Off in a bit to get a couple of things done. Think it's suppose to be dry today. Might have to go the cardiologists office to make an appointment as I spent 10 minutes on the phone this morning trying to get them. Can't leave a voice mail as I am not sure when I will be back in.

Got back a while ago and it is a soggy, soggy day up here in the Northlands.

Note to self: Never use old sayings or make jokes based on pop culture from when I was a kid. Ugh! I am surrounded by rotten kids.

The examples from today as the young woman was looking for the rest of my seizure med in a draw. I said it wasn't "a fit day out for man nor beast. Blank look.

Told the boss what is happening and he said getting double check was a good idea and I agreed with him. Just tired of being poked and prodded at. He thought that was funny. As I was leaving, I said, "Maybe they will find that my heart is 3x too big."
Pharmacist in training started to say what that was medically. I had to explain it was joke. Blank faces again. Then I said you know the Grinch. He laughed then and I left.

Like I said. Rotten kids.

Can you open the book directly from your USB stick now?

If so, you can now open that book from any laptop or PC that you put it in that has Office installed.

Even if you don't have office installed and one day you're in a position where you'd need to pay for a subscription version of Word in the future, you can always easily open it up in Google Docs for free with a gmail account. It would take a little bit for you to get used to the differences there, but at least for now there are free alternatives if this ever becomes an issue.

As for the photos, I would first "Create New Folder" on the USB stick and name it something like "Images" or "Photos" before you copied all of your photos to the drive, just to make certain you're not dumping everything just on the highest folder in the tree. If you had a ton of photos you were moving and you just move them to the highest level of the drive which is where I assume your book now is, you're going to kind of bury your book under the pictures.

It would still be there alphabetically (or any other way you sorted your files), but you'd probably have to dig for it any time you wanted to pull it up, or at least use the search function to narrow down the results. That could get annoying for you after a while. (And though it's not really hard to fix, I think it would be fairly complex to explain how to do it online to you, and with a clean drive with just your book on it we don't need to muck it up, right?)

You can even do things like have a folder called "Book", and then have a sub-folder called "Notes" if you added things or came across things that are giving you inspiration to write something further at one point that you didn't want to lose. With these nested sub-folders, you can really do a good job of keeping your Book stuff separate from your Images.

And like I said before, if you ever got into downloading some music that you aren't able to find in physical media, you have TONS of room on that stick for hundreds if not over 1,000 songs too, so you can also make a "Music" folder to save any music files to as well. It's a very, very useful little piece of tech for the relatively low price.

So, lots of water said the pharmacist and she didn't say this but heat for my back. Too much coughing and ow!. I do have cough drop I can use too.

Lousy morning at mah jong SIX. Had 1 decent hand and that was first one. Winds & dragons but it only netted me a score 780. So yeah not good. Also had to play teacher to three other people as the boss is away and I am one of the only other players who know how to count. Ugh!
Also senior's centre put the tv back into the lunch area. It's so anyone who wants to watch the Olympics can.

That was nice of them to put the TV in there. You watch any of the Olympics in there yourself?

Heh... You've got that frustration and competitive edge my grandma and her sister did with their Scrabble games. Not only did they delight in calling each other out for using a word that was spelled wrong or wasn't actually in the dictionary and challenging each other or anybody they played with, but that extended to me when I was trying to play them when I was 8 or 9 years old. They weren't going to hold any punches for the kid. I got to see a side of both of them I'd never have seen if I didn't play Scrabble with 'em.

Learning a lot about file sharing in Linux because of the project.

You're able to set up "Shortcut" equivalents there that make the MS counterparts pale by comparison. They're almost too good because you really have to make sure you remember what you're crossing between drives and where, because you're able to do it in such a way where you can't even tell in Windows Explorer that files in the same folder are coming from two completely separate drives without looking at file/folder properties. They blend seemlessly.

This has allowed me to blend real files right in with dummy representative files I had created to save space in the primary without much work at all, since these Linux shortcuts not only stand in for them, but represent actual media from alternative sources that don't bog down the main.

I know that some of this was possible all the way back in 2017-2018, but not all of it. The network upgrades have been supurb since then. I'm currently doing work with 3 different computers running 3 different OS's, and there's no hangups viewing these shared folders from any OS without any limitations or needing to enter a password in Linux every time I mess with one remotely.

I've even set up a few temporary shares that not only allow me to do work on the files hosted on the Linux computer in Windows where I feel much more comfortable working with massive projects like this, but it also allows me to offload quite a bit of behind the scenes work that I've been doing that have been bogging down my work speed as they ran on the main until yesterday. I'll soon be putting a very large portion through a 2-pass process that is likely to take about 2-3 days for each process. But now I can set it and forget it, do them all at one time instead of only 100 files or so at a, and on a remote computer that wasn't seeing any CPU usage and can do all the heavy lifting while I'm doing literally anything else.

Cool stuff.

It was nice. I did watch some over lunch. Curling. China vs the UK. Women's team. Don't know who was winning as I don't understand curling and I don't how they count points.

I can get competitive at times. And very frustrated when playing teacher. I was suppose to be sitting at another table when I got moved to the table with the three players who have a hard time counting. They start to count and I have to stop them because they are doing it wrong and so Arrrrggghhh! And since all three had different hands, I had to help one lady on my right and the one in the middle then the one on my left.

My dad had far more patience when teaching me to play cribbage and I would have been around your age when I learned bout 8 or 9. Don't remember much any more but the basic counting and moving the pegs on the board for your count.

Haha...

I couldn't explain any scoring to you in Curling, but if I watched it for a few hours I'd probably get a majority of it and would be able to. The first and last time I watched it was the 2006 season, and it instantly became my favorite winter sport. I'm glad to see its staying power, and not really surprised to see it.

It's just got that "something"...

I know the feeling all too well. I have to let it be known pretty early on at my jobs that I'm not the guy who's time they'll be wasting to train other people. Most of them are dumb, and at least 2/3rds of them never even last a month before quitting anyway. To me they're just dead weight, but at the end of the day these are jobs that don't matter anyhow. Just give me my difficult corner and give me more work than you'll expect me to do by the end of the night. Stay out of my way, keep other people out of my eyesight so I don't see them fucking around on their cell phones all night while I bust my ass and I'll make you look good.

And don't ask me to train anybody. Even though this is a bullshit job, my brain over-processed all of it and half of the work I do I couldn't even explain to the average person who doesn't have the ability to think about 30 things at one time, and constantly move them around as external stimuli and events make me change how and why and in what order the puzzle pieces need to be solved.

Just ask the guy or gal who you think is the 2nd best on the shift to do all the training and leave me out of it, thank you very much.

Then you are probably a head of me when it comes to curling. About all I know is that sport comes from Scotland and has been around a fair amount of time. That and it is played on ice. The things they hurl down the ice are called "rocks" and the sweeping I think is suppose to slow them down. The bulls eye on the ice makes me think of darts and I knew that the different rings on a dart board make different scores.

These are women who are far older than me and I can't tell if they really don't know how to count or what. I don't volunteer but when someone else is in charge gotta do what the boss says.

Teaching anyone over the age of 20 and just no. But I am good with teaching children. Starting from 1 and on up.

He was cool in his own way. More or less taught me how to fix little things. But one thing he knew for sure about me. Give me a thing to fix and leave me alone with it. He knew I would get it if I just give me the time to figure the item out.

I'm glad your brothers had your dad to learn from. That is a true gift.

He did but one lesson never truly took and that was patience. I've sorted developed some over the years but man what I wouldn't give at times to have his.

I can remember skating lessons when I was in elementary school and he would come to the rink. He stand behind the boards and to this day I can hear him tell me, "Don't fight the ice." That meant let the ice take you were you are suppose to go but if you fight it you will land on your azz.

Boy Brenda... I had a pretty long reply I typed out for you last night/early morning but with the website problems I lost it in the ether and it didn't show up here when I tried to post and I didn't copy it all beforehand.

Sorry about that. :(

I like the Don't Fight the Ice lesson from your Dad. Another one I missed out on for sure.

My every day after school was not seeing my friends because I had two younger brothers I had to watch for 3 or 4 hours after school (including one who was still heavily disabled) every day until my mom and step-dad got back home from their miserable jobs in Downtown Chicago after fighting the rush-hour traffic, and then being forced to sit at a dinner table who's every conversation every night was dominated by my mom bitching about how awful her job was and how/why she hated everyone she worked for and worked with.

Everything all around me was a fight growing up. I'm afraid that I wouldn't even recognize what just going with the flow even looked like if I saw it.

I remember a few years back my dental hygienist telling me what a great time she and her husband and kids were having during lock-downs, and her even having the pleasure of her oldest college student son being at home and the night's they'd spend watching movies and playing board games together and the like.

What a great picture she painted. Sounds like a little slice of heaven.

I just laughed and told her that if Covid lock-downs happened when I was that age, at least one of us would have not survived being confined to that house with each other for 2 years. Not a chance.

No worries. I managed to get that through before the other troubles.

My dad just didn't want me to get hurt out on the ice. I did fall down but I didn't hurt myself at least. One lesson he walked out on to the ice to help me and the teacher had to ask him not to do that. And he wasn't in skates just his regular shoes.

I could do that as I got older on ice that forms when the temperatures go real low and if there is a big puddle it completely freezes. Local 7-11 back when I was in high school had a big puddle freeze over in the parking lot. I was with a group of friends going there for lunch and forgot what my dad had taught. I went down and landed on my back. Ow! That hurt for sure. Everyone wanted to help me but I said no. They just stood back and watched me get to my feet and carefully finish walking across the lot. Same thing coming out of the store after eating. I got across the ice with no problem.

That is a lot to put on a kid and not right. I didn't see much of my friends in elementary school only because we were out in the sticks and a kid could get by a car. No street lights. And lots of crows around. Had one fly right into my face on my way to school. Didn't hurt me but sure scared the beejezzers out of me. My dad figured it must have been a pet and got away. I hated crows for a long time after that. Once I got in it was homework. That was my dad's rule and also I had to walk my little brother home. Both my parents where home as they we retired. I got picked on because my mum and dad were older than everyone else's.

Dinner was for eating, talking and watching the supper time news.

That was a lovely picture she painted for sure. My lock-down was boring as he double toothpicks for sure.

My mum would have gone batty for sure being inside all the time.
