Got my last current doctor appointment I needed scheduling scheduled today. Trying to get a real Dr. as an Endocrinologist instead of the borderline street-doc who learned his practice back when JFK was president they stuck me with. Finger's crossed.

This sensor I've got is janky as hell too. Two mornings in a row now it fell beyond low only to shoot right back up again like nothing happened. This time it told me I fell to 41mg/dL from 130 in 15 minutes, and I was still 128 according to the finger prick. Sure enough, 15 minutes later my readings were back up over 130 on the sensor. At least this sensor isn't just flat out crapping out and saying "sensor error" for a half hour to an hour at a time like the last one did. But I can't trust it at all for legitimate readings.

I'm going to need to get more testing strips. I didn't even use any for nearly 40 days while the first 4 working sensors did their thing, except to very occasionally test that they were matching up. I've burned through about 25 of them since last Thursday with these two bunk sensors though. These both came from the same lot number, so maybe there was a problem with the batch.

At least, I hope that's what's happening here.

Battery??

You have a sensor and an amplifier in there somewhere to produce a readable signal.

One thing I've seen that makes a sensor/amplifier unit crap out is bad grounding or broken ground line. Well, that's not the case with your sensor bc it's not grounded, but it DOES use the battery as a voltage reference as well as a power source. Sometimes all it takes is cleaning the battery contacts bc if they build up a little corrosion it throws in a resistance that the unit wasn't designed for. If it's a normal AA or AAA battery(ies) just spinning them in place will often do the trick. If you have a button battery you might need to take it out and clean both the battery and the contacts with a paper towel. If that doesn't work, try changing the battery.

I don't think the battery is the problem, but once I try a sensor from a new lot I'll at least know if the problem persists or not.

You are completely unable to change the battery on these. They're designed to work for 90 days (or 10 sensors). They're also designed not to allow you to start up a new sensor with it if it detects a problem or it is low on juice.

I do clean off the transmitter contacts with alcohol wipes in between sensors and let it dry, as per the instructions.

There's no wired connections. Inside the plastic enclosure (above the adhesive pad) where you snap in the sensor is two black contacts. On the back of the transmitter is two matching silver contacts that you clean with the alcohol wipes. It's designed in a way where you can put part of the transmitter in and snap it into place without getting any of the (what I assume to be) dielectric grease in between the contacts. That clear gel needs to be in there I'm sure to keep the unit from shorting out when you take showers or take a dip in a pool.

Once snapped into place, I don't believe you can take out the transmitter without ruining the sensor. The way it's designed is to snap tightly into the sensor once you've installed it into yourself. When it's time to change sensors, you peel it off like a bandage, and you can snap the plastic enclosure in half and slide the transmitter out so you can clean it and use it in the next sensor. If you were able to keep taking it out and putting it back in I don't think you'd be able to make or maintain a watertight seal on it for 10 days.

I'll bring up the possibility of a faulty transmitter/battery if I have to call customer service about another one from a different lot number.

Hopefully one day you don't even need batteries for these things anymore. I mean, it does plug right into your body. If they were able to find a way to make it low powered enough they could probably get all the juice they needed right out of the rod that is injected into your abdomen.

Ah,the wonders of a long heavy crowbar (or sturdy spade) and a heavy-duty hand truck and maybe a little help. The biggest piece is about maybe 3' long, 1 1/2' wide and 4" thick. It's solid stuff, poured back in the day before they used rebar. Hubby guesses somewhere in the realm of 3500-5000 psi. I'm bad at estimating sizes so I can check tomorrow, but all the other pieces are maybe half that size or smaller. For me the bigger trick is where am I gonna put all this stuff? Build a seating area on the other part of the yard?

Oh, totally. Around here it helps to water o'wise the dirt can be rock hard.

But I'm not going for finesse and trying to pull out all of the roots- except the effing Bermuda grass. Right now I'm just spading and raking it up to get the lay of the land, so to speak, bc I couldn't tell where the dirt was.

Me,I'm just trying to lose a few pounds. I lost a lot on chemo and surgery took off a few pounds of boob and radiation cost a LOT of calories, but now that food tastes as good as its going to considering I have no sense of smell (can't tell garlic from vanilla but I can still taste sweet, salty, sour, bitter, umami, and hot stuff) I've been slowly putting on weight. I'd like to say it's muscle. If only!!


Dropped some stuff of at someone's house in the foothills, and they knew I needed some rocks to stabilize the tree mound, and they offered me a pick. DAMN! but there are lots of rocks there! No wonder they built everything out of these mostly rounded river rocks... walls, foundations, pillars. Anyway, I took my trusty hand truck and got a couple the size of small watermelons and a few smaller ones and I'm gonna go back for more next month. We went out to lunch later and had a NICE time!

CT scan shows some weird calcifications in my lungs, not cancer, but I've never had them before. Maybe it was metastisized tumors that got whacked by chemo and calcified over? Blood test coming up to see if my blood sugar and cholesterol are under control and if my kidneys are still "improved". But I try not to worry about that too much, just take care of myself and do stuff for the family. There's always something to do.
