Jimminy, that's hot!!
I think our hot spell must have moved to you!
Cooldown any time soon?

Saw Dr Ortho yesterday. I honestly didn't expect much ... maybe he would put in for a test for X-rays and then reschedule for another visit and blah blah blah....

Turns out, the ortho dept has their own X-ray machine - who knew? - and the reason why I had to go in at stupid o'clock was to have a series of knee X-rays done. Then Dr Resident tested my knees for stability, and Dr Ortho came in, looked at my X-rays and said I had arthritis in my left knee. Asked if I was looking for a knee replacement... HECK NO!! ... and asked if I was willing to get a cortisone shot in my knee.

YEAH MAN, SHOOT ME UP!

So, that's what happened. They take a long sturdy needle and go under the kneecap. I gotta say, it felt weird, and since it was a pretty high volume my knee felt full, but now that the stuff has distributed my knee feels better and the pain is 90% gone.

And I was so sure it was a tendon problem! But seeing as arthritis gallops thru my family, and I have arthritis pretty much everywhere else, I shouldn't be surprised.

I like Dr Ortho. He answered all my questions (No, compression knee sleeves don't work. Yes, better shoes and orthotics could help. Yes, right here in the Xray is where you see arthritis.) wants the dog to keep taking me for walks, offered injections every 3 months if necessary, and even gave me his non-offuce number so he could squeeze me in for shots if I needed them.

Plus I really like his attitude of getting more "mileage" out of my knees, bc that's what I want too.

Back to being more functional!

For here yes. There is a cool down coming in another day or so. It will be a relief for a lot of people for sure.

Wow! Sounds like your appointment with Dr. Ortho went great. That's fantastic. I don't know if I could stand cortisone shot. Especially around a joint like that. And I've known people that have gotten that shot and it does help.

I hear you about the arthritist. It runs through my family as well. I figure it is waiting in the wings to get me. Have a cousin that needs a hip replacement.

Appeals Court Nukes Boasberg's Contempt Order In Trump Admin Deportations Case

Earlier this year, Boasberg said he found probable cause to hold the administration in contempt because it purportedly violated his orders to halt deportations under the Alien Enemies Act.

However in a 2–1 decision on Friday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit indicated that Boasberg went too far. Judge Gregory Katsas said that one of Boasberg’s orders could have been read in different ways.

... [therefore] "the government’s initial implementation of the proclamation clearly and indisputably was not criminal."

... Judge Neomi Rao described Boasberg’s decision as an “egregious” abuse of the court’s contempt power and said Boasberg had lost the authority to try and “coerce compliance” with his original order. That’s because his initial halts on the deportations had been vacated by the Supreme Court in another decision from April.

Since your weather tends to drift eastward, SIX, maybe western NY will get some rain too. They could really use some!

Just plugging away a step at a time. The weather finally turned reasonable enough, for a few days, to allow some yardwork. So today and tomorrow, and maybe Monday (?) that'll be on the agenda. Nothing big, just long-delayed raking and weeding.

Yeah. I don't know about that. It was supposed to be going North of us over the lake, but then suddenly the entire NW Indiana area got blasted right in the center of it all when it shifted south-east in a direct line over us. Not sure where it went after it passed us, but NY didn't seem to be the direction it was headed. We ended up having thunderstorms for 5 straight hours when we weren't supposed to have any.

And I'm amazed. The power did not go out. A cow farts in a field and I lose my power here. It's so bad that I fully expect a power outage the second I see lightning, so I was pleasantly surprised that this is the 2nd big storm we've had where we didn't lose power in a row.

Just 1 week before the last storm, the power went out for no good gorram reason while I was on the phone with my aunt. There was no rain, no wind, no nothing. But I lost power for 4 hours with no explanation from the power company. They just do whatever they want, whenever they want.

Same thing with my sister. Any storm, rain, snow, or even a little wind- her power would go out. Sometimes for days at a time. This went on for years. And it was just her house and a few around her.

She complained up and down the line, and finally she went to one of those "we'll stand up for the little guy" TV shows, told them her story. Something happened behind the scenes, Niagara Mohawk got someone to trim ONE FRIGGIN' BRANCH and she hasn't had an outage since.

Yeezus that's hot! I know it's humid there too. Sis had the same weather, I was actually worried for her health and safety. She finally sprung for central air, bc up until just recently she didn't have AC at all, not even a window unit.

It was up in the mid 90s, but ... yanno... not with your humidity! For me, outdoor work is reasonable up to about 85F. After that, I switch to indoors.

Sounds similar to what our problem is around here. When I get hit, only a few houses around me are also hit, with most of the rest of the neighborhood doing just fine. I guess it's been that way for decades. Every once in a while it surprises me like this and I think that this time they finally figured it out, but it's usually short lived. Guess we'll see. Good for your sister though.

This issue is nowhere near big enough for me to put my face out there to get it fixed. I'll just get my genny running when I need to. I probably wouldn't have even needed it last night. We've had a ton of rain in the last few days, but it's been a pretty regular summer around here up until now. My sump well is probably close to bone dry, or at least it was before 3 or 4 days ago. No drought or anything, and my grass actually has been real green and looks good this year. If it hadn't gotten so hot for so long again (2 years in a row), it was just about perfect around here this spring/summer. At least precipitation wise.

Yeah. Knew it was bad yesterday when I had to go into the attic for something and my glasses immediately fogged up so bad I couldn't see anything. I'm just about useless in that weather these days, so looking forward to it finally cooling off.

Oh god... I'm glad your sister finally gave in too. And she sprung for the REAL solution.

My dumb ass went WAY too many years without A/C, and now that I've figured out how comfortable I can make my entire house with just a single window unit because I live alone, I feel REALLY stupid for the misery I put myself through all of those years over basically nothing. Even with high electricity prices these days, it really doesn't cost all that much for the comfort it provides, especially when compared to the winter bills.

And, I don't recall if I mentioned it to you, but last year that 10,000 or 12,000 BTU unit I had cooling this place off for 3 or 4 summers just went kaput on me. My buddy gave me a brand new 5,000 BTU unit he was going to leave with the house when he sold it along with about half a dozen others that were new or used. He just took it off the pile and handed it to me when I was helping him move the last of his crap out.

It turns out that's all I need. THe last two summers were way hotter than the 3 or 4 before them when I had the big unit, and I've had zero complaints. Even on the hottest days, it only gets to 77 degrees on the 2nd floor, and the 1st floor is just fine. The basement with that ceramic tile floor is actually pretty cold, especially if you're just in your socks or barefoot. So if I ever get around to really waterproofing everything so I can try moving some furniture and entertainment down there instead of just using it as an indoor shed, it'll be really nice during summer down there.

And after I removed all the vinyl blinds that made it a dungeon down there and put that privacy film up on the windows instead, it's just as bright down there as it is anywhere else. Brighter than the 1st floor, actually, since there aren't trees all over the place like there is on the other side.

Oh... and BTW... I don't remember when I put that film up, but I remember you and I and Kiki talking about it when I did.

That stuff is amazing. As for everything that I put up inside the house, there hasn't been a peeling corner or a bubble forming anywhere inside or nothing. I think I may have dusted them with a microfiber rag twice since I put them up and they look just as good as that first day.

The only problem spots that I've had were a few corners on the glass slat side window on the garage. But between the dust, the bugs, the heat and humidity vs the frigid winter temps and whatever else, those get filthy compared to anything inside the house. And since I have a massive and heavy workbench table in between me and that window, I can't even open the thing on a hot day, let alone clean it all the time without it being a big chore.

Even then, nothing has peeled off. It's just a few "fraying" corners. Not even enough to get a peek at what's inside the garage, even after all these years.

It is all about prep, because there were probably 1/3rd as many complaints about it being a lousy product that didn't stick and there were rave reviews. But between getting the measurements right, completely cleaning and sterilizing the glass surface before applying the stuff, and taking great care that I only pulled the protective backing off when I was absolutely sure it was ready to go up, I have no reason to believe that the film I put up inside my house will EVER peel off on its own and will remain up there until I sell the house to somebody else who doesn't want them or I decide it's time for a change myself.

It's nice to know that even these days you can still luck into a really good product that actually does what it says and rewards you for making sure you live up to your end of the bargain going into it.

ETA: I guess there's one possibility that I hope doesn't happen with the film that I just thought of... The sun just finally breaking down whatever molecules are holding it all together over time. Don't know if it would happen, but I bet it could happen.

Fingers crossed.

Out in a bit. Something to return to the library and in general just a look around.

Finished for today. Nice day out. Got a notice that the current repair guy for the building is leaving on the 23rd of this month. This is something like the third guy that has been here and I've only been in the building 5 years.
