That's why I usually take Sunday off. Need one day to relax and figure out the coming week.

Well, I would arrange it to run errands Wednesday and Saturday and take Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday off.
But that's just me. What you're doing is better for you.

Out in a bit to get some errands done like meds refill. Broken record on that one. But nothing I can do really. Suppose to rain and wind on me today, so umbrella is needed.

*Hugs*

I face vampires next year but I may be able to wiggle out of doing it twice a year. My thyroid has been stable for a long time, so the locum who was in for my regular doc is making a recommendation for 1nce a year. So, I will see.

Seriously? I'm kinda pissed on your behalf

This isn't the first, second, or third time. Seems like a regular occurrence. If you have a phone, call them up and complain! And then complain when you go again! It's not like you can just hop in a car. Let them know your situation. Maybe they can arrange free delivery.

****

The dog took me for a walk again after our blood test.

I wouldn't call it a regular occurrence but that is just me. I'm not sure what their drug shipments are like meaning how often they get their supplies. They know I depend on the buses in the city. I have complained to them when they screwed up my thyroid med a few months ago and even complained to my doctor. Between the two of us we got that straightened out. That as you know is the major one.

I prefer dealing with things like doctors and pharmacists in person, so I can complain or ask questions. Like when there was a mess up between the pharmacy and the neurologist's office, though I did do some of that on the phone. They gave me enough to get over the weekend so I will deal with them next week.

Yay! for the dog. At least you were dry.

Looks like no pick up game of mah jong for me tomorrow but other things to do. Hopefully it will be drier than today.

Big wind and rain storm rolling in. My area is getting rain right now. Numerous ferry sailings have been cancelled between the Mainland and Vancouver Island and most like some of the smaller islands up the coast as well.

Got back officially after 5pm. Originally I got back about 12:30 but found a message on my answering machine asking me to come play a pick up game of mah jong. So I did. Didn't win but maybe tomorrow at my regular game.

Haha!
Yeah, sorry about that. My infusion was canceled by my doctor, which gives me a reprieve on landscaping. She wants to try a different med first. So whatever time I can scratch together from the day-to-day (which for some reason has been taking up an inordinate amount if time) has been outdoors.

But I have been following along, just not posting.

Robert Pascal. Had to look him up. He's been in a lot of TV, including Game of Thrones, and he looks really, really familiar. I just can't put a character's name on his face. Yeah, he's good looking all right!

No worries. I figure when I don't see you around you are busy with medical or outside stuff. Also my lame attempt at humour.

Yup, Pedro was in "Game of Thrones" as Oberyn Martell. His character was killed by Gregor Cleagane, brother to Sandor.

He was also in a show called "Narcos" which was about taking down a famous head of a drug cartel from Bogata if I am remembering rightly. Also he's been in "The Mandalorian". He's also in "Gladiator 2" playing the grown up Lucius.

Oh yeah. Hot stuff from Chile for sure.

I hope you didn't get mad about my spoilers without an alert on Season 2 a while back.

The first game was considered on release as one of the greatest games ever made. It was right around the time where people were really starting to respect video games as a medium to tell great stories.

They forced a bit of their agenda into Season 1 of the show, mostly in one specific episode if memory serves, but it wasn't egregious. I think the show was mostly liked, even by fans of the game.

The problem is that any of the characters that you really like right now get entirely shafted in the 2nd game.

It's a shame that the writing and story for the 2nd game were so bad that it ruined the ending moment. It is one of the saddest things you're ever going to see, but because of the events that lead up to it are lacking any real story, it's not earned and there's no real payoff to it. If the entire rest of the game were changed yet they left that final scene in there, I think it could have been great. For it to have the same impact, the same people are going to have to die by the end of the game, but it could have been done in a dignified and meaningful way instead of making once great characters pathetic husks of what they used to be.

Pedro gets shafted harder than any protagonist you've probably ever seen in media before. Let's just say that I don't think I've ever seen a dog die on camera in a less dignified way than he does. And it wasn't because his character deserved it, or did anything to deserve it. It was because this show was made at the same time the 2nd game came out and at this point in our culture all you saw in media was all the old, white, male heroes being killed off and/or neutered. Think Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Willow, Indiana Jones and everything that happened to them in the last decade. Unlike Pedro Pascal, Joel was a white man in the game. The showrunners showed no remorse in executing him like a rabid dog, and then they forced you to play his murderer for 1/3rd of the game so you could feel sorry for her.

Hopefully now that all the woke stuff is finally going away for a while, when the showrunners put season 2 together they decide to not base it off the 2nd game and make their own story going forward.

It would make sense from a financial standpoint too. I don't imagine many people will tune into Season 3 about the bitter one-handed lesbian who will never play guitar again and the antics she gets up to with her girlfriend.

I don't know what the hell the game studio is going to do or how they'd ever be able to make a "The Last of Us 3" that anybody would want to play now. But the showrunners have the opportunity here to rewrite the story and keep Pedro in there. They can probably milk another 2 or 3 seasons out of this one if they do that.

Like I told SIG. No worries. Everyone gets tied up in things. That's life.

Myself, I am just adjusting to this add on seizure med and waiting for the results of the EEG that I had done. Oh, and getting rejection emails on my book. Suppose to be meeting up with the lady who is helping me but she is busy with poetry readings until the end of the month.

Well, you did upset me a little bit but I got over it. I'm not much on Zombie things but I wanted to see it because season 1 was filmed in Wild Rose Country. That's the province of Alberta. Beautiful country out there and man did they manage to dirty up some areas. *L*. And of course Pedro Pascal.

Think you told me this was based on a video game and since I don't play them anymore and am not up on them. I wouldn't have know. I try to watch stuff that is filmed in Canada. 2nd season should have started filming here in BC. So that will be fun. I used to when "X-Files" was filmed in BC, play recognize the area. *L* That was fun, so I am hoping to do with this.

Indy wasn't killed, he just retired. Though they did ruin a good franchise. And I thought it was wrong to kill Han too and break him and Leia up. That was just wrong and goes against the characters. Luke would have had a bad case of the guilts but he would have tried to reach his nephew. Not sure if he would have gone and joined the Force over that or not. Never seen Willow so I have idea there.

Now, you've upset me again. I like Joel. He's rough around the edges but he was living a difficult life before things went to heck. Then things got even tougher as the years went on. But I will watch the second season just to see what happens.

Yeah. I almost forget about the zombie thing. It's such a dated concept right now that I'm surprised the show did so well. I can't remember exactly when the game came out, but I'm sure it was somewhere in the middle of those few years that zombie stuff was inescapable.

Well that's why I said killed or neutered. The 4th Indy was bad enough, we didn't need that 5th one on top of it. They did all the original Star Wars characters dirty none of the old fans wanted to see anything that was happening on screen. These were heroes and they turn out to just be nothing important in the end. Why even make the movie? Just destroy the memories people had of fictional heroes from childhood?

I don't get it.

Quote:

Yeah. He's kind of like a Mal type. You know he's not a saint and you probably won't ever know much about his past or what he did that gnaws at him, but when the entire world turns upside down and most people would just give up he's trying to do what's right and protect that girl from harm.

I can say that I even understand how you would be able to dig up something from his past that comes back to haunt him (and even kill him), but it has to be done the right way and there has to be meaning behind that death. Maybe some horrific reveal that makes Ellie question if she can even trust Joel now that she knows what he did in the past. He doesn't even have to die, but as Ellie is getting older a reveal like this could shift their entire dynamic.

But it wasn't even that. It was over a choice he made in the first game. To protect Ellie. And the unintended consequence that ultimately leads to his own death wasn't something he even knew about or factored for when he made his choice. He didn't even know who this person was or that they even existed.

And he's just executed like a bitch right in front of Ellie after we get a long victimization monologue out of her.

And you the worst part is... If I were in her shoes, I'd probably had killed Joel too if given the chance.

That's not the point of it though. The entire sequence of events and those characters didn't even need to exist in the first place. They weren't in the first game. They were written in after the fact to make this new story where Joel is executed and it's a story about Ellie and her girlfriend and this psycho and her gang.

This is just the stuff that happens when the people who originally invent a story that becomes popular get it taken away from them because the company owns it. Then it's given to incompetent people who have an agenda and they ruin it.

So honestly.... I'm really hopeful that there was enough time for changes to be made behind the scenes that somebody decides that they're going a different direction and telling a different story in the TV Show. Joel gets to live. You and all the new fans are happy. And all of the fans of the original game would be thrilled. I bet they'd increase their viewership for the 2nd season by 50% if they announced this was what they were doing.

The book is hard. Neurologist just wants to see what is misfiring in my brain because something is for these seizures to be popping up.

It was in the late 90s and early 2000 that it seemed there were Zombie movies all over the place.

First season of "The Last of US" was filmed in Alberta. Some maybe up around Banff during winter. Brrr. Nothing like freezing your cast and through the spring and summer around Edmonton and maybe down towards Calgary. They passed a nice lake that could have been Lake Louise. When Joel and Ellie were stuck on a highway that was probably the Trans-Canada. Still they had them tromp through some gorgeous country. Alberta's nickname is "Wild Rose Country" because there is a rose variety that grows wild out there.

Oh, I know the 4th Indy was bad that's why I haven't watched it. I know about Star Wars that upset me as I grew up with these characters and loved them.

Yeah, he is kind of a Mal. He was just living his life after his wife died and raising his daughter and dealing with a brother who can't get his life together. I think what gnaws at him and why he tries to protect Ellie so hard is because of his daughter. She was killed as they tried to get out of Boston. Something they call FEDRA and either he or his brother killed the guards.

I don't think there needs to be a horrific reveal just leave Joel alone. He's doing the right thing and that is what is needed at this time.

Here too.

Over the past four days I managed to scrape enough time together to do 1 1/4 hours of yardwork each day for 3 days. But "indoor work" is catching up with me again so I'll be slogging thru chores.

I take the dog out with me if the weather isn't too cold, and if I'm in the front yard I just put her on a 15' rope. Next to going for a walk, it's her favorite time. But I took a good look at her when I came in and realized that she must have been rolling in the dust. So, a quick dog bath before making dinner!

After reading the news this ayem I decided not to do that for a while, too frustrating and borderline scary. So for the while ... a couple days-worth of dishes, pots and baking trays.

Several portal messages to various doctors. Dog walking. Mail-sorting. Tackling a few smaller items on the "to do" list. Gonna be making my latest favorite recipe today: albondigas soup. And bc I like it so much, gonna make extra meatballs for me for the next few days, since I try and split my meat consumption between AM and PM and nice to have leftovers.

On with the dishes!

How quickly I get derailed! Hubby asked for the sink so he could start coffee... important in our household!

So I went to mail sorting instead. Given end-of-year catalogs, donation requests, open enrollment ads, and so forth, it was a 2-hour job. (Of course, I had let it sit for over a week.)

So... NOW... on with the dishes!

I didn't do anything today except eat, which is bad. I had breakfast and meds, then got up for a bit to take a hot shower to ease out my shoulder muscles. It helped on the right but now the left is acting up. Then I turned this on and had some lunch then a while later, I had an apple turnover. I discovered one I can eat without that ratty additive in it. And believe it or not are sold by Walmart. Then a while after that I had an ice cream bar. Soon I will be getting up to get supper.

Should mention that this is really the one day that I let myself eat so much.

At your weight and activity level you don't have a problem.
I know all about aches and pains. But now that I'm back on steroids they don't trouble me as much. Wish I could share.

So out of all of the things lined up, I managed to do the dishes (three people eating home cooked meals adds up to a lot!), sort the mail, and make soup. I also did one unintended thing, I dragged out The Beast vacuum cleaner and vacuumed the doorway and kitchen mats.

None of the other things got done. We just ate a nice soup and family likes to watch TV so all of the other things will have to wait, either until I have a sleepless night or tomorrow morning.

As I've mentioned in the past I am the other end of the blood sugar scale from Jack being low. So I am doing some watching on that. Have to make sure it stays high enough to be alright. But as I said it is only one day.

I have been given steroids in the past because of a badly sprained back. Not sure I can take them now with all these seizure meds.

Don't have any mats but I do have to take that bamboo rake to the living room carpet and give it a good comb.

Good luck with the book and the EEG.

Yeah. I almost forget about the zombie thing. It's such a dated concept right now that I'm surprised the show did so well. I can't remember exactly when the game came out, but I'm sure it was somewhere in the middle of those few years that zombie stuff was inescapable.

Quote:

Think you told me this was based on a video game and since I don't play them anymore and am not up on them. I wouldn't have know. I try to watch stuff that is filmed in Canada. 2nd season should have started filming here in BC. So that will be fun. I used to when "X-Files" was filmed in BC, play recognize the area. *L* That was fun, so I am hoping to do with this.

That's cool. The first season was shot somewhere else then?

Quote:

Indy wasn't killed, he just retired. Though they did ruin a good franchise. And I thought it was wrong to kill Han too and break him and Leia up. That was just wrong and goes against the characters. Luke would have had a bad case of the guilts but he would have tried to reach his nephew. Not sure if he would have gone and joined the Force over that or not. Never seen Willow so I have idea there.

Quote:

Now, you've upset me again. I like Joel. He's rough around the edges but he was living a difficult life before things went to heck. Then things got even tougher as the years went on. But I will watch the second season just to see what happens.

That's cool. I'm not very well traveled, so unless a movie is filmed in Chicago, I'm probably never going to spot any landmarks that I've seen in person before.

Yeah... Joel's story in The Last of Us is the redemption arc. It's one of my favorite stories, no matter how many times I've heard it told differently. It's where true heroism is born. From regretting your past and owning it, then facing exceptional adversity as a flawed character who has made a conscious choice to try and do the right thing when most other people are giving up or running for their lives.

I think we've forgotten that. 2 decades of super hero movies have conditioned everybody to think that heroism comes from a freak spider bite or a chance exposure to radiation.

I agree with you 100%. Leave Joel alone.

I hope you get what you wish for.

I'll tell you right now if they come out and say that Joel lives in the 2nd season and they are going an entirely different direction with the story telling than the 2nd game did, I will catch up and watch season 2 when it drops.

Well, I've been to Alberta several times over the years. Went once by train and after it got through the pass, it stopped in Banff. So the mountains they were seeing were probably the Canadian rockies. I have friends that live in Edmonton and I've been to Calgary. The Trans-Canada highway is just what it says. A very long highway that runs the length of Canada. I've never been to Lake Louise but I've lots of pictures of it. The water is a wonderful shade of blue and my dad was from Alberta, so I've heard stories about the province as well.

I don't see Joel's story as a redemption arc outside of trying to reconnect with his brother and help Ellie. But that's just me. You are right. True courage comes from within when everything is going to heck in a handbasket.

Exactly. Though "spoiler alert", he was alive at the end of season 1. I just hope my library gets season 2 when it comes out.

Yeah. Joel made it to the end of the first game.

I don't know exactly how season 1 of the show ended, but I bet it's pretty close to one of the game's endings, and I'm pretty sure I know which one it was.

It's early on in the 2nd game that Joel gets taken out. So hopefully they're busy writing an entirely new script.

It sounds like you're inside for the worst of it. Yay!

Managed to catch up on indoor work, so I got some more yard work done. My plan is to dig up each area and then paper it over, which I found really stops the weeds. I bought special landscape staples to hold the paper down until I get 3" cover mulch to go on top.

Thursday dear daughter's exercise group is having a pre -Thanksgiving get together so I'm driving her down. I have a guy coming over on Friday to add a backflow preventer (pressure vacuum breaker) and pressure regulator to the irrigation manifold, and replace the remaining automatic sprinkler valves with ball valves. So I got tomorrow and Friday to finish up the curbside area. Saturday and Sunday they're predicting rain, so I promised hubby I'd go with him to our local Home Depot to see if we can find enough decent 2×4s to make a new woodworking bench.

Busy busy busy

Yup, everything from BC, Washington state, Oregon and Northern California too got a hit. Rain for Northern Cali. There will be lots of clean up to do for sure.

I was at it happened in the evening as I was watching the news and M*A*S*H.

Sounds like you got some good work done and that is nice that your daughter's group is having a Thanksgiving.

I am. There were power outages all over Vancouver Island and down trees almost everywhere on the Island and on the mainland.

Power went out for no reason at all while I was talking to the old man on the phone this evening. We still had about a half hour of daylight when it happened. Not a drop of water falling and not a branch in a tree moving.

4 hours long. No explanation. Try to call somebody and get them to tell you what happened. Impossible.

Anyhow...

After showering with a flashlight, I ended up going over to my buddies for a late night visit. I was lucky they weren't busy tonight and his work day starts late tomorrow. I almost didn't go because as we were talking about it, that's when my power finally came back on.

Of course it was a good time and I'm glad I went anyway, but this time I'm really glad I went.

For the first time in the 4 or 5 years I started hanging out with my old friends again, I beat him in a 9-game series. I've come close before... I've lost to him several times 7-9, but it's usually 3 or 4 to 9.

But tonight, I finally beat him.

Granted... I know that this wasn't pool league, and since I don't gamble there's literally nothing riding on our games. But he's not one to pull punches. I think when we start he's not really paying too much attention to the game, but any time I've taken an early lead is when you can tell his entire play style changes. That's what happened tonight, when I started off 3-0. All legit wins on my end too... none of them because he scratched on the 8-ball or something.

Those last 5 or so games were intense. We both hate losing, but I'm the one who always does. But tonight just felt different. I really was in the zone, and though he did manage to tie it 8-8 by the end, I was able to close it and finally get the win.

It was like a different level of play than I've ever experienced before. I don't know what the hell got into me tonight, but I hope it makes a return the next time we play. For both of us. He was thrilled. He doesn't like losing, but he loves competition.

He's also number one in his pool league, and after his win last night it doesn't matter what happens the next two weeks because he's ahead by so far that nobody can possibly catch up to him before the season is over.

And I won.

Sort of luck at mah jong this morning. Just missed on really good hand because I couldn't get rid of 2 tiles. *sigh* So at the end of the morning, I had just broken 1,000points and got the booby prize. I just made my $2 back.
