It was cool. Finished the round with over 6,000points. Hand I won on had 7 doubles in it.

Yesterday's game good. Today's game suxxed. Finally, finally broke 1,000points on the last hand. Had 5 doubles in it because I had the wind of the round which also was my wind, and that means 2 doubles, then I had 1 set of dragons, then I had both my flowers. But it was a rough slog.

Only good thing about today was I found out that my thyroid is stable still. Doc called yesterday but I was too late back to call them, so I dropped by today to find out what they wanted. They had called while I was out and left a message sort of.

I'm sure you would be able to pick it up SIG. Playing isn't hard but the counting of points can get pretty complicated.

Off in a bit to get my hearing tested and my hearing aides checked. New people in the office. Have to see how that goes. Then grocery shopping on a nice dry day.

Sitting at 20C right now which is 70F.

Got my new plates yesterday. Switching the old ones off of it was just about as bad as I imagined it would be, but not worse than I imagined. Going to get the insurance swapped over today and if things go right I'll have the old car towed away too. I've got to dig up the title, but I'm 99% sure where it is.

I think I'll mow the lawn after that. It's only been 4 days since the last time, but with all this rain and sun it's growing really fast. Looks good though.

Hearing aides checked and it looks like it is time for a new set. The right one wasn't working at all but the audiologist did manage to get it functioning again. Hearing one the right ear is mostly stable. Little changes but nothing drastic from last year. Never mind the left as she tried to tell me and I said, "I know it's about gone." Anyways looking into getting maybe the ones that go right in the ear, have to go back in June. There are difficulties with those as my ears are so small and my ear canals aren't right. Lots to talk about there. Thinking I will go back to battery ones. We'll see.

Groceries done too.

How much are hearing aides in Canada, Brenda?

Those things cost a fortune here if your insurance doesn't cover them.

Got the new car all legal and finally got the old one out of here. Feels good.

Then I mowed the lawn, did some weed pulling and cleared out the gutters. Looks like all the helicopters must have fallen early this year with all the high winds, otherwise I would have waited on that.

Went over to my friends after that and shot some pool. It's been a while since we got together, so that was nice.

Did all that on about 3 hours of sleep. I still haven't been sleeping well and I'd say I got less than 8 hours in the last two nights combined. Hopefully I can get some sleep tonight and I don't waste the day away tomorrow. Weather is crap until Sunday, but I have things that need doing inside the house anyhow.

Hearing aides are expensive in Canada. But I am lucky as mine are covered by my medical. Thank goodness.

And for price in my province you are looking at over $1,000 and it doesn't matter on the set up. Battery that go inside the ear or battery that only the mike goes in the ear or the rechargeable ones that I got right now that are going.

About your hearing BRENDA. Altho everybody loses hearing as they age, you seem a bit young to have lost so much in your left ear. And since it's one side, I imagine it's due to something specific that's unlikely to affect your right ear? I hope that means you can plan on having just the usual "aging" in your good ear.

My own hearing sucks. I have el cheapo online hearing aids that help, if I wear them. Family keeps telling me to use them, but right now "taking care of myself" is so time -consuming and onerous I just can't seem to add ONE MORE THING to the list of things I have to do on top of everything else I'm trying to do. Altho for family's sake I suppose I should get to that. Sigh.

Anyway, GOOD IN YOU FOR KEEPING UP WITH THAT. IT'S IMPORTANT FOR BOTH YOU AND THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU THAT YOU HEAR AS WELL AS POSSIBLE.

There was fluid build up in my left ear when I was a child and it was treated and my hearing was fine after that. I was in my 40s when the left started to take a dip then when I hit 50, it really started going.

That's why I have 2 hearing aides. I am still trying to protect the hearing in my right one as much as possible.

Been pecking away at yardwork in between the myriad of other things I have to do. Since I can only chisel a few hours a week, it's mighty slow going. It would be great if I could just work on a project until it was done, but my time is so divided sometimes I don't know if I'm coming or going.

Contractor and crew will be here tomorrow to start replacing the remaining windows that haven't been replaced yet. This is the second contractor I picked, the first one took our money for the windows and then ghosted us, I had to threaten him with the State Contractors Licensing Board and his insurance company to get our $ back, and held my breath until the check cleared. But I watched this crew rebuild a house from the foundation up, literally, and I was impressed with their work so here's hoping he's as good as I think he is.

Hubby had a lot of computer parts underneath the biggest window, and it fell on me to move stuff out of the way while he and dear daughter reupholstered the last chair.

Tuesday I go in for another nasal roto rooter job, but this will be in-office, not day surgery. We were supposed to go to the bank on Thursday to get some accounts converted but can't do that while contractors are here so will have to reschedule.

And dog is in heat, poor thing, and feeling miserable bc she can't sleep in our bed like she used to. She's been banished to her carrier, which I've made as warm and comfy as possible. And she's due for a teeth cleaning next week, but I have to ask the vet if they're going to have a problem with her being in heat.

And there's a little dog from down the street, something of an escape artist, who I couldn't dislodge from our front door. When I tried to get a rope on his collar he snapped at me and broke the skin. I had to turn a hose on him and call the neighbors to come and fetch him.

I have severe neuropathy in my feet and fingertips and a little bit of numbness all over from chemo. One problem I ran into is that I didn't notice how much the dog had bruised my hand until much later, bc it didn't feel that bad. Worse, I didn't know that I had punctured the ball of my foot until I saw blood dripping on the floor.

And at the end of the month I'm getting a treatment that will partly disable my immune system, and I'm going to have to be SUPER careful about cuts, scrapes, punctured, and airborne germs otherwise I can get an infection requiting hospitalization.

That, or die of GPA within 5 years.

Much to do, things have kind of collided.

Sigh.

Got some much needed cleanup done today, and taking a break from paperwork right now.

I told my dad I owed him one for the favor of throwing that old car my way, so it appears this week he's cashing in those chips. I'll be heading out his way and helping him move all sorts of furniture into other rooms so we can cut up all the old carpet in the house.

The old carpet was fine and he didn't want to spend the money on new flooring, but my step-mom is gung-ho about it.

Between all the yard work and house work he was doing before they went out of town, he damn near broke his back cutting up the living room the other day. And that was with the carpet knife I had him specifically go out and buy. He told me that thing was a lifesaver and it cut through the carpet like butter. I told him he'd be thanking me later when he hadn't spent a day trying to cut through that with a utility knife.

Still have 3 rooms and the basement/stairs to tear out, and I'm not going to let him do all that on his own. I also may be bringing some of that carpet back with me. I'm pretty sure his basement floor is larger than my back patio is, so even though I painted the floor out there it might be getting some carpet on it now anyway.

She called me earlier to ask if we could do our meeting at 8:30 and I said fine then she called back and asked about a change again. Seems her husband decided to make an elaborate dinner for them, so when she suggested tomorrow I asked her what time tomorrow. She first 11, then ran down 2pm and 3pm.

So long story short my phone meeting is now tomorrow at 2pm.

Three of the five windows are roughed in. The next window is really big and harder to handle. A door and two small windows after that it seems.

Very impressed with the contractor. Instead of leaving his crew he was supervising the whole time. But as it turns out he has a severely herniated (9mm!!) disk. From a purely selfish POV I hope he gets his back fixed soon bc I want him to do our bathrooms!

Man, those guys show up EARLY! 7AM they're hammering stucco!

But all the windows are roughed in, and the contractor was checking to see if they opened and close/ latched properly or if they needed to be shimmed differently.

The stucco was busted out from around the door too (we're getting a door replaced) so all of the noisy dusty, part is done. After that I think it's putting up the interior trim and patchingthe plaster and stucco. So I think we can start cleaning and vacuuming up now.

Dr ENT is pleased with my nose. All she needed to do is suction goop out, I need not have worn a red shirt bc I didn't bleed all over it, and I got my questions answered about what to do with my antibiotic nasal rinses. (Yes, I can use them to prevent nasal infection.)

Onward thru the fog.

Just OOC. Is wife going to get new flooring i.e. wood or engineered wood or vinyl?
Or new carpeting?

There's a mix going in there. I know that she has no interest in actual hard wood flooring. Somehow my dad talked her out of redoing the kitchen floor. They put down that faux fake wood in there at least 20 years ago and it looks as good as it did the day they put it down. Hard rule of no shoes in that house does wonders over the decades.

There's not a single bit of carpeting in that house that needs replacing either. This all started when their 2nd bathroom had a burst pipe or something later last year and it waterlogged the carpet in the back porch. My dad tore that out months ago, but now it's turned into redoing the whole house. They only needed one large window in the Living room replaced too, but she's replacing all the windows in the house.

I told my old man to relax and let her do it if she wanted to. The entire job is completely illogical, but at the end of the day she's just spending her own money since it's coming out of what she was going to get in the will. Ain't no way he was going to spend it down before that happens.

There's painting involved too, but I won't be doing that. They're really overpaying somebody to do it, although I suppose those prices probably are sound in 2024, but I would have been offered probably only half as much and she's the type that would be holding up a magnifying glass everywhere and I'd still be hearing about anything that wasn't perfect 10 years from now. Not interested.

Hey... It's all going to be putting food on somebody's table. I know everybody in that industry is hurting right now, so it's nice that some people are still comfortable with replacing a bunch of stuff that is perfectly fine as it is.

Their entire bill for all of this work is in the area of around 1/3rd of what I paid for my house. I hope they're happy with the results. The problem is that when you're starting out with walls that already looked great and a house full of carpet and other flooring that looked like it was brand new because it wasn't abused, they're really not going to notice much of a difference after it's all done. The only real upgrade they're getting here is that large living room window which has had problems for a while now.

Maybe she just wanted new colors?

I was against replacing a bunch of windows at this end. Yes, we still had a 3 medium sized single-pane metal frame windows in the kitchen, one ginormous sized one in the den, and two small bathroom windows (facing south). But IMHO our solar panels amost pay for our A/C. And our heating bills, altho they can get pricey its only for 2 months. So it doesn't make economic sense to pay north of $20,000 for thermally insulated windows to save maybe $800 a year in heating and cooling costs. The payback period on that is ... uh... 27 years??? It would make more sense to add insulation and an exhaust fan to the attic.

But, hubby really REALLY wanted it done. He's been agitating for it for years. And if our $$ is going to be inflated away and it makes him happy... well, what the hell?

The one big improvement is we replaced a solid kitchen door with a divided light door, and OMG it brings so much light into the kitchen!

Every time I look into the kitchen, my first thought is "Who left the door open???" It's gonna take at least week until I get used to it.

I really REALLY like this contractor. He's got the job gutting our 3 bathrooms and redoing them. Those bathrooms were eyesores when we moved in 30 years ago.

I'm sure that was most of it in the end.

To be fair though, now that it's over, those carpets were a bit more beat up than I assumed they were. They were installed over 30 years ago now. I still would have taken the basement carpet for my back porch, but even though it was just barely big enough I didn't realize that there were two posts that they cut around to install it and it made it unusable for my purposes. I also didn't realize we weren't moving the beds out of either room and we were cutting the carpet out while moving them around, so even though it would have been possible to grab the smaller piece I wanted I decided it wasn't even worth the hassle and I'll just get myself a remnant whenever I'm ready to put anything down.

I hear ya. I figure if they still work, they don't let water in during the rain and they aren't letting all the cold air in during the winter then there's zero reason to replace them.

Can't bury it with you, right? I'm sure you've both figured out how DD's going to get by on her own one day and that's what matters in the end.

That is sweet. It's something I'd like to do one day between my kitchen and my porch even though I spent all that time restoring the old solid door I have there now. That porch gets so much natural light with all those big windows but my kitchen only gets the light from that little window above the sink. It would be awesome one day to have a whole lot of glass with minimal wood there one day.

Good for him and good for you. Word of mouth is gold. The guy I used to do odd jobs for did what he did for 50 years and never paid any money to advertise and always had work. You treat your customers right and they're going to treat you right.
