Out in a bit for my walk. Need something proper for supper tonight and see what else there maybe around that I need. At least it is sunny. A very slim chance of rain on Sunday. And most of the province is still at extreme for fire. Also sitting at level 4 or 5 for drought. We need the rains bad but not atmospheric rivers that can destroy highways.

Thanks Sigs.

Yeah. I'm not one who likes to share the negative vibes or look for sympathy either. I'm sure this isn't the first time that I've stayed largely out of the Garden even though I was still here, but I do realize it's been long enough to make you wonder this time.

I'll get it together. You can't keep people you love from leaving, and outside of that there's nothing in my life so broke it can't be fixed.

Well...

Except my coffee pot.

... and my George Foreman grill.

Got my new pot and grill today. I'm already looking forward to chicken dinner tonight.

I saw my new endocrinologist today. What a huge upgrade!

He's fresh out of doctor school and looks like a kid to me. I told him at one point in my life I went about 19 years without seeing a doctor and when I came back a lot of them were half my age and somewhere along the way I got old.

I got him fresh, and it's apparent he isn't jaded yet and gives a shit about the job. Not one single time while I was there did I feel like I was being rushed out the door as quick as possible, which is something that happens even with the doctors that I considered good before.

He wants at least two glucagon pens in my possession. One for at home and one to carry around on me when I'm away from home. He said there's other options besides the super expensive epypen style ones that you need to mix first and he's going to get those to me. They require a little bit of work, but at least I'll have something better to tell friends and family to do for me if I ever pass out other than "I dunno... call an ambulance". I haven't really been worried about that anyhow though since it's been over a month since I even needed to take any glucose tablets. I've pretty much got this thing all under control, but it doesn't hurt to have some insurance.

We're also trying an insulin pump. We've been floating that idea around for going on 5 or 6 months now, but it all happened in a few hours this morning. I went to the pharmacy about 45 minutes after my appointment for a scrip that was ready for me yesterday and he already had the new pump waiting for me. A rep from the company called me about a half hour later and within a week from now I should be meeting with them for training on how to use it.

It sounds AMAZING. It's self-learning, and after several pods are used it starts building a profile on how my body "works". It will actually know to the .05 how many units of insulin to give me at different times of the day and night when my body behaves differently how much insulin I'll need when eating and not eating.

That's awesome. Right now I can't take any less than a full 1 or 2 units depending on which type of insulin I'm taking, and this thing goes down to 1/2 of 1/10th of a unit! No more long-active shots either. This thing will handle it all and will virtually be an external pancreas from now on. I'm going to be part cyborg.

I'd still have to make it give me some insulin ahead of time if I'm going to eat a large carb meal by letting it know ahead of time what I'm eating, but since I hardly take any rapid now with my diet that might not really be necessary most of the time.

The best part is that the days of having higher blood sugar while I sleep should be a thing of the past, and it sounds like with the way that I'm already kicking ass on the glucose readings this thing is going to make everything easy peasy.

We did an A1C while I was there too, and it's 6.4%. That's down from 11.9% when I first saw a doctor. It's also .3% higher than my CGM said it was, so that is something to keep in the back of my mind. Although, this was not from actual lab blood work. Whatever test they did was in between the accuracy of a finger prick stick reading and actual lab work.

He's thrilled about it though. He said that even though they say they want diabetics under 7% he'd be telling me that he wanted me between 6 and 6.5% at my age, but he would have been happy with a 6.7%. I'm sure with this pump working overnight while I sleep to keep me around 110 instead of my sleep-time peaks of 130 to 170, I'll probably be under 5.9%, which would be healthy person numbers (5.9% is considered pre-diabetic).

I can only manage my sugars while I'm awake, and I've felt like I've been held hostage by my liver overnight up until now. This should be the thing that gets me where I want to be.

Oh... and he's also looking into a clinical trial for me about a drug that inhibits the GAD65 from killing off the rest of my pancreatic function. He's going to see what hoops we'd need to jump through to get me into the trial. It's all pretty experimental still, but he said he's familiar with the class of drugs and what they're designed to do and there are little to no side effects from them. The only real downside he said is that they don't work for everybody.

I'm game. Sign me up.

Wow SIX, you got a gem. Sounds like your new doctor is kickin' #ss! I knew somebody at work who was married to someone on an insulin pump, and she wound up having an uneventful pregnancy and a healthy baby, so I know they work! I'm hoping it's everything you want, and more.

Couple of interesting things happened today. This AM I saw a strange man walking thru our backyard and when I ran out and confronted him he said some guy named "John" out front wanted him to pick something up. So I told him "I don't have any neighbors or contractors named John. Get out! Get out! Get out!" and I chased him towards the gate. Then I cut thru the house and out the front door where he was already at the street and yelled to him "Where's John!?" and then I grabbed my phone and yelled "I'm gonna take your picture!" He turned and ran .. right into a swarm of police cars! Apparently somebody had already called him in and the Po-lice were waiting for him! I told them he'd been in my backyard, went and fetched my DMV license so they could verify my ID, and then I went home. I was high on steroids and a bit more aggre than usual!

This evening I rescued a baby skink (long tailed lizard) from the office floor. It was looking kinda dehydrated and I tried to get it to drink, but all it wanted to do was sit in a nice warm puddle in my hand. Turns out skinks absorb water thru their skin and LOVE to bathe (and pee, and poop) in puddles. That explains why it was looking considerably plumper when I put in in a little container with a foil lid. Considering that lizards and turtles can harbor salmonella, I'm gonna keep my hands washed after handling the critter! I'd like to see it eat before I release it, the thing is TINY, not more than 2" long and half of that is tail!

In the meantime researching small claims and CSLB to receive $ from a contractor, and am quickly improving with meds

Walked the dog and checked on the lizard/skink (it might be a male fence lizard bc I saw a little blue on its throat) and it's still alive but hasn't eaten yet. It was busy hiding in its hidey hole.

Thoroughly scrubbed off a couple of kitchen window ledges that were filthy, and tossed, recycled or put away the clutter that tends to collect there. Walked the dog Cut up a chicken and frozen half, keeping the other half for tonight's dinner, and put two carcasses in the pot to cook and strip off for dog food, and then continue to cook into bone broth.

Need to sort and toss the bad avocados bc trash day tomorrow.

Not sure if I'm going to do the overhead fan blades or vacuum around the edges of the whole house next. Probably vacuum, if I have the time.

Got my garage super clean and organized today, and threw out another 2 cans of trash. I think that's about all the organizing and dehoarding I can do now. I need to work on some projects if I want to clear it out totally now.

Finally mowed the lawn. It was long.

I started the vacuuming and I did some bedroom decluttering along the way. Among other things, too many shoes that my feet can no longer tolerate bc of neuropathy, some too worn to give away but some acceptable. But then I got roped into helping to fix a rayon shirt, so I had to iron on some interfacing on the placket. Will have to do little things tomorrow bc I have a Dr appt at an awkward time of day, bigger projects to continue Wednesday.

Good luck at the Dr. appointment.

It appears that mine are finally winding down. The Cardiologist is going to see me again in March, and I'm going to do a stress test before I see him. Things seem alright now, but he wants to do more testing and a follow up. Can't be too serious if there's no hurry on it, I figure.

New Endo wants to see me in a few months for a follow up, likely just to see how the new pump is working out since that's not long enough to do another A1C test. I figure after these visits it might be a once a year thing since the diabetes isn't much of an issue anymore.

Hopefully he's looking into that trial for me. I'll probably contact him in a month or so if I haven't heard anything from him.

Busy morning with regular chores walking and feeding the dog, checking on Fred the lizard, making hubby b'fast, and (my least favorite chore) picking chicken off the cooked carcasses for dog food, which is tedious and messy. But the bones and skin are simmering again for bone broth, and small jars are packed away in the freezer so that's something I won't have to do in a while. Dishes, then doctor.

I'm on my fifth day of a 6 day course or oral steroids, 14 day course of clarithromycin, and 30-day course of steroid nasal rinse, and it's AMAZING how well I sleep when I can breathe! I probably hadn't gotten a good night's sleep in months.

* does a happy dance *

Well, not so upset as before. Part of it was coming off steroids. Steroids make me feel ebulliant, energetic and (in this case) allowed me to sleep well.
But the other thing is, after going thru 5 bottles of saline rinse solution I managed to rinse/blow out a 1/4 t or more of scabs, clots, and yuck stuck like concrete up my nasal passages. So altho I don't think my sinuses are open just yet, at least I can BREATHE! And what relief!

I let Fred the lizard out into the garden. He ate the fly I put in for him, but he wasn't a happy camper. Our house is just too cold and dark for him. So I put him in his little hidey hole (a piece of toilet paper roll, partly crushed) out in the garden in the sun, where he could come out and warm himself or head into the shade to cool off.
Good luck, Fred!

On a happier note, I must be on some kind of major monarch migration path. I've seen 4-5 in the backyard at a time, and one ginormous swallowtail.

Ugh, about the cramp. What I do for cramps is take a magnesium citrate capsule. Takes about 40 minutes to work but calms it right down and keeps it from re-cramping (which is what happens to me).

Up and about here too, finally. I slept gloriously, wonderfully late this AM. I think I've been reacting to the drop in steroid levels for the past three days. Five days of feeling on top of the world, three days of feeling like crap. Whooda thought that such a short course of a weak steroid would do that?

Anyway, much to do today, as usual. I tackled one part of that paperwork issue yesterday. Now I have to wait for 20 days until I can take the next step, so on to other things.

Today, in addition to the usual, I think I'll tackle the incoming mail basket, which is overflowing, and do some yardwork. SO much to do there I haven't decided what, but probably in the front yard, with the dog on a rope for company.

In my late-planted pollinator garden, the butterflies are echanted by the cosmos sulphreus
I'm not a big fan of orange, wish the seed mix was all yellow. But then, they're not for me, they're for bees and butterflies! Sunflowers are beginning to open and everybody likes them: native bees, honeybees, bumblebees, butterflies, moths. The cosmos bipinnatus are a month behind but when they start blooming it will be a riot of colors. This package illustration gives an idea of what they look like together

And when the cosmos are done blooming, the goldfinches will swoop in and eat the seeds.

Well, on to that mail basket! *sigh*

Oh, and walking the dog and making hubby's b'fast.

It's another lovely September day where I am but we sure could use some rain.

Beautiful flowers for the bees and birds in your garden SIG. I am sure they are very happy.

I just had to return something to the library again then get some batteries.

Laundry all organized for tomorrow but still hoping to clean off a couple of spots on the kitchen table.

Decided to do paper filing while everyone else is asleep. At least it's quiet and peaceful.

Well... back to filing!

Laundry done and walk in. I did manage to get one corner of the kitchen table cleaned off. Still one more to go.

Got quite a bit of filing done, and harangued hubby to get off his #ss and get me some important paperwork from one of his accounts.

Also got daughter to do something useful instead of playing games, and I blitzed the house with the vacuum, cleaned up the driveway, did a bunch of dishes and now gonna make dinner. Altogether a satisfying day.
*dusts hands*

Awweww....SHIT!

My cell phone crashed, hard. It flashed "phone is not responding" went black, and now it's stuck partway into restart. Won't turn off, won't step forward.

All my contacts... all my pictures... last backup was about 4 months ago.

Sigh!

Just a lazy Sunday around me. Still need to clear off more of the kitchen table. Might.

Also have to get a move on Christmas and birthdays into the mail.

Should also see about computer glasses. Still want to stick my face into the screen on this site and others. I have the zoom on this bumped up to 125. I checked that out a few nights ago.

Well! Hubby rescued my phone in short order. I COULD have waited 3-4 days for my battery to run down, but he expended it by hooking it up (thru a USB/SATA adapter) to a small high speed disk, which yanked it to zero in a few hours. Then, once it went dark, I started recharging it, and it booted back up in perfect condition.

YAY!!!

There must have been a MAJOR software conflict that caused it to crash, it happened right when I got two phone calls more or less at once, and then ... POOF!

I don't back up to the cloud, I manually back up to something else, but I hadn't done it in a while, and had since added a bunch of contacts and taken quite a few pictures.

It's all backed up now!

And for in the garden thread. My area of BC got RAIN last night. Everything is still wet out, so I will need a jacket for my walk.

I know. Suppose to get more tomorrow then clear for a couple of days with more rain over the weekend. I think the rainy season has started with the coming of fall.

Sweet, sweet blessed rain.

Back and done and I finally found a round table cloth and it is blue. Needs to be washed first as I know it will be covered in Febreeze and I can't stand that stuff. Now, I just need to clear off the table and get rid of that plastic flannel backed thing I've got on there.
