Trump was confused when White House staffers didn't like him rewinding Capitol riot highlights on TV, report says

Stephanie Grisham, a former White House press secretary, told CNN last month that Trump "gleefully" watched the insurrection unfold on TV, rewinding the footage at several points to watch it over again.

"Look at all of the people fighting for me," Trump said at the time, according to Grisham.

As White House staffers watched the riot unfold, the former president was shocked that they weren't as excited as he was.

McConnell wasn't done. As for the events of January 6, 2021, which the resolution condemning Cheney and Kinzinger had described as "legitimate political discourse," the Kentucky Republican was similarly blunt.

"We all were here; we saw what happened," said McConnell. "It was a violent insurrection for the purpose of trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election from one administration to the next. That's what it was."

Maine Sen. Susan Collins said the rioters who "broke windows and breached the Capitol were not engaged in legitimate political discourse, and to say otherwise is absurd."

Collins said the GOP started out the year with an advantage on issues that could decide the election, but "every moment that is spent re-litigating a lost election or defending those who have been convicted of criminal behavior moves us further away from the goal of victory this fall."

RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel denied that the "legitimate political discourse" wording in the censure resolution was referring to the violent attack on the Capitol and said it had to do with other actions taken by the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, but the resolution drew no such distinction.

"I think every American who watched the video of that attack and who watched that attack unfold knows that it was really shameful to suggest that that what happened that day might be legitimate political discourse," she said.

McConnell calls Jan. 6 a 'violent insurrection,' breaking with RNC

WASHINGTON — Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell disagreed Tuesday with the Republican National Committee’s recent censure of two GOP lawmakers, as well as its characterization of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

“We all were here. We saw what happened. It was a violent insurrection for the purpose of trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election, from one administration to the next. That’s what it was,” McConnell, R-Ky., told reporters at his weekly news conference.

If you look up other words that mean the same thing as insurrection, you'll find the word coup.

In other news Rudolph William Louis Giuliani was a no show. He's in hiding.

The House committee investigating the US Capitol insurrection issued subpoenas to Rudy Giuliani and other members of Donald Trump's legal team who filed bogus legal challenges to the 2020 election that fueled the lie that race had been stolen from the former president.

"Another thing we'll do, and so many people have been asking me about it, if I run and if I win, we will treat those people from Jan. 6 fairly," Trump said to applause. "We will treat them fairly. And if it requires pardons we will give them pardons. Because they are being treated so unfairly."

Although former President Donald Trump reluctantly condemned his supporters who violently breached the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, he eventually softened his stance dramatically, going so far as to say the riot was simply "a day of protesting". Here are Trump's evolving comments on the January 6 riot:

Trump will pardon the people convicted on Jan 6th, once he gets the power. When he had the power, he pardoned people who deserved execution for first degree murder, as did Nixon:

Nixon’s Leniency After My Lai Hurt Veterans. Trump’s May, Too.
A president’s actions in 1971 helped turn public opinion against those who fought the Vietnam War. By James E. Wright, December 15, 2019

Those who disagree with President Trump’s recent pardons for two U.S. soldiers and a sailor who committed war-zone crimes have focused on how his actions undermine the military justice system, the code of conduct, military discipline, and the integrity of the chain of command. But there is another serious consequence, one that flows perhaps less from the pardons themselves than from the ways in which the President and others explained and justified them.

A U.S. Army platoon led by Lt. William Calley Jr. had swept into the town of My Lai and, finding no enemy soldiers, proceeded to kill as many as 600 villagers, largely women and children. Thirty soldiers were charged with crimes, including senior officers who allegedly ignored accounts of criminal action, but ultimately only Calley was convicted.

There was considerable public support for Lt. Calley. In a Gallup poll taken the following month, 69 percent of the respondents said he was a scapegoat. Many of his defenders went farther, arguing that he was, in fact, a hero. Country music stations played “Set Lt. Calley Free” and “Battle Hymn of Lt. Calley,” the latter of which eventually sold some two million records.

President Nixon’s actions and statements in the Calley case seemed to validate the view that everyone did it and no one is guilty—or perhaps, as some argued, that we were all guilty.

Pardoning or reducing sentences generally represents a determination that the process was prejudiced or unfair, that the accused was actually innocent, or that the sentence was excessive. Seldom does a pardon represent a judgment that the pardonee actually committed the offense and moreover that doing it was a commendable thing. President Nixon was careful not to go quite that far in public statements regarding Lt. Calley.

The day after the verdict, Nixon ordered Calley released from the post stockade and placed under house arrest in the Fort Benning bachelor officer quarters. Appeals would eventually reduce his punishment to time served. I forgot to mention that Nixon won reelection by a landslide. His opponent, George McGovern, lost because he was forcefully against pardoning Lt. Calley, the murderer. Since 69 percent of Americans forgave Lt. Calley for being a murderer, McGovern's loss was inevitable.

50 years after My Lai:

You can see from the article that he (Lt. Calley) did open up to me about certain matters, and I was the only reporter to talk to him after his conviction. I was also at his apartment the day that George Wallace (the governor of Alabama) showed up. That’s the other big part of the story as far as I’m concerned: how this became a major political event in America. The political story essentially overwhelmed the legal story in the end.

A huge body of American opinion was deeply offended by the idea that an American soldier who went out there in good faith could be put on trial for his life. It became kind of a Rorschach test of people’s political views and their feelings toward the war. It was already apparent before the trial started that people who opposed the anti-war movement, who were disgusted with the youth counterculture and the excesses connected to that, in their opinion, were also defensive about Calley. But it became more apparent as the trial went along. There came a point where I discovered that he was treated as a hero wherever he went. I was sitting with him in the Atlanta airport one time while he had a layover and an airline agent came up and just handed him a first-class boarding pass. When he went to cash a check in Tennessee, the bank president came out to shake his hand. He received more than 10,000 letters of support. That feeling only increased after his conviction, then the White House was inundated with mail objecting to Calley’s conviction.

McConnell squares off with conservatives for downplaying 'violent insurrection'

Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell made clear this week that the deadly events on January 6, 2021, were a "violent insurrection" meant to stop the peaceful transfer of power -- a comment prompting backlash from a number of House and Senate Republicans.

The lawyers are still undecided about whether killing Ashli Babbitt on Jan 6th was right or wrong, Justice or Injustice:

Evaluating the Police Shooting of Ashli Babbitt
https://www.lawfareblog.com/evaluating-police-shooting-ashli-babbitt
There are enough facts to conclude that even if Byrd violated Babbitt’s Fourth Amendment rights, it is highly unlikely that he could be ethically charged with, let alone convicted of, a crime. But those conclusions, tentative as they are, assume that courts will apply the legal rules that usually apply to police shootings. Given the unique context present here, though, we would not be surprised if that turned out not to be the case.

I am not a lawyer, but if the police had killed thousands of Trumptards, it would have been MAGA sweet justice.

I keep ointing out, mentioning, and asking about the Bomb (aka Explosives Device) planted inside the Capitol Building by Liberals in the days prior to 6 Jan (intending to attribute it to attendees of the Rally far from the opposite side of the Capitol.)

Now it turns out that FBI are covering up and whitewashing the perpetrators who build and planted the Bomb(s), and also the Libtard Congressional Fake Commission on 6 Jan are also covering up all of this evidence and facts.

Mike Pence stood up for himself. Something must be off …

Trump has evolved into openly saying that his doormat, former Vice President Mike Pence, should have “overturned the election” in Trump’s favor. Presumably Trump felt that Pence would just take this degrading abuse, since that is how Pence has rolled for the past six years.

Remember that time that Trump egged on a mob that broke into the Capitol and chanted, “Hang Mike Pence”? If there was ever a time to 25th-Amendment Trump’s ass, that was it. But Pence just took it, and since leaving office, he’s kept pretty quiet. That changed last week.

In a speech to the Federalist Society, Pence said that “President Trump is wrong,” and that he, Mike Pence, “had no right to overturn the election.” That may be the bare minimum of a “rebuke” to Trump, but you’ve got to start somewhere. But that he even bothered to start somewhere, when there was no indication otherwise that preserving his dignity meant much to him, is another small indicator that Trump’s grip over the party is weakening.

There is a book out, covering most of the real issues which The Fake Commission is ignoring.
Book by Julie Kelly.

The Libtard house of cards prosecution narrative is collapsing. Sounds like nobody has pled down, turned against the truth and facts.
One key foundational block in the Libtard case is the location of Kamala Harris and/ or Mike Pence, which all of the Fake Cases are built upon. This disbelief has been kept suspended by denying cross examinations of Secret Service Agents who have been testifying. But a Judge has finally ruled that facts must rule over fantasy. I think name is Judge McFadden.

U.S. District Court Judge Trevor McFadden. Seems to have made his ruling on or prior to 25 Jan.
Now the Fake Foundation of all the cases can collapse.

I believe the tide is finally turning on this issue. Democrat tyrants overplayed their hands. Perhaps all of this shit would have flown if the economy wasn't doing well, but here we are.

You should watch what's happening in Canada if you aren't, and also seeing how this is rippling all across the world now. There's a march going on foot in Australia as we speak with a literal sea of people as far as the eye can see.

A long quote just to show that I have the book:

CHAPTER ELEVEN:

WILL THE CAPITOL DEFENDANTS GET A FAIR TRIAL?

American history is littered with examples of citizens protesting inside and outside government spaces. Sometimes those protests turn violent; police officers are attacked, lawmakers are bullied, property is damaged. Public buildings are the ideal location for Americans to voice their views on any range of subjects from the environment to war policy to a dubious presidential election.

The closest comparison between January 6 and another instance of partisan activists aggressively disrupting Congressional proceedings was the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh.

For weeks prior to the vote, the news media, Democratic lawmakers, and feminist groups made life hell for Kavanaugh and for the country. The chaos began during Kavanaugh’s initial hearing on September 4, 2018. Senator Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) interrupted Chairman Charles Grassley’s opening remarks, talking over him as the longtime senator tried to introduce the nominee and his family. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) quickly joined Harris’ harangue. “Mr. Chairman, I move to adjourn,” Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) demanded.

Activists seated in the hearing room loudly cheered then started to berate Grassley and Republican members of the committee. The mayhem lasted for several minutes as protesters were removed.

It was a harbinger of how vociferously, and violently in some instances, Democrats and their allies would fight Kavanaugh’s confirmation. That week, more than 200 people were arrested by U.S. Capitol Police, paid a minimal fine, and were released. Despite the uproar, Kavanaugh’s confirmation seemed almost certain.

But unsubstantiated stories about Kavanaugh’s behavior in high school, including accusations of sexual assault, were reported by the Washington Post and threatened to doom his ascendancy to the nation’s highest court. A dramatic showdown between Kavanaugh and his chief accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on September 27, 2018 further inflamed both sides.

The siege of government buildings escalated. Republican senators were angrily confronted in elevators and outside government buildings. Some received death threats. The outrage was heavily fueled by Democratic leaders including Senator Elizabeth Warren. “Hello resistance!” Warren shouted to a raucous crowd assembled outside on October 4. “I am angry on behalf of women who have been told to sit down and shut up one time too many. This is about hijacking our democracy.”

Thousands heeded Warren’s call for action. “We were planning to shut down the Capitol Building but the authorities were so scared of this #WomensWave that they shut it down for us,” the official account of the Women’s March tweeted that day. “1000+ women, survivors, and allies have gathered in the Hart Senate Building. Every hallway. Every floor.”

When Pence announced on the afternoon of October 6, 2018 that Kavanaugh’s nomination was confirmed, women shouted from the Senate gallery and were removed.

The nation was roiled by the Kavanaugh fiasco for more than a month yet activists opposed to his nomination were considered heroes, not villains, by the national news media.

Protesters who defiled government buildings or harassed elected officials or scuffled with police were not considered “domestic terrorists.”

Democratic senators were not condemned as a “sedition caucus” for disrupting and delaying an official government hearing. To the contrary, theatrics by Harris and Warren elevated their public profile and helped launch their presidential bids the following year.

More than 230 people were arrested in D.C. on January 20, 2017 when protests against Donald Trump’s inauguration turned violent. Activists associated with the “#DisruptJ20” movement, which organized “widespread civil resistance [in] the streets of Washington, D.C.” during Trump’s swearing-in festivities, set fires, vandalized businesses, and clashed with police that day. But the same office prosecuting January 6 defendants eventually dropped all cases related to the J20 rioting.

A more recent example is the hostile occupation of the Mark O. Hatfield United States Courthouse in Portland, Oregon in 2020. The government building and surrounding streets were under attack for months by leftwing activists following the death of George Floyd. The U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, Billy J. Williams, detailed the destruction on the one-hundred-day anniversary of the siege:

“There has been nothing civil, respectful, or positive about the nightly violent and destructive protests in Portland, Oregon,” Williams wrote in a press release on September 25, 2020.

On many nights, after peaceful demonstrations end, violent agitators have physically attacked police officers and firefighters, damaged buildings, and repeatedly attempted to set public buildings on fire. Following one of these political rallies, a man was shot and killed. Most recently, acts of violence towards law enforcement and first responders include a Portland firefighter being shot in the chest with a steel ball bearing launched from an arm-mounted slingshot, a man dousing several police officers with high-powered bear deterrent spray, a man punching a female police officer in the face, and a woman striking a police officer in the head from behind with a wooden shield.

Some of the weapons confiscated during the Portland riots were the same that landed January 6 defendants behind bars and denied bail. Those items included a helmet, tasers, and chemical spray.

But a March 2021 investigation by KGW-TV, a Portland news station, revealed that at least one-third of the federal cases had been dropped, including defendants accused of assaulting federal officers or destroying government property. Half were dismissed “with prejudice,” which means the case cannot be brought back to court.118

Some also took plea deals that only required a period of probation or a thirty-day stint in jail. One legal expert—law professor Laura Appleman of Willamette University—defended the move, explaining on KGW-TV how prosecutors needed to ask, “Is it worth using our limited time and energy to prosecute each and every of these federal misdemeanors?”

However, January 6 protesters received none of the usual protections or praise afforded to activists on the Left. Even more troubling for Trump supporters would be the ultimate judgment for their actions would be rendered in a city where only 5 percent of the residents voted for Donald Trump in 2020.

Since the “crime scene,” as former acting U.S. Attorney Michael Sherwin described the Capitol building after January 6, was in Washington, D.C., every case is handled in the nation’s capital—a bad omen for Trump supporters. The overwhelming number of judges and magistrates of the D.C. District Court were appointed by Barack Obama and Bill Clinton; only four were Trump appointees. Judges such as Amy Berman Jackson and Emmet Sullivan had been openly hostile to President Trump and his associates during his presidency.

In a forty-minute tirade from the bench in February 2020, Berman Jackson berated longtime Trump associate Roger Stone and accused him of “covering up” Trump’s role in imaginary Russian election collusion. “There was nothing phony about the investigation,” Berman Jackson said about Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, which had already come up empty-handed.

She accused House Republicans of issuing a misleading report on Trump-Russia election collusion. “The truth still exists, the truth still matters. Roger Stone’s insistence that it doesn’t, his belligerence, his pride in his own lies are a threat to our most fundamental institutions. If it goes unpunished it will not be a victory for one party or another. Everyone loses.” All of this was irrelevant to the matter at hand. Stone was not charged with any crime related to election collusion. But in the mind of this liberal judge, it was all about Trump and Russia.

Beryl Howell, the chief judge of the D.C. District Court, also is no fan of Donald Trump. A former Democratic Senate staffer, Howell was appointed to the bench in 2010 by Barack Obama; she became chief judge in 2016. The following year, Howell supervised Mueller’s grand jury. Mueller’s nineteen-lawyer team issued 2,800 subpoenas and executed at least 500 search warrants over a two-year period with Howell overseeing most of the legal proceedings.

I was thinking you might want to read it. I am impressed with how well Julie Kelly writes, but not impressed with the Whataboutism of her arguments. You well know I am definitely not open-minded about Trump. That goes all the way back to his early books on business. I was thinking I'd learn something useful for my business. I did: What a crook he is. Everything about how Trump ran his business I despise. What Trump does, I do the opposite. Works for me.

Trump runs his business in New York, New Jersey, since they were run by The Mafia. I can't conjure who might think those tactics or practices would work in Tejas. Maybe CA, Chicago, MA, Twin Cities, MI, other places overrun with criminals.

I also conjured that his methods would not work for Balancing The Budget, which is the primary reason I never voted for him. Either when he was New York Liberal #1 or #2, or when he was up against the Muppethead.

‘Chilling’ text sent by pro-Trump Republican before Capitol riot suggests knowledge of what was to unfold, report says

A text message sent days before the attack on the Capitol is raising new questions about what members of Congress on Capitol Hill knew about how January 6 would play out before it occurred.

“If POTUS allows this to occur… we’re driving a stake in the heart of the federal republic,” read the text, described by The Post as having been sent by a member of the House Freedom Caucus, a far-right group of Republicans, who had “knowledge of the president’s planning for that day”.

What was the text referring to? Was it a coup attempt by an assault on the Capital? A coup attempt through Mike Pence refusing to declare the election for Biden, or both?

I have never seen a more obvious case of a Senator refusing to act responsibly.

In 2021 McConnell said about Trump impeachment for Jan 6th:
“We have no power to convict and disqualify a former officeholder who is now a private citizen.”

Disqualify means Trump can’t run again. According to 57 Senators, McConnell was lying about no power. McConnell does have the power to disqualify Trump, but it just so happened to be best for McConnell’s career to pretend powerlessness. McConnell fled from the responsibility to kill Trump’s career. A majority of Americans in positions of authority hesitate about responsibility, but they enthusiastically take the money and fame from those positions, which is why America isn't run very well.

The tweet that convinced Vice President Pence to declare Trump the Loser:

The only responsibility and power of the Vice President under the Constitution is to faithfully count the electoral college votes as they have been cast.

The Constitution does not empower the Vice President to alter in any way the votes that have been cast, either by rejecting certain of them or otherwise.

How the Vice President discharges this constitutional obligation is not a question of his loyalty to the President any more than it would be a test of a President's loyalty to his Vice President whether the President assented to the impeachment and prosecution of his Vice President for the commission of high crimes while in office.

No President and no Vice President would -- or should -- consider either event as a test of political loyalty of one to the other.

And if either did, he would have to accept that political loyalty must yield to constitutional obligation.

Neither the President nor the Vice President has any higher loyalty than to the Constitution.

There was no coup attempt. There was no insurrection.

Don't get over-confident, 6ix. Trump's political career would have ended if 10 Senators had been slightly braver.

Twelve Republicans, while voting against conviction because Trump was no longer president, explicitly deplored his behavior or assigned him some blame for the attack. One of the 12, Sen. Rob Portman, said Trump had violated his oath of office. These 12 senators, combined with the 57 who voted to convict, formed a two-thirds majority to condemn the former president.

What about the others? There’s a hard core of about 15 Republicans who have reached for any excuse, denounced any criticism of Trump, or concocted smears to deflect the evidence against him. It’s a shameful nest of apologists. Here’s how they rationalized their votes:

1. The evidence is fake. House impeachment managers documented their case with hours of video, as well as written comments from Trump and the Capitol assailants. Nevertheless, some senators refuse to accept any of it. “The entire House managers’ case is based on hearsay,” said Sen. Ted Cruz. “The trial record was a complete joke,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham. Even after Trump’s lawyers agreed to admit as evidence a written statement from a Republican congresswoman about an incriminating conversation with House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy, Graham dismissed her account.

2. Anyone who denounces Trump must be denounced. Graham and Johnson repeatedly castigated Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for objecting to Trump’s conduct. In radio interviews over the weekend, Johnson said McConnell should “zip his lip” because his criticism of Trump “divides the Republicans.” Johnson also repudiated the Jan. 6 speech in which McConnell criticized Trump for lying about the election results. Meanwhile, in Fox News interviews, Graham complained that McConnell had “put a load on the back of Republicans” by making anti-Trump statements, to which other Republican senators would now have to respond.

12 Republican Senators said Trump was guilty but wouldn't convict him because it would damage their political careers. 7 more Republicans voted to convict because they weren't afraid of Trump but were afraid of looking like gullible fools to believe Trump's lies.

Attorney General Bill Barr launches blistering attack on Trump in new book

‘The absurd lengths to which he took his “stolen election” claim led to the rioting on Capitol Hill’

Before announcing that he was stepping down from his role early, in December 2020 – after Mr Trump’s election defeat but before the Capitol riot – the outgoing attorney general told the then-president that the Justice Department had seen no evidence of widespread fraud that could have affected the result of the election.

In his book, expected to be published on 8 March, Mr Barr recalls the reaction to his assessment. Mr Trump reportedly shouted: “This is killing me – killing me. This is pulling the rug right out from under me.”

“He stopped for a moment and then said, ‘You must hate Trump. You would only do this if you hate Trump.’”

Mr Barr then offered to resign. “Accepted!” Mr Trump yelled, banging his palm on the table. “‘Leave and don’t go back to your office. You are done right now. Go home!’” However, White House lawyers apparently persuaded Mr Trump not to accept the resignation offer.

As he has before, the two-time former attorney general – who also served under George HW Bush from 1991 to 1993 – blames Mr Trump for the Capitol riot on 6 January.

“The absurd lengths to which he took his ‘stolen election’ claim led to the rioting on Capitol Hill.”

Does this mean that Ted is going to start blowing another dude he hated only a year ago?

It's quite a long list at this point.

Barr will be laughing all the way to the bank when you TDS suffering dummies make his work of fiction a NYT Bestseller.

Barr was in position to know that Trump lost. Barr was in the room when Trump couldn't understand that he had lost and threw an angry fit at Barr. Barr saw the absurd lengths to which Trump took his ‘stolen election’ claim which led to the rioting on Capitol Hill.

6ix's shtick is to preach an enervating cynicism -- everything is terrible, but nothing can be done about it, so the best thing is to let it all burn.

Hey... I'm not the one who's praised some of the worst human beings who ever lived, such as John Bolton, John McCain, Mitt Romney and GWB just because they happened to say something I agree with.

Add Barr to that list now.

You people are gross. Barr knows it. Barr's going to pad out his retirement account with $5-6 Million more off the backs of you morons who think that Trump is going anywhere.

Meanwhile, in reality...

There was no insurrection. There was no coup attempt.

and...

Trump will be fine.

Sorry, Reaverfan. Letting everything burn is your Antifa clan's motto.

The Trump Presidency was great until Democrats worked with the Chinese to drop a new bug on the planet, and worked with the Legacy Media to pretend that it was something to worry about. Then there was two terrible years of eroding freedom that followed, all so they could change the election rules before election day because they knew Trump was going to destroy anybody he was up against and they wouldn't be able to have their war with Russia for another 4 years.

Everything this last year has been terrible. And they've lied about all of it.

Still tick tocking, huh Ted?
