Why isn’t the media reporting on Trump’s growing dementia?
The evidence is increasing

By Robert Reich | Jul 08, 2024

ng

A few weeks ago, at a rally in Nevada, Trump told his followers that boat manufacturers are now required to use electric engines. He claimed that someone at a boat company in South Carolina told him, “It’s a problem, sir. They want us to make all-electric boats.” (There is no such requirement.)

Trump then said the South Carolinian warned him “the boat is so heavy it can’t float. Also, it can’t go fast because of the weight.”

Trump continued:

“So I said, ‘Let me ask you a question,’ and [the South Carolinian] said, ‘Nobody ever asked this question,’ and it must be because of MIT, my relationship to MIT — very smart. He goes, I say, ‘What would happen if the boat sank from its weight? And you’re in the boat and you have this tremendously powerful battery and the battery is now underwater and there’s a shark that’s approximately 10 yards over there?’

By the way, a lot of shark attacks lately, do you notice that, a lot of sharks? I watched some guys justifying it today. ‘Well, they weren’t really that angry. They bit off the young lady’s leg because of the fact that they were, they were not hungry, but they misunderstood what who she was.’

These people are crazy. He said there’s no problem with sharks. ‘They just didn’t really understand a young woman swimming now.’ It really got decimated and other people do a lot of shark attacks.

So I said, ‘So there’s a shark 10 yards away from the boat, 10 yards or here, do I get electrocuted if the boat is sinking? Water goes over the battery, the boat is sinking. Do I stay on top of the boat and get electrocuted, or do I jump over by the shark and not get electrocuted?’

Because I will tell you, he didn’t know the answer. He said, ‘You know, nobody’s ever asked me that question.’ I said, ‘I think it’s a good question.’ I think there’s a lot of electric current coming through that water.

But you know what I’d do if there was a shark or you get electrocuted? I’ll take electrocution every single time. I’m not getting near the shark. So we’re going to end that.”

I ask you: Is this the speech of a rational human being?

But how much attention did this incoherent ramble attract in the media? Very little, especially in comparison with the nonstop media assessment of Biden’s verbal stumbles during the debate.

Trump is showing growing signs of dementia, but isn’t facing nearly the same scrutiny as is Joe Biden.

In April, Trump spoke to a rally in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, about the famed Civil War battle at Gettysburg. Trump told the audience:

“Gettysburg, what an unbelievable battle that was. It was so much, and so interesting, and so vicious and horrible, and so beautiful in so many different ways— it represented such a big portion of the success of this country."

Trump then began talking about Confederate General Robert E. Lee and how Lee was now “out of favor.” Trump said that Lee told his troops,“Never fight uphill, me boys!” (Historians deny Lee ever said such a thing.)

Trump continued, “Gettysburg, wow — I go to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to look and to watch."

These are not isolated examples of Trump’s incoherence. During the last several months of Republican primaries, Trump repeatedly claimed that his opponent Nikki Haley was in charge of Capitol security on January 6. (Haley never had any connection to Capitol security.)

He has repeatedly confused who he ran against in the past, such as stating, “With Obama, we won an election that everyone said couldn’t be won.” (Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016.)

Trump has confused Biden with Obama so often that he’s had to put out a statement that the slips have been intentional.

Last September, Trump suggested that the way to prevent wildfires in California’s forest lands is to keep them damp. Here are his words:

“They say that there’s so much water up north that I want to have the overflow areas go into your forests and dampen your forests, because if you dampen your forests you're not gonna have these forest fires that are burning at levels that nobody’s ever seen.”

In October, Trump warned his supporters that Biden will lead America into World War Two.

True, Biden has occasional difficulty keeping his train of thought, as we witnessed during the debate. But Biden has gotten major bills passed. He’s been negotiating with world leaders. In terms of running the government, Biden has been functioning as well if not better than most presidents.

And what of Trump? As president, he accomplished nothing except dividing the country with his paranoid bloviation, and since then has mounted an attempted coup against the United States.

It’s Trump — who has a family history of dementia — who’s increasingly unhinged.

Trump has said that under his administration, “If you rob a store, you can fully expect to be shot as you are leaving that store.”

Trump has claimed that Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militant group, is “very smart.” That whales are being killed by windmills. That he won all 50 states in 2020. That he defeated Barack Obama in 2016. That the outgoing chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff should be executed.

The most telling evidence of Trump’s growing dementia is found in his paranoid thirst for revenge, on which he is centering his entire presidential campaign.

On November 11, he pledged to a crowd of supporters in Claremont, New Hampshire, that:

“We will root out the communists, Marxists, fascists and the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country, that lie and steal and cheat on elections and will do anything possible — they’ll do anything, whether legally or illegally, to destroy America and to destroy the American dream.”

Are these the words of a sane person? Or of an aging paranoid megalomaniac?

Even if it’s unclear to which category Trump belongs, shouldn’t this question be central to the coverage of his campaign for reelection?

I’m no physician, and I have no idea whether Biden or Trump is suffering from early dementia. But the weight of the evidence suggests Trump is. So why isn’t the media covering this?

When I’ve asked members of the media, they say Trump’s malfunctioning brain is “old news.”

After all, in 2017, 27 psychiatrists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals concluded in The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump that Trump’s mental health posed a “clear and present danger” to the nation.

Members of Trump’s own Cabinet — horrified by the January 6, 2021, violence at the Capitol and Trump's lack of urgency in stopping it — discussed whether to invoke the the 25th Amendment to remove him from office due to mental incompetence.

But just because Trump has shown mental instability in the past doesn’t make his mental problems any less relevant now that he is seeking reelection. They’re more relevant. He appears even more delusional than before.

If Biden’s difficulties are fair game, why isn’t Trump’s apparent mental decline front and center?

Biden may appear frail, but he’s rational. The growing evidence of Trump’s dementia and paranoia, on the other hand, poses a clear potential danger to the future of America — if he’s reelected.

At the least, the media should be investigating and reporting on it. Right?

“Putin and Xi Love Me and I Love Them”

Donald Trump’s public events are a challenge for anyone who writes about him. His rallies and press conferences are rich sources of material, fountains of molten weirdness that blurp up stuff that would sink the career of any other politician. By the time they’re over, all of the attendees are covered in gloppy nonsense.

And then, once everyone cleans up and shakes the debris off their phones and laptops, so much of what Trump said seems too bonkers to have come from a former president and the nominee of a major party that journalists are left trying to piece together a story as if Trump were a normal person. This is what The Atlantic’s editor in chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, has described as the “bias toward coherence,” and it leads to careful circumlocutions instead of stunned headlines.

Trump, predictably, did an afternoon concert of his greatest hits, including “Doctors and Mothers Are Murdering Babies After They’re Born,” “Putin and Xi Love Me and I Love Them,” and “Gas Used to Be a Buck-Eighty-Something a Gallon.” But the new material was pretty shocking.

Trump not only declared that mothers are killing babies in the delivery room—he’s been saying that for years—but added the incomprehensible claim that liberals, conservatives, and independents alike are very happy that abortion has been returned to the states. (When asked how he would vote in Florida’s abortion referendum, he dodged the question, which suggests that maybe not everyone is happy.)

He said (again) that the convicted January 6 insurrectionists have been treated horribly, but this time he added that no one died during the assault on the Capitol. (In fact, four people died that day.) He made his usual assertion that Russia would never have invaded Ukraine if he’d been in office, but this time he added how much he looked forward to getting along with the Iranians, despite also bragging about how he tanked the nuclear deal with them.

Reporters might listen to Trump and then understandably be reluctant to start typing stories that must feel like spec scripts for The West Wing pieced together by a creative-writing circle:

The former president, lying about abortion laws, said women murder their own babies in the delivery room. He megalomaniacally claimed that he gets bigger crowds than anyone in history, and compared himself to Martin Luther King Jr. He descended into fantasy by telling a story about surviving a helicopter emergency that never happened with a man who wasn’t there.

Donald Trump stored, showed off and refused to return classified documents

Trump faces 37 felony counts — 31 pertaining to the willful retention of national defense information, the balance relating to alleged conspiracy, obstruction and false statements — that could result in a substantial prison sentence in the event of a conviction. A Trump aide who prosecutors said moved dozens of boxes at his Florida estate at his direction, and then lied to investigators about it, was charged in the same indictment with conspiracy and other crimes.

Trump responded to the indictment Friday by falsely conflating his case with a separate classified documents investigation concerning President Joe Biden.

The conduct alleged in the historic indictment — the first federal case against a former president — cuts to the heart of any president’s responsibility to safeguard the government’s most valuable secrets. Prosecutors say the documents he stowed, refused to return and in some cases showed to visitors risked jeopardizing not only relations with foreign nations but also the safety of troops and confidential sources.

“Our laws that protect national defense information are critical to the safety and security of the United States and they must be enforced,” Jack Smith, the Justice Department special counsel who filed the case, said in his first public statements. “Violations of those laws put our country at risk.”

I almost forgot that Trump is still claiming he won in 2020 but his victory was stolen at the last second. Trump is colloquially known as a sore loser.

Trump Stop the Steal:
https://www.google.com/search?q=Trump+Stop+the+Steal

Curious about Trump's Stop the Steal? It went something like this:

We listened as speaker after speaker explained that Trump was certain to win the 2020 presidential election – then just weeks away – in a landslide. Anything less would be a sign the Democrats had cheated.

If that happened, warned a man from the podium, we may need to take matters into our own hands. Political violence, he argued, wasn’t all that bad – American history had been shaped by it after all.

A little more than two months later that man would take part in an attack on the US Capitol. He is now serving an 11-year prison sentence.

Trump is ready to begin the 2024 version of Stop the Steal but when he does he is going to jail this time, not like in 2020.

God told them that Trump would win, but then Trump didn't.
Somebody, maybe God, is to blame for Trump's first loss and there will be Hell to pay if Trump loses a second time. They will stop believing God is good and become atheists to show their displeasure with God.

Pro-Trump Pastor Accused by Own Brother of Stealing Prophecies

By Adeola Adeosun | Aug 10, 2024 at 4:53 PM EDT

https://www.newsweek.com/jeremiah-josiah-johnson-pro-trump-fake-prophe
cies-1937428

In a shocking familial dispute that has rocked the evangelical world, a prominent pro-Trump pastor and self-proclaimed prophet has been accused by his own brother of fabricating holy messages and stealing prophecies from other Christian leaders according to a new report by The Washington Post.

North Carolina pastor Jeremiah Johnson, 36, who rose to fame in conservative Christian circles for his prophetic claims about former President Donald Trump, is facing allegations from his older brother Josiah, 37, that he has been "completely and totally fabricating" his visions and messages.

The accusation comes amid growing scrutiny of the role played by evangelical leaders in promoting Trump's false claims about the 2020 election and the subsequent January 6 Capitol Riots.

Newsweek contacted Jeremiah at The Ark Fellowship Church, as well as Trump's spokesperson via email on Saturday for further comment.

Jeremiah Johnson said he will end his ministry, Jeremiah Johnson Ministries, after apologizing for inaccurately prophesying former President Donald Trump's reelection. Jeremiah's brother Josiah now accuses his brother of stealing divine messages.

Josiah Johnson, himself a pastor leading a small ministry in Alabama, took to social media to voice his concerns about his brother's practices. In a Facebook post to his 5,000 followers, he questioned what would happen if people found out their favorite prophet or pastor was "completely and totally fabricating their dreams, visions, and prophetic words."

The elder Johnson alleges that his brother has a history of appropriating others' words and passing them off as divine revelations. He claims that Jeremiah once used a poem Josiah had written, titled "the boom in the upper room," and presented it as a prophecy during a conference in 2018.

Jeremiah, who runs a North Carolina church with hundreds of congregants and markets himself as a "globally recognized prophet," has denied the accusations from his brother. In a statement to his 328,000 Facebook followers, he wrote that he had been "publicly slandered, threatened, and falsely accused online by my older brother Josiah."

The dispute has exposed deep rifts within the Johnson family and the broader evangelical community. Joseph Johnson, the brothers' father and a retired pastor, has reportedly sided with Jeremiah, telling Josiah that criticizing the prophet was akin to criticizing God.

This family drama unfolds against the backdrop of a larger reckoning within the evangelical prophetic movement. Many self-styled prophets, including Jeremiah Johnson, had confidently predicted Trump's re-election in 2020 reports the Post. When these prophecies failed to materialize, it sparked a crisis of credibility within certain segments of the evangelical world.

Jeremiah Johnson had previously gained attention for apologizing and temporarily shutting down his ministry after his incorrect prediction about Trump's re-election.

In a video posted to his Facebook page following the January 6 insurrection, he confessed, "I was wrong." At the time, he stated, "I believe that it is a tremendous mistake to take the next four years to argue and debate and cause division and grow more prideful talking about how we think the election was taken from Donald Trump. I actually believe we need to take the next four years and humble ourselves."

However, he soon returned to the public eye with a rebranded ministry in North Carolina and continued to make political prophecies on his YouTube page.

Josiah's accusations go beyond mere familial rivalry. He claims that his brother's actions are spiritually dangerous, potentially leading vulnerable believers astray.

The fallout from this public dispute has been swift and severe for Josiah. He claims to have been blocked on social media by hundreds of mutual friends and family members. A 25-page document titled "Warning the Body of Christ About Josiah Johnson" has also been circulated online, accusing him of being "full of envy and malice."

Despite the backlash, Josiah remains steadfast in his mission to expose what he sees as false prophecy. He reportedly texted his brother expressing his love, but the message failed to send, suggesting that Jeremiah may have blocked his brother's number.

Donald Trump is yelling on Truth Social that Harris is a CHEATER who uses AI to make it look like big crowds greeted her at the airport:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
Has anyone noticed that Kamala CHEATED at the airport? There was nobody at the plane, and she "A.I.'d" it, and showed a massive "crowd" of so-called followers, BUT THEY DIDN'T EXIST! She was turned in by a maintenance worker at the airport when he noticed the fake crowd picture, but there was nobody there, later confirmed by the reflection of the mirror like finish on the Vice Presidential Plane. She's a CHEATER. She had NOBODY waiting, and the "crowd" looked like 10,000 people! Same thing is happening with her fake "crowds" at her speeches. This is the way the Democrats win Elections, by CHEATING - And they're even worse at the Ballot Box. She should be disqualified because the creation of a fake image is ELECTION INTERFERENCE. Anyone who does that will cheat at ANYTHING!

There you have it. Trump has been driven completely over the edge into madness by his tiny crowds compared to Harris's huge ones.

It's been a remarkable few weeks. It turns out lots of voters really don't like Trump's constant catastrophism and were just waiting for someone to make them feel better. That's really all Harris has been doing, and Trump doesn't know what to do about it. Making up stupid names falls flat in the face of honest exuberance, and Trump has no Plan B.

Trump is losing it because he's afraid of losing

By Robert Reich | August 12, 2024

https://www.alternet.org/trump-is-cracking-up-because-his-fragile-ego-
can-t-take-it
/

As the Harris-Walz team soars (polls are already showing Kamala taking the lead), Trump is cracking up.

His ego can’t take it. He is freaking out that his opponent — a Black woman — has more energy and momentum behind her than he has.

Last Thursday, after ten days of Kamala in the limelight, Trump was so desperate for attention that he held a news conference that provided no news.

During it, Trump absurdly claimed that his January 6, 2021, rally on the National Mall was larger than Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1963 rally, when he gave his “I Have a Dream” speech. (King’s speech had summoned 250,000 to the Mall. Trump’s rally drew 53,000, according to the House Select Committee that investigated the events of January 6.)

King’s rally also led to the signing of the Civil Rights Act. Trump’s rally led to a deadly assault on the U.S. Capitol.

Why would Trump want to remind anyone of what he did on January 6, 2021?

He can’t help himself. He keeps repeating that the 2020 election was stolen, even though the claim turns off independent voters and does nothing to advance his case against Kamala Harris.

Over the weekend, he posted a link to a 2021 document questioning the security of Georgia’s voting machines. When he made a campaign stop in Georgia the previous Saturday, Trump attacked Georgia’s Republican governor, Brian Kemp, and Republican secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger — both of whom won reelection in 2022 despite Trump’s vocal opposition.

Why is Trump attacking Republican leaders in Georgia instead of Kamala Harris? Because Trump will never forgive Kemp and Raffensperger for not joining his attempt to overturn the 2020 election in the Peach State.

Trump told the crowd that Kemp is “a bad guy, he’s a disloyal guy and he’s a very average Governor,” adding that if it “wasn’t for me, he would not be your Governor. I think everybody knows that.”

Trump’s rant against Kemp is particularly absurd because he needs Kemp’s organization in Georgia to help him in the race against Harris.

Why is Trump going on about the 2020 election being “stolen” anyway? That claim cost Republicans two Senate seats in Georgia’s special elections in January 2021 because it depressed turnout among Republicans who assumed their ballots wouldn’t count.

When Trump does talk about Harris, he’s unable to focus on the policies on which he could criticize her, such as the southern border, but dredges up racist tropes such as whether she’s “really Black.”

He mispronounces her name and attacks her with ideological platitudes, as he did last Friday at a rally in Montana when he proclaimed that “America cannot survive for four more years of this bumbling communist lunatic.”

Trump’s ego has been so injured by the huge turnout at Kamala’s rallies that he’s now claiming they’re “fake.”

Yesterday, in multiple posts to his Truth Social platform, he asserted that the huge crowd at her Detroit-area rally was faked by AI. It “DIDN’T EXIST,” he posted. “Nobody was there.”

On Wednesday, he complained that:

“If Kamala has 1,000 people at a Rally, the Press goes ‘crazy,’ and talks about how ‘big’ it was - And she pays for her ‘Crowd.’ When I have a Rally, and 100,000 people show up, the Fake News doesn’t talk about it, THEY REFUSE TO MENTION CROWD SIZE. The Fake News is the Enemy of the People!”

None of this has anything to do with how Kamala would govern America or whether she’d be a good president, but Trump appears incapable of separating his fragile ego from his desperation to get attention and get even rather than get elected president.

He’s attacking everyone and everything. After The New York Times ran a piece a few days ago about the “the worst three weeks” of his campaign, Trump exploded at what he called “the Failing New York Times, which is a crooked newspaper run by a Radical Left group of Lunatics … losing readers at a record level.”

He’s making up stuff that has nothing whatsoever to do with Harris or Walz, such as a “scary” helicopter ride with California’s Willie Brown that never happened.

Trump is cracking because the attention and positive energy generated by Harris and Walz are threatening his ego so much he cannot focus on his opponent. So he falls back on the size of her crowds relative to his, her “Blackness,” the “stolen election,” his grievances against Republicans who didn’t support him, and The New York Times.

Trump’s rage has sometimes worked for him in the past, but it is not working against Harris and Walz because they are running by a playbook that’s fueled by excitement and hope rather than grievance and narcissism.

MAGA is now boycotting donuts

August 11, 2024 at 2:00PM CDT

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/8/11/2262049/-America-runs-on-du
mbness-MAGA-is-now-boycotting-donuts

“Prominent” MAGA-world influencers are boycotting Dunkin’ Donuts because they say the company is boycotting the right-wing video platform Rumble by not advertising there. You might know Rumble as the super racist version of YouTube. Ironically, its chief executive Chris Pavlovski claimed the platform “will not be bullied by cancel culture.”

Right-wing extremists are the only ones who can do the bullying and the canceling around here! So look out, Dunkin’. Your 13,200 locations are now added to a very long list of targets for MAGA hate, from Amazon to yoga and everything in between. Some recent highlights:

1. Disney.

This is one of the longest running feuds in MAGA land, preceding the MAGA movement itself. Back in 1995, the Florida Baptist Convention and other groups started boycotting everything Disney because the company decided to extend health insurance coverage to same-sex partners of employees. Then came Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Disney’s opposition to his “don’t say gay” bill. Olaf must die! (Along with all his merchandise.)

2. Doritos.

This boycott crossed borders. Doritos Spain unveiled a social media campaign with Spanish transgender influencer Samantha Hudson. The company ended its contract with Hudson when some pretty awful comments she made when she was a teenager surfaced.

3. Budweiser.

MAGA has had a problem with Budweiser for years, since it ran a pro-immigrant Super Bowl ad in 2017, just before Donald Trump instituted his immigration ban and tensions were high over his plans. Things settled down until the company hired a trans influencer named Dylan Mulvaney for a campaign in 2023. Things then got really stupid, culminating with has-been “rapper” Kid Rock posting a video of himself shooting up cases of the beer.

4. Oreos.

Seriously, Oreos. "I do not like gay cookies," Newsmax host Greg Kelly wrote on Twitter. The cookies were deemed “gay” when Oreo sponsored a short film together with advocacy group PFLAG depicting a young man preparing to come out to his grandmother by practicing in front of his family. The horror!

5. Keurig.

This is a personal favorite. Back in 2017, Keurig decided to stop advertising on Fox News host Sean Hannity’s show because he is an objectively awful person (and because the coffee company was subject to a consumer movement asking the company to stop advertising on Fox). Hannity was so inflamed he called for a boycott. But since coffee makers aren’t something you buy everyday, unlike snacks or beer, Hannity fans responded by smashing up their coffee makers—which they had already spent money on. Perfect.

6. Lego.

Those on the right really do hate children, don’t they? The toy company came under MAGA fire in 2023 for a campaign in the U.K. that featured a video titled "the A-Z of awesome—a LEGO celebration of the beautiful, powerful language of the LGBTQIA+ community." The company was accused of producing “transgender building sets” targeted at 5-year-olds by Caitlyn Jenner's political action committee Fairness First. The company clarified: "The information on Twitter is false. We have not released any LGBTQIA+ sets aimed at children. A-Z of Awesome was a marketing campaign released last year that featured sets built by our amazing adult fans. None of these sets are for sale." Sigh.

7. Chick-fil-A.

A onetime darling of the far right for its then-CEO’s vocal opposition to marriage equality, the company was disowned by the right in 2023 for trying to diversify its workforce.

8. Cracker Barrel.

The company that was once notorious for being the target of a lawsuit accusing it of “widespread racism, from segregating black customers in the smoking section to denying them service,” got on the bad side of the far right last year when it went “woke.” The crime? Celebrating Pride Month on the company website, along with a picture of rocking chairs painted in the colors of the rainbow.

9. NASCAR.

Remember in 2020, when NASCAR decided it wasn’t such a good idea to have the Confederate flag at its events? Yeah, that.

Just how hard is it for these people to be surrounded by companies, products, and people that might espouse different ideas and values? This hard:

Charlie Kirk: "I'm going through my refrigerator and I'm starting to ask the question: Was this ketchup bottle woke? Is this mustard? I mean, literally." https://t.co/ncSHJR12v3

Here Are the Secret Backers of All Those Trump “Election Integrity” Efforts

By Brendan Fischer | Aug 12, 2024, 10:30 AM

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2024/08/secret-trump-2024-election
-integrity-campaign.html

Battles over “election integrity” are sometimes cast as policy-oriented disagreements about how elections should be administered, or even as partisan efforts to gain a political advantage. But the money behind this movement shows how efforts to restrict the freedom to vote are best seen as a means to a reactionary end. Far-right political actors that cannot achieve their policy goals through democratic means are increasingly taking aim at democracy itself.

Wide majorities of American voters support abortion rights, marriage equality, and fair treatment for LGBTQ+ people. Wealthy special interests who want to roll back these rights recognize that they cannot advance their unpopular agenda through the democratic process—so they seek to alter the rules of democracy in order to exert rule over the majority without majority support.

Nowhere is this clearer than in a recent investigation from ProPublica and Documented into an under-the-radar Christian-nationalist-aligned funding network called “Ziklag,” which describes itself as a “private, confidential, invitation-only community of high-net-worth families.” According to the report, the minimum net worth for entry is $25 million.

While most people have never heard of Ziklag, they are likely familiar with the group’s financial backers, which include the owners of Hobby Lobby, heirs to the Uihlein shipping supply fortune, and the founders of the Jockey apparel corporation.

With their support, Ziklag has outlined plans for Christians to “take dominion” over spheres of public life including government, science and technology, business, church, education, and family—called “Seven Mountains” theology—and to fund projects aimed at reshaping and conquering each sphere.

In pursuit of these goals, the group is channeling millions of dollars toward backing anti-transgender ballot measures (one internal document reads “Transgender acceptance = Final sign before imminent collapse”), and backing a plot to “take down the education system as we know it,” as well as supporting Turning Point Action’s efforts to mobilize Arizona voters “sympathetic to Republicans” in order to secure “10,640 additional unique votes” to sway the election for Trump.

Christian right donors funding efforts to undermine LGBTQ+ rights and attack public education may be unsurprising, but here’s what’s less expected: Their strategic plan also includes pouring millions of dollars into efforts to promote election conspiracy theories and undermine the freedom to vote. It calls this funding project “Operation Checkmate.”

Ziklag announced plans to give $800,000 to Eagle AI, a controversial mass voter challenge software program being utilized by activists in states like Georgia and Florida to generate thousands of thinly sourced challenges to voter eligibility. It is backed by former Trump lawyer Cleta Mitchell, who infamously joined the former president’s infamous phone call where he urged Georgia’s secretary of state to “find” for him the exact number of votes that he needed to tip the 2020 election in that state. A newly formed group called “Citizen AG” has also announced plans to file lawsuits against counties that reject Eagle AI–generated voter challenges. Citizen AG’s website described the project as part of “Operation Checkmate.”

Earlier, Ziklag provided the seed funding for Mitchell’s Election Integrity Network, financing events that formed coalitions of election conspiracy theorists in Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida. The group also funded the American Legislative Exchange Council, or ALEC, to provide “election integrity” messaging guidance for GOP state lawmakers in 2022.

Given that Ziklag’s primary goal is to “redirect the trajectory of American culture” and take control of government to advance goals that lack widespread public support—like ending abortion, wrecking public schools, and restricting LGBTQ+ rights—the group’s funding for mass voter challenges reflects the profoundly undemocratic nature of their project. It’s a deliberate strategy to entrench minority viewpoints through procedural manipulation, ensuring that even when they lack broad public support, they can still exert control over legislative outcomes.

This is part of a larger playbook designed to maintain minority rule despite lacking popular support.
For example, in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, voters in red and blue states across the country supported ballot measures to protect abortion rights. In response, a Christian nationalist–aligned billionaire secretly financed a coordinated, state-by-state effort to raise the threshold for passing citizen ballot initiatives to a nearly impossible to attain supermajority.

We must recognize these “election integrity” efforts for what they really are: a brazen attempt by wealthy special interests to entrench minority rule through manipulation and distortion of electoral processes.

Oh boy, oh boy! Kamala is up 0.4 points in the aggregate after 3 weeks of gaslighting without any real interviews or a debate!

On this day in 2020: Biden +7.5

On this day in 2016: Clinton +6.3

Biden won that popularity contest by less than 4 points, and we all know what happened in 2016.

Harris will NEVER rise above 1 or 2 points in the aggregate on Trump, even with the gaslighting. She's peaked. This is her plateau.

Once they can't hide her anymore and everybody gets to see how dumb she is and how toxic her policies are for our country, it's all over for you.

Maybe some of you will finally stop blindly believing everything MSNBC tells you once this happens.

Hope you're really enjoying yourselves in the meantime.

Trump held 22 rallies from July 1 to August 10, 2016. During that same time frame this year, Trump held just eight. Meanwhile, unlike Trump, JD Vance makes far more major appearances on the campaign trail given his ability to stay on message.

While Trump often speaks with local media outlets in swing states and gives interviews to “friendly” national media organizations like Fox News, the slowdown in events raises questions regarding his campaign strategy.

When asked why he wasn’t campaigning more, like JD Vance is campaigning, Trump responded by calling the question “stupid.”

Now, campaign experts tell The Independent this slowdown in campaign rallies is likely the product of several factors — including his unpredictability on stage and off-putting theories that could turn off swing voters.

Trump’s campaign could be strategically limiting the number of live rallies as a form of damage control, Evan Siegfried, a political strategist who previously worked on GOP campaigns, told The Independent.

The less he’s seen in public and at rallies, Siegfried said, the fewer opportunities there are for him to “riff and go off script” to spread conspiracy theories and grievances.

“The real people who are going to choose this election are in seven states, and they represent a very thin swath of the entire electorate in this country,” Siegfried said.

These falsehoods and grievances, such as Trump’s baseless claim that Harris “happened to turn Black” to win over voters, are “the crazy stuff” that can turn off swing voters, according to Siegfried.

“They don’t care about Donald Trump’s grievances – if anything they don’t like Donald Trump’s grievances, they don’t want to hear them,” he continued.

The ultimate problem, Siegfried said, is that Trump lacks “message discipline.” The strategist also noted his running mate, JD Vance, will continue to make major appearances on the campaign trail given his ability to stay on message.

As long as I’ve covered Republican campaigns, there has been racial fearmongering: Dark-skinned people are coming to hurt you. Be very afraid.

With Reagan, it was “welfare queens” glomming onto tax-free cash income.

With George H.W. Bush, it was Willie Horton. Liberals would give more criminals like Horton furloughs, so they could break into your house and rape your girlfriend.

With George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, it was Arab terrorists. Democrats would let them invade America and kill us.

With Donald Trump, it was migrants swarming over the border from Central and South America with the intent to rape and kill, as well as the racist “birther” conspiracy about “Barack HUSSEIN Obama.”

Trump, who adopted his father’s view that some bloodlines are “superior” to others, has slipped into the usual Republican race-baiting by purposely fumbling Kamala Harris’s name, mispronouncing it different ways and christening her “Kamabla.”

I guess you don't remember that in past Democratic Conventions the candidate was not picked quickly because the delegates could not make up their minds and settle on one candidate. The way the system works is that millions of Democrats leave the final decision to the Convention, not to retarded Trumptards' understanding of what "Democracy" means. I guess it's time I started paying attention to what the candidates say.

Not that I expect to hear anyone's actual plans ... Harris is an opportunist who will say whatever it is she's told to say to win (Harris, unscripted, sounds like a slow 5 year old 'splainin' something to a four year old) and Trump will blurt out whatever pops into his head to throw at the audience... but it will give me an idea of who's backing Harris, and who Trump is appealing to.

I already know and disagree with Trump's deep affiliation with Israel and his hatred of Iran.

Let's see what else they have to say.

Time to wade thru the dreck.

Sigh.

Elon Musk and X provided a public service.

The X Spaces interview delivered Donald Trump without makeup or dress-up, formless and endless talk. You might think a major-party presidential nominee would have other claims on his time, some sort of deadline, if only to get some sleep to ready himself for the next day’s campaigning. But no. At no point in the explosion of talk could one guess whether it would continue for another five minutes or another five hours.

Presidential campaigns typically struggle against the limits of time, especially as they enter the final autumn stretch. There are only so many days, so many hours, to reach so many millions of people across this vast country. The candidate’s minutes are a limited and precious resource, to be allocated by art and science to best effect. Yet Trump seemed to have no budget for his time, no plan of campaign—and nothing else to do, nowhere else to go.

Trump’s not running against President Joe Biden anymore, yet he talked about Biden at least as much as about his actual opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. He still lacked any clear or memorable critique of her, except for his derisive comments about her supposed inability to do the kind of interview that he, Trump, was making such a desperate hash of. Trump is the challenger and the topic should be the Biden-Harris record, but he preferred to reminisce about his own good old days.

This is Trump’s problem. For all his jibes at her intellect, Harris is managing time effectively. Whereas Trump, who endlessly congratulates himself on his MIT-professor uncle’s brains, is fast arriving at the “Will you please shut up?” phase of his political descent.

Meandering, solipsistic, and crushingly boring—the interview was an awful premonition of the rest of Trump’s life should he lose again, in November: wandering the corridors of his clubs, going from table to table, buttonholing the dwindling number of guests, monologuing relentlessly until they squirm away.

Trump and Musk are sued for threatening to fire unionizing employees

Trump said, “I look at what you do, you walk in and you just say, ‘You want to quit?’ They go on strike – I won’t mention the name of the company – but they go on strike, and you say, ‘That’s okay, you’re all gone. You’re all gone. Every one of you is gone.”

Musk could be heard laughing and replying “yeah.”

The UAW filed separate charges against Trump and Musk Monday to the National Labor Relations Board.

The charges claim the former president and the Tesla CEO had “interfered with, restrained or coerced employees” who were exercising their right to organize against the company, “suggesting he would fire employees engaged in protected concerted activity, including striking.”

Musk's Tesla, the largest non-union American automaker, is a target for the union’s organizing efforts.

August 12, 2024 - It’s a gray and muggy Sunday afternoon, and Nate Silver had just a few hours earlier republished his widely followed election model. After months of Trump’s being ahead, Kamala Harris was his new front-runner with a 52.8 percent chance of victory.

No he didn't. You know full well he didn't. We were looking at that thing every day.

After the debate Trump was up on the coin flip, after the assassination attempt Trump was actually losing that coin flip. The day before Biden announced he was bowing out Trump was up by 51%.

We've got that history right here in these boards and you know that we do.

Stop letting them lie to you, especially when you can so very easily disprove it.

What is wrong with you?

One of the worst character traits of Trumptards, including Trump, is their weakness at handling adversity. In the face of adversity, large or small, Trumptards have mental breakdowns. 6ix, in the event of election loss, you and Trump won't be showing courage or fortitude or, even, sanity.

Donald Trump Looks Ready to Absolutely Decimate Truth Social Investors

Donald Trump spent Monday providing free publicity for the main competitor of his publicly traded social media company.

After Trump’s Twitter ban, he started Truth Social and housed it under Trump Media & Technology (stock ticker: DJT). The stock lost 5 percent of its value on Monday and was in a continued slide on Tuesday morning. Apparently, it is not good for confidence in a business when the majority owner of that business spends his time propping up a direct competitor that provides the entire basis for the owner’s copycat business.

Trump Media lost $16 million in the quarter on $837,000 in revenue. That is actually pretty good by this company’s standards. In the first quarter, the company brought in about the same amount and lost more than $300 million, because it is, again, not an actual business geared toward making money. Trump Media is somehow a nearly $5 billion company. Its main business is cash incineration, with a light side-dish of advertising.

Trump Media is a $5 billion company because Trump’s fans think it is cool to own a company that trades as $DJT and supports Trump.

What Trump Media does have is a concrete association with Trump, who the company says owns 57.6 percent of the stock. To the extent there is any business case for Trump Media, it is that Truth Social is the one where Donald Trump personally hangs out, and thus it is the one where his monetizable fanbase hangs out. This isn’t true—the big names in conservative media and most of the rank and file are still on X, TikTok, and the like—but it’s a story.

Trump returning to X blows up that idea. The longer he sticks around there, the more untenable it is for his otherwise junk company—one in which his own stake is still worth well over $2 billion—to retain any value at all. It is staggering to imagine that anyone who has a large, non-short-selling stake in Trump Media would ever have any desire to hurt Donald Trump, but maybe an enterprising class-action attorney would like to take a shot. Nowhere in the company’s “risk factors” filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission does Trump Media mention the company’s majority owner going out of his way to make a different social media site the most important place in conservative media. Yet that’s what Trump did when he agreed to a live chat with Musk on X, rather than Truth Social.

In September, Trump could begin selling shares, using his ownership of this spectacular money-losing venture to redistribute money from his investors’ pockets to his own.

Maybe Trump can cash out and convince legions of 36-year-old men on the Robinhood investment app that continuing to buy and hold Trump Media stock is the only way to save the country from Kamala Harris’ implementation of full communism. Anything — except Trump Media working out well in the long term for anybody other than Donald Trump and a few pals — appears possible.

That's not a legitimate reply.

I'm pointing out a lie that you're parroting that you know for sure is a lie because we were both talking about it nearly every single day right before it was taken down.

Address the issue at hand, or don't reply to me.

In the meantime, your guy won 4 years ago and I've watched your slow descent into insanity regardless. Don't talk to me or anybody else about their mental fortitude. Get yourself some help.

Hamm, a sharecropper’s son who rose to become one of the world’s richest men, would seem to be an unlikely power broker. He doesn’t travel with an entourage and doesn’t keep a high profile. Yet he has emerged as a central figure in cajoling the oil industry to finance Trump’s reelection bid, and in communicating to the ex-president what the oil industry wants to improve its fortunes in a second Trump term.

His message appears to be resonating with some of the country’s wealthiest oil magnates, who are banking on Trump’s promises to reverse dozens of Biden’s environmental rules and policies.

The money has been flowing in. The oil and gas industry has contributed more than $20.3 million to the Trump campaign, pro-Trump super PACs and the Republican National Committee in the 2024 cycle, according to data from OpenSecrets. Trump is expected to do more oil and gas events later this year, aides say.
