Still doggedly working on re-landscaping. This is a monumental project! But now that the weeds have slowed down I can work at a more comfortable pace. Also raked up a ginormous binful of pine needles from the pine trees I planted 15 years or so ago. They've grown into majestic beauties. Ahem! A bit too majestic.

In the front yard, the oak tree, planted about the same time as the pines, is blossoming. The Catalina Island cherries and hollyleaf cherry are beginning to blossom too... long sprays of small white flowers... and bees are going nuts over them. There are some California poppies that popped up among the weeds, which I of course saved, that are beginning to hloom, and the purple lantana has been blossoming for over a month now. And, finally, some potted succulents are also blooming.

Backyard is in full bloom too. The multicolored Joseph's Coat (this year, mostly a rosy red) and white Lady Banks roses- both climbers and 8 feet tall- are covered in flowers. Orange and golden nasturtiums, pink geraniums, and a pale pink azalea are also blooming like crazy. Even the avocados are blooming. I even have some evening primrose flowers from seed I planted four or more (!) years ago that I had given up on.

Some time in summer I'm going to have to call a tree guy and have all of the trees attended to, one way or another. The pines need to be thinned, the cherries need to be pruned back, the oak should be limbed up, and avocados need to be cut back and balanced. But it's a glorious sight right now. I wish you could see it.

Yeah, same here. Time to take puppywuppy out for her walk.

Been allocating my time between indoor work and outdoor work depending on weather and schedule. Today I'm sorting out about 2 1/2 years of misc paperwork for filing. I bought a big 4-drawer filing cabinet from a used office furniture place a long time ago, which is where these papers are destined. Tomorrow we're expecting a surprise late season shower, so more filing. I should never have let it sit that long!

Then will probably need to yank more weeds after the rain. Maybe it won't be so bad.

Speaking of rain... we got the 10AM showers as predicted. But at noon we got a surpise thunder-shower. It rained pretty heavily for 5 minutes ... not a downpour ... and tailed off to light rain for a bit before finally quitting. Probably not enough to penetrate more than the top inch or so of soil, but still appreciated by all the plants.

It was. Turned my head as I was trying to swallow and it sent the pill down sideways instead of straight. Which is why it got caught. Couldn't move it down but like I said coughing brought it back up again.

So lesson to me is don't turn my head while I am trying to swallow.

Well, a semi reasonable day at mah jong. Had winds and dragons wanting to come to me and finally on the 3rd or 4th try got them. 5 doubles wasn't bad. Over 3,000points. Finished with over 4,000 points. First went to a lady with 12,000points, second to a lady I was playing with at 10,000points. She got all 4 flowers and what was in her hand, 7 doubles. Don't what the lady in 3rd place got but I think her points were over 6,000 and the lone gentleman that plays with us got the bobby prize.

Been spending a lot of unplanned time at Drs. Hubby had a disagreement with a 1 hp router, only the 2nd accident in over 35 years of woodworking, and two finger got pretty sliced up in ways that can't be stitched. ER, then hand specialist, now potentially urgent care this weekend since wounds are still bleeding.

I noticed that they don't have clocks in ER or medical unit waiting rooms.

Yeah, I've noticed that too or doctor's offices and dentists. It's a pain and I think it's because they don't want you to know how long you have been sitting there waiting.

I never noticed in airports, too busy being nervous about flying. You could be right about casinos and again I never noticed when I went as I kept an eye on my money and I always have a watch with me. Though I think there was one at the front desk. Don't know about down there but I know of one casino where I am that you have to check your purse or backpack and jacket when you come in.

Three places where it makes a whole lot of sense not to have a clock on the wall, honestly. It's bad enough sitting in a hospital waiting room when you wear a wristwatch and you don't mindlessly plug away on a smartphone like everyone else is. Nobody wants to be able to look right up at the wall and see the second hand going backward.

I've only been to a few casinos over the years and I've never seen any clocks in them. That's something of an "urban legend" that I'd heard growing up, so I actively looked to see if I could find any the few times I went and sure enough nothing ever turned up. Not too sure about the other casino legend I heard... the one where they pump extra oxygen into casinos in Las Vegas to keep people more energized and less likely to go to bed when there's still more money to lose.

This isn't too dissimilar to how slow our gas station pumps work compared to how fast they were in the 90s. Once gas prices started going up over $2.00 is when I first noticed it happening. It might just be a co-incidence and pumps may have been upgraded to newer systems with more safety implemented that may have slowed the pumps down. But in my mind that was all just a psychological trick to take a bit of the sting out of the insane bump in prices in such a short time. Make you wait twice as long to fill your car, but at least you don't see the dollars skyrocketing as you pump with the speed of the pumps we were using in the 90s.

Hey Sigs... I had what I think should be quite a bit simpler of a code ask of your husband. I'd prefer to do it as a batch in Windows, but if he's got a Linux solution that would work easily, that's fine too.

+++++++++++++++++++++++
THE TL;DR PART

Did a huge batch of renames on pairs of images/config files. Data in config files are bad now.

Example filenames:

Item 1.cfg
Item 1.jpg
Item A.cfg
Item A.jpg
Item zed.cfg
Item zed.jpg

And inside "Item zed.cfg" there would be a line that had the old file names which would read something like this:

"Item zed (version 5).jpg"

After renaming all the cfg/jpg files slightly different, I need that line to now read the same as the new name, or in this case:

"Item zed.jpg"

A Bulk batch/script that would do this for every .cfg file in the folder.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

Explanation:

I've got somewhere around 1,200 .CFG configuration files. They are paired with and have matching filenames of 1,200 .JPG image files.

Every single one of these needed a filename change. That is already done. Most of it was possible with a few simple bulk renames, with about 250 needing to be done individually by hand.

That was the easy part.

The config files aren't very big. Maybe 6 lines of code with some blank lines in between. But the only part I'm concerned with is the fact that inside of each configuration file is a line with quotation marks has the filename of the paired JPG image. But now that all of the JPG and CFG files had to be renamed, I'm going to have to go back into every one of those 1,200 CFG files in a text editor and copy paste the new image filenames on top of the old ones by hand.

I'm actually pretty quick at doing stuff like this at this point, but I know there's got to be a much smarter way of doing this that wouldn't require writing a few pages of code.

All I need is to write the current filename of the CFG file that is open on top of the filename it's calling for the image inside (so ignoring the file extension when making the change, of course). But a bulk command that would just do this for every file that is in the folder.

I hate that I know this will be simple code, at least in one popular language, but I have no idea where to begin and trying to google a solution to this is proving quite challenging.

No worries if he doesn't have any ideas. I figured I'd throw it out there and see if maybe I could save a day or two of tedium if he had an idea.

Tell him thanks in advance for me if he does.

Yikes. I hope that gets better quick.

Turns out that I didn't need it anyhow Sigs. For once with this and trying to merge my stuff with somebody else's program actually allowed for me to take a significant shortcut and it turns out I don't need any of those config files at all.

Once I finished my manual rename stuff, I realized that the CFG files were useless to me in this new setup, and they used paired .INFO files instead. Inside of those files was no pointer to the media, but other "essential" information. But it's really only essential if everything going into it wasn't uniform size, which they are. Turns out they have a global setting somewhere that's allowing me to do what I wanted with all this media just by having it in the right place with the correct names, so once I finished doing all my renames I was done with this phase and not even yet aware of it.

Tell your husband thanks if you've already brought it up to him, and to get well soon.
