren't in yet, but are feared by many experts to dramatically exceed 2019.

Social isolation, particularly among kids, has costs that won't be known for a long time.

Lockdowns perhaps came too late

The only way to respond was probably the way Oceania, Korea Strait, Sea of Japan Pacific Ocean nations did the nations here got it right, treat it serious, clean your streets, bleach and wash down everything dirty, have some kind of mask guide line or distancing guides isolate the sick and lock it down early...otherwise it spreads like wildfire.
There have been warnings of animals flus before and previous virus like SARS, MERS, the issue this time was the whole of the broadcast system, the Western media was too focused on Brexit or Trump's tweets to see it coming

The problem was most of the Health Care systems in the West were failing, if our medicine and health was so great then why do American's travel to Cuba for surgery, why do they buy their medication across the border in Canada, why do French and British people travel to Spain for their pills then stuff their suitcase full of medicines, Western Health systems were dying the Covid Grim Reaper just arrived early and pushed it all over the edge

Costs will be MASSIVE

one issue is how each nation responded, Americans generally have rights which involve freedoms of movement, rights that allow you to talk to protest to worship and Freedom of Speech, rights that prevent unwarranted searches and these are good things. Rights for people on this planet are not always the same, some Ex-Dictatorship in parts of Asia or ex-Dictatorship in Europe that's not an issue, the government can Lockdown, stop movements crush the spread of the virus and I guess at the same time perhaps ' temporarily ' crush the rights of the peoples.

The United states of America is not a single voice, it is politically schizo even at the best of times with only two parties speaking the political back and forth is insane at the best of time. Is a multi culture of voices or one good leader and one voice better? yet what happens when Covid takes places with some kind of homogeneous politics and Corona is stopped by a mono-culture, they can lock it all down South Korea, Norway, Australia, Japan, Iceland, New Zealand or say a more strict 'dictatorship' style nation in Asia or Europe can lock it down... I don't think their government lockdown policy would be welcome in America. I dont think even a softer Oceania style lockdown would fly in the United States the USA likes its freedoms more.
'Singapore' may be an example of a multi-cultural mixed people nation doing well but if you meet people from Singapore they are very Singapore even the Ex-Pats and the military has a big role inside the country

The other option that was kind of tried out was 'herd immunity' keep things open, some business will survive, everyone gets over the new Corona flu and becomes immune to any Covid mutation.... that was the plan ... the British, Sweden, the USA sort of tried this. It turned out to be a disaster, Swedish then flipped the Prime Minister Stefan Lofven announced a reduction in the limit on public gatherings from 50 people to eight, citing lack of voluntary compliance with health recommendations to the public. Sweden had no real solution to protect the vulnerable, the older, the sickly from the rest of the population who you've decided to let get infected. If you don't have that, Sweden's entire model falls apart as a consideration....very much like the nursing home disaster in NYC
Once its inside its too late the damage is already done to the economy, after this its Politically a mess its damned if you do and dammed if you don't

The Hollywood studios the big guys already lost $20 billion, they will probably lose 160 + Billion, these films are linked to hundreds of other jobs down the food chain. the only guys making big money now are the guys selling Kroger, Wallmart, Costco, the French stores Intermarché , the online shipper Amazon, Sainsbury's, Carrefour Italia, Aldi, Netflix, Xbox, Sony Playtation, Loblaw and Metro Inc Quebec as everyone is stuck in a small travel radius and only allowed go to the big store....and of course you have Big Pharma medical companies who will make a fortune.
Costs? Biden has already printed 1.9 Trillion not Billion that's TRILLION with a 'T'

You might also have unseen costs, for example a 'Lost Year' in regards training, schools and university, the costs to mental health will be massive.

I'm still in touch with some friends in Asia I met some time ago and I hear while only a few dozen died due to the Corona virus, suicides have gone off the scale with something like 20,000 + killing themself in the lockdown.

The Economic Impact Of The Coronavirus is going to be huge, power was already shifting to Asia...CARES Act in the USA, Unprecedented in size and scope, the legislation was the largest economic stimulus package in U.S. history, amounting to 10% of total U.S. gross domestic product. The bill is larger than the $831 billion stimulus act passed in 2009 as part of the response to the Great Bush-Obama era Recession

Proverbs 23:21
"For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and slumber will clothe them with rags." Trumptard gluttons and drunks cause their own economic problems, then vote for Trump to solve those economic problems.

There are 100 Bible Verses about Gluttony
https://www.openbible.info/topics/gluttony

An over-indulgence in either food or drink does not glorify our heavenly Father and is often the precursor to a failed ministry and fruitless life – and there is also the strong possibility that it will contribute to early death. No wonder the writer of Proverbs warns: For the heavy drinker and the glutton will come to poverty – and drowsiness will clothe one with rags.

Not only is excessive eating and drinking identified as destructive… but so also is laziness or slothfulness. In chapter 34 we read a little sleep, a little slumber. A little folding of the hands to rest – then your poverty will come to you as a robber and your want will be like an armed man.

You blame the lockdown, but Bible says it wasn't the lockdown that caused these problems. Instead, it was sinful nonbelievers without self-control, that is to say Trumptards acting against their own health, wealth and general well-being. Voting for Trump is 2024 won't help Trumptards master their hunger because Fatso Trump is the poster-boy for gluttony. Trump has so little control that he can't touch alcohol because he fears becoming a drunkard like his brother.

I hope that's not a real question.

There is no "one" good leader.

Look at Trump and Biden*, and then look at the people who support them.

Dictatorship is NEVER a good thing. Maybe you luck out and the first leader you get does more good than bad. Even better for you if you're one of the people who agree with how they handle business. But what about the next leader after that one dies or is overthrown?

I really hope you weren't posting that as a legitimate question to yourself and allowing the Covid lockdowns to start making you envy people who lived in a Dictatorship.

Oh, the costs will be much, much greater than that, and they will be financial.
http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?tid=64016

But, yanno, Covid-19 isn't really "the cause" of the catastrophe. The system has been unstable for decades. Look at 2008: a spontaneous collapse of finacialism, not linked to any specific stressor. They [western central banks, western governments] haven't fixed anything since then; in fact, they've made the underlying problem worse by doing more of the same: MORE debt, more fake money, more bubbles.

That's not the road to prosperity, that's the path to disaster.

I'd argue the mental issues are going to be a greater burden than anything else.

Not to mention that they will all contribute to any future financial issues, which will in turn fuel more mental problems.

Yada, yada, yada...

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Being without money when the bills come due has got to be a huge stress for anyone. But imo most of those bills are because either 1) somebody (like a commercial landlord) is making a profit off of past investment, or 2) somebody (like a small landlord) is paying off a loan. Ultimately people are being used as a pass-through to banks and investors.

But imo it's a far better solution than in 2007 (and forward) when people were left holding their mortgages and trillions went directly to the banks and lender institutions.

I'm not sure how we seem to have segwayed so far off the initial topic of this conversation.

We just totally fucked up 50 million K-12 students in our country alone for an entire year over this.

Gen Z is going to have enough problems as it is since they were born with an iPhone in their hands. You think the Millennials make for bad adults, wait till you get a load of Z.

Fat kids getting fatter.

Kids not being able to socialize like kids.

Kids being carted around all over the place to different family members houses all the time since the parents still have to work... essentially living the lives of kids with divorced parents even if their parents aren't divorced.

See the videos above. Kids doing desperate shit just trying to reach out to each other online.

Growing up in a world where a lot of their parents and adults in general are acting like terrified idiots, further putting stress on them.

Drug and alcohol use among all age groups will show an extreme spike in 2020 over 2019.

Kids hardly learn anything while in class these days. They're not learning anything online.

More than a year now without any structure in their lives, particularly impactful if they have shit parents in the first place and/or both parents work so much that they are ineffective at home.

And the young realization that mom and dad don't have all the answers when they can't tell their kids when this is all going to end and go back to normal when they ask.

I don't even recognize my niece anymore. And I hate her parents for the hell they're setting her up for if they don't do something about her weight gain. Her mom is obese. Her dad is morbidly so. I'm sure her diet is just as shitty as it always was, but at least she had school and dance class and a lot of other activities before instead of sitting around all day doing nothing.

I had glasses and braces by 6th grade, and I was the second shortest kid in class. For 3 years, I was bullied until I started working out and kicking everybody's ass and people just left me alone to go after easier prey.

Even knowing what I went through, I know what the "fat girl" goes through in school is even worse than what I did. She's still young enough that kids aren't assholes yet, but it won't be long.

Results for this Gallup poll are based on self-administered web surveys conducted March 15-21, 2021, with a random sample of 3,905 adults, aged 18 and older, who are members of the Gallup Panel. Gallup uses probability-based, random sampling methods to recruit its Panel members.

Say it ain't so, Gallup. Web surveys are pure bunk. Even the polling firms, 538 and 270towin will tell you as much.

Gallup also seems to be another outfit that is not going into any depth at all with the breakdown of ages, sexes and racial makeup of their polls anymore, of course only to obfuscate the illegitimate means that they use to come up with polling results that they intended to get in the first place.

Shame on The Hill, for doing what every other news outlet does and making the claim that "63 percent approve of COVID-19 relief bill" in their headline. Simply putting ": poll" on the end of that doesn't make up for it. Only intelligent people know that the polling is bullshit.

And despite all of that, it's still down 15% approval from when the Cares Act approval was by Gallup last year.

Focusing on the mental health aspects seems narrow scoped. Many people are weathering the storm just fine. And since you're always saying that education is just propaganda, why would you want the schools to be reopened?

OTOH, money troubles will affect nearly everyone, and THAT puts an emotional strain on the entire family.

Even though kids aren't learning anything of value in school as far as the teachers and curriculum are concerned, that's not to say that school isn't valuable. Particularly for kids who have two working parents and need to be carted around everywhere, or even more so for those who have terrible parents at home.

This last year is a catastrophe they're going to be paying for the rest of their lives.

Last-Minute Trump Rule Would Let Vaccine Makers Hike Prices Unchecked

Pfizer, Moderna, and other coronavirus vaccine makers have said repeatedly that they intend to hike prices on vaccines as early as this year, as the potential need for additional booster shots and future demand could lead to an unprecedented financial windfall.

One estimate projects that if Pfizer raised the price of its coronavirus vaccine from $19.50 to $175 per dose, as one Pfizer executive recently suggested, and if every adult American were to take it, the cost would be $44.7 billion — nearly 10 percent of all U.S. drug spending.

In the twilight weeks of Donald Trump’s presidency, his administration released a NIST rule designed to undercut the Bayh-Dole Act and weaken the government’s authority to march in and seize control of a patent when drugmakers fail to make medicine “available to the public on reasonable terms.”

That phrase has long been the law’s most contentious provision. It invokes a term of art that multiple federal courts have ruled relates to pricing and market-related decisions. The legislative history of the Bayh-Dole Act includes arguments that clearly state pricing considerations as a factor in determining “reasonable terms.”

The proposed rule, however, tightens the law’s definition to remove price as a factor — a change long demanded by industry.

The Biden administration, following the end of the open comment period next week, could simply revoke the Trump-era rule. That’s the hope of 35 members of Congress, who sent a letter to NIST this week to demand action.

“We write in strong opposition to the National Institute of Standards and Technologies (NIST) proposal to revoke the federal government’s authority under the Bayh-Dole Act to protect the public from unreasonable prices on taxpayer-funded inventions,” reads the letter, which is led by Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas. “Pharmaceutical companies extract the highest prices from the sick and dying, and this proposal would embolden them.”

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, also known as the CARES Act, is a $2.2 trillion economic stimulus bill passed by the 116th U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump on March 27, 2020, in response to the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. The spending primarily includes $300 billion in one-time cash payments to individual people who submit a tax return in America (with most single adults receiving $1,200 and families with children receiving more), $260 billion in increased unemployment benefits, the creation of the Paycheck Protection Program that provides forgivable loans to small businesses with an initial $350 billion in funding (later increased to $669 billion by subsequent legislation), $500 billion in loans for corporations, and $339.8 billion to state and local governments.

Was trying to figure out which thread this should go.

Interesting video. It speaks of the hopelessness of ppl thanks to the constantly-moving goalposts and lockdowns/limitations that are relaxed and then re-imposed at a moments notice.

Also, that people have become so fearful that despite the huge economic, financial and social costs, many people are for lockdowns and vaccine mandates.

Also discusses why these are being imposed in terms of pharma profits and social control.

You should listen to this to get the full flavor of what they're saying, and also understand my jumping-off point for this discussion.

*****

One point that Mercouris makes is that the economy will suffer, tax collection will suffer, social services and policing will suffer, and society will fall apart. Which, according to Christofuoro, is the reason for the social control: so that collapse can happen without the elites suffering from blowback.

Here is my jumping-off point:

People, if they have heard of "the great reset", may have the impression that there will be a relatively brief period of pain, followed by a New Order, where there will be a new currency, an new (international) system of governance, a new economy, new source of energy etc.

But in looking over the "regime change" operations USA/NATO have conducted over the decades, have ANY of them resulted in anything other than failed states?

What makes anyone think that the Davos Crowd knows how to - or indeed, is even interested in- a New World Order? Their history suggests that they're more interested in sowing chaos and decay.

So, imagine that the economy collapses. Without a productive role, virtually everyone is turned into a "useless eater". Tax revenues fall. Police, fire, public hospitals etc go unpaid or are "defunded".

So what! According to the elites, if they can be isolated from the blowback, well, the "useless eaters" can eat each other! Population falls. Isn't that part of the plan? (The vaccine mandates aren't about "saving people from themselves" they're about scraping more tax money off to big pharma. Just like everything ... everything ... is geared towards bleeding and gutting "the people".) This is all about pulling the plug, not about making anything "better".

There are just two giant stumbling blocks to this plan: China, and Russia. If everything goes according to this scenario, the Davos Crowd will have destabilized and depopulated their part of the globe.

But there will still be about 1.5 billion people, and two civilizations who did not take part in the madness, leaving the Davos Crowd a relatively weak hand. The only way they could complete this is by bringing down China and Russia first
War is a necessity.

The only question is: Does the Davos Crowd believe Russia, when Russia says "We know where the decision-makers are hiding out, and they will be targeted first"? Does that make the Davis Crowd believe that they, too, have skin in the game? Would that cause them to hold back from full-on nuclear war? Or do they feel so omnipotent that they believe they will survive anyway? (Given that they're sociopaths, my guess is the latter.)

In the meantime, the dollar stands to lose as the world's reserve currency, seeing as it's based on a mountain of debt and nothing more.

Just some dark musings for today.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I got about halfway through, but I wanted to comment on 2 very specific things:
- the Swiss vote
- omicron

The Swiss vote is extremely puzzling and certainly people weren't voting based on facts. If you look at 91-DIVOC, while the number of Swiss cases had skyrocketed to levels far beyond anything seen previously, the number of deaths has barely edged up. Maybe that's because, of the number of people vaccinated, well over half are within the 6 month 'window' of good immunity. One hopes a large number of these well-vaccinated get infected, have mild cases, and go on to develop an even more robust, complete immune response, and there ends Switzerlands' problems.

Omicron is a puzzle at this point. Countries should be cautious, restrict travel from countries where omicron is abundant, and be actively internally tracking omicron cases and outcomes to see which way things go. But at the moment, afaict there's no reality-based need to even try to put any permanent responses in place.

What I surmise from these 2 examples is that the hype far exceeds the reality.

Oh, in general, when it comes to 'Europe'(WHO) or 'the EU', on a per-capita basis Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, Latvia, Slovakia, Czechia, Poland, Greece, Romania, and Slovenia are currently the hardest hit. BeNeLux and Germany have crept up a bit, but are far below previous peaks. Northern Europe and the UK are lower. I don't see a 'European' crisis, I see a problem with eastern Europe. (BTW the countries experiencing current per capita very high death spikes had previously experienced very high per capita death spikes ... so much for natural immunity.)

So overall, yeah, the inflamed news and inflamed political rhetoric, and exaggerated official responses far outweigh the reality. Why the supposedly well-educated, internet-connected western and northern European populations don't simply get on their computers and do some simple fact-checking, and put all the hype into context, is a mystery.

Do people really believe that there are only 3 versions of Covid right now (Beta, Delta, Moronic)?

It's estimated that SARS-CoV-2 develops an established mutation every 11 days.

There's probably 1,000 different variants of Covid-19 out there worldwide by now, if not a lot more.

But even though that is probably scarier to think about than only 3, you can't give them all scary names if there are thousands of them.
