Well, someone or possibly 2 people decided to throw pepper spray around the local mall. I was in a store and have really no idea what happened outside of what the Walmart greeter told me when I asked her.

Finished the two boards for the entryway table and put the legs on. I won't put anything on it for about a week until it cures, but it looks fantastic.

I didn't finish the piece of furniture I was working on. I still need the 2nd coat on the 2nd color, but it looks really cute.

I'll post some pictures when I get it finished.

Rain, rain, and more rain here.

I'd retrieve my rain gage and measur the latest rainfall, but I don't want to go out in the rain! It's been a crazy wet season so far. According to LADWP rain gage monitors, we're pretty much at our season total.

Last rainstorm I took a detour on my way home from the doctor's to sneak a peak at the lower San Gabriel River.

Now, the San Gabriel is a bit of interesting engineering. It has a total of seven small dams across it, and several major recharge basins that fill up when it rains and allow water to percolate into our major aquifers. (They did this after screwing up the LA River's recharge capacity.) Usually water never flows to the lowest dam, but last time around it was not only at the lowest dam, it was running over it. If I were to check the lower dam now, I'm sure water would be pouring over.

The weather in my area for today is almost Spring like. Not cold at all. Sitting at 11C which is 52F.

Rest of meds got and groceries done. Just needed some supper for tonight and a couple of more nights. Got a nice small portion of stew beef along with some potatoes and brussels for my supper.

That sounds tasty! I think I'm putting beef stew on the menu!

I accidentally kicked a chair leg this AM. Put an ice pack on it bc it's REALLY sore. But I took to the dog out for a short walk, and retrievd my "rain gage", which measured almost 2 1/2" from this last storm. We had two flashes of lightning last night. I always count out the seconds to see how far away it was. Well, one flash was REALLY bright, and I got as far as "One and..." and then "BOOOOOM"! It was really close!

I try to change up my menu. Get tired eating chicken as I just finished some last night.

Been seeing on the news about the battering California has been taking over the last week.

This is but a reprieve for us in BC then it will be back to rain for the end of the week.

Our main problem right now is with the warmer temperatures the snow pack in the back country is highly unstable and Environment Canada is warning people to be careful in the back country as avalanche risk is very high.

They are. There was a report on the news last night of two off duty police officers from a little place called Oliver. They were caught in one. One died and they can't find his body but the other was saved. He's in hospital.

They had all the right equipment with them and had all the back country training but still got caught. The survivor was wearing a beacon that went off but he was slammed into a tree by the snow. One of his arms was out of the snow which is how search and rescue found him.

Oliver only has 10,000 residents and small local police force.

Meh... At least right now, I'm not seeing anything too bad on the reports near me. It only feels cold today at 41 degrees because I was down by my brother's yesterday and the high was 56 degrees. Got a few days with the highs in the 30's but like 5 days in the 40's after that. Followed by some pretty normal cold temps for these parts this time of year.

After what we went through Christmas to New Year's week, I don't see anything at all in the rest of the winter reports that look even mildly concerning.

But now I've jinxed it, haven't I?

BTW... I had my thermostat set to 45 degrees for the last 3 days while I was gone, and I'm fairly confident it didn't even go off in between that time.

Not that I ever actually look forward to getting any bills, but it's going to be really interesting to see how well I did this month about a week from now, and even more interesting when I get the energy efficiency report about 2 weeks after that.

Impossible to guess at this point how much less I paid this month than last January's bill because of the wild fluctuations in Natural Gas, but in Illinois by my family the cost per therm was only about 2/3rds what it was the month before, so it might be possible that it was $50 or more cheaper than my bill last year when I get it.

That's probably not the case, but I'm confident in saying it was at least $20 less than last year, despite the higher prices.

I think he means after this next storm. This is kind of a one-month, general trend forecast. For us, I think that means "don't expect any rain after this next one, for at least a month".

How did mahjong go this week?

Well, I refuse to set the thermostat any lower than 67F . I'm still a little anemic and I'm chilly anyway. Hubby OTOH runs hot. Sometimes we have "the battle of the thermostats".

That chaurleg that I kicked two days ago... I either broke or jammed my baby toe and the one next to it. Black and blue bruises up into my instep. It makes walking oainful. How frustrating!

How much per therm are you paying out there??? I know you say you need it at 67 degrees below, but I'd imagine it would take so few therms to keep it that temperature for you during the winter that the bill wouldn't be that big even it it were a big difference from last year. Am I wrong about that?

LOL... I watched my dad have that battle with my step-mom remotely while I was at my brothers. She was turning the heat up higher than he ever allows it to be (70 degrees) while he was gone, but he can just log in remotely and turn it back down.

I got a new soundbar on the cheap that I just hooked up too.

Wow!

Anybody who doesn't have a cheap soundbar on their flat screen TV needs one. What a world of difference it makes. You don't even need to have subtitles on anymore because of the way it processes the sound. Those flat crappy speakers they need to put in the slim TVs just can't compete with the larger ones they could put in the old CRTs and projection screens. I thought I was losing my hearing a bit, but now I'm beginning to doubt that.

I don't really watch any TV or movies, so that's not what I even got it for. It will just be a bonus when somebody is visiting.

What I really wanted it for works better than I could have hoped too. I have an old cell phone from my mom that has all my music. I use it with crap headphones when I'm outside working on the yard.

Within seconds I was able to tether it to the speaker via bluetooth and now I can listen to all my jams on shuffle with a speaker that I could hear in any room in the house. Really nice bass too considering the pricepoint.

Wish I bought 4 of them now.

Put the final coat on the 2nd color of that piece of furniture I've been working on, and got the first coat on the garnishes. Needed to pull out my set of artist brushes for that. Still quite a bit away from being finished with it because of the extra care and attention this piece is getting, but it's been enjoyable to work on.

Looks like my buddy needs my help tomorrow, so I've got to start getting myself ready for an early morning.

Raining here. Today, tomorrow, and Monday and then probably no rain for at least a month. But, as you say BRENDA- we shall see!

So good days for indoor stuff.

I tried vacuuming with our big old Eureka cleaner but noticed it was spitting more dust than it was collecting. So I checked... yep, the bag was chock full of dust. Replaced that. Still not working. Removed the old HEPA filter thinking something was blocked. STILL not working. Finally daughter informed me she had switched the vacuum from "floor" to "hose" but didn't switch it back again. Well, with a new bag and HEPA filter it practically sucks the floorboards off the floor.

But in digging around in my utility closet for that HEPA filter, it was such a jumble of air and water filters and mop heads and vacuum cleaner parts I FINALLY put things in containers so it's easier to access.

On with the next thing...

Rental buddy.

Spent the day on my knees scrubbing and sponging cat piss off the HIGH baseboards in two rooms. It's pretty much a mansion (with a maid's room, even), and these baseboards are quite intricate and go up two feet high. My buddy didn't even know that it was cat piss all over the walls. He thought they just pissed on the floor. But I lived with 7 cats at my grandmas and I know what I got myself into.

Beyond gross. These people were total pigs.

I can tell he's suffering some severe burnout by working on the house after his full time job every night. I gave him a lot of praise with how far it's come since 3 or so weeks ago since I was last there. He really has made a ton of progress. There's just so much left to do though, and he doesn't have the luxury of time like I've got.

I'm going back there tomorrow. At least there's still a lot to clean. I don't want to do any more sanding of walls and ceilings. He can do that while I clean up cat piss. I'd much rather be cleaning cat piss.

Oh gosh, I know the feeling!!! Poor guy! Did you or he ever take "before" pictures? Sometimes it's hard to tell how far you've come unless you can see where you've been.

In future, he needs to do not only a credit check but get multiple references from previous landlords, banks, employers, churches etc.

Cat pee stinks! It's all if those amines and ammonia compounds. Try putting a cup of distilled white vinegar into a couple gallons of rinse water. The vinegar (acid) should react with the amines (base) and neutralize the smell. Worth a try, anyway.

You're a good friend for helping out. Your buddy sounds like he needs more rescuing before he's not drowning anymore.

I keep telling him to take pictures, but he never listens to me. I never remember to bring my camera and really it's kind of too late now. He just doesn't see the progress that he's made because he's there every day. I think he needed me to tell him how much better it looks.

Yeah. Cat pee stinks. I lived with it for years. It was so bad there that it did huge damage to the hardwood floors too. Every time I go over there the house smells better. The basement finally doesn't stink anymore, and there's only a minor smell upstairs. Maybe it will be gone when I get all the baseboards clean. I'll see if he's got vinegar. I might actually have some myself, now that I think about it.

I hope all goes well!

Busy busy busy here with this and that. And helping daughter organize her stuff... slowly, at her place... but getting done.

Well, first I have to have a denture made. So I go back in February to have an impression made. And once I get the denture there will be adjustments for a bit but after that it will be just regular cleaning and exams.

Everything went really smooth today. They left another tooth that was in good condition and just pulled the broken pieces. If there were any roots to get they came out with the remains of the teeth. So no stitches or antibiotics needed. Just a little salt water rinse starting tomorrow and soft foods.

Boy... can I empathize with you here Brenda.

I just got my denture/partial reline done yesterday and basically starved myself since then other than a can of spaghetti o's that I found that somebody must have given me at some point because I never would have bought them. Crazy how good those taste if you're hungry.

SUPER EXPENSIVE to get it done, but I was about 2 1/2 years overdue and really needed them.

The top fit perfectly, but I had to go back this afternoon to get the bottom adjusted because I couldn't even put them in.

Overall, I think I'm pleased with them. I will have to spend a few days talking to myself to re-learn how to do it without the minor lisp that I've picked up with the new dimensions inside the mouth, but I expected that.

Meanwhile, I've got a misfire on my car now. My mechanic was able to take some time to analyze it today but he's probably not going to be able to work on it until at least Thursday, so no more driving for me until then. You can drive with a misfire short distances, but you're putting things at risk if you push it. So I got a couple of gallons of milk and some perishables while I was out and now it's just a waiting game. I'm sure as hell not leaving the car with him again unless I know he's going to be working on it IMMEDIATELY when I get there. At least the problem here is accessible from the top and won't require the rack. In fact, I was going to try to fix it on my own, but it's so damn cold in my garage that there's no way I can do it on my own right now.

I'm glad the broken bits are gone and that will be even better once the area is completely healed. One spot when I was chewing was starting to hurt and that was getting annoying.

Eating soft is only for a couple of days, so not to hard to do really.

Man, you and your car are just nothing but problems right now. That's a good idea on not leaving it with your mechanic.

Speaking of the dentist, I am starting to freak out the dental assistant. The dentist wanted an x-ray to double check the good tooth and because on the first ones, she thought she saw something. She did it was a stray root.

My response, "Of course there is something strange. You are talking to someone who survived brain surgery when she was 24."

Dental assistant was like, "Whoa. Was it cancer?"

I told him no but that is why I have a seizure disorder now. I also explained basically where the scar goes on my head.

Then of course they could see the scars from the wires when I had jaw surgery in high school. Another shudder when I explained some of that.

Yeah, poor guy. He's a nice guy too.

Wow. You've got male dental assistants?

I'm sure we got them here, but I've never seen one before. In fact, the two dentists I've ever had in my life were the only males in the place. The one I go to now is almost a full shop too, with a lot more employees than the first dentist. There are 3 hygienists, two women at reception, and the woman who does the molds for dentures and partials. Heck... there may even be an orthodontist in there too, which would make sense since they've got somebody on staff who could also do molds for retainers.

I really don't care much who my dentist is, although he is a really nice guy. I love my hygienist though. I already told her that even if I move down by my brother out of state I would make it back up here every four months for my appointments.

Yup.

I'm sure there are. The first time I went to have teeth pulled it was a male dentist but these last 3 times my dentist has been a lady. They were training a new assistant yesterday and she was female.

Think he is a hygienist too and like I said he is a really nice guy. Last time I was there he said I could squeeze his hand if I felt any pain. *L*

Not sure who will do the mold for me. Maybe him but that's not till the end of next month.

Most in this office are ladies it seems but they are all really nice and very good. So I have no complaints.

As always... good luck! I hope you get good tiles.

Good to see that the extraction went well. It sounds like your fentsi a very nice and that you're healing well. I hope that no more teeth get broken and that is the last of the extractions!

I don't have a lot of experience with my new dentist. I just switched last year bc my previous dentist was a little far away and it seemed like she was always trying to pump up the bill by doing unnecessary work. But I haven't been making dental appts bc there were just too many other spots to keep.
