I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

It seems to me that if the elevators are fixed properly, once they're fixed they should STAY fixed. For a year, at least. I don't understand why the repairmen can't seem to get them right. I'f I were paying them, I think I'd want an extended, detailed conversation about the problems they can't seem to resolve. I'm not stupid, I've fixed complicated things before, and if they're on contract I'd look into finding alternatives.

Nice mah jong hand!

Oh, ugh! on the dental appt. I've done that kind of thing way too many times.

*****

Drizzle today. Forgot to put out my "rain gage" but not much is expected today anyway. Another day to stay indoors and let my knees recover some more. Been instructed to reduce my steroids again, and aches and pains have been resurfacing.

Today I decided to clean the shower stall and pot up the "living herb" rosemary and thyme that I asked dear daughter to get for me. They're for a pork stew recipe I found online. I'm always on the lookout for new recipes, bc between hubby's diabetes and dear daughter's IBS and overall pickiness, finding nutritious dishes they can both eat .... sigh. It's like a dietary minefield.

I have three ground turkey recipes (swedish meatballs, shepherd's pie, albondigas soup) three beef recipes (stew, burgers, and philly cheese, but Philly cheese is way expensive so I don't make it too often), three chicken recipes (soup, "oven fried", enchiladas) and three pork recipes (chops with apple, pulled pork, ham and veggie soup) that I make over and over. Every now and again Ill make something I know daughter can't or won't eat (Persian chicken, chili con carne, Flemish beef stew, roast tri tip, meatballs with basil and marinara) but I have to have an alternate on hand for her. I need to be careful with veggies too- no onions, garlic, cruciferous veggies, tomatoes, or peppers bc they roil her IBS. That doesn't leave much.

So a few days ago I finally found a way of roasting pork tenderloin (on sale 4.99/lb) and today a recipe that can use either pork tenderloin or trimmed country strips. We'll see how it works out.

I know what you mean about the elevators. They were just replaced about 3 years ago now but the company did a lousy job. Both are working today so I got the garbage out before the one to the parking garage went out again. So, we shall see how long the repair lasts this time. Personally I think the company the building hired is just lousy period.

It was a nice hand. Just too bad I couldn't get all 8 flowers or go out. Oh well.

Yeah, that a disaster with the dentist but they were very understanding about it all which was good. I have a "Don't Forget" note written on the new appointment slip they gave me yesterday in CAPITAL LETTERS. *L* So hopefully that will work.

Sounds good SIG. I am making my version of paella tonight. Which is just chicken and some broccoli, I've got. Then rice and chicken stock in it and let the rice cook and the broccoli. That usually lasts at least 3 days.

I was with laundry and my walk. Wanted just a couple of things like t-paper and some cereal for my bedtime snack.

Happy Sunday!

Got around to scrubbing the shower yesterday, and potting up some herbs dear daughter got for me from the grocery store. They're still alive today, altho I had to be a little rough with the roots to detangle them.

Found a recipe for pork stew that family really likes, so another winner to add to my recipe box.

Gotta do my walk, too. The dog takes me for a walk every day, whether I need it or not. Then on with whatever the day turns up.

Well, I got the booby prize at mah jong today. Managed to go out twice but I couldn't really do anything else.

Also last big dentist appointment done. Lower left side of lip still frozen along with gum. Dentist had a heck of time getting the temporary crown off. Told him after the same thing happened on a top tooth. The other dentist had to scrape some of cement off then pliers to try and loosen it till finally it came off. Permanent crown on and the tooth next to it filled. Soooo glad that is done.

First day of Spring and no rain when I was out but a cold wind was blowing.

So, what's on today's menu?

Yesterday was our weekly shopping, and the list was ginormous bc I was running out of staples ... canned tomatoes, margarine, chicken broth ... that kind of stuff. Plus the usual veggies, fruits, and meats.

Today on the dinner menu: leftover roast beef, broccoli, and sweet potato.

After 70F (21C) weather, sis in WNY sent me a picture of snowflakes on her windshield. Apparently they're on a weather rollercoaster.

We are too: Expecting Monday at 84F (29C) bracketed on each side by a day at 77F (25C), then back down to a more normal 71-ish (22C). Not used to hot weather yet.

No yardwork that day anyway, hubby is having a heart procedure. I hope all goes well.

Yesterday was 85F/29C (90F/32C inland) and today was 80F/27C. We almost hit new records. But with all the heat, there's still snow up on Mt Baldy.

The procedure took longer than expected, and there were more bits in his heart that needed zapping, and some they couldn't get to. So an overnight stay, but home now and all is good.

85F? Oh, that would be great but not to at least June.

Only problem with all this rain and new snow is the snow pack is unstable. Avalanches are a big worry with people venturing out into the back country. 3 killed in an avalanche yesterday.

Glad your hubby is home and on the mend. If they didn't get everything, excuse for asking will that mean another hospital stay in his future or more meds?

They reduced the # of PVCs (preventricular contractions/ irregular heartbeats) from 50% to about 25%. It means he will have to continue beta blockers to control the remaining PVCs until the scabs in his heart heal, and then the Dr can get a better idea of what's going on. I guess it's a little like brain surgery: operate on an electrically active organ like the brain or heart, and the residual inflammation and swelling can cause all kinds of misfiring.

So I understand, anyway.

If necessary he can go back for another ablation.

*****

Yeah, understand about avalanches. Sis lived in Colorado for a while and I visited her in the Rockies, and she pointed out all the avalanche chutes and white roadside crosses. People there told her "In the spring, don't honk your car horn, don't slam your car door, don't burp, and don't fart". They take avalanches seriously!

Hearts and brains are very touchy organs to operate on. I know the brain one from experience.

So, I would imagine when he goes back they will do an echocardiogram to see if they need to do more surgery?

Yeah, that can happen up here in the Spring. Always warnings about the back country.

I would imagine!

Dear daughter was evaluated for neurosurgery a couple of times. Not a candidate but surgeon did prepare us for the fact that seizures can be worse immediately after surgery than before, because of inflammation and swelling. They would have used a pretty stiff dose of steroids afterward to bring down the swelling. And scar tissue complicates things even after the recovery period, so neurosurgery not the cure ppl think it is. It's just in the nature of things.
So I was prepared for hubby's heart to misfire more immediately after ablation than before. Fortunately he's doing better than before.

Weather has been conducive so doing yardwork again. One last push this week with dear daughter, and then I call in the professionals.

Happy Sunday SIG

I know about the surgery for seizures and yeah it is only effect for certain people and I think it also depends on where the seizures are centred.

For me I was probably having small seizures but didn't realize what was happening till I went to the hospital. My memories around that time are pretty fuzzy or just not there. My memory does really clear up until they came to tell me what was going on and what was going to happen. Meaning the surgery. Gran mal after the surgery, I unfortunately remember vividly. Yuck!

I asked the first neurologist I was seeing when my seizures went away the first time what were the chances of them coming back. He told me 50-50 because I wasn't born with them. I was told by either the Neurosurgeon or the neurologist told me if certain memories came back that was good but not to worry if things didn't and don't push my brain. I've had what happened to me being the equivalent of being hit on the head with a 2 by 4.

I'm glad your hubby is getting better.

That's great for you. Tomorrow when I am out there will be rain.
