Out and about soon.

Got a bunch of rain last night. And might be more today. Guess I better drag my umbrella along just in case.

Phone call from my doc's to remind me of a phone appointment that I should have cancelled the last time I was in there. I completely forgot. I did it with the office.

Well, neurologist said that when I screwed up what I was doing on my computer last week was indeed a seizure. My hands jerked to the right and because my vision was gone for a bit, couldn't see what keys my fingers touched. Just felt them which brought me out of it and I had enlarged the site I was on. Got it fixed.

So anyways he's up the dosing on the new med and is getting me scheduled for a EEG. Haven't had one of those done since 2008. He was reading old notes made by the last neurologist I saw back then. He was really reading my file as I could hear the shock in his voice over the fact that I survived a brain tumour and it was benign as well.

I'm glad your new neuro is (ahem! Finally!) getting up to speed on your history.
Also glad you're getting an EEG.
If it were me I'd order an MRI too.
Yanno, start the whole evaluation process all over again, as if you were never seen before.
I second guess ALL my doctors when it comes to weird stuff, and I'm usually right.

Me too. Took him a bit as I am sure there is a fair bit of material there.

I'm glad about the EEG too. It's been a long time since I've had one done. After I find out what is what there we'll see if he orders anything else.

Phone call this morning and I have an appointment for an EEG next Monday at 10:30am. Have to be there an half an hour early and make sure I register at the main desk at the hospital. Need directions as I have no idea where they do that there.

Is getting to the hospital ok for you? Just a problem navigating the bowels of the building, I trust?

Well, I spent much of my "free time" over the past three days researching my ballot choices. Judgeships. State and county bond measures. Community college and water board members. MAJOR changes to how LA County Board of Supervisors is constituted (yes, please! Some of our County Sups are great, but some ... and I know this from backchannel info... are crooked-er than a dog's hind leg). Taxes. Re-criminalizing theft.

Did a fair bit of ticket- splitting. As a former scientist in a government agency, I appreciate sheer competence, and I favor people who seem to understand the scope of their position. (As people rise in rank, they can access more levers of power and their scope of action becomes greater. People who step into position with an ant's- eye view spend a lot of time learning their new job.) OTOH I will throw outsiders into a board bc boards can become too used to "how things have always been done".

And, oh my! When researching some board candidates, did I run across some scandals!

Voted for some bond measures where I thought the goals were important, specific, and achievable. Voted AGAINST another, higher sales tax to "solve homelessness ". Didn't we just do that a few years ago? Much money was collected, much money was spent (unaudited, by that same dysfunctional County Board of Sups that I mentioned earlier) and nothing was accomplished.

Anyway, that is done. Now I can turn my attention to dear daughter's next source of agitation.

I did miss the rain so that was good.

No problem getting to the hospital. I just hop on 1 bus to get there. There is a stop not far and cross a street and I am there at the hospital. The hospital is in my city. It will be navigating where to go once I get into the hospital after registering. The lady I talked to on the phone on Friday said that the front desk will give me the directions to get to them. Not sure if it is in the basement or where. If it is in medical imaging then I know basically where that area is. I've had a couple of CT scans done and a MRI over the years.

My ENT gets to dig around up my nose on Tuesday and I get to find out if there is a significant improvement in my symptoms or not. I have a little reason to hope there might be but I don't want to jinx it.

*****

After MONTHS and MONTHS of ridiculously hot summer weather, and then weeks and weeks of health issues and other stuff, I finally got to do some outdoor work today. I limited myself to raking up pine needles and sweeping up the driveway and raking up the feijoa fruit, and I filled up a couple of bins. Which just lets you know how bad it's gotten.

Wish I could do something with that fruit. It's quite tasty and can't be found in grocery stores, but it can't be picked. It won't ripen off the shrub, and has to be picked from the ground. And when it falls, it falls all at once! I think I dumped 20 lbs of fruit. Some day, if I ever have the time, I might try making brandy. Or jam.

But the weather looks good until my first scheduled infusion, so I'll be happily spending time outdoors whenever I can, doing a fall cleanup as best I can.

Looking forward to it!

Thanks. Got there in the pouring rain. Registered as I was told then had to go down to the basement. To go the neurological clinic I follow a green line and to go to the EEG, I follow a blue line.

EEG done and now I wait. Everything is digital now and so no paper and marking sounds, just a keyboard. Electrodes on both temples about 5 across my forehead, one behind each ear, one below my left eye after being asked if I was right or left handed. Makes sense. Then in the spots the technician marked on my head. Also two on my upper chest, one on each side. I was laying down for this and they turn the lights off. Guess it was half way through when he brought the light and open your eyes and close your eyes.

Whole thing took around 20 minutes maybe a bit more.

This sounds like one of those older buildings where they just kept adding on. Where I get most of my medical care the main hospital has a confusing addition. And the cancer hospital??? Oh my word! I could get lost for a day in the basement!

I get lost indoors really easily. I joke with the medical staff that if I was a rat in a maze, scientists would be looking at me and asking "What is WRONG with that one???“

I've been trying to teach dear daughter to navigate, and I realized that different people navigate differently. Some do east-west-north-south. Some people remember rights and lefts. Some people navigate by landmarks. Some people make maps in their head on the fly. Some people follow the signs, or just do what their GPS tells them. Most people do some sort of combination.

I'm an east-west kind of gal. If I'm outside and can see the sun, I'm golden. Once I'm indoors, I'm lost.

*****

I did more raking and sweeping up, this time it was pine needles from under the Canary Island pines. Like before, I filled up 2 * 65 gallon bins. I'd raked up that area a month or two ago, but since then I had someone clean off the roof and clean out the gutters. That, plus more dropped pine needles created another inch thick mess.

It's funny, as I was raking and sweeping up I was thinking what a fire hazard those needles are, and what should pop up on my phone but a red flag (high fire danger) warning as well as a wind warning. We're in a very well-watered suburb, far from the suburban - wild land interface. But still, I'm glad I cleaned up.

The hospital in my city is old. It started as a nursing school then turned into a hospital. So it has had many renditions of it over the last 100years. They are building a new addition right now which is why one sidewalk is closed off and they seem to be working on an elevator in the main area when you first go in. I got back up in the elevator from the basement and someone a nurse or a paramedic asked me if I was lost. I said, "Yes, I am a little discombobulated." They asked me where I was going and I said the main entrance to which they replied, "Follow the blue line." Though the lady did walk with me to make sure that I didn't get lost when I knew where I was I thanked them and the lady went on their way.

I'm a landmark navigator. If I have to go to another city I always ask for the buildings around where I have to go. So, I can identify them and know where to get the bus to stop and then I can retrace my route back again.

Had a nasty wind storm roll through my area. I got partially blown away and rained on again. Still got some wind here now. Can see the trees swaying and hear the glass panes rattling.
