What to do kind of depends on how thick you need your spindles and dowels. They need to be heavy enough to keep kids from pushing thru and strong enough to support stair banisters.

For the dowels I guess the best thing to do is select better pieces of premade hardwood dowels from your local hardware store. But for staircases, he suggests going to a lumberyard, selecting your own stock, cutting it into square lengths on your table saw, and then using a router with a round over bit or quarter round to shape it into either a full circle or a rounded square. Maybe leaving the ends square which might make an easier fit into the stairs and banister.

Alternately, table legs might be an option altho I think they might be even more $$$.

Please be careful. I noticed a change in the tone of your posts and I'm concerned about you. If your AVERAGE is under 100 you could be flirting with 70 or lower, which is too low, and could lead to "angry drunk" behavior (a combo of not enuf sugar in the brain and too much adrenaline everywhere.)

That's the problem when you're always trying to be low... If the insulin is delivered too quickly for the quality carbs you're eating, you can get lower than you should be getting. But I didn't rush and take any glucose tablets. I let it sit for a while and it ended up getting back up to 115 on its own and then leveling out in the 90s again.

I didn't celebrate Thanksgiving more than a handful of times in about 2 decades after my uncle on my mom's side of the family died and the tradition was broken up and usually worked on the day when I had a job. But my friend's family invited me over last year and now it's become like our tradition and I really look forward to it. Haven't gotten a Christmas or Christmas Eve invite yet this year, but I'm still hoping it comes. I know that they fell out of the family loop with Covid themselves, so they may or may not be going somewhere else for Christmas now that everybody finally seems to have gotten over the Covid insanity.

Either way, my aunt and I are going down to visit my brother for a few days the week after Christmas. He doesn't come in for the holidays anymore after he got the cat that destroys everything, and she's never seen his place or the cool little town he lives in before.

Good. I hope you all have a good time.

Yeah. I just found out last night from my aunt she got her time off for sure. There was a possibility that it wasn't going to happen, but I guess we're good to go. Hopefully the weather decides to cooperate with our plans now.

It will be a little bit colder than the week before Christmas is going to be, but the bottom doesn't appear to fall out until after New Years Day. We just don't want to be driving in some snow storms is all.

Almost all of my relatives are 3000 miles away, and given our family health problems and hubby's complete household helplessness, I can't just hop on a plane and visit. All I can do is send cards and letters which are appreciated by the older generation, and texts and chats for the younger folks.

We had a scary medical crisis over the weekend, but daughter is now recovering. My rheumatologist has been looped into my sinus problem so I get to see Infectious Disease and Rheumatology both on the same day first week of January, and maybe I'll get to nail my situation down for good.

Sigh.

After a moment the ambulance attendant looked down and said 'Don't do that. 'Cause that's a whole lot of extra paperwork for us' "

At least I was happy to see that I wasn't having the same problems from the insulin pump pods. But there could have been a lot of other reasons for that too, since the pods don't inject metal into you and you change them every 3 days instead of 10 days.

It's funny ... so many of my cousins and their kids are moving back to the old hometown. The only ones NOT "back home" now are my cousin and his wife (NM), their son (working on a ranch in the southwest somewhere) and my cousin's one son (MI).

Wish I could go back home too.

I think you might be right. Also, I think tempering expectations and knowing what your limits with your tools and budget as well as your skills are is important too. It's one thing to be able to visualize things, but they need to be grounded in reality.

That's not something I was always able to do very well. I remember making posts in here back when fff.net was still very much more alive with Wish and JO about the work I was doing and thinking how cool it would be since there's no proper dining area in my house layout to turn that room you see in my basement into the set of the mess hall on Firefly.

Yeah. Not tired so much as sore. I can't even explain that position very well in words, but a lot of the time was the left hand extended over my head somewhere for balance as I would lay down after dipping my brush and getting paint on the main base before it dripped so I could be almost eye-level with the quarter round shoe and make sure I was cutting it all the way to the bottom without brushing the floor or dripping paint onto it.

Add to that, the living room is the largest room in my house, and because I had stuff plugged into walls while I was working I had to get into some REALLY awkard positions around all those wires. And corners are a big 'ole pain!!!

Yesterday wasn't any better than the day before either. I thought I could get away with not having to be so careful to get all the way to the bottom of the shoe on the 2nd coat, but it probably took me even longer because I did a better job lighting up the room and saw all the spots where I didn't actually get to the bottom of it and had to make that right. Really.... just a bunch of crazy work since I couldn't see that anything was missed at the bottom when my eyeballs weren't 2 feet away from it and nobody who's been over even realized I'd never painted the baseboard in the first place until just now. (It looks so much better now... at least I'd hope that people notice something different when they next see it, even if they don't know what it is... like when you get a new haircut and you're trying to fish out a compliment from somebody who knows something is different. )


I'm tired too though. Haven't been sleeping very well for the last few days. And my Aunt called me at 6:30AM about something arguably important and I never really got back to sleep after that even though I had trouble finally falling asleep until after 2AM.

Oh well... Not going back to sleep now.
