I put out my rain gage last night bc they said we'd get about 1/2" of rain. By appx 2 AM we'd only gotten a drizzle but when I looked out the window this AM it looked like 1.5". Woo hoo! I'll measure it later but... yippee!!!

Edited to add: 1 7/16". Once the clouds are blown away I expect to see snow on the mountains.

Yeah. Certainly unexpected on a Sunday.

I didn't even know he called and I just got lucky that I checked my phone to see if anybody had. It's the only time in the collective 10 weeks he's had my car this year that I got a call from him and I didn't pick it up.

My other bud is very happy to hear that I have my car back so I can come out and help him on his house again.

As long as I can get the pool table down in the basement this week and we don't have to do it on the weekend, I already know what my plans for the weekend are.

By now, it seems like it! But as hard as it is to imagine, having been in near-contimuous drought for over a decade, a year's -worth of rain would mean, on the average, one inch of rain each week, EVERY week, from mid-November thru Dec, January, and February. We haven't seen that in a long time!

I was going to do a lot today but i fell asleep instead. But I did manage to scrub the kitchen floor yesterday, finally!

I do have to pat myself on the back for frugal use of leftovers. I bought some cross rib roasts on sale a while back (turns out they don't stew as well as chuck and don't roast as well as tri tip, but they do make an ok stir fry or philly cheese steak). The roasts were a bit big so I froze the leftover trimmed meat until there was enough for a meal. At the same time, I was freezing the juices from the roast beef that I made. Along with some shrooms that I bought on sale and leftover cream cheese, it made a damn fine stroganoff!

Yep, snow on the mountains. The highest peak visible from my home on a clear day is Mt Baldy, at 10,000 ft. Judging by how far down the snow fell, it looks like the snow level might be about 8,000 feet. It sure is pretty!

So....

I get back from my brother's place and get in the car to do some long needed grocery shopping (after my old man already left) and the car won't start.

It's trying. The battery is fine. The starter is doing it's thing. But the car ain't even attempting to turn over.

Sure I'd already flooded the engine, I decided it was a problem I was going to deal with tomorrow and just got something to eat and was going to call it an extremely early night since I didn't get much sleep last night.

I woke up at about 8:15 and decided I'd give it another attempt. That's when I opened up the engine compartment and found mouse shit and nesting materials all over my F*()*#ING engine compartment. I guess that's what happens when you're car is sitting outside for 7 weeks before your mechanic works on it.

Holy shit.

So I clean all of that up, then I thought it might be a good idea to open up the air filter compartment and make sure that's clean.

Well... The air filter was, but the bottom of the compartment looked like the bedding for a gerbil that hadn't been cleaned in a month!

WTF?

By this time, my battery was basically dead, so after I cleaned everything out and put it back together, I set my industrial grade charger to 200 amps for jumping a car and got to work. I flooded the shit out of that engine, but finally on about the 40th attempt for the day I got her to turn over and stay running.

I'm glad I put HEET in there earlier because there's obviously water in my gas tank too. It was all over the ground out the back of the tailpipe. And the exhaust was a dark gray that you only see coming out of diesel trucks for about 15 minutes straight.

I let it run for about 30 minutes and by that time the exhaust looked like normal. The car was idling smooth the whole time and wasn't making any funny noises.

I've been able to start it immediately 5 times since then. In fact, I'd say that at least right now it seems to start faster than it did before I got the fuel line replaced.

Hopefully everything will be okay now and it will start tomorrow. I'll just have to start the car at least once or twice a day until I burn up the half tank of crap gas I have in there and I'll make sure at least the first tank I put back in is primo gas with some fuel stabilizer to help flush whatever crap out that might be in there.

Still got no milk though. Stores were closed by the time all of this happened.

Boy...

Car seems fine now. I think my idiot mechanic left air in the lines on top of letting the mice take up residence under the hood and putting gas with water in my tank.

Thanks, Brenda.

Yeah. It was ghastly under there. Somewhere in between what my house looks like before I dehoarded and what my friend's basement that I cleaned out looked like.

I've even got crap in my trunk, and maybe even in open tool bags. I'm going to have to deep clean everything.

That's for another day though. Too busy right now.

I started her up again just about 20 minutes ago and let it run about 10 minutes. No problems yet.

Me and my bud got the pool table taken apart and hauled up 12 steps and out to his ride, and then the 14 steps down to his basement. SLATE IS HEAVY!!!! Then we got the last piece of furniture he was giving me in my porch.

The couch and the one seater are going to be too big for the room so they're definitely going to be going into the living room once I finish with the baseboard and window trim this winter.

My other bud was hoping I could help him paint the house tomorrow. I told him that I wasn't comfortable driving my car all that way just yet, but he sounds really desperate and can't work this weekend because it's his mom's birthday and some other family stuff. I've been trying to call him back to tell him that if he comes and picks me up I'll work as late as he wants tomorrow night, but I think his cell phone died. I'm hoping I can reach him tonight.

I had a really nice time. Didn't get to see her around my birthday so she also brought me my birthday present.

We stayed in the local mall and had a wander around a couple of stores looking at the Christmas items and discussing if they were good. Helped her find a couple of things that she needed. So, yeah good afternoon.

Yeah. The car seems to be working right now. I left it in the garage for almost 24 hours before I ran some errands today and it started right up. Today I left it outside the garage and will see if it starts alright while it's left out in the cold. I should feel good about it if it does.

I bought myself almost $70 worth of stuff today that will cost less than $10 after the rebates come back. A few things for me, but mostly stuff to give away.

I got three new floor vents for less than $6.00 that are normally almost $7 each to replace the rusty old ones in my kitchen and living room. The 2 for the living room are bright white to match the trim and baseboard, and I decided to go brown with the one on the new flooring my friend and his dad helped me install early this year because it blends right in with the floor to the point that you don't even notice it anymore.

That was a great buy. I had planned on sanding the rust down on the old ones and repainting them. Now I just got a no-fuss cosmetic upgrade that is a lot bigger than you would think it was.

That's awesome.

My aunt and uncle near my grandma's and my other aunt that always comes here finally invited them to Christmas dinner. I'm invited as well, but I won't be going. My aunt that's having people over is making everyone from different houses eat in separate rooms, hugs aren't allowed, and she'll be wearing a mask the whole time. I feel bad for her. The Gummint did a real head job on her. She is going to therapy now though, and went back even though the first session she left when the therapist wouldn't put a mask on for her. Honestly, I'm surprised I even got the invite because I'm sure she's heard that I was never vaccinated.

I hope that she can be fixed.

My aunt and Grandma are coming to my place on Christmas Eve. My old man, step mom and youngest brother are going out to the east coast to my other brother's place for a week. I'm not invited there because I'm not vaxxed. I'm sure they knew there was no way I'd ever make that trip out there, but I guess they didn't want to bluff and invite me knowing that just in case I actually did show up.

I'll probably end up going to my friend's house for Christmas. They've kind of been outcast from his family right now because none of them were jabbed, so I guess maybe we're going to be making our own family now. At least his wife's family still gets together with them.

I just turned down the heat another degree, and I'll be putting it down another 4 degrees at night for the rest of the winter. I got my gas/electric bill for the month and even though it was 2 degrees colder I used 20% less gas than last year. The bill was still $7 more than last year.

Last month's bill was $4 less than the previous November, so they've made $3 more off of me this winter so far.

They will not win.

We had snow here, Brenda. Just a few inches in the last two days. Nothing really stuck to the cement, but it's on the grass and the roofs and the trashcans and what not.

Last night's test was successful. I had the car out of the garage all night in the cold since around 2PM yesterday... so just a little less than 21 hours. The high yesterday was 19 degrees and the low last night was 18 degrees. The car didn't start up as fast as it would have if it were in the garage, but it didn't give me any problems and started on the first attempt. I let it run in the garage for about 10 minutes before shutting it off.

It will be mid-20's to mid-30's through Thursday, so I shouldn't have any problems leaving it at my friends house all day when we're working on his other property. Friday the high is only 14 though, so I might skip out on that one.

Christmas Eve the low is ZERO!

It's kind of funny, actually. If the weather channel is right about the weather through the end of February, then Friday through Tuesday is supposed to be the coldest weather we have all winter, with the night of Christmas Eve being the coldest of the season.

Sure... Things are bound to change, but right now it's not even close. Except for the three nights leading up to Christmas, there's not a single night where it's predicted to dip into the single digits for the lows.

I'm going to miss the big sale at Goodwill today. I've already had enough of being outside in this crap for one day.

Got a lot done at my friend's house today. May or may not be going back tomorrow, but Wednesday for sure if we don't.

Car started up fine when I left. Not only that, but it seems that having the fuel line replaced has given me a bonus. For YEARS now, the car acted funky when switching gears (It's an automatic). Shifting down was never a problem, but some of the gears seemed sticky and I got used to having to let off on the gas a little bit before the gear shifted otherwise the RPMs would keep rising and the gear wouldn't shift.

I don't want to speak too soon.... but it seems like it's as smooth as butter right now. And that's when it's only about 15 degrees outside and I've still got some water in the gas tank.

Who knows? Maybe a funky fuel line was also contributing to my emission testing problems. That might be too much to hope for.

49 degrees when I walked into the house. Got to get this place heated up so I can take a shower.

Holy crap. Now they're talking 8 to 12 inches of snow between Thursday morning and Saturday morning.

I don't think I'll be helping my bud out on Thursday either.

Best shower ever.

I think I'd probably better turn the heat up a little higher. Right before the heat goes off I can see my breath.

At least it warms up after next Tuesday.

BRENDA

Call at supper time from my boss. Work for me tomorrow as she wants before some people arrive in the afternoon. Have to be there after 9am, so I will see everyone in the afternoon.

Also there is a call for more snow for my area.

That's so early!!!

I hope getting to and from work isn't too difficult, BRENDA, given the weather!

Did you ever get the feeling that you've forgotten to do something really important?

Well, I've been walking around like that for two days now.

I hate it when that happens. And I really hate it when I remember what it was, st the last minute or too late!!
