Yeah. Hasn't been all that humid here this year though. Haven't had any rain for about a month. You know it's bad when I'm telling neighbors that we need rain.

Don't worry, derailments and distractions prevent me from burning myself out. I've been making a point to the family that I HAVE to get out and do yardwork while the weather is conducive, and they get it. OTOH they seem not to take that into account when they ask me to do stuff for them, like handle investments or schedule contractors or order supplements or cook dinner. If I manage to chip out 4 hours a week for landscaping it's a big deal.

Well at least your property works around your schedule then. If I only put 4 hours a week into my lawn I'd be losing ground every week.

Since we already know what windows we want, the only thng left is to get that second bid and then decide on the contractor, and I've been bugging this contractor to get me that info. If not arriving by Tuesday, he's out of the picture and he knows it.

It must be nice to have so many jobs that you can turn down work in this economy, huh?

I HAVE been busy tho doing online searches/window shopping for the bathromm remodel bc we have to decide on the finish materials, and for me the big decisions are the shower floor tile, the wall tile, and the bahroom floor tile. I'm looking for a shower floor option that means minimal grout and minimum slip, and so far I'm not finding it.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE GRAB BARS IN THE EQUATION!!!!

You probably already know that, but the extra $100-$200 or so you're going to spend on getting them installed are going to make everything showering easier and safer for you and your family.

And then there's the issue of color. It's a pretty dark bathroom, it has one tiny window that opens up to a breezeway and whatever natural light that filters in is a "cool" color. I think tones of gray (or blue) would look too "cold". Also, I like darker floors, and rooms with higher contrast between floor, furniture and walls (its a vision thing, it helps seeing what is where at a glance) so I'm thinking maybe darker brownish floor tile and a dark green furniture-style vanity (which I can re-finish myself) and cream subway tile walls and white quartz vanity top, tubs and (ofcourse) toilet.

what do you think?

Sounds good to me. I've never heard somebody say that about high contrast before, but that makes a lot of sense. Sometimes I don't have my contacts in when I'm showering and I'm blind as a bat without them. I haven't managed to stub any toes just yet, but my floor and vanity are both very dark and I suppose it would be an easy thing to do before I put my glasses back on. Especially during the winter when the bathroom gets fogged up and I can't put my glasses on right away.

Personally, I'm not much of a fan of earth tones inside the house, but that's just a personal and highly subjective opinion. I've seen brown tile done in other people's bathrooms and it looks great.

Yeah, Nova Scotia and Quebec have both asked and gotten help from anywhere that can spare it. Armed Forces have been dispatched as well to the east.

So just OOC how hot does your mini-heat wave get?

We've been mostly around 70F highs. Great yardwork weather, if I could actually get out.

You're welcome Sigs.

Sorry I'm not very helpful on the color stuff. I know what I like and I tend to stick with it. Most everything I paint these days has grey tones and white trim.

Really consider those grab bars though if you haven't already. I just put away the ones that I had pulled out that I was going to install at my grandma's during the spring. :(

Started and finished running the electric for, and installing both ceiling vent fans in the porch today.

Using a piece of electric wire, I was able to drill a hole directly in the center of the two ceiling tiles that I wanted the vents and shove the wire through the holes, and them from up top I was able to determine exactly where I needed to cut and how much I needed to build out from the joist to center them.

Weather changed on me today though and it got back up to 84 and sunny, so I was cooking in about 110 degree stale attic air for as long as I could take it before I needed to come down for a break while I was working up there. Long and miserable day, but boy does it look great!

I'm glad I took the extra time to build the joists out to get the vent grills centered perfectly inside the tiles. The grills were 9" and the tiles are 12".

Now all I have to do is get the exhaust tubes on them and I can finally finish insulating the ceiling and (hopefully) never have to go back up there for any reason ever again!!!!!

At least it won't last long. There is a slight chance of rain by Friday.

The worse spot to be heat wise will be in the Interior of the province that means around Kamloops and Kelowna. That are is expected to reach 37C which is 104F.

Boy... Working up in that attic and sweating all day must have really triggered my insulin response or something.

If it weren't for the momentary dip under 70 for 15 minutes late in the work, I'd have had my best day ever with my high in the morning already only being in the 150s before I started working. I was eating pretty late into the night to keep the sugar up, but I figured after I'd eaten past midnight that would be it after I went to sleep, but at around 2:15AM I woke up to the alert that I was under 90 again and I dipped down to 74 before my carbs I ate kicked in.

Usually around this time I'm around 135 and gradually rising until 9AM, not falling low.

I'll probably have to eat more carbs in the future when I have hard work days like I did today.

Dr. Endo today. I hate how all of these appointments are right in the middle of the day and waste so much time because of it. This one is a half hour later than the last two were.

Oh well...

Supposedly he's going to have some info and possibly a referral or two for me to people involved in modern studies for treatments of auto-immune diseases. I appreciated his candor over the phone when he admitted to me that it was beyond his area of expertise. My numbers look great though, and I'm down to 124mg/dL average over the last 14 days. In the meantime, I'm hoping he has some suggestions or a possible dosage/time change to try to get my sleep-time numbers where they should be. At this point, I'm living about 14-16 hours per day with great numbers while I'm awake and in control of them, after the morning high finally dips. I'm happy to see that the sleep-time numbers have been trending downward, but the girl at the Education Center who wears the insulin pump with her sensor lives her day between 90 and 110 awake or asleep and says that's where everybody with Type I should be. She seems full of energy and I wouldn't have even known she was Type I with a Pump had she not shared that, so I'm not going to argue with her. That's where I want to be, and I want to do it without a pump.

So since my day is going to be halfway burnt, I'm going to do my grocery shopping after the appointment, then I think I'll come back here and change into some work clothes and see about lugging about 10,000 lbs of river rock and pavers back to my place from the store.

High of only 74 today finally, and no rain until a potential thunderstorm later tonight. I hope we get it. We need the rain, badly.

Day is not going as planned.

Dr. Endo says nothing can be done about the rising sugar while I sleep. He also decided to take me off Metformin and Glipizide because I'm Type I, even though it's working with my exercise. I argued that, but he wants me to stop using it for 2 weeks and see what happens now that I'm active. He said that the Glipizide in particular can exhaust what's left of my pancreatic function. He also didn't have any referral for me. He wants ME to call a number given for a trial run for a new drug that has been approved recently by the FDA. I'm probably on my own for that one, although maybe I can get the Nutritionist and somebody on her team to help me out with it.

Not very happy.

Then it finally started raining, but 7 hours earlier than it should have, so I'm not going to be picking up all the rocks and pavers today since everything is beyond wet.

I got my exhaust tubes. Maybe I'll go out and try getting them and the rest of the insulation installed today so it's not a complete bust.

Sorry to read that your day was almost a bust. Days not going as planned is kind of the norm around here. But at least we're not totalling 16 Dr appts per month like we did one month this year already. So far, three appts this month, but I managed to double up two of them so it'll only be 2 drives, plus I have to drive sis in bc they don't want her driving after sedation.

I think your doctor has done as much as any doctor can who's not conducting a clinical trial. Sometimes you just run to the end of the road with what best practices can do. And in order to (possibly!) get better results you're going to have to find a researcher.

One area to look into is the association between Covid and Type I diabetes. Apparently the virus has latched into some people's beta cells and killed thode cells. FWIW the same has happened with the vaccine, but they both seem to be rare and dependent somehow on genes. The other possibility is that you inherited some sort of autoimmunity. Since your birth mom was dx with MS, (correct?) it could have come from her side of the family. It would be good to know your family's medical hx.

Wouldn't that be a kick in the head? I got diabetes because Democrats wanted Trump out of office and worked with China to spread a super cold and a bum vaccine.

I wonder if there's anybody I could sue for that since I never got the jab and I wouldn't be helpless because Big Pharma got immunity from lawsuits.

The one plus to my day was that my blood pressure keeps getting better every time I see somebody. Today it was 112/80. Before I got diabetes I never had a day under 135/95, and quite often it was more like 155/105.

I'm going to start reading up on Keto. I'm not going back to rapid-active insulin. I'm just going to un-learn everything the Nutritionist and her team taught me and figure out a way to live off of around 50 or 60 carbs per day. I'm already part-way there. I was told during the classes that I should be eating 180-200 grams of carbs per day. On my best day since those classes I had about 170 grams. Before I went to those classes, but after I had the continuous monitor at my disposal, I was getting less than 100 grams.

Believe it or not, no. I'd initially cut back but then went to what I drank before the diagnosis, more or less. I'm sure it can be attributed to the massive change in diet and probably to a lesser degree my actual workout sessions instead of just getting exercise when I'm working on something.

I don't want to be on insulin. I don't want to be dependent on it.

If the doctor isn't going to give me a prescription for oral meds that will help me with that, then I will find alternative means to make it happen.

I had around a 3 hour nap and woke up at around 8PM. I had a few chicken breasts and went back to sleep around 11PM. I just woke up to go to the bathroom after getting around 8 hours sleep in the last 11 so far, and my glucose level was 115. Normally by this time of morning, I'd be anywhere from 145 to 180.

I'd forgotten to take my Metformin and Glipizide before I went to the doctor and didn't realize it until I was in the waiting room. I haven't had any Metformin for 30 hours and any Glipizide for 42 hours.

Your body doesn't need carbs. It needs fats and protein. It is capable of making blood sugar from fat.

SIX, I've had a lot of experience managing a strict keto diet for our daughter for seizure control. She was not only limited to only 3 grams (yes, 3, not 30) of carbs per day, she was also limited in the amount of protein she could eat (12 grams) bc the body can convert some amino acids to sugar.

"Back in the day" before insulin was discovered the only available treatment for Type 1 diabetes was starvation. But it wasn't entirely successful either, since they tended to die early anyway.

Anyway, how long will you have your contiuous monitor? Bc that will tell you whether your blood sugar is going too high, even on 50 g/day carbs. You should also limit protein to a maximum of appx 1 g/kg, which for you means cooking up a bit less than a pound of raw meat (ground beef, chix breasts etc). per day

It can be a challenge to consume enough calories from fat without the addition of meat or carbs. Use pure fat in the form of heavy cream, coconut oil, butter, cooking oil, etc. Also take a multi vitamin since you may not be eating enough veggies.

I'm a little worried that it won't work, but you have your monitor and you have insulin on-hand so ideally you will be warned well ahead of time if things are going haywire. And if you don't let your stubborness get the better of you, you should be ble to correct blood sugar that's too high, or too low.

Here is a case study of type I diabetes and keto, but note that this patient is STILL O INSULIN. https://www.ccjm.org/content/88/10/547

Everything I just read says that insulin requirements can be reduced, but I haven't found anything yet that says that it can be completely eliminated.

If I ever get too low, I will eat carbs. That's what I'm already doing.

Before I was back on Metformin and Glipizide, I was dipping in the afternoon like I do now. My concern, now that he's taking me off of them, is that I'm going to start regularly seeing numbers above 200 while I'm sleeping again. And as soon as that starts happening I'm going to let him know that it is happening.

Meanwhile, I'll get the name of that drug and tell you about it.

I'm also going to try to get a different Endocrinologist and see if the DEC people can help me try to get on that trial.

My sis from near Bflo texted me this AM that the air around there is hazy and smells of smoke from Canadian wildfires.

And when I opened my news aggregator this AM, this is what I found:

"Everyone Should Avoid Outdoors": 100 Million Americans Under Air Quality Alerts As Canadian Wildfire Smoke Blankets East Coast

https://www.zerohedge.com/weather/everyone-should-avoid-outdoors-100-m
illion-americans-under-air-quality-alerts-canadian

The pix in the article are from NYC and Baltimore, but the worst smoke plume looks to be right on top of Bflo and further west. SIX, you might catch some of that!

But I can't figure out WHAT is burning. I went to maps looking for areas of serious drought. Yes, the plains provinces are suffering as are the martitime provinces, but Ontario and Quebec look mercifully free of drought.

The smoke plume looks to be originating from wildfires burning in northern Quebec, but I'm not seeing any corresonding drought. BRENDA, any idea what's burning, and why?

Before I was back on Metformin and Glipizide, I was dipping in the afternoon like I do now. My concern, now that he's taking me off of them, is that I'm going to start regularly seeing numbers above 200 while I'm sleeping again. And as soon as that starts happening I'm going to let him know that it is happening.

Meanwhile, I'll get the name of that drug and tell you about it.

I'm also going to try to get a different Endocrinologist and see if the DEC people can help me try to get on that trial.

Well... If there was going to be a day that I could eat carbs, today was it.

I got 165 fifty pound bags of river rock loaded into my car and then staged at my house and another 165 ten pound edging pavers. (9,900 lbs total, for those keeping score).

I managed it in only 8 trips. This time I did 20 bags per trip, which was one more bag per trip I'd worked up to last year when I was doing this. So I just had 5 bags on the 2nd to last trip when I split the pavers into only the last two trips. My car seems to be okay. We'll find out!

One more of my 3 major projects I wanted to get done this week while it cooled off. The only one left is putting up the crown in the porch. And I'm adding finishing off the porch ceiling insulation and exaust ductwork, since I don't want to wait until fall and who knows when it will get back into the low 70's for the high around here.

Cardiologist appointment tomorrow. Let's find out if I'm dying on another front, shall we?

The forests in Ontario and Quebec are burning and I am sure some of those fires are man caused. It is now prime camping season all over Canada. People start a camp fire and then go for a walk or a hike without putting it out. There were also those massives storms that rolled through bringing lighting along with the rain.

Meter is yelling at me, telling me I'm 89 now. I already ate 150+ carbs today. I'm not eating any more except for what little is in the vegetables that are cooking now. I plan on going to sleep in the 90s and figuring out what I need to do to make that a thing going forward without risking dropping too low below the 70s before my dumbass liver starts dumping sugar that I don't need.

Gotta fast, so the latest I can eat is around 1AM since I'm going to get my fasting blood work done before seeing the cardiologist tomorrow.

Well... The cholesterol test came back with GREAT numbers.

Still no word on my hyponvitaminosis for Vitamin D test yet.

Cardiologist didn't do much today. Put me on a scrip for a tiny amount of blood pressure meds for the diabetes, as well as some crestor and wants me taking baby asprin. He's got 3 tests he wants me to schedule and have done before I see him again in 2 months.

I had only 2 smokes and zero coffee before I went in there because of the blood tests. That being said, my freakin' blood pressure was only 110/64 !!!!!

Holy crap. This diet and exercise thing is really showing results, and fast.

So I did have 12 grams of carbs with my 12oz of vegetables in olive oil along with 2 1/4 lb burger patties. Some time after that I had 2 chicken breasts.

I thought I might have some peanuts before going to sleep, but I was out well before midnight and didn't get around to that.

By the time I went to sleep I was back up to around 90. It climbed up to 145 by the time I'd woken up at 7AM and somehow was still in that range when I woke up to an alarm I'd set for 8:30AM. By the time I left the doctor's office and got home it's down to 110, and I haven't actually done any workout or work yet. I didn't get anywhere near the 179 I'd peaked at yesterday morning... But maybe that's because of all the energy I burnt up hauling all of those rocks and pavers to my house.

I probably still have some residual Metformin and Glipizide in me while the half-life works its way out of my system, but maybe I can control these nightly rises by just cutting my carbs before 9:30PM or earlier and continuing with my daily injection of the long-active and still get to eat carbs in the afternoon until early night without the need for rapid-active shots... possibly even on days where I'm not super active.

Time will tell.

Wondering if Dr Cardio is going to pursue that possible historic heart attack with some of those other tests he requested, or if it's too far in the past to focus on, and he'sturning his attention to the future.

Yeah. In some ways probably better than a few decades as long as my heart isn't going to be an issue.

Got the Vitamin D test back and I was low, but only by a tenth of a point. When I looked it up online, for a male one organization varies from another on what is "normal" and 20mg/dL or above is normal, while the other is 30mg/dL or above. I'm at 29.9mg/dL, which my hospital considers low.

I have no doubt that during the winter when I'm not getting sun and I wasn't eating right and taking vitamins that I was lower than that. I'm curious to see what kinds of readings I get on any of these tests 6 months or a year from now.

Sounds like both. Hopefully there's no more bad news. At least my cholesterol levels are good though.

I wasn't able to eat many carbs today at all. I got started working late because of the doctor visit, and the work I did today was nowhere near the level of what I did yesterday. I only had about 80 grams of carbs.

I did manage to finish the insulation in the porch ceiling yesterday as well as putting the 8ft exhaust fan extensions down into the soffits. They pull out a LOT of air. I was actually using them to cool down at points while I was up there because despite the fact it was only a high of 72 degrees yesterday it was still a freakin' sweatbox up there.

So... I'm pretty officially done with my work up in the porch/shed attic, although I'd had about 9/10ths of an extra roll and between that and the small amount I'd still have to insulate up there above the porch because of what you can't insulate in the large opening for the drop-down ladder, I think I'd only need to buy 2 more bats of insulation. So if I catch it on a good sale again at some point I'll probably go back up to do just that. I don't know how much function that would actually have, but I am a bit of a completionist.

Today I think I'll at least attempt to put up the crown trim in the porch on my own. I don't know when my friend will find the time to come over and help. I know it's on his mind, but he's really got a lot going on with the new job and family obligations. My dad did say that he could help out sometime next week if my buddy can't make it there by then, which was pretty shocking to me since he usually doesn't volunteer for any assistance. Hopefully I can figure out a way to do it myself today and not put anybody out. It's tricky though because it's MDF baseboard trim that isn't designed to be installed flat on the ceiling. If it were regular trim, I wouldn't even be worried about doing it myself, but it's so floppy that not only am I worried about making a glue mess (I'll need a LOT of glue on it since the brad nails will be shot into the ceiling through the ceiling tiles), but I'm worried that if it flops too much on one end while I'm trying to get the other end up that it could actually make my one layer of primer and 2 layers of paint split and make a big mess for me to fix and make look right.

Then I should be able to get my friend to come over and help me swap out the fridges. It's more of a physical job and we really need to be careful about not screwing up any walls or my nice kitchen floor, but it would take a LOT less time than it will for me to be making all the cuts and other BS while somebody is just standing around in between helping me hold it up. If I were doing this in the house proper, it would also be much easier since the porch is anything but plum and level, and it's quite obvious I don't have exact 90 degree corners anywhere... so without having an engineering degree under my belt I'm going to be doing a bit of trial and error on my cuts.

After that, I have to decide if I'm going to keep my current stove or swap it out for the one I got from my neighbor last fall. Their stove is a lot better than mine, but two of the burners don't work, so I might just live with the devil I know and just haul that one out to the street for the scrappers.

Getting close to having my garage back.

If I decide today that the trim will be too difficult to do right on my own today, I will spend the time doing what is left of the cleanup and re-org of the garage that I can get done that doesn't require me starting any new projects.

Well, FINALLY got out to do some yardwork today. Two hours is about my limit for weeding and/or digging.
I think I'm gonna get those surveyor stakes out tomorrow and start figuring out which way I need to regrade. I think I'm gonna start at the downspout and work my way outwards since everything is going to flow from there.
Rough measuring the base of the tree mound, will need about 45' of rocks to stabilize the base. Really looking forward to getting into that and making some big changes in the yard.

Got the trim up on my own today.

Made some huge headway in cleaning up the garage too now that I could finally get the table saw on the workbench and put all the horses away.

I was going to pull my car in at one point and start loading tools back in the trunk, but I decided not to. I think tomorrow I'll get my good shop vac out there and clean it out real good. It needs it.

I'm going to patch up the trim first thing after I make a run to the grocery store in the morning, then I'll get to work on that. I'll also do a deep clean on the new refrigerator and plug it in out in the garage just to make sure it still works right before swapping them out.

I never did put the final coat on all the window and baseboard trim last year, so I'll clean all of that up real good after sanding down the patching on the crown and paint it all some time next week. I'm also going to clean the inside of all the windows real good so I can get my temporary paper blinds up on the front ones to hide the smart TV I'm going to put out there. It still won't have any finished floor, but other than that the room will be done and it will be really nice to sit out there and get all that fresh air.
