Sleeping on the floor tonight, Brenda?

Been a while since I did that. I think I slept on a mattress on the floor for a few weeks when I first moved into this house while I was taking care of more important stuff like gutting all of the mold out of the basement.

I remember the last apartment I had the only things I brought with me were a TV, a DVD player, a few DVDs and my inflatable mattress. Moving sucks.

. . . At a rally this past weekend in North Carolina, Trump declared that “a vote for Kamala Harris means 40 or 50 million more illegal aliens will invade across our borders, stealing your money, stealing your jobs, stealing your life.” Chillingly, he added that migrants were already “attacking villages and cities all throughout the Midwest.”

This is only 'bad' if you're an illegal alien. But it's good to call for America to protect its borders.
Right?
Unless you're FOR illegal aliens.

Yanno what what Trump is NOT doing?

He's not turning one half of America against the other half, pitting blacks against whites, atheists against Christians, and advocating that 'they' be jailed because of some made-up crime of 'extremism'
He's not calling for more war (except in the mideast, which is a terrible mistake).
He's not calling for censorship bc of some made up crime of 'disinformation" or 'hate speech'
He's not imposing social values from some central authority
He's advocating re-industrialization
He wants border control.

How is any of that 'bad'?
Dood, we've had four years of you, and look where we are now.
Our military is in one hot war, and trying to divide itself between that and two others.
We've been invaded by tens of millions of illegal aliens.
We're broke, nationally, financially, and individually.
We're worse off than four years ago
Why should you get another bite of the apple?

No, I didn't. Got together what I could and put the styrofoam pieces on it and slept on that. Thing is that it is missing 4 big screws to hold the legs to the arms and one piece is slightly bent but enough that you can't the next piece into it, so that isn't going to hold. I did sleep on it last night cause I haven't got anything else.

IMHO there's nothing wrong with sleeping in the floor, as long as there's something comfortable in between and the floor isn't cold and damp. And you don't have arthritis and can get up off the floor. The Japanese did that traditionally all the time.

****
Pricing out two options for fixing or revising the irrigation system. I now know the difference between an atmospheric vacuum breaker (not recommended as backflow preventer for irrigation systems) and a pressure vacuum breaker (OK).

Also gathering up info from my healthcare providers for my second opinion at UCLA. There's some interesting stuff in there. My very first question will be: Do I have GPA?

Well, I did a quick pricing out of two approaches to the irrigation system.

One option is to take out the current automatic sprinkler valves, many of which leak or are stuck (There are ten of them) from each zone and replace them with ball valves. But in order to do that, I'd need to have a pressure regulator and pressure vacuum breaker (PVB, anti-siphon) valve installed on the main irrigation supply line to replace the ones that are part of the current (old) individual controller valves.

I would have to manually open and close each valve on each zone to irrigate. That means that automatic watering in wee hours, when the soil is at its coolest -and best for natives- probably wouldn't happen bc who the hell is gonna get up at 0300 just to crank some valves?

OTOH ball valves are extremely reliable, and I wouldn't have any out of control or stuck zones running invisibly in the early AM.

The purist in me favors that approach.

The other option is to go around and just replace like for like, with new automatic sprinkler valves all the way around. I would also need to replace the programmable controller box, which is a POS, and add a second controller box for the backyard. That would allow me to test each backyard zone under direct observation without having to run back and forth between the backyard and the current controller box which is in the front, and which is a PITA.

Material wise, it's a wash. Having to put an expensive pressure regulator and PVB up front is counterbalanced by having to buy 10 moderately expensive automatic sprinkler valves and 2 controllers all the way around. But labor wise, I would need a plumber to put in the pressure regulator and PVB which would be an additional cost. I think it's worth the $$ but hubby's $$ too, so I'll see what he thinks.

Conrade signym, lives the American dream while betraying America. You support the butcher Putin and Trump the head of the KKK. You need to remove the American flags from your signature. And it's not lost on me you do not use the flags here.

That takes a conscious effort on your part to delete them from your posts here. Then put them back on your signature when you post elsewhere.

This thread is where you run to after supporting Putin the butcher and Trump the head of the KKK in mine and other threads.

I show the Ukrainian flag to show I support them. It's in one thread only and I rarely display it, attach it to a post there. In my case comrade, it goes without saying I love America. When it comes to you, comrade, comrade says it all.

Does it really look like I'm running away here, THGR?
I know BRENDA favors Harris.
I'm pretty sure she knows my opinion on geopolitics.
So, am I trying to gin up support for my POV here?
Am I trying to make her choose between me and you, like you are?
No.

It's YOU that runs away.
It's YOU that can't, or won't, answer questions and resorts instead to name calling.
It's YOU that can't, or won't, explain IN YOUR OWN WORDS why I should vote for Harris.
It's YOU pining for GSTRING's moral support bc you can't stand on your own two feet.

The only good thing going on weather wise around me is some much needed rain especially up in the Peace river country which has been really dry and seen a lot fires this past summer.

Also there was a small earthquake off the coast of Vancouver Island. It was 55 meters down. No damage done and it could be felt as far as the Fraser Valley. I didn't feel a thing. No tsunami warnings were issued or damage to property and such. Some people reported their homes shaking.

I haven't heard anything about Covid around here for over a year unless somebody was talking about how Democrats ruined the economy or changed all the voting rules to win the 2020 election.

Covid is still a thing by you? Are you sure that's not just California politics?

Don't think it is serious but she could have caught a cold with all the rain we have had. She's hoping she'll be better by Monday. So we shall see.

I'm not saying that I didn't know of anybody in the last year who says they got Covid. I just haven't heard anything in the news about it is all.

Probably by design, I suppose. Don't want to remind any of the voters what the first 2 years of Joe Biden*'s administration were like this close to the election.

Back and done for today. Lamb chops got for supper on Sunday, my 60th. Also got another small spot cleaned up and dusted. A small table I keep by my bed with some writing. This stuff is just writing I do for myself and some comic books that I have bought over the last couple of years, I guess. *L*

I also bought 3 comic books today as a birthday present to myself. And they are all Wolverines. My favourite X-Man and fellow Canuck.

Wolverine was always my favorite.

I'd say that Gambit was #2 and Rogue was #3 (and I realize all my picks are none of the original cast).

I heard that Gambit was in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie, so that will be cool to finally see when I watch it.

No offense to Anna Pauin, but they did Rogue dirty in those original movies. She was not the right actress for that role. Hopefully they do a better job overall with the casting of X-Men whenever they really try to bring them back.

The only problem now is that they're never going to find somebody who can do Wolverine better than Jackman, so there's always going to be something to complain about.

Wolverine's always been my favourite X-Man as I said then Gambit. Gots to love a southern accent. *L* Never been fond of Rogue even in the comics. Don't know why.

Oooh, not sure if I knew that or not. That will be cool when I see it.

You have a point. Anna Paquin was too young for the part. Someone just a hair older would have been better.

Oh, I so agree. No one plays Wolverine like Hugh and I can't think of an actor now who could replace him. If they do another one in the next few years, I am sure I will be complaining. I love Hugh.

I liked Rogue. That whole idea of never being able to touch anybody you care about because you will kill them... She's essentially the most powerful mutant of all the mutants assuming she can get close enough to somebody to steal their powers, but it's the worst possible power you could have at the same time.

Yeah. I just double checked after getting your hopes up and Gambit IS in D&W. He's played by Channing Tatum. I don't believe he's ever been in anything I've watched, but believe he's quite the ladies man. Not sure how well he fits in the roll.

I remember now my old man mentioning it to me the day after he saw it when he said that Wesley Snipes was in it playing Blade too. My old man has 2 copies of X-Men #1-100 in great condition. He stopped collecting comics some time before I was born though so he didn't even know who Gambit was. He said he thinks that a lot of the jokes went over his head in that movie because he is so far behind on comics and he wants to watch it again so I can fill him in on things. I'll be able to do some of that, but at this point I'm about 20 years behind on comic lore myself.

Yeah. Hugh IS Wolverine.

Oh... and they're going to have a hell of a time replacing Beast too. When I first heard that Kelsey Grammer was going to play Beast I got a pretty good laugh out of that, but he was perfect in that role with a lot of makeup and a little CGI.

Rogue is one of the more tragic mutants for sure. In the comics she often paired with Gambit because they are both from the South.

I know Channing's name but I'm not sure I've even seen him in anything either. Shall have to see. Gambit also had a habit of getting under Wolverine's skin as well.

Cool for your dad. I had to give up collecting before my mom died because I was looking after her so much. Didn't have the time. I've some how managed to keep up with them without collecting, so we shall see when I see this movie.

Oh, Hugh definitely is.

I remember wondering, "Huh" when I heard about Kelsey as Beast. But he was good in the part. Beast is a smart dude and a doctor. So perfect match.

I don't know if you've ever heard about the Nostalgia Critic on YouTube before. I've watched him on on off the last few years. Just yesterday I was watching their video on the 2000 X-Men movie. And he was playing the roll of the older guy who was young when the X-Men movie came out trying to sell the young guy on how great the original X-Men movies were so they watched it together. They made a joke in there I thought was pretty funny about the first time you saw Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. They show the scene in that cage fight where he turns around for the first time with the shirt off and the young guy said "did I just become gay"? And the Nostalgia Critic says "we all did".

Oh... Happy birthday Brenda. I didn't see that until just now.

While there, she gave a ridiculous speech in which she (get this) called for tougher border security - pledging to enact various forms of immigration reform if she's elected in November, including a 5-year ban on reentry for those who enter the country illegally.

On a completely different note ... our forecast changed so fast I practically got whiplash tracking it.
Last I looked ... Thursday... we were on a comfortable slide into fall. Temps lowish 80s (27s) for the foreseeable future.

Now they're predicting temps from 89F (32C) to 94F (35C)! So I watered the property today to keep my plants alive.

Fortunately temps will be 65-ish (18-ish) at night so everything gets a chance to cool down.
