You mean like Jacks health care needs. He has no job so he is living off the government teat. Trump is promising again to do away with the affordable care act.

Hey Jack, Biden is trying to get insulin down to 35 dollars a month for everyone. Like he has for seniors. You voting for Trump does mean you want to harm yourself because your healthcare will be gone. Too bad, but hey, you won't be angry anymore. You'll just be dead.

The Atlantic knows what way the wind is blowing.

They're not wrong. Sotomayor should retire now so you can put a young liberal on the court while you still have a chance.

Did you miss the part about diabetes killing Sotomayor early? 6ix, you have a worse case of diabetes. You should be much more worried than Sotomayor about dying young, which is a thing Trumptards tend to do. We are all thankful when another smug worthless asshole Trumptard who can't hold a job dies.

My A1C is 5.6% to 5.8% and probably better than yours.

Don't worry about my diabetes. I'm managing it just fine, and I'm healthier than 90% of Americans even with it.

Once again, this thread is about the 2024 Elections. Not about your obsession with my personal life.

If you two goons had anything legitimately positive to say about the last 3 years the country as a whole has endured under its current "leadership", this election wouldn't be about Trump or people who vote for him, and it certainly wouldn't be about me personally.

Get a fuckin' life and deal with the fact Democrats are about to lose. Bigly.

ETA:

Also, there's zero evidence in the link you provided that my case of Diabetes is any worse than Sotomayor's. She's been Type 1 since she was 7 years old.

Quote:

She’s been in the news for her T1D life occasionally over the years, from book promotions to the news of her hypoglycemia event that required paramedics’ help, and when she started using a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) and her smartphone app beeped during the court’s oral arguments.

I've never required paramedic's help for hypoglycemia. When I first started managing my disease I did have some highs and lows while I was learning, but I'm at the point where I manage an average glucose in the 90s, while staying within my self-prescribed range of 60-160 99% of the time. I had to alter my monitor to do that, because the average they want you to be within is 80-180.

I'm not a dummy and I'm not going to end up needing paramedic's help like she did.

I can sympathize with her app going off during her work though. You can't even use the app if you put it on silent. It will wake me up at night on occasion to let me know that I'm getting low. She needs to manage her disease better, especially when she's working. There is a HUGE range of glucose levels you can fall between and not get loud alerts while you're working. The fact that I didn't even know about this incident until just now and you don't hear about this happening to her all the time would lead me to believe that she learned from this mistake and she hasn't let it happen again. This is good, since she has a job with a lot of eyeballs always on her. Good for her.

Quote:

Remember back in 2009, when Sotomayor was going through the nomination process and there was that TIME Magazine headline: “Sotomayor’s Diabetes: Will it Be a Handicap?” As DiabetesMine’s Editor Amy Tenderich wrote at the time: “Hell, no. Being a judge is a desk job, for God’s sake — all she needs is can of regular Coke handy, just in case.

I agree with the sentiment. There's absolutely nothing keeping her from working a desk job with T1D. But again, she shouldn't need to have a Coke on hand. She shouldn't ever even be drinking soda of any kind for any reason. Nobody should, honestly. There are much better options available for diabetics to keep on hand in the case they let their blood sugar get too low.

People with zero willpower that have diabetes use low blood sugar to justify consuming soda and candy bars. That's bullshit.

The problem is that Trumptards have troubled lives (see the past 50 years of Trump's for examples of troubled), which follows from their health defects, their lives shattered by divorce/drugs/alcohol/sex/gambling/tobacco/consumerism/gluttony/etc., and the generalized purposelessness of their lives. 6ix, it is absolutely unsurprising that you don't work. For the Trumptards that I know who do work, they don't see any meaning in their jobs beyond the money so that they can get high after work. It is predictable they would attach themselves to Trump. He and they are the same, just separated by $billions. Trump has spent his life getting high, too, just like his Trumptards.

The key election for Russia is in November

The outcome of the Russian presidential vote was expected and won’t change the Russian status quo; the US election could.

By Leonid Ragozin | 19 Mar 2024

https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2024/3/19/the-key-election-for-russ
ia-is-in-november

The Kremlin framed what essentially is the incumbent’s self-reappointment as a plebiscite on the war in Ukraine.

Trump’s election victory could be more consequential for Russia in a different way. His return to power would mean the American public has decided to take the path of sovereignism and nativism, of national and corporate interests explicitly trumping values at all times. This would signal a new era for the rest of the world, especially for Europe.

In this new world, Putin would be seen less as a rogue leader and more as an early pioneer of the new global political paradigm and definitely as someone the US could make a pragmatic deal with – and not only on Ukraine. It will vindicate his position after decades of isolation and ostracism and restore his membership in the club of world leaders.

In this sense, there is more at stake in the US election for Putin and Russia than in Russia’s own.

On the bright side, the belated realisation that Russia represents a grotesque manifestation of the Western crisis of values, rather than its own inherent evilness, may help those in the West who still cherish universal values to begin a critical reassessment of Western policies towards Russia in the last 30 years.

The Russian opposition has a lot to say about how the unholy alliance of irresponsible oligarchy and paranoid securitocrats can undo democratic institutions and other achievements of civilisation. Its experience will be of great value in the process of forming a global coalition to oppose creeping authoritarianism and to uphold universal values, rather than geopolitical interests.

I do not for one second believe that you are stupid enough to post your personal mychart results online for me to figure out exactly who you are. Not only that, but the A1C test is not part of any basic or comprehensive metabolic panel tests. Unless there was a significant problem with your health, your doctors would not even prescribe A1C lab work for you.

Lucky for you, you have no idea how computers work, so the only thing that would come up if somebody clicks on the link you provided is a login page to Houston Methodist's MyChart.

Normally, it would go without saying, but... Please do yourself a favor and do not provide anybody here or anywhere else with your login credentials to see your tests results for themselves.

And BTW... even if you do somehow manage to have only a 5.1%, I'm not impressed because that's your body doing the work for you as it should.

According to NIH, here's the statistics of A1C in Type 1 Diabetics in the US:

Quote:

Of the 12,035 adults with type 1 diabetes in the T1D Exchange EHR database, 23% had an A1C <7%, 44.5% had an A1C of 7–9%, and 32.5% had an A1C >9%. Characteristics of these adults by A1C are shown in Table 1. Those with an A1C >9% were significantly younger and more likely to be Non-Hispanic Blacks, experienced more DKA and SH events, and had more depressive symptoms (P <0.001 for all). They also had lower BMIs, were less likely to have private health insurance, and were less likely to use CGM and insulin pump therapy compared with individuals with an A1C <7% (P <0.001 for all).

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9845074/

23% have an A1C <7%.
44.5% have an A1C between 7-9%
32.5% have an A1C above 9%

They don't even bother figuring out how many fall into categories below 7% because it would make people's fee-fees hurt if they showed people like me in the 5% range that are under 6% and the <1% range that live their life in the high end of the normal range for people who don't have diabetes.

That's impressive, because unlike you, I actually have to work at it.

6ix, you are so smart! As are all Trumptards! Just ask their opinion of themselves! Exactly like my medical records, brilliant you could see my bank account at https://www.bankofamerica.com/ . . .
if you knew my password and user name and have cloned my phone, which verifies I'm me if I log in from a computer I never used before.

But some people's opinions are that Trump, the original Trumptard, is not as smart as his latter-day Trumptards such as 6ixStringJack:

Donald Trump is an infallible judge of character, but his cabinet contained people who called him a “fucking moron," “idiot," "an idiot surrounded by clowns," “dope," "kindergartner," "idiot," “patient in an adult day care center," “empty vessel," “like an 11-year-old child,” "sixth-grader, “idiot," “crazy," and “goddamn dumbbell." -- Bill Maher

Democrats should recognize their very real advantages

By Jennifer Rubin | March 15, 2024

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/03/15/democrats-advantage
s-biden
/

This week, I review Democrats’ considerable campaign advantages that they might not fully appreciate, choose my distinguished person of the week and share something off the beaten path.

What caught my eye

Democrats — freaked out by premature polls, despondent over delays in former president Donald Trump’s trials and still suffering from flashbacks of the 2016 election — are prone to forget the considerable advantages their own side has over his MAGA cult following. To say polls show President Biden would lose “if the election were held today,” is silly. The election isn’t today, and its outcome will largely depend on what happens between now and then.

The election is no more predetermined eight months before Election Day than a Super Bowl winner is decided before the start of the regular season. Considering how much a single speech, such as the State of the Union, or a criminal conviction in one of Trump’s four criminal indictments might change perceptions, no one should underestimate the array of factors that will affect the direction of the race.

As Donald H. Rumsfeld famously said, there are known knowns (e.g., a MAGA movement cocooned from reality), known unknowns (e.g., whether Trump will be convicted) and unknown unknowns (e.g., an international event, a natural disaster necessitating a federal response). Faced with uncertainty, people seek refuge in irrelevant polling. Time is better spent sizing up the comparative advantages of the two sides, which, over time, take on larger significance.

We are all too familiar with Trump’s iron lock on his cult following and the media’s obsession with normalizing him. Shamelessness, some would say, is a superpower. But Biden has real advantages (in addition to sanity, a good governing record and experience) that Democrats should not take for granted. Since the State of the Union, several of these lesser-known advantages have become more evident.

First, Biden has self-awareness. He knows he is old and can joke about it. He and his team understand just how underestimated he is, making it easy to defy expectations. His opening ad was a tour de force in self-deprecation. A little self-awareness and a sense of humor go a long way, as evidenced by the edgier Biden media operation (e.g. Dark Brandon, the “presidential advice” video).

Trump, by contrast, fails to grasp when he is babbling, giving ammunition to his opponent or further incriminating himself. (The lack of self-awareness shows throughout the Republican Party and leads to missteps, such as the ridiculed response to the State of the Union.) Trump’s cluelessness might become more damaging to him as time goes on. His temper tantrums in courtrooms and boasts about his tyrannical agenda hurt him outside of his hardcore base. In sum, one campaign is flying blind, utterly dependent on a narcissistic figure degenerating under pressure; the other can adjust, improvise and compensate.

Second, Biden has concrete advantages in resources. He landed a mammoth fundraising haul after the State of the Union, and none of his reserves need to be diverted toward astronomical legal bills. He has cohesive and functioning state parties, unlike Trump, and an impressive state-by-state operation to turn out the vote and marshal volunteers, something Trump also lacks so far. Biden hit the airwaves with a $30 million ad buy and has already staffed personnel in key states. Biden’s ability to travel anywhere as frequently as he wants (and hence run a more, not less, vigorous campaign than Trump) and tout popular projects will also bolster him as the election draws near.

Biden also benefits from the enormously effective surrogates such as Jill Biden and the more combative, confident Vice President Harris, who connects with key parts of the Democrats’ base. That’s not to mention polished members of the administration and other elected Democrats (from Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to California Gov. Gavin Newsom). Some even go on Fox News (!) to reach members of Trump’s audience, giving them news they would never hear.

Trump, on the other hand, could not even keep Truth Social from crashing during the State of the Union, which deprived Trump of his rapid response. He is low on money, behind on organization and even now keeps bad-mouthing mail-in voting, a critical turnout mechanism. This week, he fired a slew of experienced staffers from the Republican National Committee, no doubt to be replaced by MAGA loyalists. Expect unquestioned obedience, once again, to replace competence as the chief criteria for Trump’s staff. (He rarely hired “only the best” people.)

Third, there is something to be said for optimism and good cheer. Trump paints America as a hellscape; his view of a racial invasion and rampant crime (that is statistically nonexistent) is meant to keep his followers in a state of frenzy and despair. But the exhausting drama and aura of foreboding that hangs over Trump might not wear well. It surely didn’t while he was president and campaigning in 2020. Pundits sometimes portray Biden as offering “normalcy.” While it is not exactly “hope and change,” he does convey unalloyed faith in America and the promise of progress that Americans historically embrace.

It’s no coincidence that Vanderbilt professor and acclaimed author Jon Meacham, Biden’s historian-on-call, is around to help channel the president’s natural optimism into a sweeping image of American resilience. “An encyclopedic historical recall and deeply studied presidential biographies give Meacham immense value to Biden,” the Nashville Scene reported. “The two openly embrace American exceptionalism and share a disdain for Trump, Biden’s political opponent and Meacham’s Lucifer, whose chief sins are contesting election results and marching on the Capitol.” Meacham and Biden are betting that Americans want to be proud, inspired and reassured by their president. If they are right, Biden will do just fine.

Biden’s advantages don’t guarantee he will win any more than polls this far out (and often within the margin of error) ensure Trump will win. But Biden’s true advantages make it more likely he will reach, inspire and persuade more voters than Trump. That, after all, is what campaigns are all about.

Why Trump’s case against George Stephanopoulos is politically risky

Many Republican voters have no idea that Donald Trump was recently held liable for sexual abuse. Trump's new civil suit might help change that.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/19/media/trump-sues-abc-news-george-stepha
nopoulos/index.html

George Stephanopoulos did what other mainstream news interviewers generally have not had the nerve to do: Confront a Trump supporter about Trump's adjudication for sexual abuse against E. Jean Carroll. To illustrate the tenacity required to hold Republicans accountable, it is worthwhile to quote at length his exchange with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.):

STEPHANOPOULOS: Congresswoman, thanks for joining us this morning.

You endorsed Donald Trump for president. Judges in two separate juries have found him liable for rape and for defaming a victim of that rape. How do you square your endorsement of Donald Trump with the testimony we just saw?

MACE: Well, I will tell you, I was raped at the age of 16, and any rape victim will tell you, I’ve lived for 30 years with an incredible amount of shame over being raped. I didn’t come forward because of that judgment and shame that I felt.

And it’s a shame that you will never feel, George, and I’m not going to sit here on your show and be asked a question meant to shame me about another potential rape victim. I’m not going to do that.

STEPHANOPOULOS: It’s actually not about shaming you. It’s a question about Donald Trump.

MACE: No, you are shaming me.

STEPHANOPOULOS: You've endorsed Donald Trump for president.

MACE: Right.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Donald Trump has been found liable for rape by a jury. Donald Trump has been found liable for defaming the victim of that rape by a jury. It's been affirmed by a judge. He repeated —

MACE: It’s not a criminal court case, number one. Number two, I live with shame, and you're asking me a question about my political choices trying to shame me as a rape victim and find it disgusting.

And quite frankly, E. Jean Carroll’s comments when she did get the judgment joking about what she was going to buy, it doesn't — it makes it harder for women to come forward when they make a mockery out of rape, when they joke about it. It’s not okay.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Doesn’t it make it harder for women to come forward when they’re defamed by presidential candidates?

MACE: It makes it harder when other women joked about it and she’s joked about it. I find it offensive. And also I find it offensive that you are trying to shame me with this question.

STEPHANOPOULOS: I’m not trying to shame you at all. In fact —

MACE: You are. I have dealt with this for 30 years. You know how hard it was to tell my story five years ago when they were doing a fetal heartbeat bill, when there were no exceptions for rape, incest or life — or — and — rape or incest in there? I had to tell my story because no other woman was coming forward.

STEPHANOPOULOS: I'm just asking —

MACE: No rape victims were represented. And you’re trying to shame me this morning.

STEPHANOPOULOS: I'm just asking you —

MACE: And I find it offensive. And this is why women won’t come forward.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Women won’t come forward because they're defamed by those who perpetrate rape. Donald Trump has been —

MACE: They are judged, and they’re shamed, and you’re trying to shame me this morning. I think it’s disgusting.

STEPHANOPOULOS: I’m — I’m not — I’m not shaming you at all. I called you courageous.

MACE: I told my story. It took me 25 years to tell my story. I was judged for it. I still get judged for it today.

STEPHANOPOULOS: I’m asking you a very simple question, explain what —

MACE: And I answered it. You’re shaming me for my political choices.

STEPHANOPOULOS: No, I’m not — I’m asking you a question about why you endorsed someone who’s been found liable for rape. Just answer the question.

MACE: It was not a criminal court. This was — this was a — it was a civil court.

STEPHANOPOULOS: It was a civil court that found him liable for rape.

MACE: And, by the way, she joked about the judgment and what she was going to do with all that money. And I find that offensive.

STEPHANOPOULOS: I'm asking you about the man who’s —

MACE: But as a rape victim who’s been shamed for years now because of her rape, you're trying to shame me again by asking me this political question.

STEPHANOPOULOS: You’ve — you've repeat that — you’ve repeated that again and again and again.

MACE: I think it’s offensive. As a woman, I find your — I find it offensive. For my political choices —

STEPHANOPOULOS: I'm asking —

MACE: I have endorsed the man that I believe is best for our country. It's not Joe Biden. And you looked at the dueling rallies yesterday in Georgia. Laken Riley's family was with Donald Trump. They weren’t with Joe Biden. The same guy yesterday that apologized for calling her killer an illegal, who was an illegal. And here you are trying to shame a rape victim. I find it disgusting.

STEPHANOPOULOS: I mean you keep saying I’m shaming you. There’s nothing I –

MACE: You are. The question — it is. It is.

STEPHANOPOULOS: How is the question asking you about a presidential candidate who’s been —

MACE: You’re asking a rape victim.

STEPHANOPOULOS: I’m – and there’s no question about that. And you’re — you've courageously talked about that.

MACE: You’re questioning my political choices because I’ve been raped. I think that’s disgusting.

STEPHANOPOULOS: No, I’m questioning your political choices because you're supporting someone who’s been found liable for rape.

MACE: You’re shaming me. You’re trying to shame me.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Actually, I’m not trying to shame you.

MACE: You are. That’s exactly what you’re doing.

STEPHANOPOULOS: You’re not answering the question.

MACE: And I think it’s disgusting.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Well, you’re welcome to say that, but you also have to answer the question.

MACE: I did.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Why are you supporting someone who’s been found liable for rape?

MACE: I just answered your question.

STEPHANOPOULOS: What is the answer?

MACE: He was not – he was not found guilty in a civil — in a criminal court of law. He — it was a civil — it was sexual abuse. It wasn’t actually rape, by the way. And E. Jean Carroll joked about all the money she’s going to get and made a mockery out of — out of this case. And I think that's offensive.

There is a reason why women don’t come forward. And when you have someone who says that they're raped and they make a mockery out of this civil court judgment, it’s offensive to other women. It makes it harder for other women to come forward when another woman has made a mockery of it.

STEPHANOPOULOS: You said women don’t come forward because they are afraid. They are afraid because they are defamed by those who commit —

MACE: They’re judged and shamed, like you’re trying to shame me this morning.

STEPHANOPOULOS: They — they are — they are afraid to come forward, as you said, because they are defamed by those who commit the rape.

MACE: And they’re judged.

STEPHANOPOULOS: That’s what Donald Trump has been found guilty of doing.

MACE: He defended himself over that and denies that it ever happened. But he was not found guilty in a criminal court of law. It was a civil judgment over sexual abuse.

STEPHANOPOULOS: So is that the distinction you’re making, a civil judgment is — is — is okay, but a criminal judgment is not?

MACE: This is different. And — and they didn't even input all of the evidence into the – the civil case either because some of the information she provided wasn't even accurate or correct. But to sit here and ask me, as a rape victim, to — to try to shame me for my political choices, is wrong. And I think it's offensive. And you —

STEPHANOPOULOS: You can — you can repeat that again and again and again and again and again and I’ve done nothing to shame you.

MACE: And I’m going to because I find it deeply offensive.

STEPHANOPOULOS: You don't find it offensive that Donald Trump has been found liable for rape?

MACE: I find it offensive, as a rape victim, that you're trying to shame me for my political choices. And I've said again repeatedly, E. Jean Carroll has made a mockery out of rape by joking about it. I don’t find that funny. Rape is not funny.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Well, you’ve — you’ve made it perfectly clear.

MACE: Rape is serious.

STEPHANOPOULOS: You’ve made it perfectly clear, you’re comfortable –

MACE: Rape is serious. It’s not funny.

STEPHANOPOULOS: It is serious.

The conversation then moved to Trump’s conduct on Jan. 6, 2021 which Mace at one time said was disqualifying for Trump. After going around and around, the conversation ended this way:

STEPHANOPOULOS: So you’ve made it very clear you’re comfortable with Donald Trump being found liable for rape and you’re comfortable with his actions on Jan. 6.

MACE: I didn’t say I was comfortable with — you’re putting words into my mouth.

STEPHANOPOULOS: You wouldn’t condemn it.

MACE: You’re — no, you’re putting words into my mouth.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Are you comfortable with it?

MACE: I support Donald Trump for president. I just endorsed him ...

STEPHANOPOULOS: So you’re comfortable with it ...

MACE: ... a few weeks ago.

STEPHANOPOULOS: ... even though he’s been found liable for rape?

MACE: In a civil judgment, not a criminal court case. But you go ahead and keep shaming women who have been raped. Good luck with that.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Thank you for joining us. We’ll be right back.

Stephanopoulos demonstrated how a tough, unrelenting interview can reveal the utter shamelessness, amorality and dishonesty of the MAGA enablers. Interviewers cannot be put off by blame-shifting and deflection. Responsible journalism requires the interview to keep at it, at the risk of drawing the interviewee’s ire.

In this case, there still were millions of Americans who did not know Trump had been adjudicated civilly to be a rapist. Now, more will be forced to wrestle with their own willingness to elect such a vile figure.

Trump is in trouble with the law because he is nuts: Donald Trump is an infallible judge of character, but his cabinet contained people who called him a “fucking moron," “idiot," "an idiot surrounded by clowns," “dope," "kindergartner," "idiot," “patient in an adult day care center," “empty vessel," “like an 11-year-old child,” "sixth-grader, “idiot," “crazy," and “goddamn dumbbell." -- Bill Maher

I told EVERYBODY here exactly what I did, Ted. I posted a Rick-Roll video on YouTube that had a link which collected any IP address of anybody who clicked on the link.

I never once denied that I did this. In fact, after several days had passed I made a big announcement letting everyone know what I did. It is common knowledge and it has been for years and years now.

I also didn't threaten anybody with it, nor did I dox their location to any other members of the site. Hell, I didn't even post anybody's full IP address either. I simply posted a series of three 3-digit numbers. Two of them were random numbers I just made up, but one of them were the last 3-digits of their IP addresses. This was necessary to do just because of the fact that people didn't believe me when I told them what I did and what information I had. (And also why you shouldn't click on links without making sure you actually know where they're going to take you).

Wishy and Reaverfan were the only two people I did this to, and that's because they devolved into hardcore cyber bullying, regularly telling other members (not just me) to kill themselves and going into graphic detail how they should do it. I assume that Kiki left at the same point in time because she realized that I had her information as well and we hadn't been getting along very well while Covid was in full swing. I never took the steps to show her that I had her information, because simply arguing with each other is something that's always happened in the RWED. Wishy and Reaverfan were cancer and needed to know.

Since it appeared that Haken wasn't going to do anything about it, I took it upon myself to do something about it and let them know that their behavior was no longer anonymous. I never told anybody it was time for them to leave. Just that they'd better start behaving themselves and acting like human beings. Wishy left on her own. Hell... I know for sure Reaverfan got banned because he was never going to stop otherwise... But Wish might not be here anymore because Haken banned her too. She deserved it just as much as he did, so maybe I have it all wrong and her absence from this site was involuntary as well.

I NEVER ONCE DENIED THAT I DID ALL OF THIS. It's all in my post history.

Get your Vitamin D levels checked, son, because it appears that your memory is starting to fail you hard.

Go ahead and tell him. If he was paying attention at all when this all went down, and I assume he was since he did ultimately ban Reaverfan, he already knows full well what I did.

He fucked that up and my aunt thought it was a wounded animal out in the garage, which he took the time to wrap up floor to ceiling in plastic so nobody had to scrub out brains from the walls and work bench. They needlessly kept him alive for another 6 hours on a hospital bed before he finally died. Who knows how long he was out in that garage before that.

But they do have a point. Our dear daughter, through no fault of her own, she would never have gotten healthcare without Medicare. I'm sure the same is true for your brother, SIX. AFA your healthcare, you're probably getting it through a state aid program.

The Affordable Care Act IMHO is just a big wet kiss to hospital corporations and insurance companies and big pharma. It should have been replaced by Medicare for All,or at least the public option.

These programs need serious reform, but they are also absolutely necessary for many Americans.

Quote:

Many of the Trump administration’s health insurance actions still stand. For example, there’s the No Surprises Act, a bipartisan measure aimed at protecting patients from unexpected medical bills stemming from payment disputes between health care providers and insurers.

His administration also pushed price transparency regulations that require hospitals to post prices and insurers to provide estimated costs for procedures. Hospitals have been slow to comply.

Medicaid

While first-time candidate Trump vowed not to cut popular entitlement programs like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, his administration did not stick to that promise.

The Affordable Care Act repeal legislation Trump supported in 2017 would have imposed major cuts to Medicaid, and his Department of Health and Human Services later encouraged states to require Medicaid recipients to prove they are working in order to receive health insurance. However, the legislation did not pass.
Drug prices

The Trump administration was active on trying to reduce the price of prescription drugs for consumers. Trump signed measures allowing pharmacists to tell patients when the cash price of a drug is lower than the cost with insurance.

However, many of Trump’s proposals were blocked by the courts. One plan that never took effect would have pegged the price of some expensive drugs covered by Medicare to prices in other countries. Another would have required drug companies to include prices in television advertisements.

A regulation allowing states to import cheaper drugs from Canada did go through. However, it took until January 2024 for the FDA to approve the first importation plan, in Florida. Canada won’t allow exports that risk causing drug shortages there, leaving unclear whether the policy is workable.
Veterans health

Some advocates credit Trump for overhauling Department of Veterans Affairs health care. He signed a major bill allowing veterans to obtain care outside VA facilities.

That said, White House officials also tried to scuttle passage of the spending needed to pay for the initiative.

Medical freedom

Trump scored a big win for the libertarian wing of the Republican Party when he signed into law the “Right to Try Act,” intended to make it easier for patients with terminal diseases to access drugs or treatments not yet approved by the FDA.

Trump said in a Jan. 10 Fox News town hall that the law had “saved thousands and thousands” of lives. There’s no evidence for the claim, and it is not clear how many patients have managed to obtain treatment using the law. The FDA had already typically granted requests for “compassionate use” of not-yet-approved drugs anyway.

The stumbling block, which the law did not address, is getting drug companies to release doses of medicines that are still being tested and may be in short supply.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2024/01/23/trump-health-car
e-plan-second-term/72280611007
/

Many of these reforms are unworkable in specifics but do head in the right direction.

Right now Biden* is trumpeting that he's making prescription drugs more affordable. Do you know how many RX -out of the 20,000 that are out there- Medicare is bargaining for?

TEN!
And the projected rate for including more drugs is 15 per year. At this rate, it'll only be 1,333+ years for all drugs to have to be competitively priced!

Here's a reminder of why lots of people are afraid of Trump's authoritarian streak:

• He tried to violently overthrow the 2020 election.

• He often speaks admiringly of foreign dictators.

• He has explicitly promised to use the Justice Department to go after his enemies.

• He wants to eliminate big chunks of the civil service so he can appoint his own loyalists instead.

• He writes about "rooting out" all the vermin who don't support him.

• He laughs about being a dictator on "day one" and then stopping.

These aren't merely points of ordinary partisan disagreement. They are the signs of a man who will at least try to bring down the rule of law for his own aggrandizement. He may not succeed, but it won't be for lack of desire.

Kennedy family set to step up its efforts to help Biden's campaign

WASHINGTON — For President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s independent candidacy looms as a potential political spoiler. But for members of the extended Kennedy family, the possibility that one of their own could tip the race for presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump poses a different risk — spoiling a legacy.

Some members of the extended Kennedy clan already have issued statements making clear they stand with Biden this fall. But a gathering of dozens of Kennedys at the White House last weekend marked the beginning of a more active effort by the family to boost Biden’s reelection effort, and push back against one of their own.

“There was a point of having everybody there,” a senior member of the Kennedy family said of their gathering at the White House on St. Patrick's Day. The visit, which was captured in a photograph with Biden on the steps of the Rose Garden, included three generations and four branches of RFK Jr.'s relatives.

When it comes to potential future interactions with Biden, the senior member of the Kennedy family added: “I think timing is everything.”

House Republican budget calls for raising the retirement age for Social Security

A budget by the Republican Study Committee, a group of more than 170 GOP lawmakers, highlights how many in the party would seek to govern if Republicans win in November.

The new budget also calls for converting Medicare to a "premium support model," echoing a proposal that Republican former Speaker Paul Ryan had rallied support for. The plan became a flashpoint in the 2012 election, when Ryan was GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney's running mate, and President Barack Obama charged that it would "end Medicare as we know it."

Trump has offered shifting rhetoric on Social Security and Medicare without proposing a clear vision for the future of the programs. Trump shifty? Unclear? What's new about that?

So is this:

The Republican Study Committee — which includes nearly every Republican in Congress — released its latest budget proposal:
https://rsc-hern.house.gov/media/press-releases/rsc-releases-fy25-budg
et-proposal-fiscal-sanity-save-america

It includes cuts to Social Security even though Republicans have spent the past year angrily denying Democratic claims that they plan to cut Social Security. Also included:

• Cut the pay of federal workers
• Reduce funding for the EPA, SEC, FTC, NLRB, OSHA
• Raise the Social Security retirement age even more
• A big pile o' deregulation proposals
• Drill baby drill
• Welfare cuts
• Defund the IRS
• Eliminate the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
• Tax cuts for businesses and the rich
• Eliminate the estate tax
• Convert SNAP into a block grant
• More defense spending
• Health Savings Accounts
• Block grants for Medicaid
• Premium support for Medicare
• Block grant SSI
• Balanced budget amendment
• Make tax increases essentially impossible
• Kill Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
• Eliminate climate funding wherever it's hiding

Old-timers will recognize most of these things as reliable warhorses in Paul Ryan's old budget proposals. In other words, the GOP isn't Donald Trump's party in any meaningful sense of the word. It's the same party it's been for decades, with the same old tired proposals.

Truly Conservative Women Like Me Are Increasingly Fed Up With Today's GOP | Opinion

By Sarah Stogner | Mar 21, 2024 at 7:45 AM EDT

ngly-fed-todays-gop-opinion-1881463

In the two weeks since the State of the Union, conversations I've had with fellow conservative women have been filled with criticism—but not for President Biden. Instead, they've revolved around the disturbing response delivered by Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), and what it says about the state of the Republican Party.

The words "creepy" and "Handmaid's Tale" come up often. The message is clear: The GOP is looking to put a "pretty face" on a sexist, backward ideology. And I say this as someone who is running for office in Texas as a Republican.

For many of us, this was the final sign that the GOP has run off the rails. Our only choices at this point are to fight to steer it back onto the tracks, or jump off entirely before it crashes.

Well, there's an answer to this supposed conundrum:

Vote "not Biden*" for President, since foreign policy and border protection is a President's bailiwick.
Vote your pocketbook for Congress, bc Congress does spending and domestic policy.

Seriously dood, stop with the false dilemmas.

Trump reportedly keeps lying and never learns his lessons. – March 22, 2024 11:39 PM ET

Donald Trump biographer Tim O'Brien recounted a time when the two were talking about the past and regrets especially about declaring bankruptcy. Trump had a few.

"He said, 'You know, my father always said, 'You never personally guarantee any loans.' And I made a mistake. I personally guaranteed too much money in the early 1990s. I didn't think it would catch up with me. And it did. And I learned my lesson. I would never personally guarantee a loan after that.'"

"I later found out he was lying to me in that very moment," he said. "I didn't know it, but it turned out he had personally guaranteed some of the loans on the new building he was developing in Chicago."

"So, he goes through these searing moments where he almost loses everything he can and has, and he says: 'I learned these lessons; I should've listened to my father.' Lo and behold, he is doing the same thing."

Trump is facing a Monday deadline to come up with $464 million bond.

O'Brien said it's a long pattern.

"Now here we are in 2024 and he is about to get exposed," he said. "It is going to be a slow grind. I don't think there's going to be a lot of drama on Monday. But the process of opening the kimono and discovering indeed Donald Trump has no financial clothing, at least not the kind of financial clothing he claims he's had, begins."

If Trump fails to remit the amount that is being asked of him, O'Brien believes the damage has been done to break through the real estate tycoon's Teflon veneer.

"It is a demonstration he doesn't learn his lessons," said O'Brien. "He does not anticipate problems properly."

"He doesn't do it because he is a juvenile delinquent; he lacks the maturity, wisdom, and strategic insight of an adult."

As the ex-president fans the flames of violence, experts and insiders say November will be a brutal test for US democracy

By David Smith | Sat 23 Mar 2024 15.45 EDT

A bloodbath. The end of democracy. Riots in the streets. Bedlam in the country. Donald Trump has made apocalyptic imagery a defining feature of his presidential election campaign, warning supporters that if he does not win – and avoid criminal prosecution – the US will enter its death throes.

The prophecies of doom, repeated ad nauseam at rallies and on social media, have raised fears that the former president is making an electoral tinderbox that could explode in November. While there has been much commentary assessing the implications of a Trump win, some experts warn that a Trump defeat could provide an equally severe stress test of American democracy.

“Regardless of whether Donald Trump wins or loses, there’s going to be violence,” said Michael Fanone, a retired police officer who was seriously injured by pro-Trump rioters at the US Capitol on 6 January 2021. “If Donald Trump loses, he’s not going to concede and he’s going to inspire people to commit acts of violence, just like he did in the weeks and months leading up to January 6, 2021.

“If he wins, I also believe that there’s going to be violence committed by his supporters, targeting people who previously tried to hold him to account, whether it was members of the press, average citizens like myself, Department of Justice officials, state and federal prosecutors. I believe him when he says that he will have his vengeance.”

Trump has long sought to sow distrust in the electoral system while using rhetoric outside the boundaries of modern political discourse, dehumanising opponents and immigrants and portraying the US as a nation on the verge of collapse.

During his first run for president, in 2016, he encouraged his supporters to “knock the crap out” of protesters and said he would pay their legal bills if they got into trouble. Should he be denied the presidential nomination at the Republican national convention in Cleveland, he warned: “I think you’d have riots.”

In the summer of 2020, Trump is said to have called for the military to shoot peaceful protesters in Washington during the Black Lives Matter demonstrations. When he disputed his election defeat that year, he suggested that an adverse ruling by the Pennsylvania supreme court would “induce violence in the streets”.

Then, at a rally before his supporters stormed the US Capitol on January 6, Trump said: “You’ll never take back our country with weakness … If you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country any more.”

After the FBI’s search of his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida in August 2022, he predicted that “terrible things are going to happen”, and then quoted the South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham warning of “riots in the streets” if Trump were charged.

Since declaring his candidacy in November 2022, Trump has intensified inflammatory and racist statements on the campaign trail. He has promised to pardon January 6 insurrectionists, suggested that Gen Mark Milley should be executed and asserted that immigrants who are in the US illegally are “poisoning the blood of our country”.

At last year’s Conservative Political Action Conference, Trump declared: “This is the final battle, they know it. I know it, you know it, and everybody knows it, this is it. Either they win or we win. And if they win, we no longer have a country.”

He threatened “potential death & destruction” if he was charged by the Manhattan district attorney over a hush-money payment and criticised those urging his supporters to remain peaceful, fuming on his Truth Social platform: “OUR COUNTRY IS BEING DESTROYED, AS THEY TELL US TO BE PEACEFUL!”

Trump talks. We need to listen.

The Houston Chronicle Editorial Board, March 24, 2024

Most Americans don’t pay as much attention to candidate bloviation as journalists do, and yet, when it comes to Trump — “a rhetorical genius,” in the words of Jennifer Mercieca, a scholar of political rhetoric at Texas A&M University — we cannot not help but listen to the underlying message of his “weaponized rhetoric.”

Mercieca, who points out that she watched every Trump rally leading up to his 2016 victory, defines “demagogue” as “a leader who capitalizes on popular prejudices, makes false claims and promises and uses arguments based on emotion rather than reason.” She contends that Trump knows exactly what he’s doing, either intuitively or by design. Rhetorical tactics he regularly employs follow a demagogue’s playbook. They include ad hominem attacks, treating people as objects, alluding to the wisdom of crowds and — our favorite — “paralipsis.” (“I’m not saying, just saying.”)

Trump, Mercieca writes in her book “Demagogue for President: The Rhetorical Genius of Donald Trump,” is “probably the most successful demagogue in American history.” Whether intuitive or carefully choreographed, Trump’s rhetoric has been more effective than Huey “the Kingfish” Long, more effective than Joseph McCarthy or George Wallace.

For that reason, we can’t tune him out. And for that reason, we can’t play into his hands as many in the media did during his first campaign, rewarding his accessibility with endless airtime. We must listen — with our heads and with our gut. His blather connotes his inclinations.

We must pay attention, because this time, unlike in 2016, Trump has a team of professionals ready and willing, if American voters restore him to the White House, to translate his authoritarian inclinations into actual policy. Whether it’s weaponizing the federal bureaucracy — including, of course, the Internal Revenue Service and the Justice Department — or using state National Guards to round up thousands of suspected “illegals” and transport them to vast internment camps along the border, or abandoning Ukraine to Vladimir Putin’s rapacity, or sneering at the dangers of climate change, or pardoning hundreds of Jan. 6 insurrectionists or …

In other words, we may not know precisely what Trump means when he snarls about “poisoning the blood of our country,” but we know pretty much where we’re headed if he ends up back in the White House.

Mercieca suggests that we are in this fix — a political party in thrall to a dangerous demagogue — because we have neglected our obligation as citizens of a democracy. “The people have a responsibility,” she writes, “to hold their leaders responsible for their words and actions and to prevent them from becoming demagogues.”

TIME To Panic: Joe Biden's Campaign "In Trouble" Despite Obama Warning

"Don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to fuck things up." -Barack Obama

With less than eight months before the 2024 election, the Biden re-election campaign is in big trouble. Not only is Biden lagging in the polls vs. Donald Trump, the border crisis he created by shredding all of Trump's Executive Orders on immigration has resulted in 10 million illegals flooding into the United States - which has left even Democrats livid.

What's more, Biden is quickly losing the support of young Americans, and the latino vote.

Things are so bad that TIME magazine has just devoted 3,700 words to let us know that Barack Obama 'warned' the Biden campaign last June that defeating Trump would be harder in 2024 (because no pandemic or hoax dossier to set him up?). Six months later, Obama 'saw few signs of improvement.'

Obama returned to the White House in December, with a 'more urgent' message: the re-election campaign was behind schedule in building out field operations, and that an 'insular group of advisers' in the West Wing was hamstringing the effort.

Now, it's really bad...

Three months later, the 2024 general election is under way, and Biden is indeed in trouble. His stubbornly low approval ratings have sunk into the high 30s, worse than those of any other recent President seeking re-election. He’s trailed or tied Trump in most head-to-head matchups for months. Voters express concerns about his policies, his leadership, his age, and his competency. The coalition that carried Biden to victory in 2020 has splintered; the Democrats’ historic advantage with Black, Latino, and Asian American voters has dwindled to lows not seen since the civil rights movement. -TIME

Meanwhile, Biden's inner circle is "defiantly sanguine" as a "fog of dread" descends on Democrats.

Because "the fix is in"?

Quote:

The rest of the TIME article is full of anecdotes of dissatisfied Democrats, particularly young voters such as 20-year-old Aidan Kohn-Murphy.

It has nothing to do, as many assume, with the President’s age. With palpable frustration, Kohn-Murphy enumerates the list of perceived policy “betrayals” as though they were “tattooed on the back of my hand.”

According to the report, GenZ voters "don’t understand why they should be compelled to cast their ballot for a candidate who has done so many things that are against their values," said Kohn-Murphy.

Losing the minority vote

In 2020, Biden carried 87% of the black vote. Now, he's polling at just 63%, a sharp decline. Meanwhile four years ago he won hispanic votes by a ratio of 2 to 1. He now trails Trump in that bloc.

Biden's support of Israel amid the Gaza war has "tanked his standing with Muslim and Arab voters," particularly in "must-win Michigan."

Overall, Biden’s advantage over Trump among nonwhite Americans has shrunk from almost 50 points in 2020 to 12, according to the latest Times/Siena poll.

"It boils down to voters of color, and those voters are pissed," said one former Biden campaign and White House official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. "I think it’s very likely he’ll lose."

What's more, nearly two dozen senior Democratic sources told TIME that Biden's "campaign mechanics, structure, and staffing over most of the past year are partly to blame as well."

While Obama was marching to re-election over the summer of 2012, his campaign head count topped 900. Despite plans to hire 350 new staffers, the Biden campaign ended 2023 with only around 70 paid employees, according to campaign finance filings.

Biden advisers don't care about the president's dismal numbers with young and nonwhite voters, as the "Biden brain trust" thinks they'll vote for him again regardless.

"We’ve reached out to this group of nonwhite and young voters earlier than any presidential campaign ever has," according to senior adviser Becca Siegel.

Good luck with that...

I think everybody's matured quite a bit since the last two election cycles. That tends to happen when the economy goes down the shit tubes and nobody is happy or comfortable anymore.

It appears that you can't just tell the black electorate that they're not black if they don't vote for you anymore. I doubt very much that Joe* telling black people he carries around a bottle of hot sauce in his clown shoes would buy any votes this time either.

Should have done something about that border issue 3 years ago while you still had the chance, but instead you wanted to cater to the crazy, fat, white, college "educated" cat ladies on Twitter who are all losing their jobs in the media now.

Good luck in November, Joe*.

New York Magazine: What the Polls Say Today: RFK Jr. Now Hurting Biden, Helping Trump

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/what-the-polls-say-today-kenne
dy-hurts-biden-helps-trump.html

They were always saying that Ed.

This is the problem with cherry picking polls instead of looking at the aggregate. (Which is exactly what you do in the article, by starting it off with two extremely biased Left-Wing polling firms, then going on to tell us what the RCP polling aggregate says today as well as what the state polls say today).

There is no such thing as a poll that is unbiased. So when you spend your days looking at only the polls that are telling you what you want to hear it hits you much harder when your cherry picked polls start telling you things you don't want to hear.

Trump has gained an additional 1 to 5 points over Joe Biden* in a 3-way race on the aggregate since the beginning and was never being hurt by RFK Jr. on the aggregate of polls. This Trump Bump in a 3-way race has more or less been mirrored on a state-by-state basis in the swing states since the beginning as well and is not a new phenomena.

So either you are lying about a change occurring here now for some reason, or you weren't looking at the polling aggregate in the beginning but switched over to it now.
